Feed-in tariffs in the European Union Renewable energy policy, the internal electricity market and economic expertise【電子書籍】[ B?atrice Cointe ]

This book is a sociological account of the historical trajectory of feed-in tariffs (FITs) as an instrument for the promotion of renewable energy in Europe. Chapters analyse the emergence and transformations of feed-in tariffs as part of the policy arsenal developed to encourage the creation of markets for RES-E in Europe. The authors explore evolving conceptions of renewable energy policy at the intersection between environmental objectives, technological change and the ambition to liberalise the internal electricity market. They draw conclusions on the relationships between markets and policy-making as it is instituted in the European Union, and on the interplay between the implementation of a European vision on energy and national politics. Distinctive in both its approach and its methods the books aim is not to discuss the design of feed-in tariffs and their evolution, nor is it to assess their efficiency or fairness. Instead, the authors seek to understand what makes feed-in tariffs what they are, and how this has changed over time.

New Age Ark High Seas Flotilla of Ships Employs Refugees, Avoids Tariffs and Foils Pirates【電子書籍】[ Jason O’Neil ]

In the preceding novel, Cyberclipper, a prince of Dubai, Yousif Latif, masterminded a perfect crime. He outfitted three three-hundred-foot megayachts with supercomputers to crack the encryption codes of two banks and a casino. He netted over six hundred million dollars and left the police with a cold case. In this novel, the prince creates five magayachts as factory ships to train refugees around the globe with 3-D printing skills saleable for global employment. These new age arks remain offshore, thus avoiding tariffs and taxes while manufacturing parts used in revolutionary new vehicles called turbopods or T-pods. These vehicles carry a red box, which is an antigravity device enabling them to serve as an automobile, helicopter, and/or airplane. The refugees sign up for a three-month training course and nine months at sea, after which they return to their sponsoring country to become taxpaying employees for at least two years. It’s a win-win scenario for the individual, his family, the country, and of course, the prince who nets over nine hundred million dollars. Thieves attempt to steal red boxes and also attack an ark to get both the parts and employees in Indiana Jones?like episodes. In the boldest move of his life, the prince employs his trusted business partnersーMatt Flynn, the turbopod inventor, and Foster York, the Aussie who builds the arks and the Airbus company of France to create an aquaclipper. This novel craft is a combination of a jumbo jet and cruise liner to provide the next generation of port-to-port transportation. Having lifelong luxuries beyond one’s wildest imagination, in the end, the prince learns what constitutes the only true pleasure in life.

The Basic Law, which has governed Hong Kong since 1997, unequivocally protected freedom of movement, conscience, communications, and privacy; indeed, the term "inviolable" was applied to assurances that no citizen would be subject to unlawful arrest, detention or imprisonment. Perhaps most importantly, Beijing pledged Hong Kong citizens would enjoy universal suffrage in the selection of their political leadership. Hong Kong's citizens trusted that democratic elections would be the ultimate guardian of their human and political rights. Beijing has reversed, denied, and delayed each of its legal commitments bringing millions of Hong Kong's citizens into the streets. In the pasts few months, over 1,100 people have been arrested for exercising their legal rights. Now, Beijing and its appointed leaders are falsely blaming and attacking the victims of its surveillance and strangulation policy.

This year has been one of extreme volatility in the relationship between the U.S. and China. Change and unpredictability have been so significant since we began our hearings this year that Commissioners thought it would be valuable to revisit and explore some key topics in the economic and security realms.

Renewable Energy Tariffs and Incentives in Indonesia Review and Recommendations【電子書籍】[ Asian Development Bank ]

This report proposes a renewable energy subsidy mechanism for Indonesia to close the gap between the costs of renewable and conventional power generation. It takes into account the additional economic benefits of renewable power and considers how the government can support its rapid deployment in the power sector. The report emphasizes the need for Indonesia to adopt international best practice for planning, procurement, contracting, and risk mitigation to reduce the financial costs of renewable energy development. To achieve this, implementation of the subsidy should be part of a broader inter-ministerial electricity policy reform program.

Tariffs, Blockades, and Inflation The Economics of the Civil War【電子書籍】[ Mark Thornton ]

What role did economics play in leading the United States into the Civil War in the 1860s, and how did the war affect the economies of the North and the South? Tariffs, Blockades, and Inflation uses contemporary economic analyses such as supply and demand, modern market theory, and the economics of politics to interpret events of the Civil War.

Simplifying the sometimes complex intricacies of the subject matter, Thornton and Ekelund have penned a nontechnical primer that is jargon-free and accessible. Tariffs, Blockades, and Inflation also takes a comprehensive approach to its topic. It offers a cohesive and a persuasive explanation of the how, what, and why behind the many factors at work on both sides of the contest. While most books only delve into a particular aspect of the war, this title effectively bridges the gap by offering an all-encompassing, yet relatively brief, introduction to the essential economics of the Civil War.

This book starts out with a look at the reasons for the beginning of the Civil War, including explaining why the war began when it did. It then examines the economic realities in both the North and South. Also covered are the different financial strategies implemented by both the Union and the Confederacy to fund the war and the reasons behind what ultimately led to Southern defeat. Finally, the economic effect of Reconstruction is discussed, including the impact it had on the former slave population.

Thornton and Ekelund have contributed an overdue examination of the Civil War that will impart to students a modern way to better comprehend the conflict. Tariffs, Blockades, and Inflation offers fresh, penetrating insights into this pivotal event in American history.

Renewable Energy Policy Convergence in the EU The Evolution of Feed-in Tariffs in Germany, Spain and France【電子書籍】[ David Jacobs ]

This book examines the coordination of renewable energy policies in the European Union using an innovative theoretical approach to explain national policy making. David Jacobs asks, why are national support instruments for electricity from renewable energy sources converging, even though the harmonisation of these frameworks at the European level has failed? Which causal mechanisms lead to cross-national policy similarities? And what are the implications for policy coordination in the EU? The author traces the evolution of feed-in tariffs - the most successful and most widely used support mechanism for renewable electricity - in Germany, Spain and France. He reveals increasing cross-national policy similarities in feed-in tariff design - despite the failure of harmonizing instruments at the European level. He explains these increasing policy similarities by applying policy convergence theory. Policy convergence can occur voluntarily, based on transnational communication, regulatory competition and technological innovations and these findings have important implications for European policy steering. The key to this book is the interrelation of an innovative theoretical concept (coordination of policies in the international arena via voluntary cooperation) with a very topical empirical research focus - the promotion of renewable energies in the EU. It will be essential reading for scholars and students of environmental policy, comparative politics and European studies.

Sustainable Trade Changing the Environment the Market Operates In, Through Standardized Global Trade Tariffs【電子書籍】[ Zoltan Ban ]

The central subject of Sustainable Trade is the benefit to the global economys long-term health, derived from the proposed standardization of global trade tariffs. What we learned from the past two decades of globalization is that global efforts to tackle global problems, such as environmental degradation and resource depletion have fallen flat on their face. The Kyoto agreement, based on voluntary goodwill to make an effort to prevent climate change, has been a disaster. The free markets allocation of scarce natural resources did not prevent us from increasing our global energy thirst by 40% over two decades. The commodity price spikes we witnessed as a result in the past few years, are just a preview of what awaits us. To make matters worse, it is increasingly obvious that the owners of capital are now firmly in the driving seat when it comes to negotiating investment terms. The things they seem to put a premium on lately when it comes to allocating capital, is a lack of environmental and human rights protection and exemptions from taxation as a precondition. Given the failures we witnessed so far in trying to tackle global scale problems, which will be more frequent as we increasingly become a global village, the only logical alternative to current status quo initiatives is the sustainability trade tariff, designed to encourage environmental and human rights protections as well as encouraging efficiency evenly around the world. It is a big and even painful change that we have to make, but it may now be the only alternative to eventual collapse.

Tariff Structure, Intermediate Goods, and China?U.S.

Focusing on the interconnection of tariff structure, international trade and welfare evaluation, the book investigates the characteristics of tariff structures of China and the U.S. in recent years and measures the impact of the Sino?U.S. trade friction that started in 2018. The first part of the book discusses levels and evolution trends of tariff systems of China and the U.S. from 2000 to 2014 and makes a comparison between the two countries' tariff structures. The second part centers on the Sino?U.S. trade friction in 2018, analyzing its development, overall impact on welfare, and relevant impact mechanisms. The author draws on the quantitative analysis method currently prevailing in the field of international trade, taking global value chains, intermediate goods, and variable markup into consideration. In contrast to the research conclusion applying standard trade theory, the result indicates that either unilateral imposition of additional tariffs or bilateral tariff friction will give rise to the deteriorated welfare level of both countries. The book will appeal to academics and policy makers interested in international trade, China?U.S. relation and the trade friction.
