The piece uses a motif from the work Otsu Symphonic Band played in the wind band competition the previous year (Mantra of the Birds by Eiji Suzuki). Mr. Suzuki’s original is based on Tibetan music， but my challenge was whether I could use the same melody yet transform it into a totally different style of Scottish music.
