Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Neuropsychiatric Disorders Clinical Principles and Management【

The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive review of the use of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in different psychiatric conditions. Here we review tDCS clinical studies employing different types of design (from single-session tDCS studies to randomized clinical trials) as well as studies evaluating the impact of tDCS in neurophysiological, behavioral and brain imaging outcomes.

Although the understanding about physiological foundations and effectiveness of clinical therapies of psychiatric diseases has been considerably increased during the last decades, our knowledge is still limited, and consequently psychiatric diseases are still a major burden to the individual patient and society. Recently, interest in pathological alterations of neuroplasticity in psychiatric diseases as a critical condition for development, and amelioration of clinical symptoms increased, caused by the fact that new tools, such as functional imaging, and brain stimulation techniques do allow to monitor, and modulate these phenomena in humans. Especially non-invasive brain stimulation techniques evolved as an attractive potential new therapeutic tool. The interest in non-invasive brain stimulation has grown exponentially in the past 25 years, with the development of non-pharmacological, neuromodulatory techniques such as tDCS and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). TDCS, although even newer than rTMS, has attracted considerable attention in both basic and clinical research scenarios. In the context of clinical research, tDCS is being increasingly investigated as a novel treatment tool for several psychiatric disorders, such as major depression, schizophrenia and neurocognitive and substance abuse disorders.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Neuropsychiatric Disorders ? Clinical Principles and Management intends to serve as a practical guide on the field, attracting the interest of psychiatrists, neurologists andneuroscientists with little or no experience with tDCS, as well as those with a background on tDCS who want to increase their knowledge in any particular psychiatric condition.

Magnetic Forces help the body to heal itself by stimulating the biochemistry of the body so natural healing can take place. It is simple to apply, effective and inexpensive.

Magnetic Therapy i.e. use of magnets for cure has been a part of basic healing procedure since recorded history. Egyptian nobility and royalty were supposed to wear magnetic jewelry i.e. jewelry made of magnetic materials to preserve youth and beauty. African tribes have also been known to use magnetic ores in food preparations- it is only recently it has been “rediscovered” that, the magnetic fields can alter the flavor of some foods.

Magnets have been known for their healing properties and their use in prevention and cure has been noted in ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). One of the oldest medical book from the orient- “Chinese Yellow Emperor’s Book of Internal Medicine” written around 2000 B.C. has elaborate mention of the use of magnets in healing day to day ailments such as aches and pains.

Magnetic Therapy has also been known in it’s use to cure paraplegia, rheumatism and arthritic limb swellings by eating certain potent magnetic ores. Orient has always used magnets along with other traditional therapies such as acupuncture and acupressure. Within the western world, Aristotle noted around 300 B.C. the many uses of magnets in healing therapies. In 100 A.D. Pliny, a younger Greek physician wrote about the uses of magnets in healing eye diseases. Galen, a third century Roman physician, observed that magnets could also help in constipation when placed correctly over the abdomen and colon area. In 400 A.D. first known use of magnetic jewelry in the form of a necklace of noted for healing. Thus there are numerous noted mentions in recorded medical history of the use of magnetic therapy- particularly for subsiding chronic pain.

This book discusses use of Magnets for healing- for relieving pain, it's benefits and possible side effects along with some of the more noted medical use of magnets in Trans Cranial Magnetic Stimulation and Bio Electromagnetism.

Table of Contents

Preface: A word from the publisher about this series
Introduction: Magnetic Healing
History of Magnetic Therapy
Understanding Magnets
Using Magnetic Therapy
How does Magnetic Therapy work?
How is Magnetic Therapy delivered?
Advantages of Magnetic Therapy
Are there any side effects of Magnetic Therapy?
Hidden benefits of Magnetic Bracelets
Skepticism against effectiveness of Magnetic Therapy
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
Bio-electromagnetism
Postface: Bringing it all together…
Other Books in this Series
Thank you for your purchase

The Oxford Handbook of Transcranial Stimulation Second Edition【電子書籍】[ Eric Wassermann ]

Transcranial stimulation encompasses noninvasive methods that transmit physical fields-such as magnetic, electric, ultrasound, and light-to the brain to modulate its function. The most widespread approach, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), has emerged as an important tool in several areas of neuroscience as well as in clinical applications in psychiatry and neurology. Originally envisioned as a way to measure the responsiveness and conduction speed of neurons and synapses in the brain and spinal cord, TMS has also become an important tool for changing the activity of brain neurons and the functions they subserve as well as an causal adjunct to brain imaging and mapping techniques. Along with transcranial electrical stimulation techniques, TMS has diffused far beyond the borders of clinical neurophysiology and into cognitive, perceptual, behavioural, and therapeutic investigation and attracted a highly diverse group of users and would-be users. Another major success of TMS has been as a treatment in psychiatry, where it is now in routine use worldwide. The field of noninvasive neuromodulation has matured and diversified considerably in the past decade, with an expansion in the number of tools available and our understanding of their mechanisms of action. This second edition of The Oxford Handbook of Transcranial Stimulation brings together the latest developments and important advances in all areas of Transcranial stimulation. The new volume captures the rapid progress made since the first edition, and provides an authoritative and comprehensive review of the state of the art. It also highlights challenges, opportunities, and future directions for this rapidly changing field. The book focuses on the scientific and technical background required to understand transcranial stimulation techniques and a wide-ranging survey of their burgeoning applications in neurophysiology, neuroscience, and therapy. Each of its six sections deals with a major area and is edited by an international authority therein. It will serve researchers, clinicians, students, and others as the definitive text in this area for years to come.

Endoscope-controlled Transcranial Surgery Advancing the Standard of Intraoperative Visualization - Vol. 52【

This book addresses the fully endoscopic or endoscope-controlled transcranial surgery. As a surgical philosophy, it entails that the whole procedure is performed through a tailored keyhole craniotomy under the exclusive control of the rigid endoscope without the use of other visualization tools like surgical microscopes or exoscopes. Despite the well-known extreme superiority of the endoscopic view, especially at deep surgical targets, performing surgery under pure endoscopic control is currently adopted by few neurosurgeons across the globe. The main objective of this book to shed the light on this minimally-invasive surgical methodology and demonstrate its advantages and practical do ability.

Many internationally renowned expert neurosurgeons thoroughly describe how these procedures are performed using detailed descriptions of the surgical techniques and high-quality illustrations and exquisite intraoperative endoscopic images.

Endoscope-controlled Transcranial Surgery will be a valuable guide to practicing neurosurgeons in raising the bar of intraoperative visualization, with a consequent great improvement of safety and efficacy of the procedure performed. Furthermore, the book will serve as a starting point for more widespread utilization and dispersion of this surgical philosophy in the future.
