Intimate Violence Across the Lifespan Interpersonal, Familial, and Cross-Generational Perspectives【電子書籍】[ Tova Band-Winterstein ]

Evidence pertaining to continual violence throughout the life cycle coupled with the experience of growing old in a life permeated by intimate violence is scarce. And the focus is usually on the victims ─ usually, the older, battered women ─ and seldom on their aging partners or adult children who were part and parcel of the violent dynamics in the family system. With the increase in longevity and the older population’s subsequent growth in size, the number of elderly couples living and aging in long-lasting conflictive relationships is on the rise.

The relatively intense preoccupation with elder abuse in the gerontological literature in recent years has not specifically addressed long-term intimate violence among the old adults and its lasting consequences. Similarly, the literature on intimate intergenerational relationships in old age has usually focused on normative exchanges between partners and their extended family, including their adult children. Therefore, conflictive relationships, and particularly violent ones, have also fallen outside the scope of this body of research. This volume describes and analyzes the various perspectives of family members concerning life, and particularly old age, in the shadow of long-term intimate violence. It explores how people make sense out of living and aging in violence, how interpersonal, familial and cross-generational relationships are perceived and reconstructed and how “we-ness” is achieved, if at all, in such families.

Children's Rights and the Philosophy of Childhood: A Generational Dialogue【電子書籍】[ Werner Boesen ]

The philosophy of childhood is still a young science area. Human being is childhood and adulthood and requires communication, a dialogue. The dialogue philosophy offers an integrative basis in the interdisciplinary context of psychology, biology, pedagogy, sociology, law and religion: ?What is childhood? ?Which natural law does a child have? ?Who carries the responsibility for a child? ?Which stages of childhood development can be differentiated in dialogue philosophy? ?What means the generation concept for childhood and adulthood? ?What is the basic thesis of education? ?Which myth (fairy tale) was paved the way for our state constitution? ?Which parenting conflict remains unsolvable? ?What fundamental rights are missing in the United Nations Convention on the rights of child? ?Which rights and duties can be deduced from the self-understanding of nature? Towards adulthood being a child means a weaker position and the risk of abuse. In the childhood-philosophical sense, an answer to the risks of being a child and the best possible protection of the child is required. The legal foundation is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. But we do not reach the children with laws. It takes more than just dialogue and parental care. There are controversial arguments in politics and science. The author finds clear answers.

Park Road Plaza Lessons in Life, Leadership and Generational Diversity【電子書籍】[ Jeff Ireland ]

Generational diversity has become a mainstream topic over the past decade due to the recent changes and advancements in workplace technology, the entry of college graduates into the workforce, and the late exit of baby boomers from the workforce. Managers are left to lead a multigenerational team with little understanding of the leadership and management skills it requires. Surveys indicate that fully 60 percent of employers report tensions between employees of different generations. As a generalization, older staff members have low opinions about their younger colleagues work ethics, and younger employees have poor opinions about their older counterparts abilities to adapt to the changing times. This book follows the journey of Alex Steele as he seeks to gain a better understanding of the differences between these generations and what makes them tick. Throughout the course of this book, he discovers not only the skill to lead but the skills to live a full and fulfilling life. In the end, he emerges with a better understanding of people and, more importantly, a better understanding of himself.

Generational Curses in the Pentateuch An American and Maasai Intercultural Analysis【電子書籍】[ Beth E. Elness-Hanson ]

Although the demographics of World Christianity demonstrate a population shift to the Global South, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, the preponderance of biblical scholarship continues to be dominated by Western scholars in pursuit of their contextual questions that are influenced by an Enlightenment-oriented worldview. Unfortunately, nascent methodologies used to bridge this chasm often continue to marginalize indigenous voices. In contradistinction, Beth E. Elness-Hanson’s research challenges biblical scholars to engage stronger methods for dialogue with global voices, as well as encourages Majority World scholars to share their perspectives with the West.

Elness-Hanson’s fundamental question is: How do we more fully understand the “generational curses” in the Pentateuch? The phrase, “visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation,” appears four times in the Pentateuch: Exod 20:4?6; Exod 34:6?7; Num 14:18; and Deut 5:8?10. While generational curses remain prevalent within the Maasai worldview in East Africa, an Enlightenment-influenced worldview diminishes curses as a phenomenon. However, fuller understandings develop as we listen and learn from each other.

This research develops a theoretical framework from Hans-Georg Gadamer’s “fusion of horizons” and applies it through Ellen Herda’s anthropological protocol of “participatory inquiry.” The resulting dialogue with Maasai theologians in Tanzania, builds bridges of understanding across cultures. Elness-Hanson’s intercultural analysis of American and Maasai interpretations of the Pentateuchal texts on the generational curses demonstrates that intercultural dialogues increase understandings, which otherwise are limited by one worldview.

KEYS TO BREAK ANCESTRAL EVIL PATTERN AND GENERATIONAL CURSES EFFECTIVE PRAYERS TO BREAK EVIL PATTERN【電子書籍】[ OBIHEART MADISON ]

INTRODUCTION

Evil Family Pattern are satanic negative repetitive occurrences that are common and noticeable in a given or particular family that follows ancestral blood to off springs.

Ancestral family evil covenants are agreements entered into by ancestors of a particular family, clan, kindred, community or even a nation, either fourth, third, second or first generation, with evil deities for whatever reason. Such reasons could be for protection, for power, fame and influence, or for riches and wealth. The covenant or agreement flows through the entire family lineage.

Generational curses are words of expression spoken from a wounded heart which is meant to cause harm or negative occurrences in the life of an individual, family, clan or community or even a whole nation. A curse is also an evil spell or words placed on people with the intent to inflict harm. For this reason a curse could manifest in the form of poverty, sickness, untimely death, misfortunes in all ramifications. Oftentimes curses are placed for the purpose of revenge flowing from a wounded heart as a result of wrong doings done to a person or a people.

Demons are invoked whenever a curse is released or invoked and these evil spirits accompany the curse wherever the victim goes in order to enforce or accomplish the purpose for the release of the curse.

This book has been able to x-ray and expose evil pattern, evil covenant and generational curses, and have brought out divine strategies to permanently deal with and eradicate these satanic phenomenon out of the lives of true believers of the Kingdom of God.

Evang. Chinese Public Theology Generational Shifts and Confucian Imagination in Chinese Christianity【電子書籍】[ Alexander Chow ]

It has been widely recognized that Christianity is the fastest growing religion in one of the last communist-run countries of the world: the People's Republic of China. Yet it would be a mistake to describe Chinese Christianity as merely a clandestine faith or, as hoped by the Communist Party of China, a privatized religion. Alexander Chow argues that Christians in mainland China have been constructing a more intentional public theology to engage the Chinese state and society, since the end of the Cultural Revolution (1966-76). Chinese Public Theology recalls the events which have led to this transformation and examines the developments of Christianity across three generations of Chinese intellectuals from the state-sanctioned Protestant church, the secular academy, and the growing urban renaissance in Calvinism. Moreover, Chow shows how each of these generations have provided different theological responses to the same sociopolitical moments of the last three decades. This study illustrates how a growing understanding of Chinese public theology has been developed through a subconscious intermingling of Christian and Confucian understandings of public intellectualism. These factors result in a contextually-unique understanding of public theology, but also one which is faced by contextual limitations as well. With this in mind, Chow draws from the Eastern Orthodox doctrine of theosis and the Chinese traditional teaching of the unity of Heaven and humanity (Tian ren heyi) to offer a way forward in the construction of a Chinese public theology.

Belonging to the Nation Generational Change, Identity and the Chinese Diaspora【

This study reviews developments in the ethnic and national identity of the descendants of migrants, taking ethnic Chinese as a case study. Our core question is why, in spite of debates worldwide about identity, exclusion and rights, do minority communities continue to suffer discrimination and attacks? This question is asked in view of the growing incidence in recent years of ‘racial’ conflicts between majority and minority communities and among minorities, in both developed and developing countries. The study examines national identity from the perspective of migrants’ descendants, whose national identity may be more rooted than is often thought. Concepts such as ‘new ethnicities’, ‘cultural fluidity’, and ‘new’ and ‘multiple’ identities feature in this examination. These concepts highlight identity changes across generations and the need to challenge and reinterpret the meaning of ‘nation’ and to review problems with policy initiatives designed to promote nation-building in multi-ethnic societies.

This book was originally published as a special issue of Ethnic and Racial Studies.

South Sudanese Community Insights: A Cross-Generational Cross-Cultural Rescue Model for Families and Family Counselors【電子書籍】[ John Chuol Kuek ]

South Sudanese people have experienced tremendous changes both within their homeland and as refugees abroad. This book provides a picture of a typical South Sudanese cultural way of life, and describes challenges of both South Sudanese families and western professionals involved in counseling this population. John Chuol Kuek was born in South Sudan and experienced a series of refugee camps on his way to a life in Southern California. In addition to adjusting culturally himself, he managed to raise a family, volunteer for his community, and is now a Ph.D. Advanced Candidate in Psychology. There is much practical, warm-hearted wisdom within these pages.

This book has been written for three groups of people and issues: (1) South Sudanese couples who were born, grew up and married in South Sudan, (2) young Sudanese couples and adolescents whom were born and grew up in refugee camps and the western world, who have not had a chance to experience a typical South Sudanese cultural way of life and therefore have hard times juggling between the three cultures (refugee camp, the South Sudanese and the Western World) in terms of raising their families, and (3) the behavioral health or mental health professionals serving the Sudanese and other groups whose cultures are similar to the South Sudanese worldwide.

This book has seven purposes: (1) to explore the impact of cultural change on the South Sudanese marriage couples, not only in the Western world, but also in Africa, (2) explore the impact of separation and divorce on the South Sudanese's single parents and their children and the role of child support on the absent parent, (3) the change of the South Sudanese's marriage system as a result of an impact of the cultural revolution in the West, (4) the role of American's domestic violence laws on the Sudanese families, (5) the bigger picture of the South Sudanese's problem worldwide, (6) offer step-by-step education to help reduce the high risk of losing their cultural values, preventing mental health risk as a result of being overwhelmed with staggering issues, and help get the best out of the US educational system, not only for their benefits, but also for the benefits of those in the new born country, the Republic of South Sudan, (7) assist the behavioral or mental health professionals involved in counseling the South Sudanese and other groups with similar culture and behavior, with appropriate education to provide competence services.

The typical South Sudanese values and the way of life have changed tremendously from the refugee camps. Life in the refugee camps have traumatized this generation and completely changed their behaviors. There were up to eight hundred thousand people with no clean water, one medical clinic, one primary school, and a military training camp for white army recruits. Many children and adults perished in the camps in large numbers due to the many communicable diseases such as typhoid, cholera, yellow fever, measles, hepatitis, tuberculosis, meningitis, just to name a few.

Medical help was lacking, with only one or two doctors serving eight hundred thousand people plus. Eight hundred thousand people were sustained by the United Nations' world food program. South Sudanese community members saw their traditional values and dignity began to erode in the camps. The majority of those living in the camp had never experienced city life before arriving in camp.

In search of the answer to the struggles, some Sudanese and Nuer figures have stepped forward and spoken openly about these problems. Among the pioneers in this struggle is uncle Thowath Pal Chay, a Nuer Ethiopian political dissident and Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan. This book addresses the enormous issues in diasporas as well as in the newly formed country, the Republic of South Sudan.

Masculinities, Migration and Inter-Generational Relations【電子書籍】[ Katie Wright ]

This book examines father-son relations and their role in the transfer of forms of masculinity and fathering practices. It also explores how far the psychosocial resources transferred from fathers to sons enable sons to navigate challenges in their everyday lives, particularly in contexts of disadvantage and marginalization. This study is a successor to an earlier book examining the inter-generational transfer of human wellbeing amongst Latin American migrant women and their daughters. By extending this analysis to the case of migrant fathers and sons this book explores the impacts of international migration on constructions of masculinity and fatherhood whilst investigating the utility of resources passed intergenerationally in a different social, political and economic environment.

Rosa Lee A Generational Tale Of Poverty And Survival In Urban America【電子書籍】[ Leon Dash ]

Based on a heart-rending and much discussed series in the Washington Post, this is the story of one woman and her family living in the projects in Washington, D.C. A transcendent piece of writing, it won the Pulitzer Prize and the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award. For four years Leon Dash of the Washington Post followed the lives of Rosa Lee Cunningham, her children, and five of her grandchildren, in an effort to understand the persistence of poverty and pathology within America's black underclass. Rosa Lee's life story spans a half century of hardship in the slums and housing projects of Southeast Washington, a stone's throw from the marble halls and civic monuments of the world's most prosperous nation. Yet for all of America's efforts, Rosa Lee and millions like her remain trapped in a cycle of poverty characterized by illiteracy, teenage pregnancy, drugs, and violent crime. Dash brings us into her life and the lives of her family members offering a human drama that statistics can only refer to. He also shows how some people -- including two of Rosa Lee's children -- have made it out of the ghetto, breaking the cycle to lead stable middle-class lives in the mainstream of American society.

Generational Gap in Japanese Politics A Longitudinal Study of Political Attitudes and Behaviour【電子書籍】[ Willy Jou ]

After decades of stable and seemingly semi-permanent single-party dominance, Japanese politics have gone through fundamental changes since the early 1990s. Government ministries have been reorganised, prime ministerial powers strengthened, and rules for electing the lower house of parliament overhauled. Furthermore, frequent formation, merger, splintering and disappearance of new parties have continued for more than two decades.

How do citizens make sense of politics amidst such rapid shifts? The authors address this question by focusing on attitudinal and behavioural changes and continuities with respect to political ideology. They explore what issues citizens associate with ideological terms, where they perceive various parties on a conservative-progressive dimension, and to what extent ideology affects their vote choice. Results of new surveys are also presented to shed light on distinctions between different ideological labels and profiles of radicalright supporters. In addition, all topics are discussed with an eye to identifying divergent patterns between older and younger generations.

Memory and Honor Cultural and Generational Ministry with Korean American Communities【電子書籍】[ Simon C. Kim ]

Memory and Honor is a theological reflection on the American experience of the people of Korean descent. It is a reflection on the heritage of rupture, displacement, and resettlement as the key to identity and hope for those continuing to live in between the cultures, languages, and belief systems of Korea and the United States.

This book gives voice to the first generation of immigrants and their children. Since the majority of Korean immigrants are Protestants, the first- and second-generation Catholic community is a minority of minorities, an ethnic minority as well as a religious minority. Thus, as a minority group and as a minority of minorities, Korean American Catholics may have more to contribute to church and society since this country was founded, developed, and maintained by immigrants such as these. Readers will come away with a deeper appreciation of the Korean immigrant contribution and more readily see the Korean American Catholic community as an authentic expression of church.

Simon Kim is assistant professor of theology at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, LA. He earned a Ph.D. in theology from The Catholic University of America in 2011, specializing in theology in cross-cultural contexts. He works extensively with Korean American communities and offers conferences, workshops, and retreats across the country on Korean American pastoral ministry.

I've done it for you. Generational Cohabitation and the Family Business【電子書籍】[ Franco Cesaro ]

Every day, when I deal with the events impacting family-owned businesses, the anxieties, emotions, plans, enthusiasms, conflicts, and errors that I feel inside me build up and spill over. These feelings characterized my first eighteen years of life and left an indelible imprinting.
The case studies that I have gathered in over thirty years of professional study and research, including the university setting, today permit me to investigate human, organizational and economic realities that are common to the majority of families engaged in entrepreneurial activities in Italy and in the world.
The complexity of psycho-social dynamics interwoven with the purely technical ones render this sort of professional activity all the more fascinating, new and productive. It is a profession that tends toward giving life; statistics show that two thirds of family businesses do not survive the second generation and only 9% survive the third.
Each time I accompany one of these businesses to any positive result and we plan future scenarios together, I feel that on that day in April in 1974 I was wrong; nothing is ever really ended.

Franco Cesaro is the owner of Cesaro&Associati. He specializes in uniting business and family values and dynamics. The main focus of his studies is the individual who works in organizations. In order to grow, these organizations must decide to invest in culture which is a prerequisite of autonomy, the development of talent and the solution of problems. At present he teaches at the University of Milan. He is the author of Non ne posso pi? dei venditori (2003), Piccoli e scatenati (2004) and Racconti di fabbrica, with M. Bini (2011).
