Hippie Dictionary A Cultural Encyclopedia of the 1960s and 1970s【電子書籍】[ John Bassett Mccleary ]

Whether you lived through the sixties and seventies or just wish you had, this revised and expanded edition of the Hippie Dictionary entertains as much as it educates.

Cultural and political listings such as "Age of Aquarius," "Ceasar Chavez," and "Black Power Movement," plus popular phrases like "acid flashback," "get a grip," and "are you for real?" will remind you of how revolutionary those 20 years were.

Although the hippie era spans two decades beginning with the approval of the birth control pill in 1960 and ending with the death of John Lennon in 1980, it wasn't all about sex, drugs, and rock'n' roll. These were the early years of pro-ecology and anti-capitalist beliefs-beliefs that are just as timely as ever. So kick back and trip out on the new entries as well as the old, and discover why some are dubbing the sixties and seventies "the intellectual renaissance of the 20th century."

Buddha, Jesus and the Hippie【電子書籍】[ Ken Albertsen ]

Plot overview: The text is in four sections, the first and third sections comprise dialogue between the three men mentioned in the title: Buddha, Jesus and the hippie. The setting is upstate New York, 1969. More precisely, the story takes place on Yasgur's farm, about a mile from the outdoor stage of the Woodstock Music Festival while it's in full swing. The second quarter of the text revolves around the Buddha and Jesus characters, as they split to explore the outlying region on their own. The hippie stays on the hill, alone. Jesus and Buddha have both decided to be silent, so as to not create a stir among people they encounter. They don't want to be identified, and prefer to be incognito observers.

Soon after setting off toward the festival, the two become separated from each other. Ensuing pages articulate their disparate experiences as they interact with various people and scenarios, while maintaining their vows of silence. The Third quarter of the text has the three men meeting up again while continuing to discuss philosophy, do-wop, dakinis, mantras, biology, and several other topics with the hippie. The closing quarter of the text showcases the author's philosophy. In several ways, it furthers the discussions of the three philosophers on the hill while comparing religious leanings with ideas of non-deist beliefs. One recurrent theme is the concept that atheism is not 'belief in nothing,' but rather is; 'belief in science and nature,' which can be every bit as fascinating as beliefs in God.

Takilma Tales The Hippie History of Takilma, Oregon【電子書籍】[ Susanne Kindi Fahrnkopf ]

Takilma Tales: The Hippie History of Takilma, Oregon, explores the evolution of a small village near the former town of Waldo; a Gold Rush ghost town, in remote Southwest Oregon. In the 60s and 70s, young hippies flocked to the run-down mining and logging town of Takilma on the edge of the Siskiyou Mountains, which straddle the border between California and Oregon. In that wilderness, the hippies transformed the small town, and with hard work and dedication, they created an intentional community, with its own medical clinic, community building, alternative school and food co-operative. This is a collection of stories from Takilma residents and a loose compilation of the history of the place, from Natives to Nowadays; in the words of many of its founding members. The author, herself a resident of Takilma for over 33 years, takes the reader on a fascinating account woven of the memories of numerous free-thinking, New-Age, back-to-the-land people who still reside there. Punch Your Inner Hippie Cut Your Hair, Get a Job, and Make America Awesome Again【電子書籍】[ Frank J. Fleming ]

The author of the e-books Obama: The Greatest President in the History of Everything and How to Fix Everything in America Forever explains how Americans can finally overcome the insidious legacy of the 1960s.

As Frank J. Fleming reveals in this delightfully sarcastic self-help book, every American has a little hippie inside, preaching free love and poor hygiene, and keeping him from achieving his full potential. It’s a relic from the 1960s, kept alive in acid flashbacks and pop culture, which affects decision-making in unconscious ways. The only solution is to punch that inner hippie as hard and as often as possible.

Punch Your Inner Hippie hilariously explains how to understand and defeat your inner hippie. Fleming looks back at history to describe all of the civilizations ruined by hippies and to warn of the destruction in store for the U.S. if they are not stopped. He reveals the symptoms of hippie-ism, from laziness and dependence to whining and protesting, so you can gauge the strength of your own inner hippie.

Fleming also shows you how to beat your inner hippie by constructing a tank of awesome out of the four parts of being awesome: Independence, Gratitude, Ambition, and Confidence. If you punch your inner hippie every day, it will eventually be too broken and defeated to move, and you will finally become as awesome as America.

In Search of the Lost Chord: 1967 and the Hippie Idea【電子書籍】[ Danny Goldberg ]

This paperback edition of Goldberg’s highly acclaimed homage to 1967 includes a new afterword and twenty beautiful and evocative photographs.

“Antiwar radicals, recoiling from soullessness, challenged the church of technocratic rationality. Taking this challenge seriously, recovering the mood of an extended moment, requires beginning earlier and ending later than 1968. Cultural upheaval cannot be confined by the calendar. At least one contribution to the literature, the music industry executive Danny Goldberg’s In Search of the Lost Chord, treats 1967 as the defining moment when ‘the hippie idea’ still held transformational promise, and countercultural protest had not yet succumbed to police violence, undercover provocateurs, or media caricatureーwhile 1968, in contrast, was a dark time of assassinations, riots, and the resurgence of the right.” ーNew York Review of Books

“[Goldberg’s] newest book, In Search of the Lost Chord: 1967 and the Hippie Idea, explores and fuses together the musical, political, and spiritual revolutions of the time into a narrative about a moment when ‘there was an instant sense of tribal intimacy one could have even with a stranger.'” ーRolling Stone

In Search of the Lost Chord is a subjective history of 1967, the year Danny Goldberg graduated from high school. It is also a refreshing and new analysis of the era; by looking at not only the political causes, but also the spiritual, musical, and psychedelic movements, Goldberg provides a unique perspective on how and why the legacy of 1967 lives on today.

1967 was the year of the release of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and of debut albums from the Doors, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin, among many others. 1967 was also the year of the Summer of Love; the year that millions of now-illegal LSD tabs flooded America; Muhammad Ali was convicted of avoiding the draft; Martin Luther King Jr. publicly opposed the war in Vietnam; Stokely Carmichael championed Black Power; Israel won the Six-Day War; and Che Guevara was murdered. It was the year that hundreds of thousands of protesters vainly attempted to levitate the Pentagon. It was the year the word “hippie” peaked and died, and the Yippies were born.

Exhaustively researched and informed by interviews and conversations with Allen Ginsberg, Timothy Leary, Ram Dass, Tom Hayden, Cora Weiss, Grace Slick, and others, In Search of the Lost Chord is a mosaic of seminal moments in the psychedelic, spiritual, rock-and-roll, and political protest cultures of 1967.

This paperback edition includes a brand-new afterword by the author, along with twenty photographs by Peter Simon.

A Letter to my Grandson is written to the world from the viewpoint of a successful grandfather who sees strong character qualities lacking in the world today. Myers writes about things like living with integrity, courage, and happiness that are not related to the biggest house, fastest car, or largest bank accounts. Chapter titles like: Any job worth doing is worth doing well; To know love, know yourself; Integrity is worth a fortune, but costs only five cents are anecdotal lessons that he hopes not only will serve his grandson Ian well, but also other sons and grandsons as well. G. Spencer Myers is a man on a mission to encourage others to live with respect for themselves, the earth, and those who share the planet with them. He has been a self-made millionaire and he's been nearly broke. He's made good decisions and others he might not do again. His straight-from the- hip style makes the reading easy and the lessons memorable. Bom Bom - A Wacky Hippie Trail Adventure A Wacky Hippie Trail Adventure【電子書籍】[ Mark A Tesoriero ]

Mark Tesoriero commences his tale by recounting his early years. He provides a wonderful snapshot of a youthful counter culture in Australia and the need to escape to explore a much bigger world. With his closest friend Pedro and a big bag of marijuana they set off by steamship across the Pacific and party hop their way to London where they experience the swinging "seventies" and embark on a three month long campervan trip around Europe. All the while gathering sparse information on the overland trip from Greece to Asia. Their journey commences aboard the ferry to Greece, where they meet three Americans, Olga, Ryan and Troy, who are about to embark on the same journey. They decide to travel together. Mark and Olga fall in love, and the others have each other's backs on what is to become a sometimes dangerous journey. They then train and bus their way across Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mark, Olga and Pedro arrive in India and take the dangerous road route to Kashmir where they hang on a houseboat whiling away the days smoking water pipes. Back in India they visit the Dalai Lama's foothills ashram, before bussing it to Delhi and the Taj Mahal. With the summer heat they take a flight to the cooler climate of Kathmandu and for a month enjoy the hippie scene on Freak Street. A flight to Bangkok then sets them squarely in the bustle of Asia where Pedro plans his flight back to Sydney, while Mark and Olga head to Laos for a few weeks to plan their next step to Japan where they hope to teach English to replenish their almost non existent cash reserves. They land in Tokyo, with two days funds. Next day they run straight into an entertainment agent looking for dancers. The dancing turns out to be a live sex show and with reluctance they accept the offer and embark on ninety straight days of 4-6 shows-a-day craziness. After three months they are spent and with nearly $40,000 in a carry bag they quit the circuit and retrace their steps to Laos. Heady opium nilled days follow and a month later they depart for beautiful Kathmandu. Mark longs to see his family and decides to do a quick side trip home for Christmas. Olga is very understanding and agrees to catch up again in Madras in January. The trip home is a great chance to catch up and party but very quickly it's time to get back on the plane to India. When Mark arrives in India there is no Olga. His heart sinks, so he heads to southern India, a vast place where there are very few travellers. It's a head trip as he comes to grips with the loss of Olga and being alone. He considers his next step and decides to go to Sri Lanka where he hears there's surf. In the quiet seaside town of Hikkadua, Mark meets new friends and spend three months in idyllic bliss and eventually leaves Sri Lanka with English friends (John and Michelle) in an old ambulance to travel up the east coast of India to Darjeerling and Kathmandu. The trip is handicapped by John's driving in a completely opiated state and Mark's wild nights trying to sleep by the roadside in the slums, mountains and jungle. Back in Kathmandu he says good bye to his English friends who want him to travel on to Europe, and instead plans to head back home to Sydney. While waiting he catches up with a Nepalese friend who offers him hash oil to take back home and Mark stupidly takes on the consignment. His flight back home is interrupted with a forced overnight stop over in Bangkok where he has to move in and out of customs, but eventually finds himself seated on a Qantas Flight to Sydney rehearsing his next encounter.
