The Complete Works of Oscar Wilde (more than 150 Works)【電子書籍】[ Oscar Wilde ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

This carefully crafted ebook is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents of the complete works of Oscar Wilde, containing more than 150 works. Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde (1854 ? 1900) was an Irish writer and poet. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. Today he is remembered for his epigrams and plays, and the circumstances of his imprisonment which was followed by his early death. At the turn of the 1890s, he refined his ideas about the supremacy of art in a series of dialogues and essays, and incorporated themes of decadence, duplicity, and beauty into his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890). The opportunity to construct aesthetic details precisely, and combine them with larger social themes, drew Wilde to write drama. He wrote Salome (1891) in French in Paris but it was refused a licence. Unperturbed, Wilde produced four society comedies in the early 1890s, which made him one of the most successful playwrights of late Victorian London. At the height of his fame and success, while his masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest (1895), was still on stage in London, Wilde had the Marquess of Queensberry, the father of his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, prosecuted for libel, a charge carrying a penalty of up to two years in prison. The trial unearthed evidence that caused Wilde to drop his charges and led to his own arrest and trial for gross indecency with other men. After two more trials he was convicted and imprisoned for two years' hard labour. In 1897, in prison, he wrote De Profundis which was published in 1905, a long letter which discusses his spiritual journey through his trials, forming a dark counterpoint to his earlier philosophy of pleasure. Upon his release he left immediately for France, never to return to Ireland or Britain.
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 250円

The Picture of Dorian Gray【電子書籍】[ Oscar Wilde ]

楽天Kobo電子書籍ストア

Wilde's only novel, first published in 1890, is a brilliantly designed puzzle, intended to tease conventional minds with its exploration of the myriad interrelationships between art, life and consequence. From its provocative Preface, challenging the reader to belief in 'art for art's sake', to its sensational conclusion, the story self-consciously experiments with the notion of sin as an element of design. Yet Wilde himself underestimated the consequences of his experiment, and its capacity to outrage the Victorian establishment. Its words returned to haunt him in his court appearances in 1895, and he later recalled the 'note of doom' which runs like 'a purple thread' through its carefully crafted prose. A wonderful book! ーW. B. Yeats While in one sense "The Picture of Dorian Gray" is as transparent as a medieval allegory and its structure as workmanlike as that of Marlowe's "Dr. Faustus"… in another sense it remains a puzzle: knotted, convoluted, brilliantly enigmatic. ーJoyce Carol Oates A story strange in conception, strong in interest, and fitted with a tragic and ghastly climax… A remarkable book. ーJulian Hawthorne Mr. Wilde's work may fairly claim to go with that of Edgar Poe. ーWalter Pater
画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。 ※ご購入は、楽天kobo商品ページからお願いします。※切り替わらない場合は、こちら をクリックして下さい。 ※このページからは注文できません。 200円

The student takes the rose to the professor's daughter, but she again rejects him because another man has sent her some real jewels, and "everybody knows that jewels cost far more than flowers."
During his writing career, Oscar Wilde became known for his involvement in the rising philosophy of aestheticism. The opportunity to construct aesthetic details precisely, and combine them with larger social themes, drew Wilde to write drama. He started with philosophical dialogues and tragedies, and later moved on to comedies. Wilde produced several society comedies in the early 1890s, which made him one of the most successful playwrights of late-Victorian London. With these plays, he finally found a way to critique society on its own terms. Table of Contents: Vera The Duchess of Padua Lady Windermere's Fan A Woman of No Importance Salom?
