Latter-Day Pamphlets【電子書籍】[ Thomas Carlyle ]

Thomas Carlyle (4 December 1795 ? 5 February 1881) was a Scottish satirical writer, essayist, historian and teacher during the Victorian era.[1] He called economics "the dismal science", wrote articles for the Edinburgh Encyclopedia, and became a controversial social commentator.
Coming from a strict Calvinist family, Carlyle was expected to become a preacher by his parents, but while at the University of Edinburgh he lost his Christian faith. Calvinist values, however, remained with him throughout his life. His combination of a religious temperament with loss of faith in traditional Christianity, made Carlyle's work appealing to many Victorians who were grappling with scientific and political changes that threatened the traditional social order. He brought a trenchant style to his social and political criticism and a complex literary style to works such as The French Revolution: A History (1837). Dickens used Carlyle's work as a primary source for the events of the French Revolution in his novel A Tale of Two Cities.
-wikipedia

C. S. Lewis was an accomplished scholar, writer, and Christian apologist. His incredible insights and wonderful stories have long been a favorite of the LDS community, and he has been referenced thousands of times throughout LDS writings. Even Shakespeare pales in comparison to the number of times C. S. Lewis has been quoted by Mormon authors, scholars, and General Authorities to illustrate doctrinal truths.

Lewis had a knack of speaking for “every man” and gave us modern parables for Christian living. All can relate to his testimony of Christ and his practical understanding of how to put gospel teachings into practice today.

C. S. Lewis: Latter-day Truths in Narnia explores Lewis’s life, his writings, and his influence on LDS writers, scholars, and authorities. Lewis realized that life is more than what we see and deeper than what we feel. Preparing the Way For the World to Receive the Restored Gospel of Our Savior, Jesus Christ, in These Latter-Days【電子書籍】[ Barry A. Baker ]

“From small and simple to grand and glorious” sends an immediate message to many readers, but to those who do not instantly envision examples before them, Preparing the Way seeks to reveal elements of past, present, and future events, woven together to set the stage for the great and dreadful day of the Lord. This paradigm stage is set for all to discover.

One of the clearest principles of world history is that everything we see before us today had a small beginning somewhere, somehow, influenced by someone. Remarkably enough, these events have prepared the way for the restoration of the church that Jesus Himself organized in His day and age. Through miraculous occurrences, His church is again upon the earth to prepare the way for His second coming to preside over His kingdom for the one-thousand-year millennial rule and reignーJesus as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Thoroughly researched and supported, this study invites you to embrace the knowledge that the same church that Jesus organized in the ancient Holy Land has been restored to the earth.

Memoirs of a Prodigal Daughter: Returning to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints【電子書籍】[ Jane Starwood ]

Memoirs of a Prodigal Daughter: Returning to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the story of how and why one woman left the faith at age 19 and returned at age 74, fully recommitted to serving the Lord and His people. Like many Saints, I had doubts about the Church. I'm sure I could have weathered them if I'd nourished my testimony, but instead, I let it wither and die.

I wrote this memoir for people like myself, Latter-day Saints who let their doubts weaken their faith. It's also for those whose loved ones have left the Church, or whose faith is wavering. No matter how much you're troubled by doubts, and no matter how long you've been away, you can come back, even after half a century.

In prose and poems, spiritual insights, and personal revelations, I have tried to express in this book my deep joy and gratitude for my renewed faith. My hope and my prayer is that these words might touch many hearts and lead them home.

A LATTER-DAY SAINT ODE TO JESUS The Most Influential Person Who Ever Lived【電子書籍】[ EDWARD KENNETH WATSON ]

This book is the Latter-day Saint version of Ode to Jesus, the easiest way for you to learn the Scripture's real teachings about Jesus Christ. In mere seconds, you will know what it says about the most influential person in history. It does this by using hymns that benchmark true biblical doctrines in an easily remembered and understood way. For instance:

God made the universe through Christ.

Sire ordered; Son obeyed!

This reality came to be -

Father designed; Son made!

Just like that, you now know a critical biblical teaching: God the Father had his Son, Jesus Christ, create this massive universe. Here is another:

He humbled himself to be born.

The great God became man!

He emptied himself of glory.

From divine to mere man!

You now possess true biblical knowledge that makes it impossible for someone to deceive you. What you do with the knowledge is up to you. You can use it to believe the Bible's message and live a life of meaning and joy by becoming a person who loves God, loves your neighbor, loves yourself, and keeps God's commandments. Alternatively, you can restrict it to the intellectual satisfaction realm. But regardless of your choice, at least now, no one can fool you about what the Bible actually says about Jesus Christ.

This bookpartners passages from the Latter-day Scriptures (the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price) with the Holy Bible to show they teach the same doctrines. This version also explains why both the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon have subjective and objective pieces of evidence supporting the belief that God inspired them.

You owe it to yourself to know more about Jesus Christ. Even if you do not believe he is your Savior, he has improved your life in ways you cannot imagine. History has always been brutal and violent because our innate human nature values insiders more than outsiders (because you are human, you will always save the life of your young child over a stranger's). However, when Christians started applying Christ's moral teachings (empathetic morality, human dignity, and human equality) to national laws, they discovered something the world had never seen before: Natural Rights.

Natural rights, such as your right to life, liberty, physical security, equality, and freedom of religion, are your most important rights. You have them just for being human. No government gave them to you; good governments recognize that you have them and respect them. They make you and your worst enemy equal. They make the weakest outsider equal to the most powerful insider. However, natural rights cannot exist without standing on Christ's moral teaching because nothing objective supports them. Remove the foundation, and the concept collapses, standards become arbitrary, and laws become changeable on the whim of whoever is in charge. Tyranny returns, resulting in calamity for the rest of us.

Applying Christ's words also resulted in the modern Western world and its products. There is little doubt that the contemporary STEM world could have never existed without the Christian milieu's influence.

Most importantly of all, Jesus gave us the answer to living a life of meaning and happiness, regardless of the evil we experience:

? LOVE GOD

? LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR

? LOVE YOURSELF

? KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS

What explains Jesus Christ and his outsized positive influence on humanity? Is he our God who became human flesh who then suffered and died for us? Or was he just a deluded preacher who got lucky?

Jesus's Crucifixion Hurricane: the mighty rushing wind of the latter rain, being the shockwave begun at the Last Supper.【電子書籍】[ Joseph Edward Bonnette ]

This ebook contains in it an explanation of how Jesus Christ was crucified, who is the Son of Adonai: who is Jehovah the Father & how this effected him who is God. As he was also crucified with his Son, receiving the wounds sin caused him while being the blood to clot the wounds of our sins. Though none of us lived at the time of the crucifixion, I cover how it all happened & is presently applicable. It begins mentioning my aspiring organisation, then the prayer I wrote on a business card. This is on the cover only, with an illustrated outline of the front of the shroud of Turin to show certain images on it. There is in the book a rundown of the basic images I discovered on this burial cloth, which are highly interesting to me, such as the police-like badge on his forehead, Michael the angel on the neck, the glorified Jesus on the chest, with a drumstick design as shown on the digital drawing on the left side of his chest over the heart area. Also, (on the backside) the image of God over the crown of thorns in a profile & also a full frontal view, then the image of the devil’s face at the end of the Rabbinic haircut of Jesus, then the devil’s face again in the lake of fire over the lower back of Jesus.

ーーー- I have in it a fully numbered copy of the REVELATION, showing KJV has 12,000 words, & how each word is separately numbered, also numbering the 404 verses, with some very interesting places to where these numbers land. Then I added Prayer for Christian Graces, with verse references to each prayer petition in it. This is from the book found in google books called “admonition to unconverted sinners,” in the “collection of family prayers,” by Joseph Alleine. Then I have following this “PRAYER FOR THE USA & ALL NATIONS,” after which I wrote a piece called “meaning of the U.S. flag & American eagle.”

I can’t pretend to explain much in this succinct preview, but this ebook basically covers chapters 1,2 & 3 of Revelation, which is highly packed with as many insights as I could manage to fit into it, while trying not to be redundant or overly detailed. One of the highlight areas I spent a lot of special effort on, is REVELATION 1:13-16, which I also coincided with my study of the glorified image of Jesus on the chest area of the shroud of Turin. After the 3rd chapter of Revelation, I go into what I call the “hem” or the “train that filled the temple,” ISAIAH6:1, which to me also represents the added prayers we must make to God before & after the reciting & studying of the Holy Bible. It begins with what I call the “AREA 51” of the Holy Bible, which is Psalm 51, or also called the KEY OF DAVID in Rev-3:7 & ISAIAH22:22.

ーーー-It then follows with PSALM 91, then PSALM 23, which are in a paraphrase/commentary format. PSALM 51 is my biggest area of personal expertise. The ebook ends with my instructions on how to take the Lord’s supper, (God Willing) with 2 or more agreeing Christians in “cell” groups. 1JOHN-3:14 tells us we are passed from death to life because we love the brethren, meaning all Christians & seekers of God.

I explain in the ebook how Jesus crucified is the true “big bang” which is now creating the new universe of the whole of creation, & “the restoring of the joy of our salvation," PSALM-51:12 which we had with God when we were chosen in Christ, EPH1:4, but cannot experience it unless we are born again. God makes all things new, & transforms us by the renewal of our minds, as well as creates all things through his word which is an ongoing rebirth like his mercies which are new every morning, LAM3:23, as we “come to revelations in Christ.” 2COR12:1.

A Young Folks' History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints【電子書籍】[ Nephi Anderson ]

According to Wikipedia: "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often colloquially referred to as the Mormon Church, a term the organization itself discourages) is the largest denomination originating from the Latter Day Saint movement founded by Joseph Smith, Jr., on April 6, 1830. The church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has established congregations (called wards or branches) worldwide. As of 2007, the church reported just over 13 million members on its rolls. Based on this number, it is the fourth largest Christian denomination in the United States. Adherentsーusually referred to as Latter-day Saints, LDS, or Mormonsーare restorationist Christians and are not a part of the Catholicism, Orthodox, or Protestant traditions. Like other Restorationist organizations, the LDS Church teaches that after the events described in the New Testament, there was a Great Apostasy, or "falling away" from the true Christian faith and priesthood. The church teaches that this true faith and priesthood were restored to Joseph Smith, Jr. through Smith's prophecy and the visitation of angels in the early 1800s. Thus, the church teaches that it is the only organization on the Earth with authority to conduct valid Christian sacraments ("ordinances") such as baptism or the Eucharist (called by LDS the "Sacrament"). The church also practices other sacraments, said to have been restored or instituted by Joseph Smith, such as Celestial marriage."

Latter-day Saint Essentials【電子書籍】[ Various authors ]

Here is a very useful collection of articles that clearly explain the essential teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This anthology gives a sensitive introduction to the religious life of Latter-day Saints and what it means to be a committed follower of Christ in the Mormon tradition. The contents have been newly arranged under the convenient headings of Christianity, Church History, Scriptures, Basic Beliefs, Church Structure and Culture, and Comparative Studies.

When the editors of Macmillan Publishing Company approached Brigham Young University in 1987 with the proposal of producing the Encyclopedia of Mormonism, they wanted to create a lasting resource that would help unfamiliar readers understand LDS history, scripture, doctrine, organization, and culture. They insisted that the articles be written by creditable scholars who were also trustworthy articulators of Latter-day Saint feelings. In order to know what Mormons believe, it seemed sensible to ask Latter-day Saints themselves.

The articles in this ebook are selected from the 1,300 articles in Macmillan's Encyclopedia of Mormonism. Some of these entries describe key topics that are central to the beliefs or characteristics that Latter-day Saints most fervently cherish. Others address the most basic points of LDS doctrine and practice. This selection of articles offers students of religion everywhere a concise understanding of the essentials of the Latter-day Saint faith.

"To Moderate and Unify" The Role That Latter-day Saint Citizen-Rhetors Can Play in Healing American Political Discourse【電子書籍】[ Kristine Hansen ]

President Oaks’s two General Conference sermons on politics and the rule of law in October 2020 and April 2021 constitute a warning and a charge to Latter-day Saints. The warning is to beware the dangers of anger and hatred that lead to political division. The charge is to do all we can to defend the Constitution of the United States in particular and constitutional government, the rule of law, and successful political processes in general, so that we can heal the rifts in society and continue to have functioning governments. This charge will be fulfilled in great part by taking upon ourselves the obligation to “moderate and unify” (President Oaks’s words) with political opponents whenever contested issues threaten to drive us further apart. Hansen lays out a three-part approach for ordinary citizens to use when engaging in political rhetoric with friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens.

The Messiah Question The Tanakh, the Old Testament, and the Latter Scriptures【電子書籍】[ Will J. Harris ]

For the last two thousand years, three unanswerable questions have perplexed Jewish religious scholars:

When will Messiah appear? (Jews, in general, do not believe He has come.)

Why were the Jews dispersed from their nation for two thousand years? (Israel’s statehood was only recently restored, in 1948.)

When in the biblical timeline does Messiah appear? (Again, most Jews are still waiting for Messiah to come the first time.)

The Messiah Question answers each question by exploring the Tanakh (Jewish Bible), historical rabbinical commentary, “Latter Scriptures” (New Testament), and Bible prophecies, explaining Messiah’s appearance in both the Tanakh and rabbinical texts.

Thus The Messiah Question is a great witnessing tool for Messianic Jews or Gentile believers seeking to reach unbelieving Jews for Yeshua (Jesus). It will amplify your knowledge of the Old Testament and fortify your faith in God’s plan for humanity.

The Power of Stillness: Mindful Living for Latter-day Saints【電子書籍】[ Jacob Z. Hess ]

Latter-day Saints are great at getting things done. But sometimes an excessive focus on “doing more” can take us to a place where we’re mostly going through the motionsーand missing the deep, rich spiritual power that can come from being still. Using Latter-day Saint vernacular and examples, The Power of Stillness explores ways in which mindfulness can help deepen our conversion to the gospel. Infusing our homes with more stillness, silence, and space can reinvigorate the joy inherent in our faith and help us feel calmer, more present and engaged in our lives, and more spiritually connected to our Savior.

Praise for The Power of Stillness

There seems to be a lot of buzz about stillness these daysーan interesting paradox. Sadly, our world has pitted religion against spirituality as we strive to live more mindfully. This book reminds us we need both! We don't leave the Church in search of stillness. We find it within our covenant relationship with Christ. Take a break from the crazy business of life and read this book. You will be glad you did.
ーBrad Wilcox, BYU professor and author of The Continuous Atonement and Changed through His Grace

Historically, contemplation (or meditation) has played a crucial role in Christian life and faith. This book represents an important step toward bringing this vitalizing spiritual practice back into view in the restored gospel.
ーThomas McConkie, Founder, Lower Lights School of Wisdom

The Power of Stillness is changing how I relate to my physical and emotional suffering, my work and my weakness, my most loving and my most troubling relationships, and my deepest spiritual struggles and longings. That’s a lot to ask of one book. This one delivers. The book helps us build a crucial spiritual skill most of us don’t even know we lack: the ability to be resiliently, compassionately presentーwith ourselves, with others, and with God.
ーWendy Ulrich, PhD, author of Live Up to Our Privileges: Women, Power, and Priesthood

Crossing the Divide: From Baptist to Latter-day Saint【電子書籍】[ Bryan Ready ]

Thousands of people are baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints every week. In many ways, Bryan Ready’s story is no different than any other convert-except that Bryan was an ordained Southern Baptist Pastor with a formal theological education. He firmly believed that Joseph Smith was a false prophet.

In 1979, Bryan and his mother were driving home from a fireside featuring members of the Osmond Family. He had listened to their testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was impressed. He turned to his mother and said, “Mom, I want to be a Mormon.” Her answer was a firm and adamant “No!”

Over the next thirty-five years, Bryan became a committed follower of Jesus Christ-and a staunch anti-Mormon. But then things changed. His heart began to soften as he opened his mind to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. His faith would face the ultimate test of conviction-to quit his ministry and seek baptism.

This is Bryan’s story.
