Heidegger, Philosophy, and Politics The Heidelberg Conference【電子書籍】[ Jacques Derrida ]

Three renowned philosophers discuss the work of Martin Heidegger, and the moral quandary of engaging with a major philosopher who was also a Nazi.

In February 1988, philosophers Jacques Derrida, Hans-Georg Gadamer, and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe came together in Heidelberg before a large audience to discuss the philosophical and political implications of Martin Heidegger's thought. Heidegger's involvement in Nazism has always been an unsettling stain on his legacy. But what is its real relation to his work in phenomenology or hermeneutics? What are the responsibilities of those who read, analyze, and elaborate this thought? And what is at stake should this important but compromised philosopher be completely dismissed?

The reflections presented by three of the most prominent of Heidegger's readers, spoken in French and transcribed here, were an attempt to approach these questions before a broad public while maintaining a nuanced view of the questions at issue. Ranging over two days and including exchanges with one another and with the audience, the discussions pursued by these major thinkers remain highly relevant today.

Also included are a forward by Jean-Luc Nancy and a preface by Reiner Wiehl.

BAMBARA Uncovering The Hidden Footsteps From the Pillar of Fire to the Rising Sun【電子書籍】[ Joseph Eidelberg ]

The book starts with a background story of the author which explains what led him to his strange life- long hobby of "collecting religions". It then continues by building a systematic foundation to his Exodus theory. It starts with a closely related descriptions of North African history, geography, climate, the Africans, Egypt, and its powerful Nile in ancient times. The author then tells the story of his experiences in Africa, which led him to start his investigation and come up with the theory that the Exodus was partially occurred in North Africa. The book supports the theory with rational proofs including military, engineering, leadership, and common-sense explanations to many mystical stories about the Exodus, including the 10 plaques, crossing the sea of reeds, the reasoning for moving west, the locations of mount Sinai and its volcano "pillar of fire", the Tombs of Lust, the snakes attack in the Valley of the Serpents, the Manna tree, the golden Calf, the construction of the large Ark of Covenant and more. In addition, the author supports his theory by identifying 20 locations, which are listed in the Bible through which the Israelites passed from Egypt to Canaan, that still exist in North Africa today. Finally, the author brings additional evidence in support of his theory which relate to the similarity of African languages, such as Bambara, to Hebrew as well as similarities of African religious traditions, customs, and rituals to the ancient Jewish ones. Thus, concluding that some of the Israelites left The Exodus journey and settled in Africa, such as the Bambara tribes. The second part of the book describes the author's search for the hidden footsteps of the Ten lost Tribes on Israel. It starts with an historical background of the life in Canaan after the Israelites arrived there from Egypt, and the misfortunate events which led to the expulsion of the Ten Tribes by the Assyrians. It also presents some known historical records of the Japanese people since the time they arrived in their islands including some personal adventurous experiences of the author along the route that they took from Assyria through Asia to Japan. The proof of the theory is greatly related to the author's discoveries of similarities between the Japanese mythological stories, customs, holidays, rituals and their parallel biblical Jewish stories, holidays, custom and traditions. In addition, it presents many linguistic similarities between Hebrew and Japanese including words, writing letters and symbols that support his theory that the Japanese and the ancient Ten Lost Tribes of Israel are strongly related. The book finishes with a dictionary that shows similarities in meaning and pronunciation of many Hebrew, Bambara and Japanese words that support the author's theories that their history is closely related.

Physically Active University Teaching Introduction to the Heidelberg Model of Physically Active Teaching【電子書籍】[ Robert Rupp ]

In this essential, the authors present an innovative teaching-learning concept that uses the potential of movement-activating approaches to make university teaching more motivating, more efficient for learning and more conducive to health. Based on current findings in health, work and learning research, the Heidelberg Model of Moving Teaching presents a proven approach that combines university teaching-learning processes with light (micro) movement - such as standing up or walking around - in a way that saves learning time and is close to the classroom. This gives students the opportunity to abandon the rigid sitting posture during teaching and to actively engage with the subject matter (through movement). The essential contains practice-stimulating recommendations and concrete examples of implementation for a moving design of university teaching.

The Heidelberg Catechism The Mercersburg Understanding of the German Reformed Tradition【電子書籍】[ John Williamson Nevin ]

This volume is a collection of essays on the Heidelberg Catechism by John Nevin, a principal representative of the Mercersburg Theology that was birthed in nineteenth-century Pennsylvania. It also contains a critical response by John Proudfit, a more traditionally scholastic Calvinist. In these essays Nevin argued that the Heidelberg Catechism is an essential irenic confessional document that encapsulates the Reformed tradition and also builds bridges to Lutheranism and Roman Catholicism. According to Nevin the use of the Catechism is vital for shaping the identity of Christians and overcoming the dangers of individualism and subjectivism. Nevin's enthusiasm for the Catechism was a function of his understanding of the Christian life as progressive growth in Christlikeness, the church as the nurturing body of Christ, and the sacraments as conduits of Christ's vivifying personhood. These convictions stood in sharp contrast to the non-catechetical sensibilities of most nineteenth-century American Protestants who emphasized the sufficiency of Scripture alone, the church as a gathered community of like-minded individuals, dramatic conversion experiences, and the direct presence of Christ to the individual soul.

Chasing Freedom Remembering the Sixties【電子書籍】[ PAUL HEIDELBERG ]

CHASING FREEDOM, REMEMBERING THE SIXTIES, by Marquis Whos Who in the World writer Paul Heidelberg, is a novel about life, art and music in San Francisco during The Roaring Sixties. The novel revolves around life at the San Francisco Art Institute, which the author attended for four years before earning a degree in painting and creative writing (Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead studied at the art institute, and Janis Joplin worked in the school cafeteria before attaining rock star status). The book, set in The Sixties, which the author considers to have been from about 1965-75, has a painter as female protagonist and a painter and poet as male protagonist. It includes poetry readings at the Coffee Gallery on Grant Avenue, where Janis Joplin had her first paying job as a singer, and incorporates poetry into prose. The book includes the authors Theory Of Relativity Of Ping-Pong Balls of people constantly meeting and parting he had formulated while living in Europe. Other characters who figure into the books progress and conclusion include a sculptor who graduated from art institute in the late 1960s who has an upbeat personality and often ends a sentence with laughter: ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. CHASING FREEDOM, REMEMBERING THE SIXTIES includes scenes from wild art exhibition openings, to free performances by such musicians as blues great Charlie Musselwhite (in a San Francisco bar) and Dr. John, who led a New Orleans-style musical parade up Columbus Avenue in North Beach. The book includes scenes in Morocco in 1971, and Essouira Peter, a Yale University graduate who had tuned in, turned on and dropped out, to Barbayanni in 1960s Greece. Barbayanni, Uncle John, lived in the village of Mallia, Crete and wore the black baggy pants, high black goatskin boots and other accoutrements of a proud Cretan the clothing that had been worn by the grandfather of the writer Nikos Kazantzakis. The great Cretan writer is also an important figure in the book. Another key figure is the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. As author Heidelberg writes in the beginning pages of CHASING FREEDOM, REMEMBERING THE SIXTIES, the book is not merely a remembrance of The Sixties, but it is also a remembrance of all times when artists and others have been Chasing Freedom, as Federico Garcia Lorca did in the 1920s and 1930s. The novel concludes at a great rock concert in San Francisco. (The price of the book includes a suitable-for-framing Fine Art Print, the cover illustration, created by using modern computer software to alter a photographic transparency taken at the San Francisco Art Institute during The Sixties.)

Yet grammatical theory has seen a major divide regarding not only the methods of data eliciting and the kinds of data evaluated, but also with respect to the interpretation of these data, including the very notions of explanation and prediction themselves.

The editors of the volume organized a conference bringing together adherents of two major strands of grammatical theory illustrating this clash, traditionally grouped under the labels of formalist and functionalist theories. This book includes five keynote lectures given by internationally renowned experts.
The controversial question and answer 80 of the Heidelberg Catechism, which condemns the “popish Mass,” seems to some a harsh statement in this document otherwise admired for its warm pastoral style and genial tone.
The Heidelberg Catechism is a Protestant confessional document taking the form of a series of questions and answers, for use in teaching Reformed Christian doctrine. It has been translated into many languages and is regarded as one of the most influential of the Reformed catechisms. The Catechism is divided into fifty-two sections, called "Lord's Days," which were designed to be taught on each of the 52 Sundays of the year. The Synod of Heidelberg approved the catechism in 1563. In the Netherlands, the Catechism was approved by the Synods of Wesel (1568), Emden (1571), Dort (1578), the Hague (1586), as well as the great Synod of Dort of 1618-1619, which adopted it as one of the Three Forms of Unity, together with the Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dort.
This is part of a three-volume final report of the renewed excavations at Ramat Ra?el by the Tel Aviv?Heidelberg Expedition (2005ー2010). It presents the finds from the Babylonian-Persian pit, one of the most dramatic find-spots at Ramat Ra?el. The pit yielded a rich assemblage of pottery vessels and yhwd, lion, and sixth-century “private” stamp impressions, including, for the first time, complete restored stamped jars, jars bearing two handles stamped with different yhwd impressions, and jars bearing both lion and “private” stamp impressions on their bodies. Residue analysis was conducted on many of the vessels excavated from the pit to analyze their contents, yielding surprising results. The finds contribute to our understanding of the pottery of the Babylonian and early Persian periods (6thー5th centuries BCE) and to the study of the development of the stamped-jar administration in the province of Yehud under Babylonian and Persian rule.

Also available from Eisenbrauns: Ramat Ra?el III: Final Publication of Aharoni'’s Excavations at Ramat Ra?el (1954, 1959?1962) by Oded Lipschits, Yuval Gadot, and Liora Freud; and Ramat Ra?el IV: The Renewed Excavations by the Tel Aviv?Heidelberg Expedition (2005?2010): Stratigraphy and Architecture, by Oded Lipschits, Mandred Oeming, and Yuval Gadot.

History and Genius of the Heidelberg Catechism【電子書籍】[ John Williamson Nevin ]

The HEIDELBERG CATECHISM; first appeared in the year 1563, and soon won for itself a sort of universal authority in the Church, that no similar system has since been able to supplant. Its relation to the Reformed Church was soon allowed to be parallel, in this respect, with that of the venerable Catechism of Luther to the Lutheran Church; a distinction not admitted before, in favor even of the Catechism of Geneva. Hence it is denominated at times the Reformed Catechism, as representing, by general acknowledgment, the faith of the entire communion, distinguished by the same title in the sixteenth century. It is much more indeed than a Catechism, in the ordinary sense; being so constructed as to serve, at the same time, the purpose of a full church Confession. It stands forth accordingly with special prominence, not only among the Catechisms, but among the regular Confessions also, of the period to which it belongs. In this view, it holds, we may say, the very highest distinction. If the question be asked, which among all the symbolical books that have appeared in the Reformed Church, has the best claim to be regarded in the light of an ?cumenical or general symbol; the answer must be given undoubtedly, that it is the Heidelberg Catechism.
Such we find to be, in fact, the clear judgment of history itself. Though formed originally for the use of a particular territory only, the Catechism proved to be a true and happy exposition of the faith of the Reformed Church in general; and in a short time accordingly, it came to be recognized and honored as such, all over Europe. Where it was not exalted formally to the rank of a symbolical book, it was at least invested with the highest credit, as a work embodying in the most approved form, the doctrines of the Church at large. The authority of the prince under whose direction it was prepared, was sufficient indeed to bring it into general use in the Church of the Palatinate; but this authority could have no force beyond these limits. Its favorable reception in other lands could be owing only to its own intrinsic worth, and the ready concurrence in its doctrine sand spirit, which it met with from the Reformed Church in every direction. It was received indeed with a sort of universal homage, as an ornament to the creed which it was felt so well to represent. Switzerland, France, Scotland and England, joined in testifying towards it their admiration and respect. It was translated for the use of schools and churches in Hungary. It became the basis of religious instruction, for the Reformed Church generally in Germany. In the Netherlands it was clothed with the highest authority, in being made to constitute, along with the Belgic Confession, the national rule of faith. Finally by the Synod of Dort, the general council of the entire Reformed Church in the beginning of the seventeenth century, it was formally acknowledged and sanctioned, as a fair and proper representation of the Reformed faith in all lands. It became thus in form, to a certain extent, the accredited standard of the Church as a whole.
In all this we see the true importance of the Heidelberg Catechism. The relation which it bears to the whole Reformed Church of the sixteenth century, is full of interest, and such as may well make it an object of special regard in all ages. No other Catechism or Confession comes down to us, under the same broad catholic character, or with equal claims, in the view now mentioned, to historical attention and respect.

Like a good book or movie, do you just want to know how it's all going to end?

Do you feel joy or anxiety at the thought of the foretold events described in the Bible's book of Revelation?

The book of Revelation is the only book that promises a blessing to its readers.

It has captured the minds and imaginations of millions of people. Like Eve, people want to know the future. Simply put, Revelation is the capstone of God's relationship with mankind, good and evil. In it, God shows His love and commitment to those that love and revere Him, by putting an end to evil forever. He also shows the necessity of His righteousness being upheld.

Since his education at Baptist Bible College, Author Larry Heidelberg has spent well over forty years studying and being intrigued by the messages found in the verses and detailed images of Revelation. In "...Promised Before the World Began;" Revelation Questions Answered, Heidelberg carefully and knowledgeably guides readers through the most common questions raised, the confusion, and the context of this most prophetic book of Scriptures. He argues that God wants our worship, not our confusion; this is why He promises a blessing. Through his studies, Heidelberg believes God has answered his most pressing questions regarding this text. If readers have felt overwhelmed or had the same questions, this book will bring both answers and peace of mind to all true believers.

The way of Salvation as seen through the Heidelberg Catechism Meditations Of The Heart【電子書籍】[ Cornelius VanKempen ]

Mr. Van Kempen is a man whom the Lord has revealed Himself in sovereign grace in Christ. We both
served the Lord’s church in consistory for several years, which also included our visiting many elderly
saints in their spiritual needs. We have been labeled “sidekicks” by those who find where one is, the
other is sure to be near.
Case speaks freely of his meditating upon the preciousness of Scripture and how sweet the Lord Jesus is
to him. From this meditation, Case began to commit his thoughts on paper. Several years ago, I strongly
suggested that Case collect these papers into a booklet of meditations. From a single booklet
came another until Case reached one booklet for each month of the year for a daily devotion for the
child of God.
This current book had its beginning as Case began meditating upon the Heidelberg Catechism and again
found its way into print. The entire Catechism is presented in 52 Lord’s Days in short, pithy thoughts, of
experiential salvation to the glory of God.
Rev. D. J.
