Keine Posaunen vor Jericho Die arch?ologische Wahrheit ?ber die Bibel【電子書籍】[ Israel Finkelstein ]

Taking the Leap Freeing Ourselves from Old Habits and Fears【電子書籍】[ Pema Chodron ]

Ever feel trapped in the same old habits and painful emotions time and time again? These are patterns we all face, and sometimes they feel impossible to shake. So how can we get unstuck? Drawing on time-honored Buddhist teachings on shenpa (all the attachments and compulsions that cause us suffering), Pema Ch?dr?n shows how certain habits of mind tend to “hook” us and get us stuck in states of anger, blame, self-hatred, addiction, and so much moreーand, most of all, how we can liberate ourselves from them. “This path entails uncovering three basic human qualities,” explains Pema. “They are natural intelligence, natural warmth, and natural openness. Everyone, everywhere, all over the globe, has these qualities and can call on them to help themselves and others.” Pema shares insights and exercises from her lifetime of practice that we can immediately put to use in our lives to awaken these essential qualities and help us to take a bold leap toward a new way of livingーone that will bring about positive transformation for ourselves and for our troubled world.

Professor Risley and the Imperial Japanese Troupe How an American Acrobat Introduced Circus to Japan--and Japan to the West【電子書籍】[ Frederik L. Schodt ]

The little-known true story of how a flamboyant circus promoter helped introduce Japan to the West in the late 19th century.

"Professor" Risley (Richard Risley Carlisle) introduced the Western circus to Japan in 1864. Three years later, this former acrobat gave many in the West their first glimpse of Japan when he took his "Imperial Japanese Troupe" of acrobats and jugglers on a triumphant tour of North America and Europe. Over the next few years, the Troupe performed before presidents, monarchs, and ordinary citizens.

Frederik L. Schodt argues compellingly that such early popular entertainments helped stir a curiosity about all things Japanese that eventually led to japonisme, The Mikado, and, in our time, the boom in manga and anime. Schodt's depiction of Risley and his troupe is enlivened by portraits of the circus demimonde and supported by nineteenth-century photographs, posters, and drawings, many in color.

His accounts of these first meetings between Westerners and Japanese shed new light on how different cultures meet, mingle, and influence each other. Descriptions of crowds, dazzling routines, and superstar troupe performers like the famous Little All Right are a delightful revelation to anyone interested in Asia, the circus, and popular entertainment.

Desire in Chromatic Harmony A Psychodynamic Exploration of Fin de Si?cle Tonality【電子書籍】[ Kenneth M. Smith ]

How does musical harmony engage listeners in relations of desire? Where does this desire come from? Author Kenneth Smith seeks to answer these questions by analyzing works from the turn of the twentieth- century that are both harmonically enriched and psychologically complex. Desire in Chromatic Harmony yields a new theory of how chromatic chord progressions direct the listener on intricate journeys through harmonic space, mirroring the tensions of the psyche found in Schopenhauer, Freud, Lacan, Lyotard, and Deleuze. Smith extends this mode of enquiry into sophisticated music theory, while exploring philosophically engaged European and American composers such as Richard Strauss, Alexander Skryabin, Josef Suk, Charles Ives, and Aaron Copland. Focusing on harmony and chord progression, the book drills down into the diatonic undercurrent beneath densely chromatic and dissonant surfaces. From the obsession with death and mourning in Suk's asrael Symphony to an exploration of "perversion" in Strauss's elektra; from the Sufi mysticism of Szymanowski's Song of the Night to the failed fantasy of the American dream in Copland's The Tender Land, Desire in Chromatic Harmony cuts a path through the dense forests of chromatic complexity, revealing the psychological make-up of post-Wagnerian psychodynamic music.

Zbohom materializmus Pr?chod kvantovej fyziky ukon?il tragick? chybu, ktor? trvala ?tyri storo?ia【電子書籍】[ Bruno Del Medico ]

T?mto sp?sobom materializmus ignoruje zlo?it? aspekty ?udskej sk?senosti a samotnej reality. Jeho obmedzuj?ce videnie zanedb?va ?lohu nemateri?lneho aspektu a subjekt?vnej sk?senosti vo filozofickej oblasti, ??m vytv?ra ?iasto?n? a obmedzen? obraz kozmu okolo n?s.

Kvantov? povaha reality a Heisenbergov princ?p neur?itosti zd?raz?uj? d?le?itos? pozorovate?a a potrebu nov?ho sp?sobu ch?pania samotnej hmoty.

V priebehu minul?ho storo?ia kvantov? fyzika v?razne vyvr?tila materialistick? paradigmu a otriasla z?kladmi n??ho sp?sobu interpret?cie sveta. Zd? sa, ?e anal?za tohto zlomov?ho bodu je preniknut? zm?ten?m a ??tos?ou, preto?e odhalila vn?torn? chyby a vedeck? neopodstatnenos?, ktor? charakterizovali historick? materializmus. Nov? vedeck? poznatky n?m dnes umo??uj? prep?sa? scen?r na?ich ist?t v zmysle poznania a ch?pania kozmu.

Ne?prosn? sila objavov v kvantovom poli silne podkopala koncep?n? pevnosti materializmu.

Materialistick? predpoklad ?pln?ho a definit?vneho pochopenia sveta sa rozpl?va vo vzduchu a otv?ra cestu k pokornej?ej a otvorenej?ej v?zii, vedomej si svojich obmedzen?.

Zatia? ?o sa vo vedeckom prostred? udom?c?uje nov? koncep?n? trend, objavuj? sa perspekt?vy a v?zvy. Sme povolan? integrova? vedomosti, nanovo definova? hranice medzi mys?ou a hmotou a prija? komplexnej?iu a inkluz?vnej?iu v?ziu vesm?ru.

Kvantov? fyzika zohr?va nezmazate?n? ?lohu a n?ti materializmus prehltn?? my?lienky, ktor? s?m v?dy poh?davo odmietal.

Machig Labdron and the Foundations of Chod【電子書籍】[ Jerome Edou ]

Machig Labdron is popularly considered to be both a dakini and a deity, an emanation of Yum Chenmo, or Prajnaparamita, the embodiment of the wisdom of the buddhas. Historically, this Tibetan woman, a contemporary of Milarepa, was an adept and outstanding teacher, a mother, and a founder of a unique transmission lineage known as the Ch?d of Mahamudra. This translation of the most famous biography of Machig Labdron, founder of the unique Mahamudra Ch?d tradition, is presented together with a comprehensive overview of Ch?d's historical and doctrinal origins in Indian Buddhism and its subsequent transmission to Tibet.

Ch?d refers to cutting through the grasping at a self and its attendant emotional afflictions. Most famous for its teaching on transforming the aggregates into an offering of food for demons as a compassionate act of self-sacrifice, Ch?d aims to free the mind from all fear and to arouse realization of its true nature, primordially clear bliss and emptiness.

Fairy Tales of Slav Peasants and Herdsmen【電子書籍】[ Aleksander Chod?ko ]

Fairy Tales of Slav Peasants and Herdsmen was written in the year 1896 by Aleksander Chodzko. This book is one of his most popular novels, and has been translated into several other languages around the world.

THE ABODE OF THE GODS (excerpt)

Once upon a time there were two brothers whose father had left them but a small fortune. The eldest grew very rich, but at the same time cruel and wicked, whereas there was nowhere a more honest or kinder man than the younger. But he remained poor, and had many children, so that at times they could scarcely get bread to eat. At last, one day there was not even this in the house, so he went to his rich brother and asked him for a loaf of bread. Waste of time! His rich brother only called him beggar and vagabond, and slammed the door in his face.

The poor fellow, after this brutal reception, did not know which way to turn. Hungry, scantily clad, shivering with cold, his legs could scarcely carry him along. He had not the heart to go home, with nothing for the children, so he went towards the mountain forest. But all he found there were some wild pears that had fallen to the ground. He had to content himself with eating these, though they set his teeth on edge. But what was he to do to warm himself, for the east wind with its chill blast pierced him through and through. "Where shall I go?" he said; "what will become of us in the cottage? There is neither food nor fire, and my brother has driven me from his door." It was just then he remembered having heard that the top of the mountain in front of him was made of crystal, and had a fire for ever burning upon it. "I will try and find it," he said, "and then I may be able to warm myself a little." So he went on climbing higher and higher till he reached the top, when he was startled to see twelve strange beings sitting round a huge fire. He stopped for a moment, but then said to himself, "What have I to lose? Why should I fear? God is with me. Courage!"

So he advanced towards the fire, and bowing respectfully, said: "Good people, take pity on my distress. I am very poor, no one cares for me, I have not even a fire in my cottage; will you let me warm myself at yours?" They all looked kindly at him, and one of them said: "My son, come sit down with us and warm yourself."

So he sat down, and felt warm directly he was near them. But he dared not speak while they were silent. What astonished him most was that they changed seats one after another, and in such a way that each one passed round the fire and came back to his own place. When he drew near the fire an old man with long white beard and bald head arose from the flames and spoke to him thus:...

Aleksander Borejko Chod?ko (30 August 1804 ? 27 December 1891) was a Polish poet, Slavist, and Iranologist.

He was born in Krzywicze in Russia (today's Kryvi?y, Belarus), and attended the University of Vilnius. Machik's Complete Explanation Clarifying the Meaning of Chod (Expanded Edition)【電子書籍】[ Sarah Harding ]

Fear, anger, and negativity are states that each of us have to contend with. Machik's Complete Explanation, the most famous book of the teachings of Machik Lapdr?n, the great female saint and yogini of eleventh- to twelfth-century Tibet, addresses these issues in a practical, direct way.

Machik developed a system, the Mahamudra Ch?d, that takes the Buddha's teachings as a basis and applies them to the immediate experiences of negative mind states and malignant forces. Her unique feminine approach is to invoke and nurture the very "demons" that we fear and hate, transforming those reactive emotions into love. It is the tantric version of developing compassion and fearlessness, a radical method of cutting through ego-fixation.

This expanded edition includes Machik Lapdr?n's earliest known teaching, the original source text for the tradition, The Great Bundle of Precepts on Severance (Ch?d). This pithy set of instructions reveals that the teachings of the perfection of wisdom are the true inspiration for Ch?d. It is beautifully clarified in a short commentary by Rangjung Dorje, the Third Karmapa.
