2022/5/6 発売輸入盤レーベル: URANIA RECORDS収録曲:The compositions contained in this release allow us to become familiar with the most significant and compelling chamber music scores composed on texts by Dante between the 19th and the 20th centuries. The primary literary source is the Divine Comedy, especially the Inferno with it's characters whose worldly events were horribly and romantically overwhelming. The other work whose verses have been put to music is Vita nova, a middle way between poetry and prose, that is the emotional obsession of an adolescent for the stylized figure of a woman his own age. 3,790円

This release circles around the idea of bringing (back) visual elements into the musical experience. The term "soundscapes" refers to acoustic environments created by contingent phenomena. Sounds create scapes, evoking visual experiences. The compositions on this recording are capable of creating landscapes and seascapes in their own right. The three sonatas by Edward Elgar, Felix Mendelssohn, and Robin de Raaff originate environments that allow juxtapositions, pairings with three short pieces by Florence Price, Felix Mendelssohn, and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. 3,290円

発売日: 2022/1/21輸入盤USレーベル: Brilliant Classics収録曲:コメント:An 80th-birthday tribute featuring new recordings of key works by the Italian guitarist-composer from one of his most dedicated interpreters. Born in the Piedmont region of Italy in 1941, Angelo Gilardino stands in the noble line of guitarist composer-performers that includes Paganini, Tarrega, Brouwer and countless more. Yet he professes not to be the best interpreter of his own music, leaving that privilege to others. One such is Sicilian guitarist Cristiano Porqueddu, who studied with Gilardino and who presents here an appealing mix of the composer's solo and orchestral works featuring classical guitar. After the impressionistic works of his early period such as Abreuana, Gilardino evolved a more formal style during the 1980s, beginning with his first series of 12 studies (Studi di virtuosita e di trascendenza) in 1981. The 60 final Studies now stand as cornerstone of Gilardino's oeuvre, having entered the concert programmes of guitarists worldwide. He wrote his first concerto for guitar and orchestra in 1996; the Concerto di Oliena is his third, dedicated to Cristiano Porqueddu and highly evocative in it's opening movement of the rocky terrain and harsh contrasts of the Sardinian landscape which is also Porqueddu's native land. During the 2000s, Gilardino returned to writing for the solo guitar, skilfully bridging the divide between atonal chromatic and diatonic modal music in the five-movement Sardegna suite dedicated to Porqueddu. The collection is bookended by a musical birthday card from the collection (composed between 1953 and 1968) by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and Porqueddu's own Metamorfosis de la Soledad, inspired by his encounter with the artist Gastone Cecconello. An 80th-birthday tribute featuring new recordings of key works by the Italian guitarist-composer from one of his most dedicated interpreters. 2021/10/1 発売輸入盤レーベル:CHANDOS収録曲:Krzysztof Meisinger writes of his new release: "When I was asked to write an introduction to my debut album for Chandos, I wondered for a long time what it should be about. My artistic path? The key to the program selection for the album? Or maybe my subjective description of the pieces I have recorded? I decided to explain in a few words my relationship with the guitar - a difficult relationship, full of passion, but also of doubts. It all started with delight. The guitar has always been a magical instrument to me. While playing, the musician is in direct contact with the string and the sound. The players, these 'magicians', whose recordings fascinated me at the beginning of my musical education were Andres Segovia and Julian Bream. Thanks to them, I understood that the guitar is the instrument of my life, and that it is to it's kind that I want to devote my artistic energies. A little time later, I started to notice some imperfections, which made me ask different questions. Why is the guitar repertoire so small, when you compare it to that of other concert instruments? Why is the guitar not able to convey all those emotions which I want to express? It took me some time looking before I came upon the answer. And the answer was this: to turn all those 'disadvantages' into virtues. After all, a guitar cannot be pretentious. It is what it is, a guitar -an intimate, sublime, beautiful instrument... It is the most honest mirror of the musician. It reaches the deepest corners of the soul, and allows both the performer and the listener to touch heaven in a nasty world." 3,590円

2021/7/23 発売輸入盤レーベル:NAXOS収録曲:Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco was one of Italy's most influential and important composers during the 20th century. He was inspired to write for the guitar after meeting Andres Segovia, and in the years that followed he wrote over one hundred works for the instrument. The Quintet for Guitar and String Quartet, a rare combination, reveals perfect sonority and construction with a serene Iberian mood. The Sonatina for Flute and Guitar contrasts joyfulness with poignant melodies, while the Eclogues are bucolic and lively. Written for Segovia and his wife Paquita Madriguera, the Fantasia for guitar and piano presents an expertly blended texture for this combination of instruments. Guitarist Leonard Becker is the Second Prize winner of the International Hannabach Guitar Competition 2020, held in Augsburg, Germany. He has performed with orchestras including the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he performed Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuezin 2019. Alongside Louis Vandory, Valerie Steenken, Elisabeth Buchner and Marton Braun he is the founder of the Tedesco-Quintett (guitar and string quartet), which won First Prize at the International Chamber Music Competition 'Gerhard Vogt' in 2019. 2,290円

2021/7/2 発売輸入盤レーベル: STRADIVARIUS収録曲:A monograph on the chamber music for guitar by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco is not a new operation, nor is it particularly original: the numbers of works that the Maestro bequeathed to the six strings significantly occupy the entire last season of the Florentine composer's life and work. It was evident in his perception that "chamber music would be the salvation of the classical guitar". However, this album is not born from a compiling urgency, from a need to combine a catalog and observe it with fetishism in it's entirety, - after all, there are many chamber pieces missing from the entire corpus, not to mention the vocal chamber music and the music for two guitars, here only partially addressed. Rather, from the desire to contemplate in a different perspective some elements of a rich legacy that still today stimulates and fascinates the interpreters who approach it. The title "Appunti" (Notes) is anything but casual, as are the works chosen to represent it. In recounting this repertoire, my will - with the help of a homogeneous time span going from 1950 to the last days of the Maestro's life - has been to highlight the possibilities of salvation that the guitar assumes through chamber music, with compositional skills that can still be defined as exemplary acts of bravura and happy inspiration, unsurpassed to this day. As on a notebook, the notes collected take shape, and become the argument for possibilities, then become thesis, evidence, and, eventually, memory. 3,290円

発売日: 2020/11/20輸入盤USレーベル: Brilliant Classics収録曲:コメント:Not least thanks to a growing catalogue of albums on Brilliant Classics, the multi-faceted work of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1970) is experiencing a renaissance. The guitar music he wrote for Segovia has until recently overshadowed the vocal and chamber pieces which speak with the composer's own voice, that of an Italian lyricist at heart whose intimate acquaintance with world literature and the whole history of music - he was fluent in at least six languages - lend cosmopolitan charm and a lightness of touch to a style encapsulated by '20th-century Impressionism'. Both the Cello Sonata Op.50 (1928) and the Second Piano Trio (1932) date from Castelnuovo-Tedesco's early maturity in Italy, when he was known as a musical man of parts, equally adept as a performer, a composer and a writer on music. The two-movement form of the Cello Sonata is unusual but successful, capitalizing on the solo instrument's propensity for long cantabile lines with a spaciously unfolding opening arioso, followed in Beethovenian fashion with an 'arietta con variazioni' that does indeed evoke a mood of 18th-century elegance. The G minor Piano Trio, as befits it's key signature, is a much more turbulent work, even in it's central Romance with variations. Castelnuovo-Tedesco composed his Clarinet Sonata towards the end of the Second World War, having emigrated to the US in 1938, in flight from Mussolini's persecution of the Jews. He appears not to have had a particular performer in mind, though the clarinet was enjoying new-found status as a solo instrument due to Benny Goodman's commissioning of pieces from the likes of Copland and Milhaud, and his colleague on the composing staff at MGM Studios, Nathaniel Shillkret, was also a fine clarinetist. The Sonata's Classical four-movement structure is infused with Romantic melody, shimmering piano textures and jazz-inflected harmonies. Not least thanks to a growing catalogue of albums on Brilliant Classics, the multi-faceted work of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1970) is experiencing a renaissance. 2020/2/7 発売輸入盤レーベル:BRILLIANT CLASSICS収録曲:Any cellist seeking new repertoire, and any listener in search of Romantic cello sonatas beyond Brahms, will alight upon this album with enthusiasm. Although Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) studied under Ildebrando Pizzetti (1880-1968) at the Conservatoire in Florence during the early years of the 20th century, their paths diverged when the Jewish Castelnuovo-Tedesco had to emigrate to the US in 1938. Back in 1921 Pizzetti had composed a Cello Sonata thematically unified across it's three movements, with an 'agitated and anguished' Scherzo at it's heart, while the slow outer movements translate elements of medieval chant and polyphony into soulful meditations. Three years later he composed a cycle of Tre Canti - three songs more commonly encountered in the version for violin and piano but better suited to the pitch and expressive range of the cello, so closely molded to that of the human voice. And these really are 'songs without words' - by turns affectionate, tender and impassioned. The younger Castelnuovo-Tedesco was more concerned to establish a mood than to tell a story in his instrumental music, and the first movement of his Cello Sonata from 1928 is an object example of his tendency to face both backwards and forwards, artistically speaking, so that he can evoke Romanticism while simultaneously casting doubt upon it's certainties and view them from an anxious distance. The album is rounded off with the delicious fantasy on the Largo al factotum and 'Un voce po' fa' from Il barbiere di Siviglia which Castelnuovo-Tedesco composed in two versions, for Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky, having emigrated and become a fixture on the Hollywood musical scene. 2,490円

From the reminiscent Alghe (or 'seaweed'), which features a delicate melody over shimmering Debussy- like harmonies, to Le stagioni ('The Seasons') and I naviganti ('The Sailors'), Castelnuovo-Tedesco was a master at creating evocative images of provincial life through his music.
