楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

SWEET PAIN is a remarkable story of adventure and human perseverance as experienced by Eero Sorila in the course of his travels through 180 countries. In this third edition of Sweet Pain Eero shares with us his adventures in 20 countries. Mr. Sorila also reveals his basic philosophy of travel, namely that willpower is more important than monetary power, that relationships are more important than comfortable accommodations, and that the experience of Providence is more than just sheer luck. The book is a page-turner since at the conclusion of almost every episode he leaves us with the question, “How can you top that?” or with the exclamation, “That’s incredible!” These gripping narratives of raw adventure are accompanied by 128 photos of nature and human interest. The Crucial Role of Mindsets in Innovation Efforts Opening the Black Box in the Context of Frugal Innovation【電子書籍】[ Malte Krohn ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Innovation research has investigated the relevance of innovations for organizational competitiveness and the role of innovations for social as well as economic welfare. Accordingly, scholars and practitioners frequently emphasize the innovation processes that lead to desired innovative outcomes. Nevertheless, these innovation processes have to be carried out by motivated individuals. Increasingly, academic literature takes the mindsets of these actors into consideration. However, diverging conceptualizations limit our understanding of the term "mindset" and the role of individuals’ mindsets in organizational innovation efforts. This book aims at opening the “black box” of innovation as a mindset. Linking mindset theories from social psychology to the context of frugal innovation, the author provides rigorous conceptual work on mindsets in innovation. This conceptual research is supported by findings from two empirical studies. This book makes important contributions to theoryand practice: to academic research by developing conceptual clarity on understanding innovation as a mindset and providing supportive empirical evidence, and to innovation practice by showing how a detailed understanding of individuals’ mindsets can inform evidence-based change interventions.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 10,938円

The Frugal Superpower America's Global Leadership in a Cash-Strapped Era【電子書籍】[ Michael Mandelbaum ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

In this incisive new book, Michael Mandelbaum argues that the era marked by an expansive American foreign policy is coming to an end. During the seven decades from the U.S. entry into World War II in 1941 to the present, economic constraints rarely limited what the United States did in the world. Now that will change. The country's soaring deficits, fueled by the huge costs of the financial crash and of its entitlement programs -- Social Security and Medicare -- will compel a more modest American international presence.

In assessing the consequences of this new, less expensive foreign policy, Mandelbaum, one of America's leading foreign policy experts, describes the policies the United States will have to discontinue, assesses the potential threats from China, Russia, and Iran, and recommends a new policy, centered on a reduction in the nation's dependence on foreign oil, which can do for America and the world in the twenty-first century what the containment of the Soviet Union did in the twentieth.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 1,068円

The Frugal Housewife【電子書籍】[ Lydia Maria Child ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

A collection of recipes, household hints, and thrifty tips that paints a fascinating portrait of American home life nearly two centuries ago.

Published in 1829 in Boston, The Frugal Housewife was written by one of the foremost female writers and social reformers of her time, Lydia Maria Child. The charming collection of recipes and tips for homemakers of the early nineteenth century emphasized frugality in the kitchen and self-reliance in the householdーmaking this work wildly popular in its day, with more than thirty-five printings.

Much of the content is still relevant today in the first American cookbook to emphasize the themes of thrift and economy in the kitchen. Considered a “must-read” for every new bride in its time, The Frugal Housewife offered simple recipes such as Apple Pie, Corned Beef, Gingerbread, Indian Cakes, and Pie Crust, but also included advice on parenting, cleaning, and medical problems, and numerous practical, Yankee-straightforward tips for saving money. Not just a collection for antiquarians, The Frugal Housewife is a fascinating work that will delight modern-day readers with its quaint but still usable recipes and tips.

This edition of The Frugal Housewife was reproduced by permission from the volume in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1812 by Isaiah Thomas, a Revolutionary War patriot and successful printer and publisher, the society is a research library documenting the lives of Americans from the colonial era through 1876. The society collects, preserves, and makes available as complete a record as possible of the printed materials from the early American experience. She also learned how to make the best of whatever was in front of her, from her grandmother, and so on for centuries. Millenniums ago, her ancestors when gathering in the woods for herbs and vegetables while the menfolk of the family trapped and hunted for meat, game and anything else edible and delicious.
It was then grandma’s many times great-grandmother’s job to make all these ingredients into something delicious and healthy as well as palatable and nourishing. So she used her instinct and her creativity to make delicacies with the ingredients available at hand.

Although science-fiction already has stories about scientists making complete little nutritional packages in the shape of pills that are going to take the shape of food in the coming centuries, we are very fortunate that we do not have to face that sort of blandness in our meals today.
We still have the good fortune of going to the nearest market or the nearest organic garden and collecting fresh greens, as well as herbs. We have plenty of fresh meat at hand. And best of all, we have all the ingredients to make good wholesome food.

We only hope, judging by the pleasure most of us get from eating, the preparation, cooking and serving of this nutritious food is going to be a human activity which is going to be around for a long time.

But most of us cannot afford to have some of the more exotic ingredients, of which we dream. Either they are not available to us in our city. Or perhaps they are beyond our budget. Unfortunately, for a large percentage of people all over the world, budget constraints are the reason why they have to make do with makeshift meals instead of eating what nature intended for them ? good wholesome, natural ingredients.

Grandma was a frugal person. She lived in a time when the dollars earned by grandpa had to be stretched in such a manner that the whole family could be fed and fed well. Times changed and times of prosperity came along, and the eating habits of the whole family changed. Instead of two or three healthy meals in a day, there was food aplenty and the whole family could now afford to eat whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and in large quantities.

This naturally gave rise to problems including obesity. Also, by not regulating the meal intake as well as the quality of the meals, the quality of the general health of grandma’s children deteriorated as time went by.

However, the circle of financial constraints has gone and come around again and the time for tightening belts and looking at our budgets has become the top priority. A majority of us all over the world again are looking for ways and means in which we can get the proper nutrition in the form of proteins, vitamins, minerals and energy, which our bodies required to keep functioning in a healthy manner.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 393円

Mrs. Porter's New Southern Cookery Book And Companion for Frugal and Economical Housekeepers【電子書籍】[ Mrs. M.E. Porter ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

This down-to-earth kitchen companion “for frugal and economical housekeepers” was designed to help reconstitute the rich cookery traditions of the region that had been interrupted by the Civil War, and adapt them to the new requirements for thrift and “making do.” The cuisine reflects that time when a new generation of southerners began to reach out beyond their borders and incorporate other regional and foreign dishes into their homes. The hundreds of primarily southern recipes also include dishes from all over the United Statesーa new feature for a southern cookbookーthat appealed to a mass audience rather than the elite class. Mrs. Porter appears to have been determined not to offend anyone, so “Yankee Fruit Cake” is joined by “Confederate Fruit Cake,” and “Wine Sauce” is balanced by “Temperance Foam Sauce.” The list of entrees confirms the promise of frugality, and indicates what ingredients were available at the time: fresh seafood was plentiful, as were beef, mutton, and game. The chapter on vegetables is diversified and long with many recipes for potatoes (another chapter contains what may be the first printed recipes for Potato Bread), tomatoes, eggplant, pumpkin, beets, turnips, and cucumbers. Half of the book is devoted to cakes, puddings, and sweets.

This edition of Mrs. Porter’s Southern Cookery Book was reproduced by permission from the volume in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1812 by Isaiah Thomas, a Revolutionary War patriot and successful printer and publisher, the Society is a research library documenting the life of Americans from the colonial era through 1876. Frugal Living: When Less Means More【電子書籍】[ Fhilcar Faunillan ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Table of Contents

Frugal Living
Chapter 1: Introduction to Frugal Living
Frugal Living as a Choice
Frugality as a State of Mind
Living Frugally Doesn’t Mean Leaving the Fun
Chapter 2: What the Great Depression Has Taught Us
Chapter 3: Today’s Lifestyle: Mindless and Consumerist
Chapter 4: How Society Has Conditioned Our Current Lifestyles
Chapter 5: Small House Living
Saying NO To Expensive Home Loans
Other Benefits of Small House Living
Conclusion
Author Bio
Publisher

Introduction to Frugal Living

What comes into your mind when you first hear about frugal living? You may be one of the many people who are likely to utter the words such as cheap lifestyle, miserable life, boring, or unhappy life. However, frugal living does not mean any of those words. It is not a miserable way of life because it is a choice in the first place because no one ever chooses to live a miserable life. More so, it is not boring considering the number of meaningful activities one could engage in when living in frugality. And more than that, frugal living does not mean having an unhappy life because it only means finding happiness beyond what money could offer.

Surely, money allows you to buy the things you need, or maybe gain significant experiences. However, with the consumerist lifestyle that most people have, there is a greater tendency to consume more, and spend for what is useless in life. Most people do not even realize that there is an abundance of ways to get to experience what they want in life. Instead, they go for expensive materials and buy those with big brand names, or get a luxury vacation package, and then show it off for others to see because it is what has been taught to them.

When we talk about frugal living, we are dealing with a free lifestyle. It also means untying from a societally controlled lifestyle, which is the root of many of the pressing issues today. With the overly mindless consumption and consumerist lifestyle that most people have, we could say that the world desperately needs to learn the principles of frugal living. The proof of this frantic need for change is seen every day, when you see people drive to work in their single-occupied SUVs, whizz at the sight of beers and pack of cigarettes that minimum wage workers feast on during the day, or the group of youth holding their smartphones barely talking to each other. Regardless of your family’s income levels, no one is immune to mindless consumption and no one is exempted from rejecting frugality.

Most people fail to pursue frugal living, even at the micro and macro levels. The United States economy is falling at the pit of debt, which is thrice the GNP of Japan, yet the country continues to spend more. And for the information of everybody, Japan has the world’s third largest economy. That makes it so unbelievable how we confidently spend money, while also watching a handful of European countries worry about debt and everything combined. And it is not so surprising that this consumerist behavior reflects the spending behavior of most of its people.

Fortunately, at present, there is a growing return to frugal living, given the condition and the aftermath of the Great Recession. The unemployment rates serve as a wake-up call for proper execution of our financial responsibilities.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 393円
