Worldwide Delusion【電子書籍】[ M.A. Noble ]

History has repeated itself over and over again. History of wars, disasters, diseases and suffering, nothing much changes except technology, science and social engineering. Technology has advanced rapidly almost spiralling out of control, robotics, self drive electric cars, bionic limbs, designer babies, smart microchip televisions and much more to improve our lifestyles. Yet poverty, disease, severe weather conditions and devastating disasters remain. Why are so many young people obtaining guns or knives to go on a rampage of vengeance? Are we slowly being directed towards a new era? How safe are our children today? What is their future? Why is suicide, murder, drug addiction, violence and abuse on the increase?

So many questions that need answering! Do we really want to know what is going on in the world? Or do we bury our heads in the sand? Many excuses are made for these occurrences, but not many people actually delve deep to try to find the answers! Those that do, are labelled as 'conspiracy theorists' or extremists! Is it possible that conspiracy theorists have it right?
Humanity has been longsuffering for thousands of years yet we never question why or what is the purpose behind all of this suffering and anguish! Rather than seek out answers, people prefer to seek out pleasurable activities to hide their inner pain, while the world continues in chaos.

Is there hope for the future? Will society wake up to reality or blindly grope through the fog that covers up what is really going on! What if you were deliberately being prevented from seeing the truth?

This book [one of a series], focuses on the aspects of the above concepts but also looks at the world from a critical point of view. To this end the reader is provided with evidence that may prompt further questions and answers. I hope that readers will read objectively and just stand back, look up and around them, instead of looking at their phones or their feet. It is hoped that the reader will be challenged to research for truth and then pass it on to others.

We currently have 'free will' to make choices - for the moment! But if we are not aware, then we cannot know the choices we must make in the future!

The Belief in a Just World A Fundamental Delusion【電子書籍】[ Melvin Lerner ]

The "belief in a just world" is an attempt to capmre in a phrase one of the ways, if not the way, that people come to terms with-make sense out of-find meaning in, their experiences. We do not believe that things just happen in our world; there is a pattern to events which conveys not only a sense of orderli ness or predictability, but also the compelling experience of appropriateness ex pressed in the typically implicit judgment, "Yes, that is the way it should be." There are probably many reasons why people discover or develop a view of their environment in which events occur for good, understandable reasons. One explanation is simply that this view of reality is a direct reflection of the way both the human mind and the environment are constructed. Constancies, patterns which actually do exist in the environment-out there-are perceived, represented symbolically, and retained in the mind. This approach cenainly has some validity, and would probably suffice, if it were not for thatsense of "appropriateness," the pervasive affective com ponent in human experience. People have emotions and feelings, and these are especially apparent in their expectations about their world: their hopes, fears, disappointments, disillusionment, surprise, confidence, trust, despondency, anticipation-and certainly their sense of right, wrong, good, bad, ought, en titled, fair, deserving, just.

Where mainstream nutritional science has demonised dietary fat for 50 years, hundreds of millions of dollars of research have failed to prove that eating a low-fat diet will help you live longer. Nutrition and obesity scientists have struggled to make sense of the paradox that obesity has become an epidemic, that diabetes rates have soared and the incidence of heart disease has not declined despite the fact that society is more diet and health aware today than generations ago.

The Diet Delusion is an in-depth, scientific, groundbreaking examination of what actually happens in your body as a result of what you eat, rather than what the diet industry might have you believe happens and is essential reading for anyone trying to decide which diet - low-fat or low-carbohydrate - is truly the healthy diet.

For years we have been deluded by the dieting industry. The Witchcraft Delusion in New England (Vol. 1-3) Its Rise, Progress, and Termination (Complete Edition)【電子書籍】[ Cotton Mather ]

The Witchcraft Delusion in New England (Vol. 1-3) represents a foundational collection in the study of early American history, witchcraft beliefs, and the social hysteria that enveloped New England during the late 17th century. Within these volumes, readers will find a diverse range of literary styles, from the passionate theological arguments of Cotton Mather, a key proponent of the witch trials, to the critical, skeptical perspective of Robert Calef, who contested Mather's views. This juxtaposition not only showcases the varied literary responses to the witch trials but also situates the collection within a broader historical and cultural conversation about belief, rationality, and the power of fear in shaping communities. The contributing authors, Cotton Mather and Robert Calef, offer contrasting insights into the witch trials, representing the polarized views of their time. Mather, a Puritan minister deeply embedded in the cultural and spiritual life of New England, provides a window into the mindset fostering the witchcraft hysteria. Conversely, Calef, a merchant with a critical eye, offers a counter-narrative challenging the prevailing attitudes and practices of witch trials. Their combined works illuminate the complexities of the period, revealing the interplay between religious fervor, societal fear, and the struggle for rational discourse. This collection is a must-read for those interested in early American history, the sociology of hysteria, and the intersection of faith and logic in pre-Enlightenment societies. It offers a unique opportunity to explore contrasting viewpoints within the same historic episodes, providing a rich tapestry of thought and debate. For scholars, students, and general readers alike, The Witchcraft Delusion in New England offers a comprehensive, nuanced exploration of a critical moment in history, encouraging a deeper understanding of how collective fears can shape, and often distort, societal norms and justice.

Schizophrenia A Scientific Delusion?【電子書籍】[ Mary Boyle ]

The idea of "schizophrenia" as a disease has become profoundly influential both within the medical profession and amongst the general public. So strong is this idea that those who criticize it are apt to be dismissed as being either ignorant of the latest research or indifferent to the fate of the "mentally ill". This book challenges such ideas by offering a detailed critique of the origins and development of the concept and diagnosis of schizophrenia. Mary Boyle shows how such diagnoses did and still do rely on opinion rather than evidence, how they were characterized by conceptual confusion, and how subsequent research has been misrepresented. She therefore questions the validity of schizophrenia as illness, but emphasizes thatm this is not to deny the existence of bizarre behaviour. She offers alternative interpretations of such behaviour, and points out the need to ask searching questions about the labelling of some behaviour as symptomatic of mental illness. By focusing not on schizophrenics, but on those who diagnose schizophrenia, this book will undoubtedly attract some criticism and debate. Yet her approach allows the author to question traditional interpretations of bizarre behaviour, and to make more central the social and ethical issues which surround it.

Unweaving the Rainbow Science, Delusion and the Appetite for Wonder【電子書籍】[ Richard Dawkins ]

**From the New York Times?bestselling author of Science in the Soul. “If any recent writing about science is poetic, it is this” (The Wall Street Journal).

Did Sir Isaac Newton “unweave the rainbow” by reducing it to its prismatic colors, as John Keats contended? Did he, in other words, diminish beauty? Far from it, says acclaimed scientist Richard Dawkins; Newton’s unweaving is the key too much of modern astronomy and to the breathtaking poetry of modern cosmology. Mysteries don’t lose their poetry because they are solved: the solution often is more beautiful than the puzzle, uncovering deeper mysteries. With the wit, insight, and spellbinding prose that have made him a bestselling author, Dawkins takes up the most important and compelling topics in modern science, from astronomy and genetics to language and virtual reality, combining them in a landmark statement of the human appetite for wonder.

This is the book Dawkins was meant to write: A brilliant assessment of what science is (and isn’t), a tribute to science not because it is useful but because it is uplifting.

“A love letter to science, an attempt to counter the perception that science is cold and devoid of aesthetic sensibility . . . Rich with metaphor, passionate arguments, wry humor, colorful examples, and unexpected connections, Dawkins’ prose can be mesmerizing.” ーSan Francisco Chronicle

“Brilliance and wit.” ーThe New Yorker

The Net Delusion The Dark Side of Internet Freedom【電子書籍】[ Evgeny Morozov ]

"The revolution will be Twittered!" declared journalist Andrew Sullivan after protests erupted in Iran in June 2009. Yet for all the talk about the democratizing power of the Internet, regimes in Iran and China are as stable and repressive as ever. In fact, authoritarian governments are effectively using the Internet to suppress free speech, hone their surveillance techniques, disseminate cutting-edge propaganda, and pacify their populations with digital entertainment. Could the recent Western obsession with promoting democracy by digital means backfire? In this spirited book, journalist and social commentator Evgeny Morozov shows that by falling for the supposedly democratizing nature of the Internet, Western do-gooders may have missed how it also entrenches dictators, threatens dissidents, and makes it harder -- not easier -- to promote democracy. Buzzwords like "21st-century statecraft" sound good in PowerPoint presentations, but the reality is that "digital diplomacy" requires just as much oversight and consideration as any other kind of diplomacy. Marshaling compelling evidence, Morozov shows why we must stop thinking of the Internet and social media as inherently liberating and why ambitious and seemingly noble initiatives like the promotion of "Internet freedom" might have disastrous implications for the future of democracy as a whole.

Oh How Great The Delusion Urgent Messages To A World Deluded By Religion【電子書籍】[ RayJoe ]

This book pulls the pants down on religion. “Oh How Great the Delusion” is one of those books that has the potential to change the world. To help liberate the people from the shackles and chains of religion by pointing out in a most clear, irrefutable way, the nonsense religious believers devote their lives to. RayJoe, a former Christian, simply exposes religion for the delusion it is. We all know one can make a case in an effort to debunk religion by using philosophical, scientific and historical arguments; or one could point out the many obvious contradictions, errors and false prophecies in the bible to prove it is strictly a product of men. But it is even easier than going through all that to see we have been deluded by religion. RayJoe points out elementary examples such as when sick children of religious parents die because they believed entirely in Jesus to heal rather than a real physician. A tragedy such as this should cause sensible, thinking people to discard the religion as false, and thus leave it. When gay teens commit suicide because their devout fanatical parents insist they change or be tossed in a hell, then you can throw your religion in the trash can, not your children. When religions claim they have the absolute truth and bring about division, discord, strife and death because of it then we as a human race have got to stop this insanity of religion. When disasters and tragedy strike the devout believers and their churches get wiped out by earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes etc. then they should come out from their delusion that their god blesses them, protects them and their loved ones, their property and places of worship. It is not true. They are simply deceived by scriptures and should not mistake any good luck, or comfortable living for answered prayer or blessings. The evidence is overwhelmingly contrary to that. One of the big highlights of this book is “The Letter to the Religionians.” It is written in the style of the bible and is an incredibly, honest, heartfelt, bold, shocking and truthful message to the churches, believers everywhere, to clergy etc. With this single letter the world could be saved from the nonsense of religion. A letter of rebuke that will surely make the religious folks blood boil because they know it’s simply true what is being said. You will also find in this book, a multitude of quotes that help drive home the point that religion is a delusion. There are more than 200 qoutations from numerous great thinkers from times past and who know religion for what it is: an utter lie and the biggest hoax ever perpetrated upon mankind. After reading these many quotes one cannot help but see religion with its “pants pulled down,” and exposed for all to see the silliness, and insanity men have been lead to believe and how those false beliefs have affected society in negative ways. This book will help you to treasure reality, common sense, reason, logic, rationality, science and observation. RayJoe implores people to think for themselves, be free from the iron grip of religion. To know that religion is unnatural, man-made and designed to control the masses by instilling people with fear and guilt. Driven by selfishness, greed and power, this religious virus can infect anyone at any age. But they like to get you brainwashed when you are young or vulnerable and at low points in your life. But, changes are coming in the way humanity looks at religion and this book is truly a think bomb to help blow apart the delusion of religion that plagues mankind. To dismantle it in an elementary, common sense fashion that even kids can understand is what we need and this is it. The thinker will treasure this book as much as the non-thinker treasures their Bible or Koran.

The Populist Delusion【電子書籍】[ Neema Parvini ]

The 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump unleashed a wave of populism not seen in America since the Nixon era, which carried him into the presidency. Seen widely as a vindication of the people over elites, his failure to bring about any meaningful change was then seen as an aberration, a departure from a natural state where the people are sovereign and their representatives govern by their consent. This is the populist delusion.

This book explodes that delusion. Beginning with the Italian elite school, Parvini shows the top-down and elite driven nature of politics by explicating one thinker per chapter: Mosca, Pareto, Michels, Schmitt, Jouvenel, Burnham, Francis, and Gottfried. The sobering picture that emerges is that the interests of the people have only ever been advanced by a tightly organized minority. Just as fire drives out fire, so an elite is only ever driven out by another elite.

The Populist Delusion is the remedy for a self-defeating folk politics that has done the people a great disservice.

Weapons of Mass Delusion When the Republican Party Lost Its Mind【電子書籍】[ Robert Draper ]

**One of The Washington Post's 10 Best Books of 2022

The disturbing eyewitness account of how a new breed of Republicansーled by Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and Madison Cawthornーfar from moving on from Trump, have taken the politics of hysteria to even greater extremes and brought American democracy to the edge**

The violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, was a terrible day for American democracy, but many people dared to hope that at least it would break the fever that had overcome the Republican Party and banish Trump's relentless lies about the stealing of the 2020 election. That is not what happened. Instead, “the big steal” has become dogma among an ever-higher percentage of American Republicans. What happened to the Republican Party, and America, during the Trump presidency is a story we more or less think we know. What has happened to the party since, it turns out, is even more disquieting. That is the story Robert Draper tells in Weapons of Mass Delusion.

Through his extraordinarily intrepid cross-country reporting, Draper chronicles the road from January 6 to the 2022 midterms among the Republican base and in the U.S. Congress, rendering unforgettable portraits of how Marjorie Taylor Greene and her ilk came to shape their party’s terms of engagement to an extent that would have been unimaginable even five years ago. He also brings to life the efforts of a dwindling group of Republicans who are willing to push back against the falsehoods, in the face of a group of ascendent demagogues who are merrily weaponizing them. With a base whipped up into a perpetual frenzy of outrage by conspiracy theoriesーnot just about the big steal but about COVID and vaccines, pedophilia and Antifa and Black Lives Matter and George Soros and President Obama, and on and on and onーthe forces of reason within the GOP are on the defensive, to put it mildly. The book also benefits greatly from reporting conducted in Texas, Arizona, Georgia, New Hampshire, and other bellwether states in the country of the mind one might call a fever of undending conspiracies.

Robert Draper has been a wise, fearless, and fair-minded chronicler of the American political scene for over twenty-five years. He has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. He has never seen it this ugly. Ultimately, this book tells the story of a fearful test of our ability, as a country, to hold together a system of government grounded in truth and the rule of law. Written on the eve of the 2022 midterm elections, Draper’s account of a party teetering on the precipice of madness reveals how the GOP fringe became its center of gravity.

The Platform Delusion Who Wins and Who Loses in the Age of Tech Titans【電子書籍】[ Jonathan A. Knee ]

An investment banker and professor explains what really drives success in the tech economy

Many think that they understand the secrets to the success of the biggest tech companies: Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google. It's the platform economy, or network effects, or some other magical power that makes their ultimate world domination inevitable. Investment banker and professor Jonathan Knee argues that the truth is much more complicated--but entrepreneurs and investors can understand what makes the giants work, and learn the keys to lasting success in the digital economy.

Knee explains what really makes the biggest tech companies work: a surprisingly disparate portfolio of structural advantages buttressed by shrewd acquisitions, strong management, lax regulation, and often, encouraging the myth that they are invincible to discourage competitors. By offering fresh insights into the true sources of strength and very real vulnerabilities of these companies, The Platform Delusion shows how investors, existing businesses, and startups might value them, compete with them, and imitate them.

The Platform Delusion demystifies the success of the biggest digital companies in sectors from retail to media to software to hardware, offering readers what those companies don't want everyone else to know. Knee's insights are invaluable for entrepreneurs and investors in digital businesses seeking to understand what drives resilience and profitability for the long term.

The Christian Delusion Why Faith Fails【

In this anthology of recent criticisms aimed at the reasonableness of Christian belief, a former evangelical minister and apologist, author of the critically acclaimed Why I Became an Atheist, has assembled fifteen outstanding articles by leading skeptics, expanding on themes introduced in his first book. Central is a defense of his "outsider test of faith," arguing that believers should test their faith with the same skeptical standards they use to evaluate the other faiths they reject, as if they were outsiders. Experts in medicine, psychology, and anthropology join Loftus to show why, when this test is applied to Christianity, it becomes very difficult to rationally defend. Collectively, these articles reveal that popular Christian beliefs tend to rely on ignorance of the facts. Drawing together experts in diverse fields, including Hector Avalos, Richard Carrier, David Eller, and Robert Price, this book deals a powerful blow against Christian faith.

Merger Delusion How Swallowing Its Suburbs Made an Even Bigger Mess of Montreal【電子書籍】[ Peter F. Trent ]

Powerless under the country's constitution, Canadian municipal governments often find themselves in conflict with their provincial masters. In 2002, the Province of Quebec forcibly merged all cities on the Island of Montreal into a single municipality - a decision that was partially reversed in 2006. The first book-length study of the series of mergers imposed by the Parti Qu?b?cois government, The Merger Delusion is a sharp and insightful critique by a key player in anti-merger politics. Peter Trent, mayor of the City of Westmount, Quebec, foresaw the numerous financial and institutional problems posed by amalgamating municipalities into megacities. Here, he presents a stirring and detailed account of the battle he led against the provincial government, the City of Montreal, the Board of Trade, and many of his former colleagues. Describing how he took the struggle all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, Trent demonstrates the ways in which de-mergers resonated with voters and eventually helped the Quebec Liberal Party win the 2003 provincial election. As the cost and pitfalls of forced mergers become clearer in hindsight, The Merger Delusion recounts a compelling case study with broad implications for cities across the globe.

When you look into the mirror, what do you see? Do you see a true reflection of reality? Is the image in the mirror really you, or is it a strangely inverted facsimile? What if it were possible for the image in the mirror to climb out and enter this world of ours? Even more frightening, what if the image in the mirrorーthe inverted image of youーcould drag you into the world of the mirror itself? This happens to Detective Maxwell of the Chicago Police Department. The Witchcraft Delusion in New England: Its Rise, Progress, and Termination (Complete)【電子書籍】[ Robert Calef & Cotton Mather ]

At first, Voices against Witchcraft were faint and few. Such was the Bewilderment of the human Mind in early Ages that Men hardly dared to think in Opposition to the Superstitions of the Multitude. Yet there were always some who doubted the delegated Power of the Devil, though they were not often lavish enough of their own Safety to let their Disbelief be known. Still, there are, no Doubt, some "dark Corners of the Earth" where it would not be entirely safe for one to declare publicly that there is no such Matter as Witchcraft. Nor is this so much to be wondered at, when, at the present Day, and in a Portion of our own Country, a Man cannot speak against Slavery, but at the Peril of his Life. This is no new Aspect growing out of the present Rebellion, but it has been thus many Years. Few Men dared to speak boldly against the Existence of Witchcraft before the Year 1700. Though they disbelieved in it they were afraid to attack it. They began by endeavouring to show the Insufficiency of the Evidence relied upon in particular Cases. In this Way, Frauds were detected and exposed, and the Eyes of Judges were opened. Among the early and successful Combatants of Witchcraft in England was Sir Robert Filmer. This Gentleman, though he out-went Machiavel himself in Arguments to uphold Despotism, yet he entered a pretty effectual Demurrer against the Prerogative of the Devil, as attempted to be manifested in the Persons of aged Matrons. Lancashire was distinguished above all other Counties in England in Sir Robert's Time for its Production of Witches; but when his native County, Kent, was scourged by the imaginary Arts of Satan, he thought it Time to make a public Declaration of his Views in Regard to the Nature of the Evidence made Use of for the Conviction of Witches. He therefore prepared a Treatise which he entitled "An Advertisement to the Jury-men of England, touching Witches," printed in 1680, but whether it was ever printed before does not appear from this Impression. In this Work he criticises the Productions of some of the prominent Authors in Favor of Witchcraft with much Ability.

Delusion and Dream: An Interpretation in the Light of Psychoanalysis of Gradiva【電子書籍】[ Sigmund Freud & Wilhelm Jensen ]

In a circle of men who take it for granted that the basic riddle of the dream has been solved by the efforts of the present writer's curiosity was aroused one day concerning those dreams which have never been dreamed, those created by authors, and attributed to fictitious characters in their productions. The proposal to submit this kind of dream to investigation might appear idle and strange; but from one view-point it could be considered justifiable. It is, to be sure, not at all generally believed that the dreamer dreams something senseful and significant. Science and the majority of educated people smile when one offers them the task of interpreting dreams. Only people still clinging to superstition, who give continuity, thereby, to the convictions of the ancients, will not refrain from interpreting dreams, and the writer of Traumdeutung has dared, against the protests of orthodox science, to take sides with the ancients and superstitious. He is, of course, far from accepting in dreams a prevision of the future, for the disclosure of which man has, from time immemorial, striven vainly. He could not, however, completely reject the connections of dreams with the future, for, after completing some arduous analysis, the dreams seemed to him to represent the fulfilment of a wish of the dreamer; and who could dispute that wishes are preponderantly concerned with the future? I have just said that the dream is a fulfilled wish. Whoever is not afraid to toil through a difficult book, whoever does not demand that a complicated problem be insincerely and untruthfully presented to him as easy and simple, to save his own effort, may seek in the above-mentioned Traumdeutung ample proof of this statement, and may, until then, cast aside the objection that will surely be expressed against the equivalence of dreams and wish-fulfilment.

The Darwinian Delusion The Scientific Myth Of Evolutionism【電子書籍】[ Michael Ebifegha ]

Pseudoscience Advocates Darwinism

Whereas

Science Endorses Anti-Darwinism

Darwin's theory of evolution, which asserts that new species are formed gradually through competition, is being challenged as empirical studies show that new species are, instead, produced rapidly through cooperation. In other words, the mechanism set forth in Darwin's theory are not the ones that result in the development of new species. The damning evidence against Darwinism is laid out in multiple scientific books such as What Darwin Got Wrong (2010) by the atheists Jerry Fodor and Massimo Piattelli-Palmarini, and Evolution: Still a Theory in Crisis (2016) by the agnostic Michael Denton. New Scientist magazine's headline "Darwin Was Wrong: Cutting Down the Tree of Life." in its January 24-30, 2009 issue, (marking the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth) represents the overwhelming scientific truth.

Thus, whereas Darwinism requires missing links that have never been found, the empirical evidence invalidates the need for missing links. Darwinism predicts numerous intermediate varieties, and its adherents blame the imperfection of the geological record for our inability to find them. Anti-Darwinism, on the contrary, predicts the absence of intermediate types, which is consistent with observations today. Darwinists posit that most of our DNA is inconsequential or junk, but anti-Darwinists assert that there is no junk DNA, a claim that aligns with damning scientific data.

Considering the aforementioned, Michael Ebifegha contends that Darwinism is broken beyond repair, but it has not been as readily or easily abandoned like other disproven scientific theories because it is a delusion.
