The Murder【電子書籍】[ Anton Chekhov ]

'The Murder' is a short story written by Anton Chekhov. It begins at the evening service celebrated at Progonnaya Station. Before the great ikon, painted in glaring colors on a background of gold, stood the crowd of railway servants with their wives and children, and also of the timbermen and sawyers who worked close to the railway line. The old priest from Vedenyapino conducted the service; the sacristan and Matvey Terehov were singing.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 300円

The Shooting Party (A Murder Mystery) Intriguing thriller by one of the greatest Russian author and playwright of Uncle Vanya, The Cherry Orchard, The Three Sisters and The Seagull【電子書籍】[ Anton Chekhov ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

This carefully crafted ebook: "The Shooting Party (A Murder Mystery)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Excerpt: "On an April day of the year 1880 the doorkeeper Audrey came into my private room and told me in a mysterious whisper that a gentleman had come to the editorial office and demanded insistently to see the editor. 'He appears to be a chinovnik,' Andrey added. 'He has a cockade…' 'Ask him to come another time,' I said, 'I am busy today. Tell him the editor only receives on Saturdays.' 'He was here the day before yesterday and asked for you. He says his business is urgent. He begs, almost with tears in his eyes, to see you. He says he is not free on Saturday… Will you receive him?'" (The Shooting Party, 1884) The Shooting Party is a triangular love story-cum-murder mystery novel and Chekhov's only novel. Not many people are aware of the fact that before becoming the celebrated short story writer and playwright he tried his hands at novel writing. One can witness the birth of Chekhov's unique style (although in its infancy) for which he would be later remembered for. Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) was a Russian physician, dramaturge and author who is often referred to as one of the seminal figures in the birth of early modernism in the theatre. He made no apologies for the difficulties he posed to the readers, insisting that the role of an artist was to ask questions, not to answer them.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 300円

Desperately craving another drink, he finds what he believes is a bottle of vodka in the cupboard, but it turns out to be paraffin. Upon drinking it, he experiences intense pain and believes he is dying. He goes to his sister-in-law, Dashenka, to say goodbye and confess his mistake.
Originally published in 1898 and performed for the first time in Moscow in 1899, “Uncle Vanya” is widely considered one of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s most important dramas. It is the tale of the visit of Serebryakov, a retired professor and his new, young wife, Yelena, to the rural estate that had belonged to Serebyrakov’s late first wife and that supports the couple in their urban lifestyle. The estate is run by Serebryakov’s adult unmarried daughter, Sonia, and her Uncle Vanya, brother to the late first wife. Essentially a reworking of another Chekhov play from a decade earlier, “The Wood Demon”, “Uncle Vanya” is a melancholic study in bitterness and regret as the characters reflect on their respective failures to accomplish their lives’ ambitions. Tensions and resentments boil over and Uncle Vanya is pushed to his breaking point when Serebryakov considers selling the estate so he may put the money in more lucrative investments with no thought to the lives he will displace in the process. A classic tragicomedy, “Uncle Vanya” has been praised as one of Chekhov’s most important plays ever since its first performance and continues to be revered and studied to this day. This edition follows the translation of Marian Fell and includes a biographical afterword.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 425円
