The Hunger That Reveals God【電子書籍】[ Lou immi ]

|

The Hunger That Reveals God

"When the body stops eating, the soul starts speaking."**

What happens when a human being stops feeding everything that is not their true self?

This book is a forty day inner journey into the mind, body, spirit, and sky. It combines myth, spiritual science, ancestral wisdom, and deep emotional truth to reveal something ancient and universal: hunger is not a punishment, hunger is a doorway.

Follow the story of Silas, a man who enters the forest to complete a forty day fast. As his body empties, he begins to meet the creatures living inside him, the traumas stored in his gut, the fears hidden in his breath, and the patterns built from childhood.

He faces The Gnawer, The Shade, The Hunger Wolf, The Anxiety Beast, the Griever, the Trauma Serpents, and the Noise Swarm, each representing a layer of his past that must dissolve. When the body empties, the spirit rises, and Silas begins to see the sky come alive with cloud animals and ancestral symbols guiding him toward awakening.

The story expands into a cosmic spiritual transformation where Silas meets Skynox the cloud lion, Aravion the serpent of the sky, Pelundra the dove of peace, and Graylor the stallion of light. He then walks into the final seven days of awakening, meeting the Ancestors, the Breath Mother, the Spirit of Stillness, the Mirror of God, and the God within himself.

The book also includes a full teaching companion on hunger, trauma release, breathwork, emotional detox, nervous system healing, and the ancient fasting traditions that shaped spiritual history.

This is not a book about starving the body. It is a book about quieting the noise that blocks the soul.

It is a return to the wisdom of the ancestors.

A return to breath.

A return to clarity.

A return to God within.

Readers who love metaphysics, spirituality, breathwork, fasting, trauma healing, mysticism, and mythic storytelling will be transformed by this work.

This book is not just read.

It is experienced.

Look up.

Your awakening begins with one breath.

An Ethnography of Hunger Politics, Subsistence, and the Unpredictable Grace of the Sun【電子書籍】[ Kristin Phillips ]
|

In An Ethnography of Hunger Kristin D. Phillips examines how rural farmers in central Tanzania negotiate the interconnected projects of subsistence, politics, and rural development. Writing against stereotypical Western media images of spectacular famine in Africa, she examines how people live withーrather than die fromーhunger. Through tracing the seasonal cycles of drought, plenty, and suffering and the political cycles of elections, development, and state extraction, Phillips studies hunger as a pattern of relationships and practices that organizes access to food and profoundly shapes agrarian lives and livelihoods. Amid extreme inequality and unpredictability, rural people pursue subsistence by alternating betweenーand sometimes combiningーrights and reciprocity, a political form that she calls "subsistence citizenship." Phillips argues that studying subsistence is essential to understanding the persistence of global poverty, how people vote, and why development projects succeed or fail.

The Mansion’s Whispers: Gothic Erotica of Beastly Hunger and Sinful Pleasure The Red Room Chronicles, #1【電子書籍】[ Tessa Delwyn ]
|

The mansion waits at the edge of the fog, its walls heavy with whispers, its velvet corridors alive with sighs. Women enter and return glowing, marked, their bodies trembling with a hunger no husband can satisfy. Some call it a curse, others call it a blessing, but every voice trembles with the same secret: inside those crimson chambers dwells a presence more shadow than flesh, a beast whose touch remakes a woman's body, whose monstrous cock splits her open, whose hunger echoes in the very moans of the walls.

Selene has lived her life in silence beneath her husband's weight. His cold hands, his quick thrusts, his indifference leaving her hollow, aching, desperate. When the village women whisper of moaning walls and a shadowed lover who leaves them trembling with forbidden ecstasy, she cannot resist the pull. The mansion calls, velvet doors parting for her, leading her into a labyrinth of fire, shadow, and desire.

Inside she finds him: taller than any mortal man, eyes burning like coals, body carved of darkness and heat. His growl shakes the braziers, his claws tear through silk and bone alike, and his cockーthick, heavy, mercilessーfills her until her screams are swallowed by the moaning house itself. Each thrust is a violent benediction, each climax a shattering that binds her tighter to the mansion's eternal hunger. The walls remember every cry, every moan, every broken sob, immortalizing her ecstasy alongside the chorus of women who came before.

This is no gentle romance. It is gothic erotica drenched in shadow, haunted by desire, pulsing with monstrous lust. Forbidden hunger twists into worship, pain into ecstasy, flesh into possession. Selene's body becomes the vessel for a beast's relentless craving, her soul marked forever by the mansion's whispers.

For readers who crave dark erotica, gothic fantasy, monster romance, and forbidden pleasure, The Mansion's Whispers offers a descent into lust where terror and arousal entwine. Step into the crimson halls. Feel the walls moan. And discover why no woman ever leaves untouched.

The Hunger Angel A Novel【電子書籍】[ Herta M?ller ]
|

A masterful new novel from the winner of the 2009 Nobel Prize, hailed for depicting the "landscape of the dispossessed" with "the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose" (Nobel Prize Committee)
It was an icy morning in January 1945 when the patrol came for seventeen-year-old Leo Auberg to deport him to a camp in the Soviet Union. Leo would spend the next five years in a coke processing plant, shoveling coal, lugging bricks, mixing mortar, and battling the relentless calculus of hunger that governed the labor colony: one shovel load of coal is worth one gram of bread.
In her new novel, Nobel laureate Herta M?ller calls upon her unique combination of poetic intensity and dispassionate precision to conjure the distorted world of the labor camp in all its physical and moral absurdity. She has given Leo the language to express the inexpressible, as hunger sharpens his senses into an acuity that is both hallucinatory and profound. In scene after disorienting scene, the most ordinary objects accrue tender poignancy as they acquire new purposeーa gramophone box serves as a suitcase, a handkerchief becomes a talisman, an enormous piece of casing pipe functions as a lovers' trysting place. The heart is reduced to a pump, the breath mechanized to the rhythm of a swinging shovel, and coal, sand, and snow have a will of their own. Hunger becomes an insatiable angel who haunts the camp, but also a bare-knuckled sparring partner, delivering blows that keep Leo feeling the rawest connection to life.
M?ller has distilled Leo's struggle into words of breathtaking intensity that take us on a journey far beyond the Gulag and into the depths of one man's soul.

As it is, Cara's barely juggling her job, school, and volunteer work, and she's desperate to be chosen for a corporate internshipーsomething that would guarantee a two-year degree she could never afford without relying on the same loans that left her parents struggling.

At first, Cara is just worried about Shelby's odd behavior and unpredictable moods, then she discovers the body of a teenager, viciously attacked, in the very woods where Shelby vanished. |

In Johan Bojer's poignant novel, "The Great Hunger," readers are drawn into the harrowing world of rural Norway during the devastating 1860s famine. Bojer employs a rich, lyrical style, deftly capturing the emotional landscape of his characters as they navigate through despair, resilience, and the harsh realities of agricultural life. The narrative not only reflects the physical starvation inflicted by nature but also the psychological and cultural hunger that haunts the human spirit. Set against the backdrop of a changing Norway, the novel serves as both a social commentary and a testament to the enduring strength of human relationships amidst adversity. Johan Bojer was born in 1872 and grew up in a farming community deeply affected by economic and environmental challenges, which profoundly shaped his worldview. His background, coupled with a keen sense of social justice, informed his portrayal of characters who are representative of the struggles faced by ordinary Norwegians. A notable contemporary of Henrik Ibsen, Bojer's commitment to exploring themes of societal struggle and cultural identity is evident throughout his body of work. "The Great Hunger" is a compelling read for those interested in the intersection of history, literature, and human resilience. Bojer's vivid storytelling and rich character development will resonate with anyone seeking to understand the complexities of survival and the profound impact of nature on human lives. The Great Hunger【電子書籍】[ Steve Biancucci ]
|

In the spring of 1847, Patrick Byrne and Catherine Daly stood in the potato fields of County Clare, Ireland, and planned their future together. Within months, the Great Hunger would destroy everything they knew.

When the potato blight returns with devastating force, Patrickーdesperate to feed his starving familyーsteals grain from a landlord's stores. His capture and seven-year sentence of transportation to Van Diemen's Land tears him from Catherine just months after their hasty wedding. Sent to the brutal Port Arthur penal colony, Patrick endures systematic cruelty designed to break his spirit. Only the memory of Catherine keeps him human through the darkness.

Left behind in Ireland, Catherine watches the famine claim her mother, her sister, and nearly everyone she knows. As the parish empties through death and emigration, she makes an extraordinary decision: she will cross the world to find Patrick, no matter the cost.

Against all odds, Catherine survives the four-month voyage and arrives in Van Diemen's Land in 1848. But finding one man among thousands of convicts scattered across the colony proves nearly impossible. For four agonising years, she searchesーworking as a seamstress in Hobart Town, following rumours, refusing to give up hope.

Their reunion in 1852, after years of separation and suffering, is only the beginning. Patrick, scarred by Port Arthur but granted a ticket-of-leave, must rebuild himself. Together, they make the bold decision to start fresh in Victoria, claiming eighty acres of rough land near Port Fairy.

From 1852 to 1899, Patrick and Catherine transform wilderness into The Long Fieldsーa thriving farm and a legacy that will span generations. They endure drought, isolation, and the backbreaking labour of frontier life. They raise four children who will become doctors, teachers, farmers, and adventurers. They help build a community from scattered settlers of Irish, Scottish, Chinese, and English descent.

But THE GREAT HUNGER is more than a story of survival. It's an epic exploration of what love can endure, what ordinary people can achieve when they refuse to quit, and how suffering can be transformed into something beautiful. Through Patrick's struggle to overcome the trauma of Port Arthur, Catherine's courage in following her heart across the world, and their joint determination to build something lasting, the novel asks: What makes a life worth living? What makes sacrifice meaningful? How do we honour those who came before while building the future?

Spanning five decades and following the family into the 20th century, THE GREAT HUNGER weaves historical authenticity with intimate human drama. From the horrors of the Irish famine and the cruelty of the convict system to the hope of building a new life in colonial Australia, this is a story of resilience, redemption, and love that refuses to die.

At its heart, it's the story of two people who survived the impossibleーand in doing so, created a legacy that would flourish for generations. It's a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the power of love, and the truth that some promises are meant to be kept, no matter what stands in the way.

THE GREAT HUNGER Is of sweeping historical fiction in the tradition of Bryce Courtenay's The Potato Factory and Colleen McCullough's The Thorn Birdsーan epic journey from tragedy to triumph that will stay with readers long after the final page.

Reclaiming Humanity in Palestinian Hunger Strikes Revolutionary Subjectivity and Decolonizing the Body【電子書籍】[ Ashjan Ajour ]
|

2022 Winner of the Palestine Book Awards

Rooted in feminist ethnography and decolonial feminist theory, this book explores the subjectivity of Palestinian hunger strikers in Israeli prisons, as shaped by resistance. Ashjan Ajour examines how these prisoners use their bodies in anti-colonial resistance; what determines this mode of radical struggle; the meanings they ascribe to their actions; and how they constitute their subjectivity while undergoing extreme bodily pain and starvation. These hunger strikes, which embody decolonisation and liberation politics, frame the post-Oslo period in the wake of the decline of the national struggle against settler-colonialism and the fragmentation of the Palestinian movement. Providing narrative and analytical insights into embodied resistance and tracing the formation of revolutionary subjectivity, the book sheds light on the participants’ views of the hunger strike, as they move beyond customary understandings of the political into the realm of the ‘spiritualisation’ of struggle. Drawing on Foucault’s conception of the technologies of the self, Fanon’s writings on anti-colonial violence, and Badiou’s militant philosophy, Ajour problematises these concepts from the vantage point of the Palestinian hunger strike.

The Politics of Hunger The Global Food System【電子書籍】[ John W. Warnock ]
|

Originally published in 1987. This important and provocative book explains the persistence of hunger, poverty, and the lack of balanced development in many countries and the central role of agriculture in economic development. Most theories of agricultural development are based on the experiences of western Europe and the United States while the two models for successful "late development" have been Japan and the Soviet Union. This book surveys the evolution of agriculture under colonialism in Latin America, Africa, and Asia and concludes that this long period distorted the development prospects for these areas and retarded the production of food. Under strong state capitalist governments, a few underdeveloped countries have broken the colonial patterns of development. However, other post-revolutionary societies are having far less success because of economic blockades and outside military intervention.
While the primary focus of the book is on the short-run problems of inequality, the author examines the long-run ecological and resource constraints to a sustainable food system and raising the standard of living in the underdeveloped world.

Hunger is not caused by an inability to produce enough food for the population, but is instead a manifestation of federal agricultural policies that support the overproduction of commodity crops and neoliberal social policies that seek to lower the amount of benefits dispersed to those in need. This book focuses on how four different food-based community programs address both the physical sensation of hunger as well as the political and economic disempowerment that work against the ability of people experiencing food insecurity to mobilize as a political force. Confronting Hunger in the USA argues that most food programs do more to create community among their volunteers than among program participants and tend to reinforce neoliberal understandings of citizenship. Community food programs reach out to the most vulnerable members of society in caring and gentle ways and often use the language of alternative economies to articulate a different relationship between the individual and the state. However, the projects in this study act as individual pieces of the state's insufficient social safety net and are only beginning to articulate a new relationship between food and society.

Hunger and Work in a Savage Tribe A Functional Study of Nutrition Among the Southern Bantu【電子書籍】[ Audrey Richards ]
|

Hunger and Work in a Savage Tribe examines the cultural aspects of food and eating among the Southern Bantu, taking as its starting point the bold statement 'nutrition as a biological process is more fundamental than sex'. When it was first published in 1932, with a preface by Malinowski, it laid the groundwork for sociological theory of nutrition. Richards was also among the first anthropologists to establish women's lives and the social sphere as legitimate subjects for anthropological study.

Hunger - The Original Classic Edition【電子書籍】[ Hamsun Knut ]
|

Hunger by Knut Hamsun - The Original Classic Edition

Finally available, a high quality book of the original classic edition.

This is a new and freshly published edition of this culturally important work, which is now, at last, again available to you.

Enjoy this classic work today. These selected paragraphs distill the contents and give you a quick look inside:

From there his parents moved when he was only four to settle in the far northern district of Lofoden--that land of extremes, where the year, and not the day, is evenly divided between darkness and light; where winter is a long dreamless sleep, and summer a passionate dream without sleep; where land and sea meet and intermingle so gigantically that man is all but crushed between the two--or else raised to titanic measures by the spectacle of their struggle.

...But when Kareno, the irreconcilable rebel of At the Gates of the Kingdom, the heaven-storming truth-seeker of The Game of Life, and the acclaimed radical leader in the first acts of Sunset Glow, surrenders at last to the powers that be in order to gain a safe and sheltered harbor for his declining years, then another man of 29 stands ready to denounce him and to take up the rebel cry of youth to which he has become a traitor. Hamsuns ironical humor and whimsical manner of expression do more than the plot itself to knit the plays into an organic unit, and several of the characters are delightfully drawn, particularly the two women who play the greatest part in Karenos life: his wife Eline, and Teresita, who is one more of his many feminine embodiments of the passionate and changeable Northland nature.

...From 1897 to 1912 Hamsun produced a series of volumes that simply marked a further development of the tendencies shown in his first novels: Siesta, short stories, 1897; Victoria a novel with a charming love story that embodies the tenderest note in his production, 1898; In Wonderland, travelling sketches from the Caucasus, 1903; Brushwood, short stories, 1903; The Wild Choir, a collection of poems, 1904; Dreamers, a novel, 1904; Struggling Life, short stories and travelling sketches, 1905; Beneath the Autumn Star a novel, 1906; Benoni, and Rosa, two novels forming to some extent sequels to Pan, 1908; A Wanderer Plays with Muted Strings, a novel, 1909; and The Last Joy, a shapeless work, half novel and half mere uncoordinated reflections, 1912.

...I turned to a shop window and stopped in order to give him an opportunity of getting ahead, but when, after a lapse of some minutes, I again walked on there was the man still in front of me--he too had stood stock still,--without stopping to reflect I made three or four furious onward strides, caught him up, and slapped him on the shoulder.

|

A meticulously researched history on the development of American mathematics in the three decades following World War I

As the Roaring Twenties lurched into the Great Depression, to be followed by the scourge of Nazi Germany and World War II, American mathematicians pursued their research, positioned themselves collectively within American science, and rose to global mathematical hegemony. How did they do it? The New Era in American Mathematics, 1920?1950 explores the institutional, financial, social, and political forces that shaped and supported this community in the first half of the twentieth century. In doing so, Karen Hunger Parshall debunks the widely held view that American mathematics only thrived after European ?migr?s fled to the shores of the United States.

Drawing from extensive archival and primary-source research, Parshall uncovers the key players in American mathematics who worked together to effect change and she looks at their research output over the course of three decades. She highlights the educational, professional, philanthropic, and governmental entities that bolstered progress. And she uncovers the strategies implemented by American mathematicians in their quest for the advancement of knowledge. Throughout, she considers how geopolitical circumstances shifted the course of the discipline.

Examining how the American mathematical community asserted itself on the international stage, The New Era in American Mathematics, 1920?1950 shows the way one nation became the focal point for the field.

Emotional Ethics of The Hunger Games【電子書籍】[ Tarja Laine ]
|

Emotional Ethics of The Hunger Games expands the ‘ethical turn’ in Film Studies by analysing emotions as a source of ethical knowledge in The Hunger Games films. It argues that emotions, incorporated in the thematic and aesthetic organization of these films, reflect a crisis in moral standards. As such they cultivate ethical attitudes towards such phenomena as totalitarianism, the culture of reality television, and the society of spectacle. The focus of the argument is on cinematic aesthetics, which expresses emotions in a way that highlights their ethical significance, running the gamut from fear through guilt and shame, to love, anger and contempt. The central claim of the book is that these emotions are symptomatic of some moral conflict, which renders The Hunger Games franchise a meaningful commentary on the affective practice of cinematic ethics.

‘’The Hunger Games movies have become iconic symbols for resistance across the globe. Tarja Laine proposes that this is not caused by their status as exciting cinematic spectacles, but by their engaging our emotions. Laine uses The Hunger Games as key texts for understanding our world, demonstrating that ethics do not originate from rational considerations, far removed from those mucky things called emotions. But rather that emotions are at the core of cinematic ethics.”

ーWilliam Brown, Author of Supercinema: Film-Philosophy for the Digital Age

‘’In this elegantly written exploration of the relationship between aesthetics and emotion in The Hunger Gamestrilogy, Tarja Laine illuminates the power of film to embody ethical conflict. Deftly interweaving film-philosophy and close analysis, Laine traces how these films mobilise complex emotions, nuancing our thinking about cinema and the spectator. Laine’s book takes The Hunger Games films seriously, demonstrating with verve why they matter.”

ーCatherine Wheatley, Senior Lecturer in Film Studies, King’s College London, UK

''In this fresh, engaging, and insightful study of The Hunger Games film trilogy, Tarja Laine explores the crucial role that emotions play in appreciation of the ethical qualities of the movies. She forges productive dialogues between a range of film theory, scholarship on moral philosophy, and debates on ethics, as she performs a multi-layered investigation of the aesthetic qualities of the trilogy, the multiple emotions embodied in these qualities, and the philosophical-ethical insights that are in turn embedded in these emotions. The cinematic connection between emotions and ethics that emerges through Laine’s detailed textual analyses confronts us with complex moral dilemmas while enriching our aesthetic experience.''

ーSarah Cooper, Professor, Film Studies Department, King's College London, UK
