Woody Allen Films, language: English, abstract: Woody Allen, born Allen Stewart Konigsberg , is a Jewish artist, who is mostly known as filmmaker - but he carries several faces and puts his work into several fields. Although his movies often seem to deal with the same topics, Allen never concentrates on only one genre, as we worked out during our seminar and the expert sessions. Besides his widely spread image of the intellectual and humorous filmmaker, he put his thoughts into prose and stand-up comedy, too; he wrote articles for magazines like New York Times, Playboy or The New Republic and of course he is known through his roles in his own films. By acting out his own roles he has written, Woody Allen as the private person and the public known Woody Allen, somehow melted together; so, the viewer can find more personal elements in Allen`s movies, as he or she may expect. Or better said, he by some means performed himself through the stories of his films. Besides the fact that Allen mostly acted out the role of the protagonist in his movies and barring that the topics of the movies seem to be repetitive, there are other typical elements that continuously appear in his movies, what in this paper - as it already have been in our expert session - will be depicted as 'allenesque elements'. These are for instance the neurotic characters, the Jewishness (that apparently refers to his private persona), the psycho-analysis, the fusion of reality and fiction, unhappy relationships, love-affairs and the element of the anxious behavior, towards special issues, of some of his characters are just a number of the main subjects that are typical of Woody Allen stories. But Allen`s audience is not only 'confronted' with these topics in his movies; as already mentioned, he also developed his ideas in prose and short stories. With his book 'Mere Anarchy', in 2007 Woody Allen brought out his fourth collection of short stories and the first since 27 years. During this time he was mostly occupied with his movies; nearly every year, a new Allen movie was released. His new short story collection 'Mere Anarchy' contains 18 pieces of which ten have been published in the New Yorker. Furthermore the reader can encounter the well known and already mentioned 'allenesque' topics that in this case are for instance the doubt or self-doubts, the fact of loving women he cannot reach and the preference for progressive topics that were part of some of his movies, too. H?ufig wird er in Zusammenhang mit der 'Postmoderne' gebracht und 'zu einer Kategorie von K?nstlern [gez?hlt], die eine bestimmte Themenstellung in verschiedenen Medien bearbeiten und unterschiedliche Zitierweisen in ihrer Arbeit vermischen.' Jedoch m?chte der Regisseur selbst nicht in eine bestimmte Kategorie eingebunden werden und wehrt sich gegen die 'Etikettierung seines Filmwerks als postmodern'. Der Regisseur selbst ordnet seinen Film dem Genre 'zeitgen?ssisches Melodram' zu und betrachtet ihn als 'eine ausschweifende, unwahrscheinliche, aber nicht unm?gliche Geschichte, die in einem Restaurant spielt, wo es abwegig erscheint, dass wirklich alles gegessen wird, sei es auch nur als Experiment.' Im Originaltitel hei?t der Film The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover und ist im Jahr 1989 entstanden. Desperate Housewives won several awards since its broadcast, like the Emmy, the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild Award. In April 2007 the serial was awarded as most popular show with an audience of over 119 million viewers. The fictional setting of Wisteria Lane in Fairview is the home of a group of women protagonists: Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross), Edie Britt (Nicolette Sheridan) and Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany) are the main female characters that are more or less friends. All of them have their own specialties and problems in their lives. The plot of each episode follows these struggles they have to deal with in their family lives in domestic surroundings. But with every episode it becomes clearer that even in beautiful and seemingly perfect suburban neighborhoods lots of secrets, crimes and mysteries are buried. The answers to these mysteries are mostly given by another friend of them - Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) - who died in the pilot episode of Desperate Housewives because she committed suicide. Mary Alice Young nevertheless appears in the series - but as the narrator of each episode. Her voice leads the viewer through the happenings and through the plot of Desperate Housewives and structures the series with her pro- and epilogues. Demnach z?hle ich mich selbst, als Verfasserin der vorliegenden Arbeit, ebenso zu den jungen T?rkinnen, deren Aufwachsen und Leben zwischen zwei kontr?ren Kulturen, sie gepr?gt aber vor allem bereichert hat. Daher ist es an dieser Stelle angemessen zu erw?hnen, dass ich in meinen Ausf?hrungen ferner pers?nliches Wissen und Sichtweisen anf?hren werde, welches nicht immer mit literarischen Quellen nachgewiesen wird. Doch w?hrend die Identit?tsproblematik zun?chst als pers?nliches Problem der Betroffenen galt, ist sie mit voranschreitender Zeit allerdings immer n?her in den Vordergrund ger?ckt. Nicht zuletzt auch durch die stetigen Diskussionen ?ber Integration und Anpassung der t?rkischen Bev?lkerungsgruppe in der BRD. Doch bevor die Hauptthematik dieser Arbeit n?her betrachtet werden kann, sollte ein R?ckblick in die Geschichte unternommen werden, welche die m?glichen Ursachen f?r die heute existierenden Probleme aufweisen k?nnte. Anfang der sechziger Jahre kam es aufgrund des rapiden Wirtschafswachstums in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland dazu, dass auf dem Arbeitsmarkt viele Arbeitsstellen nicht besetzt waren. Die Bundesregierung entschied sich f?r die Ma?nahme nicht-deutsche Arbeitskr?fte aufzunehmen. Daraufhin entschloss sich die BRD Anwerbevertr?ge mit verschiedenen L?ndern abzuschlie?en, aus denen Arbeitskr?fte kommen sollten. Die Bundesanstalt f?r Arbeit schloss, entsprechend dem Auftrag der Bundesregierung, den ersten Anwerbevertrag mit Italien ab. Es folgten weitere s?deurop?ische L?nder, wie Spanien und Griechenland. Das Abkommen zur Anwerbung t?rkischer Arbeitskr?fte wurde erst sp?ter, im Oktober 1961, besiegelt. Beide Seiten des Abkommens, also sowohl die Bundesrepublik, als auch die angeworbenen L?nder, glaubten vorerst lediglich an einen befristeten Arbeitsaufenthalt, das hei?t an einen Aufenthalt von wenigen Jahren. They are chased by their murderers on their ways home from the so called 'maquiladoras', which are factories where they work for a little sum of money and produce TVs or computers for the USA at the assembly lines. The young women are violated and raped by their kidnappers and later their dead bodies are buried somewhere in the desert of Mexico. Nevertheless, the police and the whole government of Ju?rez try to camouflage these events. The number of victims, published by the police, is about 375 women, whereas the estimated number of unreported cases is about 5000. Gregory Nava made these true events to the story of his movie Bordertown from 2006. The tortures the women of Ju?rez have to experience and the underlying topic of border-crossing are the essential subjects of Bordertwon. Furthermore, within his movie, he has chosen a special way of communicating these topics to the viewer: he makes use of media, respectively investigative media, in order to show how hard it is to explore this subject. So, not only he himself uses media as an organ of communication but he moreover embeds the investigation of certain matters into his movie. Nowadays media is the most important institution of distributing and communicating information and of transmitting one's own perspective about certain topics. This is not only done by directors like in the case of Gregory Nava but by everyone who stands in the centre of a certain field - for instance politicians or celebrities. As Wilma de Jong, Martin Shaw and Neil Stammers have formulated in their introduction of Global Activism, Global Media (2005): 'Media appear to be increasingly globalised, as national television, press, etc. are subsumed in gigantic worldwide flows of information and ideas, symbolized by the internet which offers social and political actors new opportunities for more direct communication.' So, media - in our time better said 'mass media' - stands for a direct but widely spread transmission of information to the audience. People, who decide to transmit certain messages through media - in this case for instance Gregory Nava and his protagonists from Bordertown - have a special aim by acting this way: they want to make a change within the field they are working for.
