The Blindman's World 1898【電子書籍】[ Edward Bellamy ]

Edward Bellamy's 'The Blindman's World' is a seminal work of science fiction that explores the concept of reality and perception. Written in a poignant and thought-provoking style, the book follows the journey of a blind man who gains the ability to see, only to discover that the world he sees may not be as real as he believed. Bellamy's narrative skillfully blurs the lines between fiction and reality, challenging readers to question their own perceptions of the world around them. Set in the late 19th century, the book reflects the author's fascination with the rapid technological advancements of the time and their potential impact on human consciousness. Bellamy's unique blend of philosophical inquiry and social commentary sets 'The Blindman's World' apart as a work that transcends genre boundaries and continues to captivate readers to this day. I highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in exploring the complexities of perception and reality through the lens of science fiction.

To Whom This May Come, With the Eyes Shut, The Blindman's World【電子書籍】[ Edward Bellamy ]

THE narrative to which this note is introductory was found among the papers of the late Professor S. Erastus Larrabee, and, as an acquaintance of the gentleman to whom they were bequeathed, I was requested to prepare it for publication. This turned out a very easy task, for the document proved of so extraordinary a character that, if published at all, it should obviously be without change. It appears that the professor did really, at one time in his life, have an attack of vertigo, or something of the sort, under circumstances similar to those described by him, and to that extent his narrative may be founded on fact. How soon it shifts from that foundation, or whether it does at all, the reader must conclude for himself. It appears certain that the professor never related to any one, while living, the stranger features of the experience here narrated, but this might have been merely from fear that his standing as a man of science would be thereby injured.

The Blindman's Hat【電子書籍】[ Bernard Cohen ]

The multiple award-winning The Blindman's Hat is Paul Auster with added exuberant silliness, Sara Paretsky stuffed full of red herrings, and Hergé overcome by lust.

Vernon is an expatriate Australian journalist working in Manhattan for a quality New York daily and Dida is a freelance mobile telephone technician. Muffy is Vernon’s little white dog ? and the world’s cutest urban philosopher. When Vernon falls so deeply in love with Dida that he stops going to work to be with her, they could not have predicted his former employers would ask, plead, beg, threaten, kidnap and probably even murder to convince Vernon to return to the workplace.

Vernon, Dida and Muffy determine to get to the bottom of all this. They search through dodgy Wall Street transactions, oppressive correspondence and muffled answering machine messages, and confront good twin/bad twin routines and failed hypnotherapy. Always, Vernon worries about his dwindling Australianness.

“Refreshingly paranoid.” ー Brian Castro.

“4 stars... hilarious prize-winning thriller... Eclectic, paranoid and barbed, this is a brilliantly original, appealing orgy of intelligence, humour and lust.” ー (UK) Mail on Sunday.

“Cohen’s loopy, hilarious, perceptive, racy and sexy murder mystery... manages to sustain the suspense of a thriller, the panache of a stand-up comic and the skill of a serious satirist... Just when you think, too, that Cohen’s wacky humour may have pushed the boundary, he drops us back into the seriousness of the murder mystery, or the machinations of high-finance swindles, or the workings of a modern-day newspaper. Some of Muffy’s observations are worthy of that highest of honoursーto be pinned to the fridge. This novel is a refreshing breeze through Australian writing. The tension is handles with the skill of a five-ball juggler, the language sharp and the tone unwavering. The Blindman’s Hat is great fun. A hoot.” ー The Australian.

“Funny and compelling” ー (Sydney) Daily Telegraph

“Cohen certainly knows how to spin an outrageous yarn” ー Sydney Morning Herald

“Imagine a novel that reads like an extended, off-the-wall cartoon strip, a textual version of Wallace and Grommet, in which man and dog find themselves in New York at the mercy of inexplicable events and bizarre encounters. Imagine an expatriate Australian journalist called Vernon who is on the run from the American newspaper he used to work for and a dog called Muffy who is prone to philosophise on human habits and foibles. Imagine that a blindman called Steve goes missing and that Vernon, his girlfriend Dida and Muffy get caught up in the search for the missing man. Imagine that anything can happen and very likely will. This winner of last year’s Vogel Prize is mad-cap absurdism at its most mad-cap” ー (Melbourne) Age

“The two narrators of The Blindman’s Hat complement each other well: Vernon is impulsive, anxious, playful and paranoid, while Muffy’s philosophical reflections, scattered through the novel, reveal a much darker, more complex sensibility. The Blindman’s Hat has a cool, charming, cartoonish quality from first to last, and the exuberant paranoia of a caper movie...” ー Philippa Hawker, Australian Book Review

The Blugold Blindman of UW Eau Claire【電子書籍】[ Greg Minster ]

It's early spring semester, 1976, at The University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Gordon Murphy, a college senior studying business, suddenly lost his eyesight in a tragic auto accident the year before. After taking the fall semester off, his return to a somewhat normal life back at school will take a long time, and prove difficult. Along the way, he discovers powers and unknown talents that introduce him to amazing (and often quirky) new friends (including his guide dog Ringo, and the noted artists Rembrandt, Michelangelo, and Van Gogh) who not only help him in his recuperating, but also ask for his help in return.

The "Blugold Blindman of UW Eau Claire" takes the reader on a nostalgic visit to college and university life in 'seventies' United States. An era dwarfed in history by the social upheaval of the sixties and the booming economic growth of the eighties, but at the same time well-marked and remembered by those who came of age during that decade.

After much contemplation, a whole lot of patience and bucket loads of sheer determination, he came up with a crazy plan. He would traverse the same route as Holman's first expedition did and make a comparison between modern day travel and a journey of the past.

Engross yourself in this crazy Multifaceted Mediterranean Mobility Meander, as he travles sighltless all the way from Sicily to Southern France. See how he manages to enjoy his epic journey through the sense of Sound, Smell, Taste and Touch. Join him as he undertakes some of the very challenges that Holman faced and follows in the footsteps of the first blind adventurer to circumnavigate the world.

From climbing the active volcano, Mount Etna, on Sicily to sea kayaking along the Amalfi coast. From eating a pizza at its birth place in Napoli, to feasting with a local family on Sardinia. From hiking in the forests of Tuscany, to cycling on a Tandem bike around the wall of an ancient town. From swimming in the Mediterranean Sea to making the perfect cr?me br?l?e with a French chef. Chris will keep you laughing as you join him on the adventure of a lifetime using his remaining four senses. You will be entretained as you see how he undertakes to prove his #BlindManCan theory. A story that culminates with a life changing twist.

About the Author

"Christopher, aka ‘The Blind Scooter Guy’, writes stories for readers who have an interest or passion for travel and adventure. This crazy wordsmith thrives on sharing with his readers how he can and does experience the world through all his available senses.

Allow the Blind Scooter Guy to engage your imagination as he shares the stories of his epic expeditions. Whether you are a traveller, biker or scooterist planning your first trip or an enthusiastic armchair explorer looking to immerse yourself in adventure, the Blind Scooter Guy’s stories are for you!

He inspires adventure seekers to get themselves out there, to go and explore, to enjoy every sensory opportunity and to live their lives to the fullest.

Christopher’s work draws from a lifetime of experiences both pre and post- sight loss. His poignant and persuasive stories are most often told with a wry sense of humour.

In his previous book, How I became the Blind Scooter Guy he tells the story of how he rode on a little 150cc two-stroke Vespa scooter, with no support vehicle, all the way from his hometown Cape Town, South Africa to Dublin, Ireland. This trip was where he sadly became ill. An illness that culminated in his sight loss. The book then tells how he put the pieces of his broken life back together and became the travel and adventure writer that he had always aspired to become.

Today, he works as both a writer and a professional inspirational speaker. He is not only an amazing storyteller, he is also an accidental accessibility advocate, an intrepid adventurer, a vintage scooter collector, restorer and enthusiast, a chef, a scuba diver, fisherman, guitar player, boxer, all round petrolhead and roamer of the globe ? all this despite his lack of sight.

His words show how, using just the remaining senses of sound, smell, taste and touch, he can today see the world. This is sometimes in a very different way and more often than not, in a clearer way than he ever did while sighted.

When asked how he accomplishes so much, he quips, "You can eat an elephant if you just take one bite at a time!"

The Blind Man Sees What the Mute Man Tells【電子書籍】[ Gabrielle Ayeni ]

Welcome to this journey of poetic expression. To give you a bit of background on myself, I have been writing poetry since I was a child and this book is a compilation of reflections, experiences, and people I have encountered throughout my life. Some poems are based on my impressions, some based on personal experience, and some are purely fictional based on passing strangers and imagining their stories. The main tenet of my writing is to give a new perspective to emotions we all share and to open the reader's mind to see things in a different light. I hope you enjoy reading these poems as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

From the moment I watched a documentary of Chris Bonington and Tom Patey climb the perpendicular flanks of the Old Man of Hoy I knew that my life would not be complete until I had followed in their footholds. That was in 1983 when I was thirteen. Within months I was tackling my first crags and dreaming of standing atop Europe's tallest sea stack with the Atlantic pounding 450 feet below. Those dreams went dark at nineteen when I learned I was going blind. I hung up my harness for twenty years and tried to ignore the twinge of desire I felt every time The Old Man appeared on TV.' Middle aged, by now a family man, crime novelist and occasional radio personality, Red Szell's life nonetheless felt incomplete. He was still climbing, but only indoors until he shared his old, unforgotten, dream with his buddies, Matthew and Andres, and it became obvious that an attempt had to be made. With the help of mountain guides Martin Moran and Nick Carter, and adventure cameraman Keith Partridge, supported by family and an ever growing following, Red set out to confront the Orcadian giant.

A detective story from the two authors who have joined their talents to produce it-'...Almost immediately after Warden had left the house, the door-bell rang and Kondo answered it. A young man with a quiet and pleasant bearing inquired for Mr. Warden and said he came by appointment. Kondo ushered him into the smoking room, where the stranger waited. The Jap did not announce this arrival to any one, for he had already received his instructions; but several times in the next half hour he looked in upon him. The stranger was always sitting where he had seated himself when Kondo showed him in; he was merely waiting. In about forty minutes, Corboy drove the car under the porte-coch?re again and got down and opened the door. Kondo had not heard the car at once, and the chauffeur had not waited for him. There was no motion inside the limousine. The chauffeur looked in and saw Mr. Warden lying back quietly against the cushions in the back of the seat; he was alone. ..’(Goodreads)

The Barefoot Lawyer A Blind Man's Fight for Justice and Freedom in China【電子書籍】[ Chen Guangcheng ]

An electrifying memoir by the blind Chinese activist who inspired millions with the story of his fight for justice and his belief in the cause of freedom

It was like a scene out of a thriller: one morning in April 2012, China's most famous political activistーa blind, self-taught lawyerーclimbed over the wall of his heavily guarded home and escaped. Days later, he turned up at the American embassy in Beijing, and only a furious round of high-level negotiations made it possible for him to leave China and begin a new life in the United States.

Chen Guangcheng is a unique figure on the world stage, but his story is even more remarkable than anyone knew. The son of a poor farmer in rural China, blinded by illness when he was an infant, Chen was fortunate to survive a difficult childhood. But despite his disability, he was determined to educate himself and fight for the rights of his country's poor, especially a legion of women who had endured forced sterilizations and abortions under the hated "one child" policy. Repeatedly harassed, beaten, and imprisoned by Chinese authorities, Chen was ultimately placed under house arrest. After nearly two years of increasing danger, he evaded his captors and fled to freedom.
Both a riveting memoir and a revealing portrait of modern China, The Barefoot Lawyer tells the story of a man who has never accepted limits and always believed in the power of the human spirit to overcome any obstacle.
