The Hippie Hitchhiker from Nebraska【電子書籍】[ Randy Rhody ]
|

In a story arc of loss, exile, and self-reliance, here a roadside view of a lost America never glimpsed by historians, journalists, or celebrities.

In 1966, a teenager dreams of finding ultimate wisdom and writing timeless poetry. Horrified by the likelihood of combat service in Vietnam, he embarks on a hitchhiking journey to evade the military draft. He becomes a homeless drifter estranged from family, and finds brief notoriety as a vagabond poet, followed by publishing success, before careening beyond the limits of language.

Over the course of 22,000 reckless miles he experiences a Sixties history long overlooked: Wells Street in Chicago's Old Town, the mimeograph-revolution waged by Cleveland poets, an outlaw Route 66, the San Francisco Diggers serving daily meals, the Central Park Easter Be-In, a head shop at the epicenter of St Marks Place in the East Village, and the travesty of post-Summer-of-Love Haight-Ashbury.

A Letter to My Grandson Lessons of a Post-War, Hippie-Sympathizing, Eco-Friendly Entrepreneur【電子書籍】[ G. Spencer Myers ]

|

A Letter to my Grandson is written to the world from the viewpoint of a successful grandfather who sees strong character qualities lacking in the world today. Myers writes about things like living with integrity, courage, and happiness that are not related to the biggest house, fastest car, or largest bank accounts. Chapter titles like: Any job worth doing is worth doing well; To know love, know yourself; Integrity is worth a fortune, but costs only five cents are anecdotal lessons that he hopes not only will serve his grandson Ian well, but also other sons and grandsons as well. G. Spencer Myers is a man on a mission to encourage others to live with respect for themselves, the earth, and those who share the planet with them. He has been a self-made millionaire and he's been nearly broke. He's made good decisions and others he might not do again. His straight-from the- hip style makes the reading easy and the lessons memorable. A great read for anyone age 18-80!

Bom Bom - A Wacky Hippie Trail Adventure A Wacky Hippie Trail Adventure【電子書籍】[ Mark A Tesoriero ]
|

Mark Tesoriero commences his tale by recounting his early years. He provides a wonderful snapshot of a youthful counter culture in Australia and the need to escape to explore a much bigger world. With his closest friend Pedro and a big bag of marijuana they set off by steamship across the Pacific and party hop their way to London where they experience the swinging "seventies" and embark on a three month long campervan trip around Europe. All the while gathering sparse information on the overland trip from Greece to Asia. Their journey commences aboard the ferry to Greece, where they meet three Americans, Olga, Ryan and Troy, who are about to embark on the same journey. They decide to travel together. Mark and Olga fall in love, and the others have each other's backs on what is to become a sometimes dangerous journey. They then train and bus their way across Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mark, Olga and Pedro arrive in India and take the dangerous road route to Kashmir where they hang on a houseboat whiling away the days smoking water pipes. Back in India they visit the Dalai Lama's foothills ashram, before bussing it to Delhi and the Taj Mahal. With the summer heat they take a flight to the cooler climate of Kathmandu and for a month enjoy the hippie scene on Freak Street. A flight to Bangkok then sets them squarely in the bustle of Asia where Pedro plans his flight back to Sydney, while Mark and Olga head to Laos for a few weeks to plan their next step to Japan where they hope to teach English to replenish their almost non existent cash reserves. They land in Tokyo, with two days funds. Next day they run straight into an entertainment agent looking for dancers. The dancing turns out to be a live sex show and with reluctance they accept the offer and embark on ninety straight days of 4-6 shows-a-day craziness. After three months they are spent and with nearly $40,000 in a carry bag they quit the circuit and retrace their steps to Laos. Heady opium nilled days follow and a month later they depart for beautiful Kathmandu. Mark longs to see his family and decides to do a quick side trip home for Christmas. Olga is very understanding and agrees to catch up again in Madras in January. The trip home is a great chance to catch up and party but very quickly it's time to get back on the plane to India. When Mark arrives in India there is no Olga. His heart sinks, so he heads to southern India, a vast place where there are very few travellers. It's a head trip as he comes to grips with the loss of Olga and being alone. He considers his next step and decides to go to Sri Lanka where he hears there's surf. In the quiet seaside town of Hikkadua, Mark meets new friends and spend three months in idyllic bliss and eventually leaves Sri Lanka with English friends (John and Michelle) in an old ambulance to travel up the east coast of India to Darjeerling and Kathmandu. The trip is handicapped by John's driving in a completely opiated state and Mark's wild nights trying to sleep by the roadside in the slums, mountains and jungle. Back in Kathmandu he says good bye to his English friends who want him to travel on to Europe, and instead plans to head back home to Sydney. While waiting he catches up with a Nepalese friend who offers him hash oil to take back home and Mark stupidly takes on the consignment. His flight back home is interrupted with a forced overnight stop over in Bangkok where he has to move in and out of customs, but eventually finds himself seated on a Qantas Flight to Sydney rehearsing his next encounter.

The Security Hippie【電子書籍】[ Barak Engel ]

|

The Security Hippie is Barak Engel’s second book. As the originator of the “Virtual CISO” (fractional security chief) concept, he has served as security leader in dozens of notable organizations, such as Mulesoft, Stubhub, Amplitude Analytics, and many others. The Security Hippie follows his previous book, Why CISOs Fail, which became a sleeper hit, earning a spot in the Cybercannon project as a leading text on the topic of information security management.

In this new book, Barak looks at security purely through the lens of story-telling, sharing many and varied experiences from his long and accomplished career as organizational and thought leader, and visionary in the information security field. Instead of instructing, this book teaches by example, sharing many real situations in the field and actual events from real companies, as well as Barak’s related takes and thought processes.

An out-of-the-mainstream, counterculture thinker ? Hippie ? in the world of information security, Barak’s rich background and unusual approach to the field come forth in this book in vivid color and detail, allowing the reader to sit back and enjoy these experiences, and perhaps gain insights when faced with similar issues themselves or within their organizations. The author works hard to avoid technical terms as much as possible, and instead focus on the human and behavioral side of security, finding the humor inherent in every anecdote and using it to demystify the field and connect with the reader.

Importantly, these are not the stories that made the news; yet they are the ones that happen all the time. If you’ve ever wondered about the field of information security, but have been intimidated by it, or simply wished for more shared experiences, then The Security Hippie is the perfect way to open that window by accompanying Barak on some of his many travels into the land of security.

In the press, on the radio, in the cinema and in books, a lot has been said of the hippie adventure, and a lot still needs to be said. On the famous Silk Road through Turkey and ancient Persia, young people drop out of their bourgeois background to conquer paradises of ancient India.

The stories told are always romanticized or second-hand accounts. But here, a young girl tells without justification or glorification, in all its humorous, sometimes dramatic, sometimes exhilarating truth, this adventure which represents her absolute quest.

Brigitte Axel is a writer, she knows how to observe and describe. The result is a passionate living document, and a story that the reader will feel a part of.

Part of the "bohemian hippie" movement in the 1960s and 70s, Brigitte left her cosmopolitan home in Belgium as a teenager to travel and experience the world during a time of great change.

To the Roof of the World documents Brigitte's experiences travelling as a young woman in the 1960s, often alone or with other young hippies. Between attending a prestigious art school in Brussels and getting deported from Kathmandu, Brigitte retells each story with colourful language and extensive imagery.

Me. And Me Now: A 1970s Kiwi Hippie Trail Adventure【電子書籍】[ Alan Samson ]
|

Me. And me now is an extraordinary travel memoir about the early 1970s' "hippie trail" across Asia ? a story not just of exotic places but an emerging era for the world's youth marked by unprecedented freedoms, escapism and experimentation. Author Alan Samson, a retired journalist and journalism lecturer from New Zealand, was in his early 20s when he began a two-year adventure along the trail, from Singapore to the jungles of Borneo, Bali to Burma, war-torn Cambodia to the majestic Himalayas, spiritual India to hippie-haven Afghanistan. His story captures the essence of the times, the places and the politics, as well as epitomising the "big adventure" for a young foreigner seeking to learn more about the world and, through that, himself.
As Vietnam and other regional conflicts escalated into the 1970s, the whole region was on a knife's edge. And with fledgling television exponentially increasing its reach around the world, many of the conflicts began to be noticed in living rooms to an extent that could barely have been imagined even a few years earlier. Unsurprisingly, these years also saw a burgeoning of idealism among the world's youth, they too becoming the news as the cameras focused on enthusiastic anti-war demonstrations as far afield as America, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Whether Americans dodging compulsory draft call-ups, or numerous others from all over the so-called West taking advantage of personal freedoms emerged out of the "swinging sixties", the result was a mass migration of young travellers. Wandering what became known as the "hippie trail", beginning from the southern hemisphere or the northern, but invariably landing in South and Southeast Asia, many styled themselves as "hippies" or "freaks". Even if they did not label themselves in that manner, their apparent loose lifestyles cemented the perception within astounded local populations. Caught up in the maelstrom, the author pursued the path of the many, tramping war zones, immersing himself in the region's religions, at the same time eating and smoking his way along the trail as far as Afghanistan before sickness had him abruptly homeward bound. For anyone wanting to understand the times and the context of a turbulent but exhilarating era, this articulate account of search and discovery, is a must read.

I Did Inhale ー Memoir of a Hippie Chick【電子書籍】[ W. M. Raebeck ]
|

**"WHEN LIFE WAS USER-FRIENDLY AND THE SKY REALLY WAS THE LIMIT"
(review quote)

In this chronicle about life on the hippie trail, W. M. Raebeck provides a funky flashback to what now seems an easier era. Through her marginal feats and misadventures, you'll always be siding with the bad guy. Questionable conduct here takes a back seat to innocence, naivete, rites of passage, and even desperation. The author's exploits reveal, too, that perennial determination of the youngーevery generation's instinct to define itself and its time.

In a kaleidoscope of back roads, airplanes, boats, and trains, this is a sometimes funny, sometimes edgy story of a bold young woman finding her way through life and love. Packed with punchy dialogue, outlandish schemes, and eclectic love affairs, this could only be that one breathless moment of historyーnow fading into our pastーthat is great fun to revisit.

Boomers will grok these free-wheelin' recollections of long-haired days when hitch-hikers had to wait their turn for space on the on-ramp. And readers of every age will be reminded that the youthful spirit is timeless, and harrowing ordeals are just bends in the road.

Hippie freaks, where are you now?**

Hippie Voices to God’s Heart Calvary Chapel Encounters God【電子書籍】[ David L. Ream ]
|

Here is a phenomenological inquiry into the fruitful ministry of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa's Sunday Morning Worship Service. The purpose was to uncover and explicate the quintessential elements of worship leading from the life experiences of those worship leaders who shared the platform with Pastor Chuck Smith, known as the father of the Jesus Movement. The book examines Calvary Chapel's inauspicious beginnings in a senior citizen trailer park recreation center as it explores key elements of Kay and Chuck Smith's ministry. The church and the couple combined in 1965. By 1968, the church and the Smiths became a spiritual home replete with a spiritual mama and papa, ministering to hippies seeking everlasting love and eternal peace. The fruitfulness of Calvary Chapel's ministry is its ability to reproduce maturing Christians that reproduce maturing Christians. This replication occurred thousands of times as the movement blossomed and spread to new churches and new ministries across the United States and globally. The phenomenon spawned a megachurch movement and birthed the modern Christian worship music industry. The hippies were alternately loathed and loved in their era. Perhaps the hippies' most enduring and endearing contributions to twenty-first-century culture are traced to the Jesus movement.

Confessions of a Hippie Always Searching for Love【電子書籍】[ Adriana Bardolino ]
|

Adriana is a young woman in her twenties navigating her way through the counterculture during the late sixties and early seventies. It’s a virtual roller-coaster ride of events and emotions that often blur the lines between her present life and her past. At the beginning, she is torn between her communal family and her nuclear family. She is swept up in the politics of the dayーfree speech, the peace movement, free love, and communal living. Psychedelics, music, books, mysticism, and the people she meets along the way open her mind to her relationship to nature and the universe itself, as well as her place in it. She questions everything about life. She chooses to see her relationships, loves, and life events in a very metaphysical way, sometimes even ethereally. Perhaps, if you lived through that era, you will see some of yourself in her. If not, you will learn something about the young people who did.

A Gonzo-style adventure written from the perspective of an outsider living in a hippie environment at the peak of the hippie movement. It is a hilarious and sometimes horrifying account of days gone by. With a tip of the hat to other Gonzo writers. Sort of a prelude to Hell's Angels with a mix of Fear and Loathing in Elko. In Search of the Lost Chord 1967 and the Hippie Idea【電子書籍】[ Danny Goldberg ]

This paperback edition of Goldberg’s highly acclaimed homage to 1967 includes a new afterword and twenty beautiful and evocative photographs.

“Antiwar radicals, recoiling from soullessness, challenged the church of technocratic rationality. Taking this challenge seriously, recovering the mood of an extended moment, requires beginning earlier and ending later than 1968. Cultural upheaval cannot be confined by the calendar. At least one contribution to the literature, the music industry executive Danny Goldberg’s In Search of the Lost Chord, treats 1967 as the defining moment when ‘the hippie idea’ still held transformational promise, and countercultural protest had not yet succumbed to police violence, undercover provocateurs, or media caricatureーwhile 1968, in contrast, was a dark time of assassinations, riots, and the resurgence of the right.” ーNew York Review of Books

“[Goldberg’s] newest book, In Search of the Lost Chord: 1967 and the Hippie Idea, explores and fuses together the musical, political, and spiritual revolutions of the time into a narrative about a moment when ‘there was an instant sense of tribal intimacy one could have even with a stranger.'” ーRolling Stone

In Search of the Lost Chord is a subjective history of 1967, the year Danny Goldberg graduated from high school. It is also a refreshing and new analysis of the era; by looking at not only the political causes, but also the spiritual, musical, and psychedelic movements, Goldberg provides a unique perspective on how and why the legacy of 1967 lives on today.

1967 was the year of the release of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and of debut albums from the Doors, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin, among many others. 1967 was also the year of the Summer of Love; the year that millions of now-illegal LSD tabs flooded America; Muhammad Ali was convicted of avoiding the draft; Martin Luther King Jr. publicly opposed the war in Vietnam; Stokely Carmichael championed Black Power; Israel won the Six-Day War; and Che Guevara was murdered. It was the year that hundreds of thousands of protesters vainly attempted to levitate the Pentagon. It was the year the word “hippie” peaked and died, and the Yippies were born.

Exhaustively researched and informed by interviews and conversations with Allen Ginsberg, Timothy Leary, Ram Dass, Tom Hayden, Cora Weiss, Grace Slick, and others, In Search of the Lost Chord is a mosaic of seminal moments in the psychedelic, spiritual, rock-and-roll, and political protest cultures of 1967.

This paperback edition includes a brand-new afterword by the author, along with twenty photographs by Peter Simon.

- Tu as entendu ?
- Non.
Quinn.

We Are Playing Roulette with Your Future Lessons of a Post-War, Hippie-sympathizing, Eco-friendly Entrepreneur【電子書籍】[ G. Spencer Myers ]
|

In WE ARE PLAYING ROULETTE WITH YOUR FUTURE G. Spencer Myers tells Ian, his grandson, and Ian's generation that, among the lessons he learned over his lifetime, the one about ecology he learned from his grandfather while fishing from a small row boat was actually a warning. A warning that has evolved into a threat to humanity so great that scientists have given it a name: The Anthropocene --- a human caused extinction. There have been five others. The last one, 65 million years ago, was responsible for killing the dinosaurs who ruled the planet for millions of years.

"When I was in my thirties, I wanted to live to be 100," Myers tells Ian and outlines his path to get there. He shares humorous stories about running away from home, his first tattoo, the biggest fish he ever caught, pitching a no-hitter, earning an MBA, achieving a six-figure income and writing three books. All intended to be inspirations for Ian and all grandsons who will face the inevitable pitfalls and setbacks of life. "Happiness is a choice," he says. Then he apologizes, "Unfortunately we have become addicted to the pesticides, plastics and fossil fuels that I fear will deprive you of such a future."
