Of Clay!", "Sings Movie Memories", "Tower Of Strength", and "Hit After Hit". Foy Willing, who hailed from Texas, landed up in California in the early '40s and became popular on radio, forming the band around the same time. With their screen commitments they did not record prolifically, but had five country hits through the second half of the 1940s. This 48-track 2-CD set comprises most of the A & B sides of their releases on the Capitol, Decca, Majestic, Varsity and Columbia labels during this era, including a release with the orchestra of Louis Prima. It features all their career chart entries including the No. 3 country hit "Texas Blues", the No. 4 hit "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" and the No. 6 hit "Detour" along with the Top 20 hits "Anytime" and "Brush Those Tears From Your Eyes". Noted for their fine vocal harmonies, their style reflected their Hollywood outlook, with more then a hint of western swing about it, even though they recorded many songs by top Nashville writers. He was seen, and signed, by Dootsie Williams of Dootone Records, for whom he released a string of highly-successful 'live' albums. He later had a successful TV career, starring in the situation comedy "Sanford & Son", with overt racial humour that helped redefine the genre of black situation comedy. This 3-CD collection of selected live recordings from his early years with Dootone features the entire "Laff Of The Party Vol. 1" album, a number of tracks from his "Best Of" album culled from other "Laff Of The Party" volumes, plus the complete "Burlesque Humour", "Side Splitter Vols 1 & 2" and "Sly Sex" albums, along with one side of the album "Have One On Me". Also included are a couple of his early singles for Savoy when he was a jump blues singer. Moving from Florida to Chicago in the 1920s, he started recording in 1928 with Thomas Dorsey, playing in a hokum style as well as blues, over the years incorporating a pop-oriented style with The Chicago Five. Playing electric guitar from the 1940s working with Big Maceo Merriweather, he influenced musicians like Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters and Elmore James, as his Chicago home became a centre for the blues community. This great-value 121-track 5-CD set comprises selected recordings from the 300 and more titles he released during this era on the Vocalion, Bluebird & RCA-Victor labels, as Tampa Red, Tampa Red & Georgia Tom, Tampa Red's Hokum Jug Band and Tampa Red And The Chicago Five, referred to on many of his record labels as "The Guitar Wizard".
