Ragged Spiritual Disciplines for the Spiritually Exhausted【電子書籍】[ Gretchen Ronnevik ]

When we mistake spiritual disciplines for to-dos, time slots on our schedule, or Instagram-able moments, we miss the benefits of Christ's continual and constant work for us. In Ragged, Gretchen Ronnevik aims to reclaim spiritual disciplines as good gifts given by our good Father instead of heavy burdens of performance carried by the Christian.

Only when we recognize our failures to maintain God's commands do we also realize the benefit of our dependence on his promises. Gretchen uses this distinction on law and gospel, presented throughout Scripture, to guide readers through spiritual disciplines including prayer, meditation, Scripture reading, and discipleship among others.

Despite our best efforts, the good news is that spiritual disciplines have less to do with what we bring before God and more about who Christ is for us, not only as the author but also as the perfector of our faith.

These include Near-Death Experiences, mystical experiences, spiritual energy or kundalini awakenings, diverse psychic experiences, and inspired creativity.

Touched by the Light is a synthesis of forty years of Dr. Kason's research on STEs and their profound after-effects on body, mind, and spirit. The force of love, Embrace all colours, Young and old, Rich or poor; It is beautiful.(Title Poem). This is Worrels third publication of poetry. In his previous two works, Worth Contemplating and Thoughtful Reflections, he focused broadly on the love of God, toward us and how it is, or should be emulated by children of God, whose lives reflect the attributes of the God they serve. Hedivulgedhisobservationofconsequencesforthelackofloveaswellasthepleasantrewardsorbenefitsthatarederivedfromactivelysharingloveeven(asGodcommands)withyourenemyorsomeonethatishardtolove.Thispublication, The Force of Love, is described in the paragraph above which is the title poem. In This publication, Worrel addresses more circumstantially, the injustice, prejudice, blind sightedness or ignorance; and painful consequences of the absences of love in our life situations. He also declared the bold hope which all of us can have in the assurance of Gods unconditional love especially when facing challenges and uncertainties. Finally, as far as humanity is concerned, Worrel broadly distinguishes the dearest of all expressed love: The love of a mother. This privileged expression is widely recognized and honoured in this collection of poetry. An encouraging look into the exploration of love as it is expressed this time in a raw, candid and personal revelation.

Research on Alcoholics Anonymous and Spirituality in Addiction Recovery The Twelve-Step Program Model Spiritually Oriented Recovery Twelve-Step Membership Effectiveness and Outcome Research【

It was once taken for granted that peer-assisted groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous had no “real” value in recovery from addiction. More recently, evidence-based medicine is recognizing a spiritual component in healingーespecially when it comes to addiction. The newest edition of Recent Developments in Alcoholism reflects this change by focusing on the 12-step model of recovery as well as mindfulness meditation and other spiritually oriented activity. More than thirty contributors bring together historical background, research findings, and clinical wisdom to analyze the compatibility of professional treatment and nonprofessional support, day-to-day concepts of relapse prevention, the value of community building in recovery, and much more.

Among the topics covered: (1) How and why 12-step groups work. (2) The impact of the spiritual on mainstream treatment. (3) The impact of AA on other nonprofessional recovery programs. (4) AA outcomes for special populations. (5) Facilitating involvement in 12-step programs. (6) Methods for measuring religiousness and spirituality in alcohol research.

Whether one is referring clients to 12-step programs or seeking to better understand the process, this is a unique resource for clinicians and social workers. Developmental psychologists, too, will find Volume 18ーResearch on Alcoholics Anonymous and Spirituality in Addiction Recovery a worthy successor to the series.

The Grace and Duty of Being Spiritually Minded【電子書籍】[ John Owen ]

John Owen (1616 ? 24 August 1683) was an English Nonconformist church leader, theologian, and academic administrator at the University of Oxford. Owen was educated at Queen's College, Oxford, where he studied classics and theology and was ordained. Because of the "high-church" innovations introduced by Archbishop William Laud, Owen left the university to be a chaplain to the family of a noble lord. His first parish was at Fordham in Essex, to which he went while the nation was involved in civil war.

Oliver Cromwell liked Owen and took him as his chaplain on his expeditions both to Ireland and Scotland from 1649-1651. As a result, Owen's fame was at its height from 1651 to 1660, during which he played a prominent part in the religious, political, and academic life of England. Shortly after the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660, he moved to London, where he was active in preaching and writing until his death. He declined invitations to the ministry in Boston (1663) and the presidency of Harvard (1670) and chided New England Congregationalists for intolerance.-Print ed.

Depression and the Soul A Guide to Spiritually Integrated Treatment【電子書籍】[ John R. Peteet ]

In Depression and the Soul, John Peteet proves the old adage that the best physician is also a philosopher. He considers how to approach the problem of depression within a larger context, and reviews current concepts of successful living relative to the heart (emotion and volition), the mind (cognition and coping), and the soul (the self in relation to transcendent reality). Each chapter goes on to further explore the relationship between depression and the context of a patient’s entire life. This is done through consideration of how the existential struggles of depressed individuals engage their spiritual lives, by reviewing current empirical literature on depression and spirituality, comparing the perspectives of various spiritual traditions or world views, and summarizing ways that spirituality and depression interact.

Thinking Spiritually in Small Groups The Practice of Mystical Reflection【電子書籍】[ Dann Wigner ]

Mystical experiences are happening every day, yet--as amazing as the experiences can be--it is often difficult to integrate these experiences into the rest of life. In light of this difficulty, I have created mystical reflection as a simple method for sharing one's own mystical experiences in a group setting and listening to the experiences of others in a non-judgmental way. The theological principle at work here is that if God speaks, then everyone can benefit from it. Mystical reflection takes this principle seriously and offers a method of application for integrating the spiritual insights into each person's spirituality.

Spiritually-Engaged Knowledge The Attentive Heart【電子書籍】[ Jennifer Crawford ]

In a supposedly ’global age,’ which not everyone accepts, the late Dr Jennifer Crawford has brought together a range of disciplines in her creation of a unified, sensitive ’way of knowing’ for the global era. Drawing upon her academic and lived experience in philosophy, environmental science, social work and feminism, together with a deep spiritual commitment, Jennifer Crawford has deftly woven together complex ideas in her reconceptualisation of global justice. Spiritually-Engaged Knowledge: The Attentive Heart is framed within the author’s troubling encounters in India recounted in the Prologue and Epilogue. These transformative experiences inspired her multi-disciplinary exploration of justice, which took her beyond the boundaries of Western epistemology. Locating the global, the author defines what it is to be a member of a global community in which cross-cultural encounters bring forth the possibility of new genre of knowledge. Crawford situates her argument within contemporary philiosohpical contexts, drawing upon postmodern discourse, globalisation theory and the realisation of shared horizon for all human knowledge, which offers up a potential for ’knowing globally’. Crawford takes the reader through feminist theory, the ethic of care, the craft of ’othering’, surrender to the ’other’ and to our relationship with the earth which, she argues, can be reconfigured into an ethically-based way of knowing. Drawing on a range of belief systems, including Australian Aboriginal spirituality, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, metaphysics and Western philosophy, Crawford rebuilds an inclusive, compassionate, redefinition of care for the new millennium, which she calls spiritually-engaged knowledge.

Perennial Wisdom for the Spiritually Independent Sacred TeachingsーAnnotated & Explained【電子書籍】[ Rabbi Rami Shapiro ]

The spiritual teachings of many faith traditions can help you step beyond the limits of any one tradition to the reality that can't be named.

The fastest growing spiritual movement in the United States today is that of the religiously unaffiliated. These spiritual seekers make up 20 percent of the adult American population; they are the spiritual equivalent of political independents. Refusing to limit themselves to one religion or another, these seekers without borders are open to wisdom wherever it can be found.

This is a "bible" for this vast and growing social movement. It weaves sacred texts and teachings from the world’s major religionsーChristianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and moreーinto a coherent exploration of the five core questions at the heart of every religion’s search:

? Who am I? ? Where did I come from? ? Where am I going? ? How shall I live? ? Why?

It couples these sacred teachings with modern commentary designed to help readers use these texts in their daily lives. It also provides the basics of spiritual mentor Eknath Easwaran’s Passage Meditation to help you internalize the texts that articulate your deepest insights and values.

Your divine life is as individual as your fingerprints: your spiritual path is unique.

Spirituality isn’t always found in organised religion, temples, or gurus. It doesn’t need to be outsourced. Your divine life lies within, all you need to do is listen to your inner voice!

Spiritually Loose shows how one woman replaced soul-destroying expectations and obligations with connection, meaning and possibilities.

Susan’s journey included raves in Ibiza, jazz bars in New York; lectures on quantum physics in Italy, philosophy classes in Australia; traditional hula dancing in Hawaii and qualifying as a Kundalini yoga teacher in Spain. Instead of finding answers, she found rules. Instead of joy, she found judgement. However, once she began looking inward, she tuned into her inner voice of love, acceptance, and joy.

Tuning into your inner voice is an antidote for emptiness, regret and disappointment. It’s a powerful reminder that it’s ok to be spiritual and loose, humble and confident, reverent and cheeky, patient and intolerant, brave and vulnerable, deep and superficial all at once. F**K God? Spiritually Tired, Abandoned, Discouraged, and the Effort Doesn’T Seem Worth It?【電子書籍】[ Anthony Melvin ]

While growing up, Anthony has seen and had many conversations and encounters with angels, spirits, and with God. As a kid, while drowning, he had an angel appear to him underwater and comforted him. The spirit of his mothers deceased friend helped him when he was injured after falling off his bike. As a lost kid at the Sears mall, his deceased grandmother manifested herself to help him. His best friend who died in a car accident visited him in the middle of the night to let him know that he was okay in the spirit realm. Anthony is a former drug dealer, car thief and has slept with hundreds of women. He was a nonbeliever and ignorant to the Bible, faith, and Jesus. He continuously cursed God and threw many f-bombs at Jesus. He even went out of his way to critique and mock other believers. Even though he witnessed many supernatural occurrences and miracles happening in and around his life, he never associated those events or experiences with God. Then one day, God put him in a position where he would have no choice but to cry out to Him. This powerful book is the story of one mans journey with God and the unseen spiritual realm that surrounds us daily.

Planting a Church Without Losing Your Soul Nine Questions for the Spiritually Formed Pastor【電子書籍】[ Tim Morey ]

Christianity Today Book Award

What does it take to be a church planter or other ministry entrepreneur? Most leaders start out with passion, a sense of calling, and a focus on building ministry skills. Such things might get some results, but they are not enough to sustain a healthy ministryーor a healthy life. Beyond the vocational capacities every church planter needs, there's a range of capabilities more difficult to measure but even more essential: what veteran church planter Tim Morey calls spiritual competencies.

Morey provides here a practical guide to spiritual formation geared to the unique needs of church planters. He helps readers answer the questions, What are the spiritual capabilities that I as a church planter need to develop? How might I lean into the work Jesus is doing in these vital areas? Spiritual competencies have to do not just with behaviors but also with the motivations, agendas, and scripts that drive behaviors. Morey explores how church planters can become people who

invest in their own physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual health

accept limits and share responsibilities

can be trusted with power

are able to stay resilient and grow through difficulties

can minister without being noticed

find a sustainable pace that helps them avoid burnout

The health of a church or any ministry organization is directly linked to the health of its leaders. Church planters may be used to improvising, but when it comes to their spiritual lives, they can't afford to just wing it. Featuring real-life stories from leaders, suggested practices, and discussion questions in each chapter, this book will equip individuals and teams (and those who coach them) to commit to an intentional plan for spiritual formationーfor the good of their churches, their relationships, and their own lives as disciples of Jesus.

When One Religion Isn't Enough The Lives of Spiritually Fluid People【電子書籍】[ Duane R. Bidwell ]

An exploration into the lives of people who embrace two or more religious traditions, and what this growing community tells us about change in our society

Named a best book of 2018 by Library Journal

In the United States, we often assume religious and spiritual identity are pure, static, and singular. But some people regularly cross religious boundaries. These “spiritually fluid” people celebrate complex religious bonds, and in the process they blur social categories, evoke prejudice, and complicate religious communities. Their presence sparks questions: How and why do people become spiritually fluid? Are they just confused or unable to commit? How do we make sense of them?

When One Religion Isn’t Enough explores the lives of spiritually fluid people, revealing that while some chose multiple religious belonging, many more inherit it. For many North Americans, the complicated legacies of colonialism are part of their family story, and they may consider themselves both Christian and Hindu, or Buddhist, or Yoruban, or one of the many other religions native to colonized lands.

For some Asian Americans, singular religious identity may seem an alien concept, as many East Asian nations freely mix Buddhist, Confucian, Taoist, and other traditions. Some African American Christians are consciously seeking to reconnect with ancestral spiritualities. And still other people are born into religiously mixed families. Jewish-Christian intermarriage led the way in the US, but religious diversity here is only increasing: almost four in ten Americans (39 percent) who have married since 2010 have a spouse who is in a different religious group.

Through in-depth conversations with spiritually fluid people, renowned scholar Duane Bidwell explores how people come to claim and be claimed by multiple religious traditions, how spiritually fluid people engage radically opposed truth claims, and what this growing population tells us about change within our communities.
