They Called Me a Lioness A Palestinian Girl's Fight for Freedom【電子書籍】[ Ahed Tamimi ]

|

**A Palestinian activist jailed at sixteen after a confrontation with Israeli soldiers illuminates the daily struggles of life under occupation in this moving, deeply personal memoir.

“I cannot even begin to convey the clarity, the intensity, the power, the photographic storytelling of They Called Me a Lioness.”ーIbram X. Kendi, internationally bestselling author of How to Be an Antiracist**

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Kirkus Reviews

“What would you do if you grew up seeing your home repeatedly raided? Your parents arrested? Your mother shot? Your uncle killed? Try, for just a moment, to imagine that this was your life. How would you want the world to react?”

Ahed Tamimi is a world-renowned Palestinian activist, born and raised in the small West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, which became a center of the resistance to Israeli occupation when an illegal, Jewish-only settlement blocked off its community spring. Tamimi came of age participating in nonviolent demonstrations against this action and the occupation at large. Her global renown reached an apex in December 2017, when, at sixteen years old, she was filmed slapping an Israeli soldier who refused to leave her front yard. The video went viral, and Tamimi was arrested.

But this is not just a story of activism or imprisonment. It is the human-scale story of an occupation that has riveted the world and shaped global politics, from a girl who grew up in the middle of it . Tamimi’s father was born in 1967, the year that Israel began its occupation of the West Bank and he grew up immersed in the resistance movement. One of Tamimi’s earliest memories is visiting him in prison, poking her toddler fingers through the fence to touch his hand. She herself would spend her seventeenth birthday behind bars. Living through this greatest test and heightened attacks on her village, Tamimi felt her resolve only deepen, in tension with her attempts to live the normal life of a daughter, sibling, friend, and student.

An essential addition to an important conversation, They Called Me a Lioness shows us what is at stake in this struggle and offers a fresh vision for resistance. With their unflinching, riveting storytelling, Ahed Tamimi and Dena Takruri shine a light on the humanity not just in occupied Palestine but also in the unsung lives of people struggling for freedom around the world.

Conversational Arabic Quick and Easy Palestinian Arabic; the Arabic Dialect of Palestine and Israel【電子書籍】[ Yatir Nitzany ]
|

THIS BOOK DOESN'T CONTAIN ANY ARABIC LETTERS! ALL ARABIC WORDS IN THIS BOOK WERE WRITTEN IN ENGLISH-TRANSLITERATION! FOR ASSISTANCE WITH THE PRONUNCIATION PLEASE PURCHASE THE AUDIO VERSION ON ITUNES.
Have you always wanted to learn how to speak the Palestinian Arabic Dialect but simply didn’t have the time?
Well if so, then, look no further. You can hold in your hands one of the most advanced and revolutionary method that was ever designed for quickly becoming conversational in a language. In creating this time-saving program, master linguist Yatir Nitzany spent years examining the twenty-seven most common languages in the world and distilling from them the three hundred and fifty words that are most likely to be used in real conversations. These three hundred and fifty words were chosen in such a way that they were structurally interrelated and, when combined, form sentences. Through various other discoveries about how real conversations workーdiscoveries that are detailed further in this bookーNitzany created the necessary tools for linking these words together in a specific way so that you may become rapidly and almost effortlessly conversant*ーnow.*
If your desire is to learn complicated grammatical rules or to speak perfectly proper and precise Arabic, this book is not for you. However, if you need to actually hold a conversation while on a trip to the Holy Land, to impress that certain someone, or to be able to speak with your grandfather or grandmother as soon as possible, then the Nitzany Method is what you have been looking for. This book is recommended for those who already have some prior knowledge of the pronunciation of Arabic accents (such as the Arabic accents: ayin, ghayn, ha, and khaf). For those of you who do not, this book does indeed provide some great, in-depth techniques on the pronunciation and recognition of these accents, that you will encounter throughout the program. These techniques have proven extremely beneficial for beginner students who were previously unfamiliar with these accent pronunciations. But keep in mind this isn’t a pronunciation book. The Palestinian Arabic varies slightly throughout different areas of Israel and the Palestinian territories. The dialect of this book is the central West Bank (Ramallah/Bethlehem area) dialect.
This method is designed for fluency in a foreign language, while communicating in the first person present tense. Nitzany believes that what’s most important is actually being able to understand and be understood by another human being right away. Therefore, unlike other courses, all words in this program are taught in English transliteration, without having to learn the complex alphabet. More formalized training in grammar rules, etc., can come later.
This is one of the several, in a series of instructional language guides, the Nitzany Method’s revolutionary approach is the only one in the world that uses its unique language technology to actually enable you to speak and understand native speakers in the shortest amount of time possible. No more depending on volumes of books of fundamental, beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, all with hundreds of pages in order to learn a language. With Conversational Arabic Quick and Easy, all you need are fifty-three pages.
Learn Palestinian Arabic today, not tomorrow, and get started now!

Palestinian Refugees in International Law【電子書籍】[ Francesca P. Albanese ]
|

The Palestinian refugee question, resulting from the events surrounding the birth of the state of Israel seventy years ago, remains one of the largest and most protracted refugee crises of the post-WWII era. Numbering over six million in the Middle East alone, Palestinian refugees' status varies considerably according to the state or territory 'hosting' them, the UN agency assisting them and political circumstances surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict these refugees are naturally associated with. Despite being foundational to both the experience of the Palestinian refugees and the resolution of their plight, international law is often side-lined in political discussions concerning their fate. This compelling new book, building on the seminal contribution of the first edition (1998), offers a clear and comprehensive analysis of various areas of international law (including refugee law, human rights law, humanitarian law, the law relating to stateless persons, principles related to internally displaced persons, as well as notions of international criminal law), and probes their relevance to the provision of international protection for Palestinian refugees and their quest for durable solutions.

The War of Return How Western Indulgence of the Palestinian Dream Has Obstructed the Path to Peace【電子書籍】[ Adi Schwartz ]
|

Two prominent Israeli liberals argue that for the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians to end with peace, Palestinians must come to terms with the fact that there will be no "right of return."

In 1948, seven hundred thousand Palestinians were forced out of their homes by the first Arab-Israeli War. More than seventy years later, most of their houses are long gone, but millions of their descendants are still registered as refugees, with many living in refugee camps. This groupーunlike countless others that were displaced in the aftermath of World War II and other conflictsーhas remained unsettled, demanding to settle in the state of Israel. Their belief in a "right of return" is one of the largest obstacles to successful diplomacy and lasting peace in the region.

In The War of Return, Adi Schwartz and Einat Wilfーboth liberal Israelis supportive of a two-state solutionーreveal the origins of the idea of a right of return, and explain how UNRWA - the very agency charged with finding a solution for the refugees - gave in to Palestinian, Arab and international political pressure to create a permanent “refugee” problem. They argue that this Palestinian demand for a “right of return” has no legal or moral basis and make an impassioned plea for the US, the UN, and the EU to recognize this fact, for the good of Israelis and Palestinians alike.

A runaway bestseller in Israel, the first English translation of The War of Return is certain to spark lively debate throughout America and abroad.

The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Very Short Introduction A Very Short Introduction【電子書籍】[ Martin Bunton ]
|

The conflict between Palestine and Israel is one of the most highly publicized and bitter struggles in history. In this accessible and stimulating Very Short Introduction, Martin Bunton clearly explains the history of the problem, reducing it to its very essence - a modern territorial contest between two nations and one geographical territory. Adopting a fresh and original approach, each section covers a twenty-year span, to highlight the historical complexity of the conflict throughout successive decades. Each chapter starts with an examination of the relationships among people and events that marked particular years as historical moments in the evolution of the conflict, including the 1897 Basle Congress; the 1917 Balfour Declaration and British occupation of Palestine; and the 1947 UN Partition Plan and the war for Palestine. Providing a clear and fair exploration of the main issues, Bunton explores not only the historical basis of the conflict, but also looks at how and why partition has been so difficult and how efforts to restore peace continue today.

Architecture of Resistance Cultivating Moments of Possibility within the Palestinian/Israeli Conflict【電子書籍】[ Yara Sharif ]
|

Architecture of Resistance investigates the relationship between architecture, politics and power, and how these factors interplay in light of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. It takes Palestine as the key ground of spatial exploration, looking at the spaces between people, boundary lines, documents and maps in a search for the meaning of architecture of resistance. Stemming from the need for an alternative discourse that can nourish the Palestinian spaces of imagination, the author reinterprets the land from a new perspective, by stripping it of the dominant power of lines to expose the hidden dynamic topography born out of everyday Palestine. It applies a hybrid approach of research through design and visual documentary, through text, illustrations, mapping techniques and collages, to capture the absent local narrative as an essential component of spatial investigation.

UNRWA and Palestinian Refugees From Relief and Works to Human Development【

Exploring the evolution of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), this book fills a lacuna in literature on the agency.

UNRWA and Palestinian Refugees employs recent fieldwork in order to analyse challenges in programmes and service delivery, protection, camp governance, community participation, and camp improvement and reconstruction. The chapters examine the way UNRWA is adapting to a changing social, political and economic context, mostly within urban settings ? a paradigmatic shift from understanding the Agency’s role as simply a provider of relief and services to one comprehensively supporting the human development of Palestinian refugees.

Examining the refugee debate using new disciplines and research frameworks, this collection aims to emphasise the centrality of the Palestinian refugee issue for Middle East peace-making and to contribute a better understanding of a unique agency. The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict What Everyone Needs to Know?【電子書籍】[ Dov Waxman ]
|

No conflict in the world has lasted as long, generated as many news headlines, or incited as much controversy as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Yet, despite, or perhaps because of, the degree of international attention it receives, the conflict is still widely misunderstood. While Israelis and Palestinians and their respective supporters trade accusations, many outside observers remain confused by the conflict's complexity and perplexed by the passion it arouses. The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: What Everyone Needs to Know? offers an even-handed and judicious guide to the world's most intractable dispute. Writing in an engaging, jargon-free Q&A format, Dov Waxman provides clear and concise answers to common questions, from the most basic to the most contentious. Covering the conflict from its nineteenth-century origins to the latest developments of the twenty-first century, this book explains the key events, examines the core issues, and presents the competing claims and narratives of both sides. Readers will learn what the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is all about, how it has evolved over time, and why it continues to defy diplomatic efforts at a resolution.

The Religion of Ancient Palestine in the Second Millenium B.C Exploring Ancient Palestinian Religious Beliefs and Rituals in the Second Millennium B.C.【電子書籍】[ Stanley Arthur Cook ]
|

In "The Religion of Ancient Palestine in the Second Millennium B.C.", Stanley Arthur Cook offers an exhaustive and nuanced analysis of the spiritual practices and beliefs that defined ancient Palestinian societies during a formative period. Employing a synthesis of archaeological evidence and literary sources, Cook meticulously charts the evolution of religious thought within the region, juxtaposing the polytheistic worship of Canaanite deities against the burgeoning monotheistic tendencies that would later influence Judeo-Christian traditions. His prose is both erudite and accessible, weaving intricate theological concepts into a cohesive narrative that reflects the broader historical and cultural milieu of the ancient Near East. Stanley Arthur Cook, a notable biblical scholar and archaeologist, was deeply influenced by his academic background in theology and his fieldwork in archaeological sites throughout the Middle East. His insights into the interplay between religion and culture underscore a lifetime of scholarship dedicated to understanding the ancient texts and contexts that have shaped modern beliefs. Cook's rigorous analytical approach and profound respect for ancient cultures illuminate the complexities of faith in a historically significant era that is often oversimplified in contemporary discussions. This book is a must-read for scholars, students, and anyone with a keen interest in the ancient world'??s spiritual landscapes. Cook's detailed exploration enriches our understanding of early religious practices and their enduring impacts, offering fresh perspectives that stimulate further inquiry into the development of religious thought in one of history's pivotal regions.

Israel in the Post Oslo Era Prospects for Conflict and Reconciliation with the Palestinians【電子書籍】[ As'ad Ghanem ]
|

Israel in the Post Oslo Era examines the official Israeli stands and policies towards the Palestinian problem from the beginning of the twenty-first century. The book argues that Israel is gradually withdrawing from the commitment of a two-state solution and from the general framework of the peace process that started in 1993 with the signing of the Oslo accord.

The main factor behind Israel’s shift regarding the conflict and its resolution is related to the steady and gradual rise of the Israeli right since the 2009 general elections, to reach the "dominant block" status. These fundamental changes are the result of profound social transformations, such as the functional significance of marginal groups. The unprecedented growth of the right disputes basic questions, addressed in this book, including the official Israeli approach towards the Palestinian problem in general, particularly the two-state solution.

The book examines these developments and the overall Israeli withdrawal from the peace process and its commitment to a two-sate solution. Israel in the Post Oslo Era is an invaluable resource for students and researchers interested in Arab-Israeli conflict resolutions, Middle East and Israeli Politics.

Women throughout the world have always played their part in struggles against colonialism, imperialism and other forms of oppression. However, there are few books on Arab political prisoners, fewer still on the Palestinians who have been detained in their thousands for their political activism and resistance.

Nahla Abdo's Captive Revolution seeks to break the silence on Palestinian women political detainees, providing a vital contribution to research on women, revolutions, national liberation and anti-colonial resistance. Based on stories of the women themselves, as well as her own experiences as a former political prisoner, Abdo draws on a wealth of oral history and primary research in order to analyse their anti-colonial struggle, their agency and their appalling treatment as political detainees.

Making crucial comparisons with the experiences of female political detainees in other conflicts, and emphasising the vital role Palestinian political culture and memorialisation of the 'Nakba' have had on their resilience and resistance, Captive Revolution is a rich and revealing addition to our knowledge of this little-studied phenomenon.

Classics Transformed in Jewish, Israeli, and Palestinian Receptions【電子書籍】[ Vered Lev Kenaan ]
|

Classics Transformed in Jewish, Israeli, and Palestinian Receptions invites the reader to view classical antiquity through the writings of poets, translators, and scholars emerging from modern Jewish diasporas, Mandatory Palestine, and the State of Israel who engaged with Greek and Roman literary precedents. Whereas these voices have up to now been mostly studied independently of one another as separate fields of research, this volume brings some of these distinct voices, who nevertheless share a connection to Greco-Roman antiquity, into conversation with one another. Taking its cue from the crisis of humanism following the Holocaust, the chapters take as their themes the destruction of home, displacement, and different forms of wandering and homecomings, drawing connections to acts of translation and transmission of the classics to form a picture of cultural and textual states of alterity. The volume shows that Jewish, Israeli, and Palestinian responses to the classics are entangled and even complementary despite their different trajectories. The chapters included here focus particularly on critical moments in Jewish and Palestinian existence when the reception of classical humanism is closely linked to issues of survival. On offer here is a historically grounded investigation into the ways Jews, Israelis, and Palestinians have used classical antiquity and classical philology to validate their identity in a rapidly changing society.

U.S. Policy in the Israeli-Palestinian Dispute: Peace Agreement Resulting in an Independent Palestinian State Increasingly Unlikely, History of the Peace Process, Influence of Hard-Line Factions【電子書籍】[ Progressive Management ]
|

This late 2017 report has been professionally converted for accurate flowing-text e-book format reproduction. The purpose of this thesis is to examine why a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority that would result in an independent Palestinian state appears increasingly unlikely. The thesis explores the history of the peace process with particular emphasis on the role played by the United States in attempting to fashion an agreement that guaranteed an independent Palestinian state. The results of the thesis suggest a historical path dependency and the power of spoilers in the peace process. Also important has been the nature of U.S. support for Israel, the lack of a truly representative Palestinian body, and the increased influence of more hard-line political parties within Israel and Palestine in recent decades. All these factors have shaped the process and made the prospect of an independent Palestinian state increasingly unlikely. The Linguistic Landscape in Israel through Palestinian Eyes Observations, Critique, and Demands for Change【電子書籍】[ Rawia Hayik ]

This book uses a sociolinguistic framework to explore how language serves as a marker of national identity in conflict zones, focusing on the dystopian representation of Arabic as a minority language in Israel through the perspectives of Israeli Palestinian students. Using a documentary photography research tool, PhotoVoice, minoritized college students from Northern Israel were invited to document and reflect on the signage in their area. Content analysis of students’ reflections revealed not only a problematic linguistic reality in which the presence of Arabic was limited and inaccurate, but also their experience of the space as local inhabitants. The book chapters shed light on their profound perceptions and aspirations as passers-by toward the (mis)representation of their native language in the country. The contribution of the book lies in demonstrating the potential of the innovative tool PhotoVoice in developing awareness of the explicit and implicit messages delivered through linguistic landscapes. It encourages action for achieving utopian, more inclusive linguistic realities where minority languages are appropriately represented.

My Voice Is My Weapon Music, Nationalism, and the Poetics of Palestinian Resistance【電子書籍】[ David A. McDonald ]
|

In My Voice Is My Weapon, David A. McDonald rethinks the conventional history of the Palestinian crisis through an ethnographic analysis of music and musicians, protest songs, and popular culture. Charting a historical narrative that stretches from the late-Ottoman period through the end of the second Palestinian intifada, McDonald examines the shifting politics of music in its capacity to both reflect and shape fundamental aspects of national identity. Drawing case studies from Palestinian communities in Israel, in exile, and under occupation, McDonald grapples with the theoretical and methodological challenges of tracing "resistance" in the popular imagination, attempting to reveal the nuanced ways in which Palestinians have confronted and opposed the traumas of foreign occupation. The first of its kind, this book offers an in-depth ethnomusicological analysis of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, contributing a performative perspective to the larger scholarly conversation about one of the world's most contested humanitarian issues.

Political Marketing and Public Diplomacy by Pro-Israel and Pro-Palestinian Advocacy Groups【電子書籍】[ Andrew Lim ]
|

This book looks at how both advocacy groups in New Zealand and Australia use political marketing to conduct advocacy and support Israeli and Palestinian public diplomacy and nation branding. The focus lies on their marketing orientation, segmentation/ targeting/ positioning (STP), and internal marketing practices. The theoretical framework will draw upon several political marketing frameworks and concepts including the product/sales/market-oriented framework, the STP process, and Petitt's internal stakeholder marketing approaches. The book examines four case studies: (1) the Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa (PSNA), (2) the Israel Institute of New Zealand (IINZ), (3) the Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC), and (4) the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN). To ensure balance and comparison, four groups representing both the pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian camps in NZ and Australia were selected. Other criteria included their broad scope of activity, approachability and accessibility, as well as connections to state actors through advocacy, public diplomacy, and nation branding.

What is the difference between Judaism and Zionism? The impact of religion on political decision-making in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict【電子書籍】[ Ruth Esther Schwarz ]
|

Until the present day, wide-spread confusion regarding the meaning of the terms Judaism and Zionism persists both inside and outside Israel. The popular opinion is that the terms are synonyms. But this implies the false assumption that anti-Zionism equals anti-Semitism. As Ruth Esther Schwarz shows the Israeli right-wing regime uses this dangerous shortcut in order to justify its ongoing colonization of Palestine. Based on the work of Israel's New Historians, Schwarz's book aims at deconstructing the mainstream mindset concerning Judaism and Zionism. Therefore, she analyses the nature of the principal ideological streams and their complex interconnections before and after 1948. She focusses on orthodox Judaism, religious Zionism, Jewish radical messianism, Jewish fundamentalism, the ideological change of traditional Zionism and, last but not least, the role of Christian Zionism in the United States. Keywords: - Judaism; - Zionism; - Israeli-Palestinian conflict; - religious Zionism; - nationalism; - fundamentalism

Jordan's Palestinian Challenge, 1948-1983: A Political History【電子書籍】[ Clinton Bailey ]
|

Two-thirds of all Palestinians are Jordanian citizens living on the East and West Banks; a sizable number also reside and work in various parts of the Arabian Peninsula. With the questions of ultimate sovereignty over the West Bank and the Gaza Strip attracting much international attention since Israel's occupation of these areas in 1967, the solution to the Palestinian question is often seen as entirely dependent on Palestinian relations with Israel, despite the fact that only one-third of the Palestinians live in the occupied territories. In contrast, Palestinian relations with the Arab states, including Jordan, are generally portrayed as a sideshow to the main theater of conflict. This book examines the thirty-five-year struggle between the Hashimite monarchy and the forces of Palestinian nationalism over the future identity, and perhaps location, of those two-thirds of the Palestinian people who have been Jordanian subjects since 1948. Dr. Bailey bases his study on "open" sources: reports appearing in the Arab, Israeli, and world press, in addition to academic studies and published memoirs of persons involved in the events described, providing an accurate portrayal of the significant developments in Jordan's Palestinian challenge over the past thirty-five years.

Islam and the Politics of Meaning in Palestinian Nationalism (RLE Politics of Islam)【
|

The intention of this book is to explore the relationship between an ideological idiom and the changing social movement in which it operates. The basic question is that of what roles an Islamic symbol complex played in different phases of the Palestinian nationalist movement, and what were the socio-economic factors which help to explain, and are themselves partially explained by, the appearance of these roles. Islam was ideologically ‘appropriate’ at different stages in the development of the movement, and this study examines in what way, and why.

First published in 1982.

GIVING UP IS NOT AN OPTION Memoirs of a Palestinian American【電子書籍】[ Hani Q. Khoury ]

In his memoirs, Professor Hani Q. Khoury narrates the highlights of the complexities of his life and the events which have nurtured it. He was sentenced to an electric wheelchair at the age of 18 due to a progressive physical disorder. His story, like many others, is filled with challenges, setbacks, dreams, and, most importantly, hope. The juxtaposition of two very different cultural settings, Israeli-occupied Palestine, and the United States of America, will provide the reader with a deeper understanding of the meaning and implications of liberty and self-determination, both individually and collectively.

He tells the story of his departure from the long-disputed land in Palestine to a new world that has become for him a place of new beginnings and friendships, unforeseen challenges, and personal and professional accomplishments.

Accompanied by his parents, he began his journey to freedom on August 12, 1983 when the plane from Amman, Jordan landed at JFK International Airport in New York City. His new life began that day in a country that is known for its freedoms and the rule of law. In this new world and with the help of new and advanced technologies, he was able to leave the past for a new and promising future. In his newly adopted country, Hani was able to obtain his higher education, form a family, gain employment as a professor of mathematics at the university level, and become a productive member of society. In this landscape of dreams that we call America, and previously in his homeland in Palestine, he has met many wonderful people from different faiths and backgrounds. Their unparalleled humanity and support have made it possible for him to live out the truth that "when and where there is a will, there is a way."

Zionism, Palestinian Nationalism and the Law 1939-1948【電子書籍】[ Steven E. Zipperstein ]
|

During the last decade of the British Mandate for Palestine (1939?1948), Arabs and Jews used the law as a resource to gain leverage against each other and to influence international opinion. The parties invoked "transformational legal framing" to portray the essentially political-religious conflict as a legal dispute involving claims of justice, injustice, and victimisation, and giving rise to legal/equitable remedies.

Employing this form of narrative and framing in multiple "trials" during the first 15 years of the Mandate, the parties continued the practice during the last and most crucial decade of the Mandate. The term "trial" provides an appropriate typology for understanding the adversarial proceedings during those years in which judges, lawyers, witnesses, cross-examination, and legal argumentation played a key role in the conflict. The four trials between 1939 and 1947 produced three different outcomes: the one-state solution in favour of the Palestinian Arabs, the no-state solution, and the two-state solution embodied in the United Nations November 1947 partition resolution, culminating in Israel's independence in May 1948.

This study analyses the role of the law during the last decade of the British Mandate for Palestine, making an essential contribution to the literature on lawfare, framing and narrative, and the Arab-Israeli Conflict.

Palestinian Refugees after 1948 The Failure of International Diplomacy【電子書籍】[ Marte Heian-Engdal ]
|

After more than seventy years, the Palestinian refugee problem remains unsolved. But if a deal could have been reached involving the repatriation of Palestinian refugees, it was in the early years of the Arab-Israeli conflict. So why didn't this happen?

This book is the first comprehensive study of the international community's earliest efforts to solve the Palestinian refugee problem. Based on a wide range of international primary sources from Israeli, US, UK and UN archives, the book investigates the major proposals between 1948 and 1968 and explains why these failed. It shows that the main actors involved ? the Arab states, Israel, the US and the UN ? agreed on very little when it came to the Palestinian refugees and therefore never got seriously engaged in finding a solution. This new analysis highlights how the international community gradually moved from viewing the Palestinian refugee problem as a political issue to looking at it as a humanitarian one. It examines the impact of this development and the changes that took place in this formative period of the Arab-Israeli conflict, as well as the limited influence US policy makers had over Israel.
