2028 - 2040From the Hengst (limestone) and 80-year-old vines in Wintzenheim (alluvial soil), the bright crimson-colored NV Pinot Gris Kamikaze Vin de France MMXXIII was macerated and fermented over 10 days (destemmed and with just one punch-down per day) and aged for six months in old wooden casks. The wine shows a delicate red berry and floral aroma with limestone notes on the charmingly fruity and open-hearted nose. On the palate, this is a light and delicate, filigreed and gentle yet also quite intense and textured but most of all fruity Pinot that is more like a light red than an orange or white wine. There are strawberries of all kinds and conditions. "I think Pinot Gris wants to be a red wine in terms of aromas, spices and structure,“ says Isabelle Meyer, and I completely agree. With Patrick Meyer’s Pinot Gris, this is possibly one of the finest of its kind in Alsace. The wine is labeled with a 40-year-old photograph of Jean-Fran?ois Meyer standing in a street in Ginza, Japan. The wine was bottled filtered and slightly sulfured in June 2024 with 12.5% stated alcohol and a Diam 5 cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2024.(The Wine Advocate, Feb 07, 2025)
