What does a new coworker, a new best friend and a special late summer bash have in common? That’s what Sue and her husband, Lou, are about to find out.

A new woman was hired at Sue’s work and placed on her team for a new project for the company. Sue and Teri hit it off from the start and after a short amount of time, they had become best friends. They had so much in common…both were married to wonderful men, both had the same likes and dislikes in food, clothes and people.

They would shop together, get their hair and nails done together…everything that could be done together, they did. The only thing they had not done together was hang out with their husbands but that was rectified when they had their first double date. Lou and Teri’s husband, Ben, hit it off right away, just like Sue and Teri did. They both had the same likes and dislikes, even their favorite football team was the same.

Sue was pleased that the husbands became good friends because Lou was basically a loner and it made her happy knowing that Lou had someone that had the same interests as him. This was made abundantly clear a few months later.

Teri and Ben invited Sue and Lou to a special late summer bash in September at a state run campgrounds and park. Teri and Ben told them very little about the bash, only to say that it was an annual event with four other couples, it was very private and they had special events planned. They would not discuss what the special events were but reassured Sue and Lou that they were guaranteed to love them and would want to come back year after year.

Upon reaching the campgrounds, Sue and Lou soon realized that the six couples were the only ones occupying the campgrounds. When asked about this, they were told the couples bought out the whole place for that one night and all employees of the campgrounds were paid to take the night off.

The first thing they noticed were six huge tents that were luxury designed. After introductions were made to the other couples and the huge feast was consumed, Sue and Lou were finally shown what the special events really were and needless to say, it was a very interesting and satisfying night to remember.

Silhouettes in the Garden【電子書籍】[ T. O. Stallings ]

They call New Orleans the Big Easy. The moniker comes, in part, from the French saying laissez les bons temps rouler. Let the good times roll. The name is a misnomer. There is nothing easy about living and growing up in New Orleanss Eighth Ward. My mother told me God created the world as a garden. A peek and a promise of what is to be seen in heaven. She also taught me that God allowed the devil access to the garden. Access and permission to tempt earths mortals. My mother told me we should all try to hide from the devil. To do so she believed we should pass through life as much a shadow, a silhouette to the devils eye, as possible. That is a difficult task for the pious. It is even more difficult in New Orleans, a city made famous by its history and traditions. Traditions and history that include temptations, vices, corruption, Mardi Gras, and voodoo. My name is Jehan Henri. This is the story of my silhouette in the garden we call earth.

Russian Silhouettes: More Stories of Russian Life【電子書籍】[ Anton Tchekoff ]

“Volodia is here!” cried some one in the courtyard. “Voloditchka is here!” shrieked Natalia, rushing into the dining-room. The whole family ran to the window, for they had been expecting their Volodia for hours. At the front porch stood a wide posting sleigh with its troika of white horses wreathed in dense clouds of steam. The sleigh was empty because Volodia was already standing in the front entry untying his hood with red, frostbitten fingers. His schoolboy’s uniform, his overcoat, his cap, his goloshes, and the hair on his temples were all silvery with frost, and from his head to his feet he exhaled such a wholesome atmosphere of cold that one shivered to be near him. His mother and aunt rushed to kiss and embrace him. Natalia fell down at his feet and began pulling off his goloshes. His sisters shrieked, doors creaked and banged on every side, and his father came running into the hall in his shirt-sleeves waving a pair of scissors and crying in alarm: “Is anything the matter? We expected you yesterday. Did you have a good journey? For heaven’s sake, give him a chance to kiss his own father!” “Bow, wow, wow!” barked the great black dog, My Lord, in a deep voice, banging the walls and furniture with his tail. All these noises went to make up one great, joyous clamour that lasted several minutes. When the first burst of joy had subsided the family noticed that, beside Volodia, there was still another small person in the hall. He was wrapped in scarfs and shawls and hoods and was standing motionless in the shadow cast by a huge fox-skin coat. “Volodia, who is that?” whispered Volodia’s mother. “Good gracious!” Volodia exclaimed recollecting himself. “Let me present my friend Tchetchevitsin. I have brought him from school to stay with us.” “We are delighted to see you! Make yourself at home!” cried the father gaily. “Excuse my not having a coat on! Allow me!ーNatalia, help Mr. Tcherepitsin to take off his things! For heaven’s sake, take that dog away! This noise is too awful!” A few minutes later Volodia and his friend were sitting in the dining-room drinking tea, dazed by their noisy reception and still rosy with cold. The wintry rays of the sun, piercing the frost and snow on the window-panes, trembled over the samovar and bathed themselves in the slop-basin. The room was warm, and the boys felt heat and cold jostling one another in their bodies, neither wanting to concede its place to the other. “Well, Christmas will soon be here!” cried Volodia’s father, rolling a cigarette. “Has it seemed long since your mother cried as she saw you off last summer? Time flies, my son! Old age comes before one has time to heave a sigh. Mr. Tchibisoff, do help yourself! We don’t stand on ceremony here!” Volodia’s three sisters, Katia, Sonia, and Masha, the oldest of whom was eleven, sat around the table with their eyes fixed on their new acquaintance. Tchetchevitsin was the same age and size as Volodia, but he was neither plump nor fair like him. He was swarthy and thin and his face was covered with freckles. His hair was bristly, his eyes were small, and his lips were thick; in a word, he was very plain, and, had it not been for his schoolboy’s uniform, he might have been taken for the son of a cook. He was taciturn and morose, and he never once smiled. The girls immediately decided that he must be a very clever and learned person. He seemed to be meditating something, and was so busy with his own thoughts that he started if he were asked a question and asked to have it repeated.

Sabotage and Silhouettes has a deeper meaning that just two words thrown together to form a creative alliteration. Each word holds a significant meaning in the title of this book.

Sabotage is the deliberate damage, destruction, or obstruction of something. In this instance, it relates to my life, and possibly even parts of yours. The traumas that we go through, lead us to specific actions and emotions. When we feed into those emotions, we start to create chaos, sometimes intentionally and sometimes, unintentionally. Either way, we begin to self-sabotage. Whether we sabotage potential or existing relationships, important friendships, or even our own growth. We start to get in our own way. Many times, after the many losses I've gone through, I found myself sabotaging the very things that were sent to heal me.

Silhouettes are dark shapes or outlines of someone or something against a lighter background. Our dark parts. Especially in times of anguish or hardship. Through traumas, everything goes dark. The silhouettes represent the dark parts of our lives, our mentality, our soul. Even with light all around, a silhouette will remain dark, and the details are impossible to make out. This is exactly how I felt through all my dark times. I wasn't myself for months, maybe even a year or so, but the silhouettes hid the details in the dark while the light was still shining all around me. It made it hard for people to 'see' me. And even harder for me to 'show' myself to those around me. I shut down. And everything became dark.

Silhouettes of the Soul Meditations on Fashion, Religion, and Subjectivity【

What is the relationship between the soul, or inner life, and what we wear in the making of identity and belief? What bearing do religious and political belonging, respectability, and resistance have on the way in which we dress? Why have more traditional religious practices been so prescriptive about body adornment? Historically, fashionable dress and religion have been positioned as polar opposites. Silhouettes of the Soul brings them together, placing them in conversation with each other. By moving beyond traditional, social scientific, and historical analysis of religious attire and adornment the book presents a variety of disciplinary approaches from across regional, social, and religious locations.

Contentious and challenging, as well as academically rigorous, the book's diverse range of contributors - from fashion and religious studies scholars, to designers, activists, monastics, and journalists - explore the relationship between religion and fashion, extending the meanings and possibilities of both dress and spirituality. Combining interviews and personal stories with more traditional theoretical analysis, Silhouettes of the Soul offers new ways of looking at the relationship between religion, personal convictions, and self-expression - our sense of self and our sense of fashion.

Silhouettes is a collection of reflective and personal poetry covering three decades. As the title indicates, the poems provide some information about an author who is otherwise a private man, although he has a high public profile in South Africa. The poems contained in the book range from those dealing with universal and everyday matters like love and its various stages, to those dealing with uniquely South African matters when that country was undergoing a transition from apartheid to a democracy. They were written in different parts of the world, including the USA, the United Kingdom and, of course, South Africa.

Shadows and Silhouettes【電子書籍】[ Sharday Cage ]

“What happens in the home, stays in the home,” a familiar saying Sharday heard from her mother over and over again as a child and even still to this day. Writing her personal memoirs and most intimate secrets was almost like cheating to her as she confided in paper as a way to let go of the shame and embarrassment she felt for a long time by holding onto the past. Sharday discusses the growing pains of a child to a young adult such as living with a single parent, family members who suffered mental
illnesses, and her own loves lost. Sharday for the first time really opens up her own personal life in a very vulnerable and intimate way where every poem is her experience and her story. This collection of prose is a standout because she is able to take the painful and troubling memories and experiences and communicate it to her readers in a beautiful way. The beauty existing in the pain is the revelation that she is free.

American Silhouettes A Tale of Anguish Volume I【電子書籍】[ Christian Beres Calmejane ]

This is Volume I of two volumes.

American Silhouettes is primarily a study in human character in its dealing with the adversity of life. The setting is America during the last quarter of the twentieth century. More specifically it focuses on the struggle of two generations of a small African American family whose destiny encounters more than its share of horrific tribulations. It is a window on life, love, happiness, suffering, and death of the members of this small vulnerable resilient family from the South, that moves to Washington, D.C. for a better life, only to find a very short interlude of happiness, followed by a deep plunge into another cycle of trauma and despair; not death though, that would be too easy; and when death finally does come, it is a liberation of the body and soul. The saga continues with the cycle of misfortune repeating itself in a new age, a new generation with the same finality as if their destiny had been wickedly predefined. From Bridgeville SC to Washington DC, and from Rome to Dakar, their saga brings to light the evil and virtuousness of man in its most natural occurrence, as a part of daily life. The story brings together various individuals of different and sometimes opposite background and describes either the passions of their encounters or the clashes resulting from their conflicts. It analyses the most wonderful passions of love, beauty and happiness, and juxtaposes the horrible ugliness of hate and abuse. It incorporates the duty and responsibility of man within the context of our society and dwells into the aberrations of its marginal sector. It is an interweaved matrix of emotional extremes. It demonstrates that evil has no color, no race, no religion, and that it transcends the social fabric of our society.

Shadows and Silhouettes Reflections on Life's Adventures【電子書籍】[ Delores Wardell ]

Forced to stay home during the world pandemic in 2020, Delores Wardell turned from writing novels to using the time to reflect on the people she'd met and incidents stemming from her work as a clinical psychologist as well as her world travels. She realized that our lives are intertwined in curious ways and that seemingly mundane events and chance meetings can have a deeper influence than expected.

This collage of life events reflects shadows of places and silhouettes of people who touched her life in some way: imperfect professionals, scarred yet hopeful children in the juvenile court system, tense encounters with local authorities in foreign countries, a harrowing solo flight in a rented plane, and even a few ghost stories and other adventures.

Her life's journey affirms that through our shared stories, we may discover our commonality.
