1000 Mythological Characters Briefly Described【電子書籍】[ Edward Sylvester Ellis ]

There are many expressions which, though simple in themselves, must forever remain beyond the grasp of human comprehension. Eternity, that which has neither end nor beginning, baffles the most profound human thought. It is impossible to think of a point beyond which there is absolutely nothing, or to imagine the passing of a million years without bringing us one day or one minute nearer to their close. Suppose that one could fix upon the terminal point, we would still fancy something beyond that, and then some period still more remote would present itself, and so on ad infinitum. The same insurmountable difficulty confronts us when we seek to imagine a First Cause. God was the beginning, and yet it seems to our finite minds, that something must have brought Him into existence, and we conclude that back again of that creating Power must have been another originating cause, and perhaps still another, and so on without limitation. And yet we know that there must have been a period when everything was void, or, in other words, when there was nothing. In the awful grandeur of that loneliness, desolation, and chaos, God we know, however, existed and called the universe into being. All that we, in our present finite condition, can ever comprehend of that stupendous birth is contained in the opening of the first chapter of Genesis. That is the story of the creation as told by God Himself to His chosen people, the Hebrews, they alone being selected from the nations then existing upon the earth to receive the wonderful revelation....

Composed in dactylic hexameter, the work reflects the grandeur of classical literature, echoing the themes of fate, duty, and piety amidst the backdrop of war and strife. In its exploration of Aeneas's trials'??from the fall of Troy to his tumultuous encounters in Carthage and his eventual arrival in Italy'??Virgil creates a rich tapestry of emotion and heroism, all set against the intricate political landscape of Augustan Rome, where the poet sought to promote unity and shared identity through a glorified past.
ATTENTION FICTION WRITERS:

If you plan on writing any kind of fiction story, this book is for you!

When you buy this book you'll learn:
- The classic 3-act structure that all blockbusters follow
- The difference between the known world and the special world of your story
- The 18 distinct stages of the hero's journey
- The main archetypes of the Monomyth
- Plus I'll provide real-life examples from modern-day stories that sell
- And each chapter ends with action steps that you can take today to make your story come alive

AND MUCH, MUCH MORE...

Below is an excerpt from the book:

As a fiction writer, the goal is to create a story that resonates with the audience. We all want to write something gripping that people will share with friends and family; a narrative that lasts with the reader for years to come. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. Many of us start out with a passion for storytelling. We love exploring new worlds and developing complex characters. So we begin to write. But at some point, every storyteller realizes that in order to become a professional, we must hone our natural talent into a skill. So, what do we do? We buy books on writing. There's a book out there for everything. Some teach plot, others character. There are books that explain how to write action, suspense, conflict, dialogue, setting, theme, etc...

But no matter how logical we structure our story, or how perfectly we construct our prose, the story doesn't seem to have that "X-factor."

Even well-known professionals face this problem. Think about how many times you've gone to the movies or picked up a book by a writer you follow, or a franchise you love, only to be completely let down. How many forgettable novels or films have you come across in your lifetime? Some written by reputable authors and screenwriters. Even though the action, mystery, or romance was great, the story still fell flat. The narrative lacked some mystical element that every great story seems to inherently possess.

This is the major problem every author, writer, poet, screenwriter, and storyteller face.

The Modern Monomyth series is aimed to teach writers from all walks of life how to fuel their stories with the power of myth. By utilizing mythological elements from the Monomyth (also known as the Hero's Journey), authors are able to connect with their audience on a deep psychological level.

This book provides a definition of the Monomyth and its early origins. It teaches the three-act structure as it pertains to the Hero's Journey and explains the difference between the known world and the special world of your story. You'll learn what really makes a character heroic, and how plot and character feed off of each other, creating both an inner and outer journey. We'll outline the 18 distinct stages of the hero's journey and briefly discuss the main archetypes of the Monomyth. For each stage, this book provides at least four modern examples from well-known stories. Each example will help you understand Hero's Journey, and help you identify the stages in your own book. Every chapter concludes with action steps, which you can immediately use on your story. These will help you infuse mythic power and life into the narrative. By the end of the book, you'll have a basic understanding of the Monomyth and a road map for your own story.

I'm sure you're going to love this book and write a great story. But don't take my word for it. Scroll up and buy your copy today!

|

"There are two grand stages of philosophy the mythologicーand the scientific. In the first, all phenomena are explained by analogies derived from subjective human experiences; in the latter, phenomena are explained as orderly successions of events.

In sublime egotism man first interprets the cosmos as an extension of himself; he classifies the phenomena of the outer world by their analogies with subjective phenomena; his measure of distance is his own pace, his measure of time his own sleep, for he says, "It is a thousand paces to the great rock," or, "It is a hundred sleeps to the great feast." Noises are voices, powers are hands, movements are made afoot. By subjective examination discovering in himself will and design, and by inductive reason discovering will and design in his fellow men and in animals, he extends the induction to all the cosmos, and there discovers in all things will and design. All phenomena are supposed to be the acts of someone, and that someone having will and purpose. In mythologic philosophy the phenomena of the outer physical world are supposed to be the acts of living, willing, designing personages. The simple are compared with and explained by the complex. In scientific philosophy, phenomena are supposed to be children of antecedent phenomena, and so far as science goes with its explanation they are thus interpreted. Man with the subjective phenomena gathered about him is studied from an objective point of view, and the phenomena of subjective life are relegated to the categories established in the classification of the phenomena of the outer world; thus the complex is studied by resolving it into its simple constituents..."

The Myth of Hiawatha and Other Oral Legends, Mythologic and Allegoric of the North American Indians (1856)【電子書籍】[ Henry R. Schoolcraft ]
|

Collection of Native American myths, first published in 1856. According to Wikipedia: "The indigenous peoples of the Americas are the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the Americas, their descendants, and many ethnic groups who identify with those peoples. They are often also referred to as Native Americans, First Nations, Amerigine, and by Christopher Columbus' geographical mistake Indians, modernly disambiguated as the American Indian race, American Indians, Amerindians, Amerinds, or Red Indians. According to the still-debated New World migration model, a migration of humans from Eurasia to the Americas took place via Beringia, a land bridge which formerly connected the two continents across what is now the Bering Strait. The most recent point at which this migration could have taken place is c. 12,000 years ago, with the earliest period remaining a matter of some unresolved contention.[1] These early Paleoamericans soon spread throughout the Americas, diversifying into many hundreds of culturally distinct nations and tribes.[2] According to the oral histories of many of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, they have been living there since their genesis, described by a wide range of traditional creation accounts. Application of the term "Indian" originated with Christopher Columbus, who thought that he had arrived in the East Indies, while seeking Asia. This has served to imagine a kind of racial or cultural unity for the aboriginal peoples of the Americas. Once created, the unified "Indian" was codified in law, religion, and politics. The unitary idea of "Indians" was not originally shared by indigenous peoples, but many over last two centuries have embraced the identity, however, there is growing resistance to it, especially in Canada."

A Mythological Approach to Exploring the Origins of Chinese Civilization【電子書籍】[ Shuxian Ye ]
|

Is the lion the symbol of China? Or should it be the dragon or the phoenix? This book makes a provocative interpretation of the Chinese ancient totems such as the bear and the owl. Taking a mythological approach, it explores the origin of Chinese civilization using the quadruple evidence method, which integrates ancient and unearthed literature, oral transmission, and archeological objects and graphs.

It testifies to the authenticity of unresolved ancient myths and legends from the origins of Chinese Jade Ware (6200BC-5400 BC) to the names of the Yellow Emperor (2698?2598 BC) and the legends from the Xia (2010BC-1600BC), Shang (1600BC-046BC), Zhou (1046BC-771BC), and Qin (221BC-206BC) Dynasties. The book lays the foundation for a reconstruction of Chinese Mythistory. With well over 200 photographs of historic artifacts, the book appeals to both researchers and general readers.

The "Prose Edda," composed by the Icelandic historian and poet Snorri Sturluson in the early 13th century, stands as a pivotal work in Norse literature. This compendium serves both as a manual for aspiring poets and a narrative of Norse mythology, intertwining the analysis of skaldic verse with a rich tapestry of mythological tales. Sturluson's clear prose, enriched with intricate allegories and historical context, solidifies the text as an essential resource for understanding the Old Norse poetic tradition and its cultural significance during the medieval period. Snorri Sturluson, born into a family of poets and chieftains, was deeply influenced by the oral storytelling traditions of Iceland and the political upheavals of his time. His engagement with the sagas and his scholarly pursuits led him to compile and interpret the myths surrounding deities such as Odin and Thor, preserving a substantial part of the Norse heritage that might have otherwise been lost. This background not only shaped his narrative style but also imbued the work with a sense of urgency in safeguarding a cultural legacy. For readers and scholars alike, the "Prose Edda" is a crucial text that encapsulates the richness of Norse mythology and its poetic forms.
