Specters of Marx The State of the Debt, the Work of Mourning and the New International【電子書籍】[ Jacques Derrida ]

Prodigiously influential, Jacques Derrida gave rise to a comprehensive rethinking of the basic concepts and categories of Western philosophy in the latter part of the twentieth century, with writings central to our understanding of language, meaning, identity, ethics and values.

In 1993, a conference was organized around the question, 'Whither Marxism?’, and Derrida was invited to open the proceedings. His plenary address, 'Specters of Marx', delivered in two parts, forms the basis of this book. Hotly debated when it was first published, a rapidly changing world and world politics have scarcely dented the relevance of this book.

Financial Budgeting Learn How To Manage Your Money, Spending, Savings, Credit Card Debt And Strategies To Increase Your Wealth【電子書籍】[ Robert Anderson ]

Everyone has an opportunity to grow their money and get out of debt, but you must start to make this a reality. Be warned, though, when your income starts to grow, it is easy to fall into temptation and start spending more than you are earning again.
Refrain and continue saving and investing your money.

Every small step counts. Every coin kept and invested counts. If you use the profit you make, you will be unable to grow your wealth. Instead, allow your investment to grow by using the profits as part of the next years principal. With time, you will have a venture that can not only buy you whatever you want but one that will continue to grow over the years.

Taking advice from experts in the field you wish to invest is critical to your investment. Would you go to a farmer when you are sick, or would you seek out a doctor? The same way, take your investment knowledge from those who understand the market dynamics and can offer you advice to help grow your investment.

Manage your credit cards with responsibility, or they will sink you into a hole. The easiest way to get into debt is to spend more than you earn. You need to keep your expenses lower than your income at all times. Watch your credit card spending because that's how we often find ourselves overspending.

To get out of debt is to pay. The longer it takes you to pay, the higher the interest rate you will be required to pay. Either consolidate your debt or tackle one debt at a time. You might want to reduce your expenses, so you have more money to spread around. Always start by saving 10% of your income. A safety net is essential for your peace of mind.

Budgeting does not have to be complicated. The more you simplify it, the better. As long as you track your expenses and stick to your budget, it will work for you. Ensure that you don't view it as a task but as a necessary tool to help you stay ahead, get a real financial picture, and manage your money correctly.

Each chapter in this book holds nuggets that will be valuable to you and those around you. Read this book and re-read it. Practice the tips outlined and stay focused and disciplined. Write your financial goal and stick it where you can see it every day, and it will motivate you to keep working on your plan and to achieve your goal.

Goff and Jerry Ashton know the inside story on medical debt. Each offers more than 40 years of experience inside the healthcare and collections industries. They team up to deliver a scathing indictment of America’s healthcare system. In simple and forceful language, they detail how present approaches are rigged to fatten the wallets of big pharmaceutical companies, insurance monopolies, and hospitals. The medical debt collections industry also waits patiently for their turn at the trough.
Beyond simply pointing out the mistakes and the greed, the two authors came up with a simple yet powerful solution: Buy medical debt on the open market, and then abolish it!Their vehicle is RIP Medical Debt, a non-profit established in 2013 for the purpose of locating, buying and then forgiving this debt as a gift to those struggling with unpaid and unpayable bills. One collections industry executive described this debt retirement plan as a “Robin Hood” approach.
The Patient, The Doctor and The Bill Collector will help you keep yourself and your family from being swept away by the tsunami of medical debt endangering our future in America You will learn from industry insiders the shocking truths that the debt collections industry, hospitals and insurance companies do not want you to know.
If you are a patient or a patient’s family member, you will learn:
* More than 64 million Americans already struggle to pay medical bills.
* More than 15 million people will deplete their savings to cover medical bills.
* Health insurance is no rescue, for 80 percent of those filing bankruptcy had insurance.
* The security blanket of health insurance is riddled with holes and surrounded by traps.
If you are a health practitioner, hospital or physicians group, you will learn:
* Pharmaceutical costs and office visit fees cause patients to skip medication and care.
* If you believe healthcare reform will reduce your revenue losses, think again.
The United States is the only industrialized nation with a market-based healthcare insurance system. As a result, America is destined to be the only industrialized nation to bring about a widespread debt impoverishment of its citizens.
Whether you are a patent, a doctor or a bill collector, you need this book to survive!
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Robert E. Goff is an acknowledged expert in healthcare delivery, organization and financing with a career spanning leadership positions as a hospital administrator, regulator, managed care executive, consultant, and association executive. Robert also is a corporate director and sought-after advisor to healthcare technology and care delivery companies.
Jerry Ashton is a recognized veteran of the credit and collections industry. He’s long been an outspoken critic of industry excesses. Inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement’s “Rolling Jubilee” campaign against medical debt, he came out of semi-retirement in 2014 to co-found RIP Medical Debt with the goal of removing one billion dollars in unpaid and unpayable personal medical bills from the backs of fellow Americans. Student Debt and Political Participation【電子書籍】[ Sylvia Nissen ]

This book examines how student debt informs the political action and participation of university students. The scale of student debt is unprecedented, particularly in the English-speaking world. In these democracies, debt has become an increasingly integral part of student life for many young people to enable participation in education and the wider economy. Using New Zealand as a case study, the author challenges existent assumptions about student attitudes towards loans by analysing how students speak about the impact of debt on themselves and their peers, including politically. Listening to these perspectives will provide a more nuanced insight into the underlying tensions and challenges of participating politically in a context of rising debt.

Subprime Health Debt and Race in U.S. Medicine【

From race-based pharmaceutical prescriptions and marketing, to race-targeted medical “hot spotting” and the Affordable Care Act, to stem-cell trial recruitment discourse, Subprime Health is a timely examination of race-based medicine as it intersects with the concept of debt.

The contributors to this volume propose that race-based medicine is inextricable from debt in two key senses. They first demonstrate how the financial costs related to race-based medicine disproportionately burden minorities, as well as how monetary debt and race are conditioned by broader relations of power. Second, the contributors investigate how race-based medicine is related to the concept of indebtedness and is often positioned as a way to pay back the debt that the medical establishmentーand society at largeーowes for the past and present neglect and abuses of many communities of color. By approaching the subject of race-based medicine from an interdisciplinary perspectiveーcritical race studies, science and technology studies, public health, sociology, geography, and lawーthis volume moves the discussion beyond narrow and familiar debates over racial genomics and suggests fruitful new directions for future research.

Contributors: Ruha Benjamin, Princeton U; Catherine Bliss, U of California, San Francisco; Khiara M. A Woman's Debt【電子書籍】[ William Le Queux ]

Excerpt: "“You're a lucky chap, Croxton, to have got the measure of the old man so well. I don’t suppose it will be long before you blossom into a partner.” The speaker, Archie Brookes, a slim elegant young fellow, very good-looking but with a somewhat effeminate expression, cast a sidelong glance at his companion as he uttered the remark, to observe covertly what impression it made upon him. There was no love lost between these two young men, although they were thrown constantly into each other’s society. Richard Croxton was the confidential secretary of Rupert Morrice, the well-known foreign banker and financier, whose firm had colossal dealings abroad. Brookes was a nephew and great favourite of the financier’s wife, the son of a dearly beloved sister who had died many years ago. In consequence of that relationship, and the partiality of his aunt, he was a frequent, almost a daily, visitor to the big house in Deanery Street, Park Lane, where the Morrices entertained largely and dispensed lavish hospitality. Croxton’s voice was very cold, as he replied to the other’s suggestion. “Those are the sort of things one does not permit oneself to speculate about, much less to discuss. ”For a second an angry gleam showed in the light blue eyes of Brookes. Not troubled with very refined feelings himself, he thought it was rank hypocrisy on the part of Richard to refuse to talk to a man of his own age about prospects upon which he must often have meditated. But the angry gleam passed away quickly. Archie Brookes was a very self-contained young man. He seldom allowed his temper to get the better of him, and he never indulged in sarcastic remarks."

A stunning inside look at how and why the foundations upon which China has built the world’s second largest economy, have started to crumble.

Over the course of a decade spent reporting in China as a financial journalist, Dinny McMahon came to the conclusion that the widely held belief in China’s inevitable economic ascent is dangerously wrong.

In this unprecedented deep dive, McMahon shows how, lurking behind the illusion of prosperity, China’s economic growth has been built on a staggering mountain of debt. While stories of newly built but empty cities, white elephant state projects, and a byzantine shadow banking system have all become a regular fixture in the press, McMahon goes beyond the headlines to explain how such waste has been allowed to flourish, and why one of the most powerful governments in the world has been at a loss to stop it.

Through the stories of ordinary Chinese citizens, McMahon tries to make sense of the uniqueーand often bizarreーmechanics of the nation’s economy, whether it be the state’s addiction to appropriating land from poor farmers; or why a Chinese entrepreneur decided it was cheaper to move his yarn factory to South Carolina; or why ambitious Chinese mayors build ghost cities; or why the Chinese bureaucracy was able to stare down Beijing’s attempts to break up the state’s pointless monopoly over table salt distribution.

Debt, entrenched vested interests, a frenzy of speculation, and an aging population are all pushing China toward an economic reckoning. China’s Great Wall of Debt unravels an incredibly complex and opaque economy, one whose fortunesーfor better or worseーwill shape the globe like never before.

Bait and Switch How Student Loan Debt Stifles Social Mobility【電子書籍】[ Robert H. Scott, III ]

This book traces how the student loan system has created insurmountable student debt traps for millions of student borrowers contrary to its original purpose of promoting social mobility. Today, approximately 45 million Americans hold over $1.7 trillion in student loan debt, with over 20% of borrowers in default. Student loan debt has the greatest negative impact of wealth-poor students, with Black and first-generation students less likely to attain a college degree, more likely to default on student loan debt, and less likely to gain the same type of wage premium from their college degrees than white student loan borrowers. The book also offers a wide range of policy solutions for remedying the student loan debt crisis.

Bankruptcy and Debt Collection in Liberal Capitalism Switzerland, 1800?1900【電子書籍】[ Mischa Suter ]

Drawing on perspectives from anthropology and social theory, this book explores the quotidian routines of debt collection in nineteenth-century capitalism. It focuses on Switzerland, an exemplary case of liberal rule. Debt collection and bankruptcy relied on received practices until they were standardized in a Swiss federal law in 1889. The vast array of these practices was summarized by the idiomatic Swiss legal term “Rechtstrieb” (literally, “law drive”). Analyzing these forms of summary justice opens a window to the makeshift economies and the contested political imaginaries of nineteenth-century everyday life. Ultimately, the book advances an empirically grounded and theoretically informed history of quotidian legal practices in the everyday economy; it is an argument for studying capitalism from the bottom up.
