Effects of Orthography on Second Language Phonology Learning, Awareness, Perception and Production【電子書籍】[ Bene Bassetti ]

This is the first book devoted to the effects of orthographic forms (spellings) on second language phonology.

Written by one of the pioneer researchers in the field, the book provides an authoritative overview of the effects of spellings on the perception, production, awareness, learning and teaching of sounds and spoken words in a second language. Using the findings and implications from a large-scale research project at its centre, the book reveals that English consonants spelled with double letters lead Italian learners and users of English as a second language to perceive, produce, classify, and learn English consonants as geminates (long consonants).

Presenting a narrative of a second language research project, and discussing its implications, the book will be of interest to scholars and researchers in the fields of orthography, phonology, and speech and language perception. Language teaching practitioners will also find the book useful.

The Vertical Dimension in Prosthetis and Orthognathodontics. Integration between Function and Aesthetics【電子書籍】[ Nazzareno Bassetti ]

It is more and more frequent in complex rehabilitations that the aesthetic assessment pre vails over function. This book’s objective consists in outlining a operative management path of the vertical dimension where the optimal restoration of function coincides with the aesthetic result. The vertical dimension is crucial both for a proper reconstruction of the occlusion and for a rehabilitation directed to the whole stomatognathic system. The text proposes in a simple and practical way the key concepts drawn from Prof. Slavicek and Prof. Sato’s philosophy, cutting across all the rehabilitative branches of dentistry, from removable to fixed prosthesis, from implant prosthesis to orthodontics, either that of the growing age or the one implemented in adult patients.

Bassetti: don Pietro Poggiolini e don Giovanni Cavini【電子書籍】[ Quinto Cappelli ]

Svegliamoci italici!

Addentrandosi in case, uffici, stadi, chat e parlamenti, l’autore ci svela, con incalzare ironico e graffiante, i meccanismi sociali e psicologici dell’offendersi.

A Distant Flickering Light A Ghost Story【電子書籍】[ Joy Bassetti Kruger ]

Tracy, Lily and Jake were spending a few days at the family holiday bungalow in a game reserve, that was owned by Jakes father. All went well until Tracey saw a flickering light in the distance that she knew should not have been there. The longer she watched the light, the more she thought about Johnny, her husband that had died a year ago.

Then a few days later, when she was alone at the house, she smelt smoke on the breath of the wind. She couldn't actually see any smoke from a fire, so feeling curious, she walked out into the veld to investigate. She knew the danger of a velt fire, especially when the grass was as dry and brittle as it was presently, but as she found a pathway that led towards the place where she'd seen the light shining from, she decided to follow it.

She hadn't gone far when she spotted a figure in a green anorak walking just ahead of her, so although it felt a little scary because Johnny had always worn a green anorak, she followed him anyway. He walked rapidly and she could barely keep up the pace, but once they had crossed a stone bridge that spanned a broad river, his pace slackened off slightly.

He followed a path that went through thick bushveld and she lost him after a while, but still feeling curious, she continued in that direction and eventually came to an old burned out farm house. Most of the walls had tumbled down, but she wallked from room to room as she stepped over the foundations. She wondered who had once lived in the house. Then walking through the frame of the old front door, she looked around for the figure she had been following, but she couldn't find him anywhere.

She spotted an old orchard up ahed and walked towards in, when suddely a sharp crackele drew her attention to the fierce fire that was now raging on the far side of the river, where she'd recently been walking. Feeling terrified that the flames might jump the river, she hid in an outhouse and when the threat had passed, she continued to walk a little further.

She came to an old graveyard, where some of the lettering on the stones had worn away, but once she'd rubbed some ash into the stonework, she was able to trace the letters. To her surprise the name Andersen emerged, which was Johnny's surname and now also hers.

She felt terrified and amazed all at the same time, but acknowledged the fact that she'd been led to safety from the fire by a vision of Johnny and decided that this had taken place due to his love for her and also the game reserve.

A 16oz. bottle of honey requires 1,152 bees to travel 112,000 miles and visit 4,5 million flowers, so the next time you pour honey on your breakfast toast, spare a thought for the bees that made it for you. This is also the reason why Beatrice is so passionate about the survival of all the bees in the world, so when she sees a bee exterminator truck parked outside Colonol Harrie's house, she barges through the gate and demands to know what is going on.

Harry explains that the bees have stung his sister, as well as the gardener and that this forced them to call in the exterminators. She tells him this is not the way to go about the problem, as a bee whisperer, like her friend George, will simply use smoke to calm the bees and a little persuasion to get the bees to go with him to an orchard where he already has several hives.

Harry is amused by her forcefullness and he agrees to go along with the plan, but he still has to pay a call out fee to the exterminators, who call Beatrice a bunny hugger.

When George arrives he goes about removing the bees efficiently and without a single person being stung, so Harry is very impressed.

After this, he and Beatrice become friends, but theirs is a stormy relationship with lots of ups and downs, before Harry arrives on Beatrice's doorstep one morning carrying a bunch of dafodills. But as he has a big grin on his face, Beatrice is suspicious of his actions and when he proposes, she gives him a rough time, before agreeing to go along with the plan. - A romance between an older couple who fall in love, but who will not admit it.

Oltre lo specchio di Alice.

Simon Becoming Simon

When Simon realizes that the swanky red Porche his father gave him a few days previously, was nothing more than a bribe to get him to lie under oath and say he was with his dad on four seperate occasions in the past, he panics.

But when his father's lawyers force him to rehearse what he'll be saying in court over and over again, until he is word perfect, he knows he'll have to come up with a plan to get away from them. He's afraid because he knows that his father has gone after people in the past, who refused to cooperate with him, but he also knows he could never stand up in court and lie, even for his father.

On the fourth day of the rehearals, when Simon feels he can't take any more prodding from the lawyers, he decides to make a break for his freedom. So he goes upstairs to his room, where he packs a small bag, straps his easel to it, takes money and his passport from the safe and then quietly slips out of the house.

He then calls a taxi to take him to the airport, with no particular destination in mind. Then later when he is on a plane to Paris, which happened to be the first available flight, he decides that Paris will be good for him,as he'll be able to paint pictures and sell them to tourists along the River Seine and earn himself a living. Earning a living, is quite a scary thought for Simon, since he has never previously had a job and has always relied on his wealthy father to pay his bills.

Once he has booked into a modest hotel in Paris, he walks down to the river and watches as a small boy sails some paper boats in the shallows and this gives him his first inspiration for a picture. Later, when the child's mother wants to buy the painting, he suggests that she buys him lunch instead and says he'll then give her the picture. They soon become friends and lovers, but theirs is a stormy relationship, because she is married and soon she returns to her husband.

Along the way another woman enters his life, and after she has established a friendship with him, she tells him she is his mother, whom he has not seen since he was four years old. She tells him that she recognised him due to his remarkable likeness to his father when he was young, and she also shows him some of her own paintings. Simon says he recognises that she is the artist that painted the pictures hanging on the wall of his childhood bedroom. Along the way Simon also meets many of her artist friends, who later help him to get ready for an exhibition of his work

And since the story is set mainly in Paris, this is also a love story about the other woman that come into Simon's life, some of whom leave him and then return, only to leave him again, but in the end Simon has to say goodbye to a special friend and he does this in an unusual way, by sending a fleet of paper boats down the river, because this is how he first met her, -on the day that her son sailed his own paper boats in the shallows of the river.

He has a breakthrough after this and soon finds there are many of his friends out there who are willing to help him organize a second exhibition of his paintings and also a couple of woman that are really interested in getting to know him better.

With this he decides he has now definately left his stormy past behind him and that he can now move on to having a happy life, filled with fun, laughter and friendship..

She also mentioned that she'd seen some of her old enemies from the Cold War, lurking around in the village where she lives.

She's asked for Susan's help in sending out five encrypted emails to MI6, should it become necessary and arranged that she would send her an sms, in the event of the threat becoming imminent.

Although Susan agreed to do this, she thought the threat existed entirely in her mother's head. This was why she was unprepared for when the sms for help finally arrived one morning, but she nevertheless managed to successfully send off the emails.

After this she got in her car and drove towards her mother's house, but en route she found her mother sitting at the bustop near her house.
