At What Cost, Silence? The Texian Trilogy, Book 1【電子書籍】[ Karen Lynne Klink ]

Adrien Villere suspects he is not like other boys. For years, he desperately locks away his feelings and fearsーbut eventually, tragedy and loss drive him to seeking solace from his mentor, a young neighbor Jacob Hart. Jacob’s betrayal of Adrien’s trust, however, results in secret abuse, setting off a chain of actions from which neither Adrien’s wise sister, Bernadette, nor his closest friend, Isaac, can turn him.

At What Cost, Silence presents two contrasting plantation families in a society where strict rules of belief and behavior are clear, and public opinion can shape an entire life. Centerstage are the Villeres, a family less brutal than the Harts, but no less divisive. Often-absent Papa Paien Villere guards several secrets he has kept from everyoneーincluding one which could destroy his entire family. Years after Jacob’s betrayal, Adrien falls hopelessly in love with his former mentor’s erotically precocious and beautiful young sister Lilyーwhose father has affianced her to a wealthy older man.

What will happen if Lily’s violent brother learns of Adrien and Lily’s clandestine affair? Will Adrien aid in freeing Isaacーan enslaved Black manーas promised? Will Bernadette find the unconventional life she seeks? Or will their entire world end as states secede and war creeps ever closer?

Texian Volunteer vs Mexican Soldier The Texas Revolution 1835?36【電子書籍】[ Ron Field ]

Fully illustrated with specially commissioned artwork and mapping plus carefully chosen archive illustrations, many in color, this lively study investigates the Mexican soldiers and Texian volunteers who fought one another in three key battles during the Texas Revolution.

Following unrest throughout Mexico, in 1835 a revolt began in Texas among the Anglophone and Tejano-speaking settlers, known as Texians. Having retreated after their defeat at Bexar in December 1835, Mexican troops were ordered to re-occupy Texas in early 1836. In this volume, US military history expert Ron Field explores in detail three key battles that ensued. From February 23, Mexican forces besieged the Texian forces at the Alamo at San Antonio de Bexar; in the subsequent battle on March 6, almost all of the Texian defenders were killed. On March 19, forces en route to join the main Texian army were surrounded by Mexican troops at Coleto Creek. Following their surrender, about 340 Texian prisoners were shot by Mexican soldiers in what became known as the Goliad Massacre. On April 21, a Texian force launched a surprise attack on a larger Mexican army near the San Jacinto River, the decisive Texian victory that resulted is the third battle to be investigated in this study.

Featuring full-color artwork and maps and drawing upon the latest research, this book investigates the fighting men of both sides at the Alamo, Coleto Creek, and the San Jacinto River, casting light on the doctrine, tactics, weaponry, and combat record of the Texian and Mexican combatants who clashed in the first weeks of the emerging Republic of Texas.

The Texian Prisoners A Biographical Novel of Old New Mexico【電子書籍】[ Loretta Miles Tollefson ]

They called themselves "Texians." In 1841, a band of roughly 300 men straggled out of the Staked Plains into New Mexico. Their goal had been to claim everything east of the Rio Grande for Texas. Instead, they were captured and sent south to Mexico City via El Paso. The escort for the final group of prisoners, which included journalist George Wilkins Kendall, was led by Captain Damasio Salazar. Five prisoners died on that trek. Kendall would later write a book describing the experience, a book which accused Salazar of food deprivation, mutilation, and murder, and fed the discontent that would become the Mexican-American War.

But what really happened on the trek to El Paso? The Texian Prisoners tells the story through the eyes of Kendall's friend George Van Ness, a lawyer burdened with the ability to see his enemy's point of view, and asks us to consider the possibility that Kendall's report was not unbiased.

A historically accurate retelling of Larry McMurtry's Dead Man's Walk, this fictional memoir will make you question everything you thought you knew about Texas, New Mexico, and the boundary between them.

Texian Iliad A Military History of the Texas Revolution, 1835-1836【電子書籍】[ Stephen L. Hardin ]

Winner, T. R. Fehrenbach Book Award, Texas Historical Commission
Summerfield G. Roberts Award, Sons of the Republic of Texas
Honorable Mention, Certificate of Commendation, American Association for State and Local History

Hardly were the last shots fired at the Alamo before the Texas Revolution entered the realm of myth and controversy. French visitor Frederic Gaillardet called it a "Texian Iliad" in 1839, while American Theodore Sedgwick pronounced the war and its resulting legends "almost burlesque."

In this highly readable history, Stephen L. Hardin discovers more than a little truth in both of those views. Drawing on many original Texan and Mexican sources and on-site inspections of almost every battlefield, he offers the first complete military history of the Revolution. From the war's opening in the "Come and Take It" incident at Gonzales to the capture of General Santa Anna at San Jacinto, Hardin clearly describes the strategy and tactics of each side. His research yields new knowledge of the actions of famous Texan and Mexican leaders, as well as fascinating descriptions of battle and camp life from the ordinary soldier's point of view.

This award-winning book belongs on the bookshelf of everyone interested in Texas or military history.

"Texas Ranger Indian Tales: Capture of Cynthia Ann Parker: At the Massacre At Parker's Fort; Her Years With The Comanche; Rescue By Captain Ross, of the Texian Rangers", by James T. DeShields recounts from original sources, including the Texans involved, the story of Cynthia Ann Parker.

Cynthia ann Parker was captured by the Comanche at the age of nine. She was "married" to the War Chief Peta Nocona and bore him several children among whom was Quanah Parker who became a great chief of the Comanche both before and after that tribe was settled on a reservation after their military defeats described in the book.

After 25 years with the Comanche she was returned to her relatives, who had given her up as dead or lost to them forever. She had to relearn "civilization" in its entirety, including the english language.

An interesting part of the romantic history of both the Texas Rangers, the state of Texas, and the men and women who forged Texas. A short book of approximately 18,000+ words, rare and long out-of-print in its 1914 bound version, it is now available in the e-book format for the reader interested in Texas and Texas Ranger history.

This is a short e-book of approximately 17,100+ words and approximately 57 pages at 300 words per page.

NOTE: This book has been scanned then OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been applied to turn the scanned page images back into editable text. Then every effort has been made to correct typos, spelling, and to eliminate stray marks picked up by the OCR program. The original and/or extra period images, if any, were then placed in the appropriate place and, finally, the file was formatted for the e-book criteria of the site. This means that the text CAN be re-sized, searches performed, & bookmarks added, unlike some other e-books that are only scanned---errors, stray marks, and all.

We have added an Interactive Table of Contents & an Interactive List of Illustrations if any were present in the original. This means that the reader can click on the links in the Table of Contents or the List of Illustrations & be instantly transported to that chapter or illustration.

Our aim is to provide the reader AND the collector with long out-of-print (OOP) classic books at realistic prices. If you load your mobile device(s) with our books, not only will you have fingertip access to a large library of antiquarian and out-of-print material at reasonable prices, but you can mark them up electronically & always have them for immediate reference without worrying about damage or loss to expensive bound copies.

We will be adding to our titles regularly, look for our offerings on your favorite e-book site.
