Bereits vor ?ber 100 Jahren entwickelte Henry L. Gantt ein erstes graphisches Planungs-instrument, wodurch die Terminierung ?bersichtlicher wurde. Jedoch weisen die sogenannten Gantt-Diagramme (benannt nach Henry Gantt) einige Schw?chen auf, wodurch sie f?r die heutigen komplexen Projekte weniger tauglich sind. In den 50er Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts wurden erstmals Verfahren der Netzplantechnik entwickelt. Eine der ersten Anwendungen der Netzplantechnik lag in Bauprojekten des Milit?rs (U-Boote).
