Sie finden in vielen Standardwerken keine oder nur eine marginale Erw?hnung; und dies obwohl die Jahre von 1844 bis 1865 durchaus ereignisreich waren. In Santo Domingo wurden in diesen beiden konfliktgeladenen Dekaden die Weichen f?r die Zukunft des Staates weitgehend gestellt. So umschlie?t dieser Zeitraum exakt die Entwicklungen von der Unabh?ngigkeit bis zur endg?ltigen Abnabelung vom spanischen Mutterland. Es werden hierbei die Konflikte um die Unabh?ngigkeit des 'Parte Oriental' mit Haiti, sowie das unbest?ndige Verh?ltnis zur Gro?macht Spanien im Vordergrund stehen. Aus Platzgr?nden k?nnen die einzelnen kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen dabei nur oberfl?chliche Erw?hnung finden. Des weiteren werde ich kurz auf die Rolle der anderen Gro?m?chte in diesen Konflikten und die der beiden wichtigsten Caudillos Santo Domingos, Pedro Santana und Buenaventura Ba?z Mendez, eingehen. Auch in Puerto Rico wurde in den besagten Jahren das Fundament f?r eine, wenn auch hier ungleich langsamere, Abnabelung von Spanien gelegt. Auch hier m?chte ich eine kurze Darlegung der Gr?nde f?r die separatistischen Tendenzen vorwegschicken, um mich dann den Unterschieden und Gemeinsamkeiten der puertoricanischen Ereignisse verglichen mit den dominikanischen zu widmen. Abschlie?end wird in dieser Seminararbeit der Versuch unternommen, die Ereignisse in den Jahren 1844 bis 1865 mit der Politik Spaniens und dem Habitus der spanischen Beh?rden in Santo Domingo und Puerto Rico in einen kausalen Zusammenhang zu bringen.
