They stayed true to their unalloyed country style, making few concessions to the commercial honky-tonk and New Nashville developments during the 1950s, but as stalwarts on West Virginia's rival to the Grand Ole Opry "The WWVA Jamboree, still managed to achieve a run of hits in the late 1950s and into the early '60s, defying the trends in the wider pop music market. This great-value 58-track 2-CD set comprises at least one side from most of their releases on the Rich-R-Tone and Columbia labels, along with most of their A & B sides from their singles for the Hickory label from this era. It features all their career chart entries, including the Top 10 country hits "Come Walk With Me", "Big Midnight Special", "There's A Big Wheel" and "Wreck On The Highway", plus their Top 20 country hits with country/pop crossover songs like "Johnny My Love" and "This Ole House". They were a highly distinctive act, occupying a particular niche on the country scene, and this selection of their recordings is a worthy showcase for their style. 3,290円

Moving to California in 1951 to take over from The Andrews Sisters on CBS, she started recording for Capitol the same year, performing in a style that was typical of what was often called "the golden age of popular music" during the early '50s, and was popular on TV, hosting her own NBC variety show, as well as being a regular with Jack Benny and Mario Lanza on their radio shows. She had the benefit of being accompanied on record by some of the finest arranger/conductors of the era, including Billy May, Nelson Riddle, Buddy Cole, Dave Cavanaugh, Sid Bass and Shorty Rogers. She had her biggest hit in 1955, making No. 4 with "Hard To Get". This great-value 58-track 2-CD set comprises most of her A & B sides from these years on the Capitol, "X", Vik and RCA-Victor labels during these years, and features all her career chart entries including the US No. 4 "Hard To Get" and No. 11 "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes", and the UK No. 6 "Seven Lonely Days". She was a songstress who was very much of her era, and this collection offers a substantial and reasonably comprehensive overview of the key period of her career and is an enjoyable showcase for her talents as a vocal stylist. 3,290円

The music of the MJQ was in many ways the culmination of the development of Lewis' musical ideas during the five years and more of his professional career before that quartet came together, as he worked with some of the most influential and notable names in jazz during the bebop era. Classically-trained as a child, he met drummer Kenny Clarke while serving in WWII, and after the war successfully auditioned for Dizzy Gillespie's orchestra in 1945. This great-value 75-track 3-CD set comprises recordings made over the next six years or so with ensembles led by Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Milt Jackson, Illinois Jacquet, J.J. Johnson, Lester Young, and Zoot Sims, which included landmark sessions that were, without exaggeration, among the most significant in the entire history of modern jazz. As well as those leaders, it includes performances alongside musicians like Max Roach, Kenny Clarke, Ray Brown, Sonny Rollins, Chano Pozo, Kai Winding, Sonny Stitt, Curly Russell, Lee Konitz, Jo Jones, Percy Heath and many more. Lewis' contributions to these recordings as sideman and accompanist are rarely the most prominent element of the performances, but they underline his legendarily understated but masterful approach to the music.John Lewis was a jazz pianist best-known for his work as founder member and musical director of the Modern Jazz Quartet, famous for blending elements of classical music with individual and ensemble improvisation in a refined chamber style of jazz. After signing to RCA in 1949, their producer suggested developing their style by recording parodies of well-known pop and country hits, and they immediately struck a chord with their re-working of composer Frank Loesser's "Baby, It's Cold Outside". Over the next dozen years or so they remained consistently popular on radio and TV with this approach, and focused much of their recorded output in this direction. Although his chart career was not as long as that of some of his peers, he nevertheless racked up nearly forty hits between his debut in 1936 and 1943, when the American Federation of Musicians recording ban seriously affected his career momentum, although he continued recording and performing into the 1960s. This excellent-value 50-track 2-CD set comprises selected A & B sides of his releases on the Bluebird label from this era, and features all his 38 career hits, including the No. 1s "Did I Remember?", "In The Chapel In The Moonlight", "That Old Feeling", "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down", "Thanks For The Memory", "Cathedral In The Pines" and "South Of The Border", with most of the recordings including performances by one of his featured vocalists Bob Goday, Charles Chester, Dick Robertson, Hal Derwin, Dorothy Allen, Sonny Washburn, Ken Curtis and Ralph Young. The collection offers a substantial and entertaining showcase for the sound and style that brought him success, and which was very much part of the musical zeitgeist of the era.Shep Fields, born Saul Feldman in Brooklyn in 1910, led one of the many highly successful "sweet" music orchestras of the 1930s, popular both on radio, in ballrooms and on record, and developing a trademark sound and style which he called his "Rippling Rhythm" that helped set him apart from other bands. 2022/3/4 発売輸入盤レーベル: ACROBAT収録曲:Ralph Flanagan was a pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader, who worked with the orchestras of Charlie Barnet, Boyd Raeburn, Hal McIntyre, Sammy Kaye, Alvino Rey and Blue Barron before launching his own band in the late 1940s, based very much on the sound of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, being signed to RCA by Glenn Miller's former A&R man. Performing a range of straight orchestral and swinging jazz pieces, along with the hot songs of the day sung by his featured vocalist Harry Prime and his vocal group The Singing Winds, he had a string of over twenty hits between 1949 and 1953, including his signature Top 10 composition "Hot Toddy". This great-value 51-track 2-CD set comprises selected A & B sides on the Rainbow, Bluebird and RCA-Victor labels during this era. It features all his 21 career chart entries, including the Top 10 hits "Don't Cry Joe (Let Her Go, Let Her Go)", Rag Mop", "Nevertheless", "Harbour Lights", "Slow Poke", "I Should Care" and "Hot Toddy". His music was very much of it's era, typifying a particular strand of the pop scene of the post-war decade, and this collection offers an enjoyable selection of his work. 3,940円

They started singing in their teens, working on radio in Cuba styled as a Cuban version of The Andrews Sisters. They moved with their mother to Miami in 1942, where they were seen by an agent who booked them into New York's Copacabana, and as proteges of Carmen Miranda, they became a popular cabaret act, making early records in 1952 with Tito Puente, although their recording career did not really get under way until they signed to the Abbott label in 1954. Born in Texas in 1914 - "Ivory Joe" were his given names and not a nickname - he made his first recordings as a talented youngster for the Library of Congress in 1933. He worked on radio in Texas in the early '40s before moving to Los Angeles, and joining Johnny Moore's Three Blazers for a while before making his first solo records in 1945. He had a string of hits in the late '40s which appear on Acrobat's existing product "Ivory Joe Hunter - Jukebox Hits 1945-50" (ACMCD4208), registering a landmark No. 1 with "I Almost Lost My Mind" in 1950. 【輸入盤CD】【新品】Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons / Origins And Early Years 1953-62【K2022/3/4発売】(フランキー・ヴァリ&フォー・シーズンズ)

あめりかん・ぱい
2022/3/4 発売輸入盤レーベル: ACROBAT収録曲:(フランキーバリ&フォーシーズンズ)The Four Seasons, featuring the remarkable and unmistakeable voice of Frankie Valli, were one of the most popular and successful groups of the 1960s on both sides of the Atlantic, and one of the few American groups to withstand the onslaught of the British Invasion to carry their chart career through into the 1970s. When they had their first big hit as The Four Seasons in 1961 with "Sherry", they were by no means new to the pop scene and both Frankie Valli and the group had paid their dues for the best part of a decade, honing their skills in a variety of guises on an equally bewildering array of record labels. This great-value 58-track 2-CD set features most of Frankie Valli's early recordings, both solo and with various groups before they became The Four Seasons in 1960, and then presents their early successes under that name. It comprises selected A & B sides as Frankie Valley, Frankie Valley & The Travellers, The Four Lovers, Frankie Valli & The Romans, The Village Voices, Billy Dixon & The Topics, Johnny Halo, Hal Miller and The Rays, and The Four Seasons for the Corona, Mercury RCA, Epic, Okeh, Cindy, Decca, Topix, Gone and Vee-Jay labels. It also features the tracks from The Four Lovers album "Joyride" and the Four Seasons album "Sherry &11 Others". Quite apart from setting the scene for the rest of their career as the Four Seasons, this collection of doowop and rock 'n' roll from the era when Frankie and his colleagues were exploring the potential of their talent, is hugely entertaining and offers a real insight into what lay behind The Four Seasons' success. 3,940円

あめりかん・ぱい
こちらの商品はネコポスでお届けできません。2022/2/4 発売輸入盤レーベル: ACROBAT収録曲:We complete our popular and successful series devoted to the biggest chart records of each calendar year in the early chart era as we focus on 1948, the eighth full calendar year of the Billboard Best Sellers chart which was launched in July 1940. Acrobat now boasts a complete series of these collections from 1940 through to 1962. This great value 103-track 4-CD set comprises just about every record which peaked in the Top 15 of the Billboard Best Sellers chart or in the Top 15 of the Cash Box chart during the year. For reasons of space, it excludes those records were still in the chart at the start of the year, but which peaked in the Top 10 in 1947, and so are included in our existing 1947 collection. It was a big year for solo vocalists, who were starting to dominate as the big swing bands declined in the era of post-war austerity and the burgeoning medium of television offered new promotional opportunities, although the "sweet" orchestras with their featured singers continued to hold sway, and the year had it's customary smattering of novelty songs, often in jazzy R&B or country styles. Eight different records made No. 1 in the Best Sellers, with some having lengthy chart runs. As usual, there were also quite a number of highly collectable records by some artists we don't hear too much about these days. It makes for an intriguing and very entertaining musical snapshot of the music scene during a period of creative transition as the world finally settled down after the turbulent years of conflict. It includes a 15,000+ word booklet with a commentary on every record as well as full discographical and chart information. 4,690円

With Robert Byrd (aka Bobby Day), David Ford, Gaynel Hodge and Earl Nelson as long serving key members among the changing personnel, they recorded variously as the Flames, Hollywood Four Flames, The Jets, The Question Marks, The Satellites, The Ebbtides, and The Turks, their records being released on an equally bewildering array of labels. This great-value 78-track 3-CD set comprises most of their A & B sides of their releases under those names on the Selective, Unique, Fidelity, Specialty, Recorded In Hollywood, Spin, 7-11, Swing Time. Lucky, Aladdin, Money, Cash, Class, Ebb, Chess, Goldie and Coronet labels during these years. It features their pop No. 11 and R&B No. 5 "Buzz Buzz Buzz", and R &B No. 26 "Gee", plus the pop No. 2 and R&B No. 1 "Rockin' Robin", and the pop chart entries "Little Bitty Pretty One" and "Over And Over". As a group whose music had to compete a dynamic and rapidly evolving market, it encompasses old-school doowop, R&B, and in the later years pure rock 'n' roll, and this substantial collection is thoroughly entertaining showcase for their talent and versatility. The Hollywood Flames were a doowop and R&B vocal group, who formed in Los Angeles in 1949, and remained active under a variety of names and with evolving line-ups through into the early 1960s, enjoying a major pop and R&B hit with "Buzz Buzz Buzz" in 1957, and with Bobby Day as featured singer had big hits as Bobby Day & The Satellites. He combined swinging instrumental jazz with middle-of-the road ballads and novelty material featuring vocalists who included Carl Denny, Ruth Gaylor, Frankie Lester, Nancy Reed and others. This 47-track 2-CD set comprises selected A & B sides from his releases on the Victor, Bluebird, Cosmo and MGM labels during these years. It features all his career chart successes, including the Top 10 hits "Sentimental Journey", "I'll Buy That Dream" and "The Gypsy" and the Top 20 entries "I'm Making Believe", "Cement Mixer (Put-Ti-Put-Ti)" and "There's No-One But You". McIntyre himself is featured on some notable instrumentals which firmly underline both his and his orchestra's jazz credentials. Overshadowed as he was by the big names of the swing era in whose footsteps he trod, he is perhaps less well-known than he might have been, but he made an entertaining contribution to the pop scene of the 1940s and this is an enjoyable showcase for his music.Hal McIntyre was a saxophonist and bandleader, who was a founder member of the famous Glenn Miller orchestra, but launched his own orchestra in 1941 and had a string of hits through the 1940s until the big band era suffered a decline. Making his debut when still in his teens, he had been recording since the latter years of WWII (see "Mel Torme - The Early Years 1944-47" Acrobat ACTRCD9086), and had written the classic hit "The Christmas Song", before signing to Capitol in 1949. This great-value 52-track 2-CD collection comprises selected A & B sides of his releases on the Capitol, Coral, Bethlehem, Verve and Atlantic labels during these years, including duets with Peggy Lee and Margaret Whiting - the creative orientation of some of those labels underlines the jazz dimension of his output. It features all his chart entries from this era, including the US No.1 "Careless Hands" and the Top 10 hits "Again", "The Four Winds And The Seven Seas" and "Bewitched" and the UK Top 20 hits "Mountain Greenery" and "Comin' Home Baby". It includes recordings with some of the most noted arranger/conductors of the day, including Nelson Riddle, Billy May, Neal Hefti, Frank de Vol, Pete Rugolo, Marty Paich, Sonny Burke and others. 2022/1/14発売輸入盤レーベル: ACROBAT COLUMBIA収録曲:(ディジーガレスピー)STUDIO AND 'LIVE' COLLABORATIONS 1960-62 - DIZZY GILLESPIE / LALO SCHIFRIN - Lalo Schifrin is an Argentinian pianist, composer, arranger and conductor who studied and played in France in the early '50s before forming his own jazz orchestra in Argentina. He first met Dizzy Gillespie in 1956 and wrote the extended work "Gillespiana" for him. While in New York in 1960, he was offered chance to join Gillespie's Quintet as pianist, and over the next two years recorded a number of sessions with Gillespie as well as performing with Gillespie at recorded concerts and club dates, which established his reputation, providing the basis for his becoming a celebrated composer of film music in later years. This 2-CD set comprises studio and 'live' recordings from the albums "Gillespiana", "Jazz At The Philharmonic In Europe", "An Electrifying Evening With The Dizzy Gillespie Quintet" and "Dizzy On The French Riviera", along with selected other 'live" performances. It includes performances with a number of noted jazz musicians, including Clark Terry, J.J. Johnson. Stan Getz, Benny Carter, Cannonball Adderley, Leo Wright, Chuck Lampkin, Bob Cunningham, Candido Camero, Charlie Ventura, Mel Lewis and others. It's a highly enlightening introduction to Schifrin's early years on the US jazz scene, working with one of the pioneers and architects of bebop, on a range of repertoire that includes his own compositions, bebop classics and vibrant Latin jazz. 3,940円
