Atrial Fibrillation from an Engineering Perspective【
|

Atrial Fibrillation from an Engineering Perspective provides an up-to-date overview of techniques developed for acquisition, modeling, and analysis of noninvasive, bioelectrical signals reflecting this common arrhythmia. Special emphasis is put on emerging technologies for monitoring of atrial fibrillation in connection with ischemic stroke, interventional ablation procedures, and pharmacological treatment, applications which all depend on the availability of techniques for detecting and characterizing episodes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Detectors exploring both rhythm and morphology are described, as well as detectors confined to rhythm and better suited for low power implementation. A wide variety of approaches to modeling and characterization of atrial activity are described, emanating from a statistical and deterministic starting points. This book is suitable for graduate students, researchers, and engineers who want a comprehensive treatise of atrial fibrillation from an engineering perspective. It may be used for self-study, as a supplement to courses in signal processing, or as a modern monograph by researchers in the field of atrial fibrillation.

Atrial Fibrillation Diet A Beginner’s 2-Week Guide on Managing AFib, With Curated Recipes and a Sample Meal Plan【電子書籍】[ Jeffrey Winzant ]
|

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or the CDC, it is estimated that by 2030, 12.1 million of the US population will have Atrial Fibrillation.

In 2018, almost 15% of the 175,326 deaths pointed out that Atrial Fibrillation was the underlying cause of death.

If you are a part of the population that has this disease, this guide will help you understand more about Atrial Fibrillation and will also provide you with how you can manage your symptoms, which will lead to improving your condition.

According to the National Institutes of Health, or the NIH, Atrial Fibrillation, or AFib, is “one of the most common types of arrhythmias or irregular heart rhythms.” It’s a heart condition that causes the heart to have irregular and, oftentimes, abnormally fast heart rates.

Even experts aren’t entirely sure what causes AFib, but it usually happens when electric impulses abnormally fire up the atria. This causes irregular heartbeats and palpitations, chest pains, and lightheadedness, to name a few.

The risk of this disease increases as the patient gets older. It is also noted that 1 out of 7 strokes is caused by AFib. Thus, it’s usually given proper medical attention to alleviate symptoms and improve the condition. In addition to that, you can contribute to this by starting a healthier, heart-friendlier lifestyle, which is what this guide is all about. You’ll also learn about the following:

All about Atrial Fibrillation

Risk factors of AFib

Common symptoms and causes

The Mediterranean Diet

Two-week guide on starting the diet

Recipes good for AFib patients

The AFib Diet for Seniors A Heart-Healthy Guide with Age-Friendly Recipes & a 3-Week Plan to Manage Atrial Fibrillation【電子書籍】[ Isadora Kwon ]
|

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a type of irregular heartbeat that can seriously impact your quality of life, especially as you age. AFib becomes more common in seniors because the heart naturally undergoes changes over time.

For example, the heart muscles might become less elastic, affecting their ability to pump blood efficiently. This decline often happens alongside age-related conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or arthritis, making AFib management more challenging for older adults.

Unlike younger adults, seniors may experience AFib symptoms more subtly. While some feel heart palpitations or a racing pulse, others might mostly notice fatigue or shortness of breath. Understanding these differences is the first step to effectively managing the condition.

While medication is often a core part of managing AFib, diet can be just as important. The food you eat can help regulate your body's electrolyte balance, reduce inflammation, and even lower your risk of stroke. For seniors, eating well isn't just about addressing AFib. It's about meeting the unique nutritional needs that come with aging.

A thoughtful diet tailored to manage AFib focuses on eating nutrient-rich whole foods, staying hydrated, and avoiding processed ingredients or known triggers like excess salt or caffeine. Adjustments to portion sizes and the incorporation of key nutrients like potassium and magnesium can provide extra benefits.

In this guide, we will talk about the following:

Atrial Fibrillation and Aging - What Seniors Need to Know

The AFib-Friendly Diet for Seniors

Meal Planning Made Simple for Seniors

Gentle Cooking Methods for Heart Health

Age-Friendly Recipes for AFib Management

The 3-Week AFib Action Plan for Seniors

Beyond Diet - Lifestyle Tips for Senior AFib Management

Keep reading to learn more about how you can take control of your AFib and enjoy a healthy, fulfilling life. By the end of this guide, you'll have the tools and knowledge to create a personalized dietary plan that works for you.

Clinical Cases in Cardiac Electrophysiology: Atrial Fibrillation and Atrial Flutter Vol. 2【
|

This is the second of a three-volume project aimed at providing unique case reports (20 cases per volume) of supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias encountered in clinical practice. The book focuses on catheter ablation procedures of paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation of atypical atrial flutters. The cases presented were performed using the CARTO electro-anatomical mapping system, providing a high number of images to better understand arrhythmia features. The cases are built around high-quality figures acquired during the patients’ hospitalization and relevant medical images, such as electrocardiograms, Holter ECGs, and MRI/CT scans. Short videoclips with activation maps of the atria or the ventricles during the studied arrhythmia complete the information provided. The chapters include questions and answers and key messages at the end of each case, making it an invaluable tool for cardiologists, clinical cardiac electrophysiologists, and interventionalcardiac electrophysiologists in training, as well as for anyone interested in learning more about the subject.

Atrial Fibrillation is an abnormal irregular heart beat
Lung diseases and hyperthyroidism contributes to it
It is caused by coronary heart disease and other heart condition
Other causes are congenital heart disease and systemic afflictions

Typically there is fast heart beats and sense of palpitations
There may chest pains and difficulty in respiration
There may congestive heart failure and ankle swelling
There are irregular heart beats and fainting

Both atrial chambers are enlarged due to irregular heart conditions
ECG will confirm the presence of atrial fibrillation
Treatment is to prevent the throwing out of blood clots
These blood clots can cause heart attacks and stroke

Treatment is usually with digoxin, dilatrend and aspirin
Sometimes you may have to use the blood thinner warfarin
Which while good and cheap can cause severe bleeding
Cardioversion and pacemaker procedures may be more lasting.

-An original poem by Kenneth Kee

Interesting Tips about Atrial Fibrillation

A Healthy Lifestyle

Take a well Balanced Diet

The treatment of atrial fibrillation is aimed at
a. Regulating the heart beat and rhythm- digoxin, dilatrend, beta blockers
b. Preventing blood clots to be thrown out in the blood stream -anticoagulants
c. In cases of uncontrolled tachycardia, immediate cardio version may be done.

Regulating the heart beat:
a. Rate control
Rate control is by drugs to reduce the heart rate to 60 to 100bpm without changing to a regular rhythm.

The medications work by blocking the AV node reducing the electrical impulses to the ventricles.
b. Beta blockers such as metoprolol, atenolol, bisoprolol
c. Cardiac glycosides (digoxin)
d .Calcium channel blockers (i.e. diltiazem or verapamil)
e. Beating Atrial Fibrillation Naturally 40 Years【電子書籍】[ John D Callahan ]
|

I have had atrial fibrillation (AFib) for approximately 40 years (from my mid-20s to mid-60s), but the disease has progressed very slowly. I am still paroxysmal (intermittent) with minimal AFib burden; in fact, I am in sinus rhythm over 99% of the time. My episodes (a handful a year) typically last around half a day, and I've never needed medical intervention to terminate an episode. I've never had an episode lasting over a day. I've never had a stroke, and I have an otherwise normal heart with normal-sized atria. In this book I will explain how I have done it, naturally, without the medical intervention of drugs (except a few, optional ones, primarily during episodes), electroshock, ablation, or surgery. I am not a doctor, but I did graduate from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in astronomy and physics. I also worked at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) in the space program.

Atrial Fibrillation Diet A Beginner's 2-Week Guide on Managing AFib, With Curated Recipes and a Sample Meal Plan【電子書籍】[ Jeffrey Winzant ]

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC, it is estimated that by 2030, 12.1 million of the US population will have Atrial Fibrillation.

According to the National Institutes of Health or NIH, Atrial Fibrillation, or AFib, is "one of the most common types of arrhythmias or irregular heart rhythms." It's a heart condition that causes the heart to have irregular and, oftentimes, abnormally fast heart rates.

Even experts aren't entirely sure what causes AFib, but it usually happens when electric impulses abnormally fire up the atria. This causes irregular heartbeats and palpitations, chest pains, and lightheadedness, to name a few.

The risk of this disease increases as the patient gets older. It is also noted that 1 out of 7 strokes is caused by AFib. Thus, it's usually given proper medical attention to alleviate symptoms and to improve the condition. In addition to that, you can contribute to this by starting a healthier, heart-friendlier lifestyle, which is what this guide is all about.

You'll also learn about the following:

All about Atrial Fibrillation

Risk factors of AFib

Common symptoms and causes

The Mediterranean Diet

Two-week guide on starting the diet

Recipes good for AFib patients

Complete Medical Guide and Prevention for Heart Diseases Volume VII; Atrial Fibrillation【電子書籍】[ Medical Professionals ]

Atrial fibrillation (AF or A-fib) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heart beat). It may cause no symptoms, but it is often associated with palpitations, fainting, chest pain, or congestive heart failure. However, in some people atrial fibrillation is caused by otherwise idiopathic or benign conditions.

AF increases the risk of stroke; the degree of stroke risk can be up to seven times that of the average population, depending on the presence of additional risk factors (such as high blood pressure). It may be identified clinically when taking a pulse, and the presence of AF can be confirmed with an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) which demonstrates the absence of P waves together with an irregular ventricular rate.

In AF, the normal regular electrical impulses generated by the sinoatrial node are overwhelmed by disorganized electrical impulses usually originating in the roots of the pulmonary veins, leading to irregular conduction of impulses to the ventricles which generate the heartbeat. AF may occur in episodes lasting from minutes to days ("paroxysmal"), or be permanent in nature. A number of medical conditions increase the risk of AF, particularly mitral stenosis (narrowing of the mitral valve of the heart).

Atrial fibrillation may be treated with medications to either slow the heart rate to a normal range ("rate control") or revert the heart rhythm back to normal ("rhythm control"). Synchronized electrical cardioversion can be used to convert AF to a normal heart rhythm. Surgical and catheter-based therapies may be used to prevent recurrence of AF in certain individuals. People with AF often take anticoagulants such as warfarin to protect them from stroke, depending on the calculated risk. The prevalence of AF in a population increases with age, with 8% of people over 80 having AF. Chronic AF leads to a small increase in the risk of death. A third of all strokes are caused by AF.
Contents
