A sz?ps?g filoz?fi?ja【電子書籍】[ Oscar Wilde ]

Nagy m?velts?gr?l, eszt?tikai k?rd?sekr?l ma is ?rdekesen ?r, hiszen m?r a r?maiak is tudt?k: Ars longa, Vita brevis...

In "Intentions," Oscar Wilde presents a collection of essays that delve into aesthetics, ethics, and the role of the artist in society, exemplifying his characteristic wit and aphoristic brilliance. Written in a lush, engaging literary style, Wilde explores the idea of art for art's sake, arguing against the moralizing tendencies of his contemporaries. The essays provide a critical reflection on the interplay between beauty, truth, and morality, situated within the broader context of the late Victorian era's cultural clash between rigid moral standards and burgeoning artistic freedom. Oscar Wilde, a leading figure in the Aesthetic Movement, was profoundly influenced by his own experiences navigating the complexities of societal norms and artistic expression. His stand against conventional morality was both personal and philosophical, shaped by his education at Trinity College and his time in Paris, where he encountered diverse artistic movements. "Intentions" serves as a manifesto for his beliefs, revealing his commitment to individuality and the importance of aesthetic pursuits. This thought-provoking collection is essential reading for anyone interested in literary criticism, aesthetic philosophy, or the evolution of modern thought. Wilde's incisive essays challenge readers to reflect on the relationship between art and society, making it a timeless contribution to the discourse on artistic identity and purpose.

''An Ideal Husband'' is a play written by Oscar Wilde, a comedy that takes place over a short period of time and involves blackmail and corruption.

"An Ideal Husband" tells the story of Sir Robert Chiltern, a well-liked politician who is considered a bastion of morality by everyone he knows, especially his wife. However, an acquaintance of the Chilterns, Mrs Cheveley, uncovers a secret from Sir Robert’s past that could ruin both his reputation and his wife’s good opinion if were to become common knowledge. Sir Robert finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place as Mrs Cheveley attempts to blackmail him into supporting a fraudulent scheme that would leave his good name equally tarnished, and is forced to turn to his friend, the dandyish aesthete Lord Goring, to help him find a way out of this conundrum…

Oscar Wilde was one of the most fascinating authors of the 19th century, known as much for his witticisms as for his writing. His most notable works include the novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and the comic plays "An Ideal Husband" and "Lady Windermere’s Fan".

L'opera ? suddivisa in quattro racconti: Il giovane re (The Young King), Il compleanno dell'infanta (The Birthday of the Infanta), Il pescatore e la sua anima (The Fisherman and his Soul) e Il figlio delle stelle (The Star Child).
Probabilmente The Young King ? ispirato proprio all'autore e alla sua infanzia.

Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde, noto come Oscar Wilde (Dublino, 16 ottobre 1854 ?

Contos Completos de Oscar Wilde Edi??o bil?ngue portugu?s - ingl?s【電子書籍】[ Oscar Wilde ]

The picture of Dorian Gray【電子書籍】[ Oscar Wilde ]

The Picture of Dorian Gray is the only published novel by Oscar Wilde, appearing as the lead story in Lippincotts Monthly Magazine on 20 June 1890, printed as the July 1890 issue of this magazine. The magazines editors feared the story was indecent as submitted, so they censored roughly 500 words, without Wildes knowledge, before publication. But even with that, the story was still greeted with outrage by British reviewers, some of whom suggested that Wilde should be prosecuted on moral grounds, leading Wilde to defend the novel aggressively in letters to the British press. Wilde later revised the story for book publication, making substantial alterations, deleting controversial passages, adding new chapters, and including an aphoristic preface that has since become famous in its own right. The amended version was published by Ward Lock & Co in April 1891. Some scholars, however, favor the original version he originally submitted to Lippincotts.

"The Picture of Dorian Gray" is Oscar Wilde's classic tale of the moral decline of its title character, Dorian Gray. When Dorian has his portrait painted by Basil Hallward and wishes that he would stay young while his picture changes, his wish comes true. In exchange for this Dorian gives up his soul and as he ages the bad deeds that he commits are reflected in his painting and not him. The Canterville Ghost (Illustrated and Annotated)【電子書籍】[ Oscar Wilde ]

"The Canterville Ghost" is a popular short story by Oscar Wilde, widely adapted for film and stage. It was the first of Wilde's stories to be published, appearing in the magazine The Court and Society Review in February 1887. It was later included in a collection of short stories entitled Lord Arthur Savile's Crime and Other Stories in 1891.
The story of the Canterville Ghost was of an old British country house, Canterville Chase, which has all the accoutrements of a traditional haunted house. Descriptions of the wainscoting, the library panelled in black oak, and the armour in the hallway characterize the Gothic setting. Wilde mixes the macabre with comedy, juxtaposing devices from traditional English ghost stories such as creaking floorboards, clanking chains, and ancient prophecies with symbols of contemporary American consumerism.
This edition has been formatted for your reader, with an active table of contents. This edition is also illustrated and annotated, with additional information about the book and its author, including an overview, setting, plot, adaptations, references in music, biographical and bibliographical information.

A Preface to Oscar Wilde【電子書籍】[ Anne Varty ]

A Preface to Oscar Wilde provides a detailed study of the cultural, personal and political influences that shaped Wilde's writing. The study concentrates primarily on his fiction, critical dialogues and plays that were published between 1890 and 1895, and detailed accounts of Wilde's lesser known works such as his poetry, journalism and letters are also presented. The first section places his work in a variety of cultural contexts: Wilde's family life and his Irish inheritance are examined, the impact of his sexuality on his writing and reputation is considered, and a description is provided of how Wilde became a legendary figure in the arts. Major innovations and successes, such as The Picture of Dorian Gray, Salome and The Importance of Being Earnest are related to avant garde movements of their day such as aestheticism, decadence, and symbolism. Reference sections provide supporting material such as a Wilde chronology, a glossary of terms and a bibliography for further study.

Anne Varty sets out in this study to bring to life the work of Wilde, and to make his writing accessible to readers who are unfamiliar with his achievements. In so doing, she confronts the ethical drive of his work, and demonstrates the coherent evolution of his work from the aestheticism of the early poetry, through the sophisticated handling of theatre, to the dark self-scrutiny of autobiography.

The comprehensive and accessible approach makes this a useful reference work to all who are studying Oscar Wilde, both at A Level and undergraduate level. The content will also appeal to the general reader who is seeking to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of Wilde's work.

"You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit." ー Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891) by Oscar Wilde recounts the tale of the moral decadence of a young and good looking man, Dorian Gray. A beautiful life-like painting of Dorian is painted by Basil Hallward when Dorian, understanding that his beauty will fade, expresses the desire to sell his soul to ensure that the picture will age and fade instead of himself. Dorian locks the portrait up, and during the eighteen years that follow, every vice and wicked deed he performs gets reflected in the portrait. The portrait records every sin he commits, and the man in the portrait soon transforms into a hideous aged man. However, Dorian, in real-life, continues to look young and beautiful and does not age in these eighteen years. The numerous extraordinary experiences in Dorian's life makes this novel an engaging read with a lesson worth learning.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST and SALOM?

Oscar Wilde, one of the great names in British literature, stood out for his sharp wit and social critique. In " The Importance of Being Earnest", Wilde uses humor to satirize Victorian society, exposing the hypocrisy and absurdities of the era's moral values. The play follows the identity confusions and deceptions of its protagonists, creating a lighthearted and ironic comedy about social standards and marriage. " Salome", on the other hand, is a dark and poetic play inspired by the biblical story. Written in French and later translated, it explores themes of desire and power, centering on the character of Salome and her fatal obsession with John the Baptist. Unlike his other comedies, "Salome" showcases Wilde's tragic and daring side, adding an element of symbolism and provocation that challenged the norms of his time.

These two works are essential to understanding the versatility and depth of Oscar Wilde: "The Importance of Being Earnest" reveals his talent for comedy and social critique through lightness and humor, while "Salome" highlights his more poetic and daring side, exploring complex and dark themes. Together, they showcase Wilde's genius in moving between the comic and the tragic, making them essential readings for anyone seeking to understand the true essence of his literary legacy.
