The Image of the River in Latin/o American Literature Written in the Water【電子書籍】[ Renata ?g?ez ]

Although fictionalーand often fantasticーrepresentations of nature have been a distinguishing feature of Latin American literature for centuries, ecocriticism, understood as the study of literature as it relates to depictions of the natural world, environmental issues, and the ways in which human beings interact and identify with their natural surroundings, did not emerge as a field of scholarly interest in the region until the end of the twentieth century. This volume employs an ecocritical lens in order to explore and question the use of the river imagery in Latino and Latin American literature from the colonial period to our modern world, creating a space in which to examine both its literal and figurative meanings, associated as much with processes of a personal nature as with those of the collective experience in the region. The slow, meandering streams of nostalgia, the raging currents of conflict or the stagnant waters of social decay are just a few of the ways in which the river has become an important symbol and inspiration to many of the region’s writers. This book offers a diverse collection of writings that, through a trans-historical and trans-geographical perspective, allows us, from the vantage point of the twenty-first century, to reflect on the rich and dynamic image of the river and, by extension, on the vital context of Latin/o America, its people and societies.

Bronze medal winner of the International Latino Book Awards Best Poetry Anthology

A Scar Where Goodbyes Are Written is a bilingual anthology of poetry written by fifteen Venezuelan poets who are currently residing in Chile. Edited and translated by David M. Brunson, the volume encompasses the work of young poets coming from many different circumstances. Some have already published several books, while others have just begun their careers as writers. The vast majority of the original Spanish texts appeared in books, anthologies, and magazines across Chile, Venezuela, and elsewhere in the Hispanosphere.

In recent years, more than six million people have fled Venezuela in one of the world’s largest mass migrations, stemming in part from an ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the country’s backsliding into authoritarianism, brutal political repression, corruption, food and medical shortages, violent crime, hyperinflation, and the mismanagement of Venezuela’s natural and financial resources, first by Hugo Ch?vez and presently by Nicol?s Maduro.

Begun during Brunson’s travels in Chile amid the 2019?2020 protest movement, this dual-language collection aims to elevate the individual voices of each migrant poet, to connect them with new readers, and to enrich the body of literature available in English.

Memories in clear obscure Written and translated into English by Farideh Mahdavi Damghani【電子書籍】[ Farideh Mahdavi Damghani ]

This heartfelt and occasionally humorous memoir recounts the author’s childhood memories in Tehran, Iran, in 1972. It reflects on her close bond with her father, Professor Ahmad Mahdavi Damghaniーa distinguished scholar of Arab and Persian literature and mysticism, who emigrated to the United States and became a professor at Harvard University after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Alongside her best friend, family, and other kind-hearted acquaintances, she recalls a time of joyful innocence and magical discoveries about human nature. Her father’s deep erudition and love for classical European literature nurtured her inner world, introducing her to the great characters of Hugo, Tolstoy, the Bront?s, Dickens, and Dostoevsky. He gently guided a dreamy, bright, and timid girl growing up in a modernizing Iran, encouraging her to embrace culture and art in all forms without imposing religious constraints. Through his actions and choices, he taught her lifelong moral lessons infused with warmhearted Persian affection and the good humor emblematic of the Iranian people. This all unfolded during Iran’s golden eraーa time of cultural awakening, hope, and gradual modernization before the Revolution altered the country’s course. This rich cultural and intellectual environment shaped Farideh Mahdavi Damghani into the renowned translator she is todayーfluent in four languages and responsible for translating over 650 classical, modern, and spiritual works, including the complete works of Dante Alighieri, Milton’s *Paradise Lost* , the complete comicals of Shakesoeare and Osvar Wilde, along with important other literary works by Gide, Stendhal, Jorge Luis borges, Umberto Eco, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Giacomo Leopardi, Petrarch, and even the Analects of Confucius into Farsiーbridging cultures and voices across the world.

These Are Written Toward a Cruciform Theology of Scripture【電子書籍】[ Peter Nafzger ]

Today there is an increasing awareness and availability of the sacred writings of the world's religions. This raises important questions about the Christian Scriptures. What is distinctive about these writings? What role do they play in the Christian story? What makes these particular texts "holy"? The modern "battle for the Bible," with its narrow focus on proving (or disproving) biblical inerrancy, has made it difficult to provide sufficient answers. This work of constructive theology rethinks the concepts, categories, and assumptions that have dominated the modern approach to the Bible by returning to the biblical narrative and its focus on the cross. It identifies the Scriptures as the written form of the living and active Word of God, which was spoken by the prophets and apostles and became human in the person of Jesus Christ. This conception of the Bible provides Christians in this postmodern world with a solid ground from which to address pressing questions about canon, authority, and interpretation of their Scriptures.

Bloodbound Oath: Our Hearts Were Written in BloodーOur Fate in the Silence After Hearts of the Eclipse Series, #3【電子書籍】[ Lucian Reef ]

The city no longer kneels to storms. Bowls are back on shelves, mirrors have learned to be furniture, and dawn arrives with work instead of omens. Yet the old oath still breathes in the cracksーan inheritance of red rain, whispering that love can be measured in sacrifice.

Elion, the scarred king the world keeps forgetting, wakes to a morning with no crown and no shadow of his legendーonly callused hands and a stubborn belief that consent is stronger than prophecy. Across the fasting light walks Serath, returned without a shadow and tired of being anyone's miracle. Once enemies, always inconvenient, they have become something rarer: partners who will trade spectacle for survival, poetry for policy, and knives for vows that hold.

But the bloodbound oath won't die quietly. A new church tries to dress absence in sleeves and call it a prince; mirrors flirt with becoming throats; and the seam over the valley twitches, eager to remember how to break. If the city is to remain free, the vow that once demanded blood must be rewritten in daylightーwitnessed by wind, bread, and honest work.

Standing between altar and door is Lys, Aven's heir, the "hollow" girl who turns worship into valves and windows. She will not be holy when policy will do. With vinegar and chalk she audits every miracle, refusing any magic that cannot survive a morning market. To seal the future she loves, she must risk her one unspent thingーuntil consent becomes the grammar of every spell and love is the only witness that counts.

As rain reaches for its old cruelty, Elion and Serath climb to the ridge and choose the harder salvation: a vow made with light, not blood. Every touch is a hazard; every choice has a receipt. Yet in the hush after the storm, petals fall where blood once stained, and the city learns the most dangerous miracle of allーtwo men allowed to be ordinary together until the world admits it has been saved.

Bloodbound Oath is a darkly tender romantasy of shadow and shine, enemies-to-lovers tempered into partners, and a kingdom rebuilt by consent. Expect knife-sharp banter, aching restraint, and kisses that close wounds instead of opening them. Expect a crown that learns to be a tool, a city that behaves when asked correctly, and an oath that refuses to spend another life to prove its power.

Perfect for readers who want:

MM slow burn with ferocious payoff

Blood magic subverted into vow-magic

Cathedral ambience, copper & vinegar aesthetic

Consent-as-magic, kiss-as-spell

Found family: a winged cynic, a ruthless clerk, a girl who says "no" in the correct register

When the legends are pared down to what deserves to remain, only one truth is left to pass from rooftop to market stallーtheir promise, kept in daylight:

the vow of two hearts.

This book seeks to remedy that by drawing together some of the most respected biblical scholars to bring their expertise to bear on various aspects of Johannine studies that are contained within the Gospel, Epistles, and the Apocalypse. Your Names Are Written in Heaven【電子書籍】[ Davide Perillo ]

In the 1990s, a young Ugandan Catholic nurse named Rose Busingye began working in the slums of Kampala with the many women there suffering from HIV/AIDS. Many of them were refugees from civil war in the north, having been raped, beaten, forced to kill in order not to be killed, to steal children in the hope of one day returning to see their own children.

Even though Rose brought food and medicine to them, she often discovered that the women had not taken their medications, so sunk were they in despair and a lack of self-worth. She was on the verge of abandoning everything, when she received an invitation to stay for some time in Italy. It was from Fr. Luigi Giussani, the Italian priest who had founded Communion and Liberation, the movement to which Rose also belongs. After those months spent in Milan, she returned to Uganda with a renewed desire to share with these women what she herself had experienced: the infinite value of her life. Of every life.

Soon things began to change. Out of that change grew Meeting Point International, an organization led by many of the same women Rose had ministered to. In time, new efforts arose, including schools and orphanagesーprojects that continue to embody Pope Francis’s injunction to “go to the margins.” In Your Names Are Written in Heaven, veteran Italian journalist Davide Perillo tells the inspiring story of Rose Busingye and “her women” with clarity, compassion, and insight.
