With GPIO, user applications can process signals from various sensors and control external loads (relays, motors, etc.).＜/p＞ ＜p＞The only drawback is that Linux OS running on the Raspberry Pi is not suited for processing signals travelling via GPIO pins in real time. This prevents the Raspberry Pi from using in real-time applications that should process signals in a very short time. Meanwhile, Linux provides a powerful high-level environment for the development of GUI applications performing high-level data processing. It would be attractive to combine Linux high-level interfaces with real-time signal processing while building real-time applications.＜/p＞ ＜p＞One way to build real-time applications is to apply the combination of the Raspberry Pi and a stand-alone microcontroller (MCU) development board capable of performing real-time tasks.
