Latter-Day Pamphlets【電子書籍】[ Thomas Carlyle ]

Thomas Carlyle (4 December 1795 ? 5 February 1881) was a Scottish satirical writer, essayist, historian and teacher during the Victorian era.[1] He called economics "the dismal science", wrote articles for the Edinburgh Encyclopedia, and became a controversial social commentator.
Coming from a strict Calvinist family, Carlyle was expected to become a preacher by his parents, but while at the University of Edinburgh he lost his Christian faith. Calvinist values, however, remained with him throughout his life. His combination of a religious temperament with loss of faith in traditional Christianity, made Carlyle's work appealing to many Victorians who were grappling with scientific and political changes that threatened the traditional social order. He brought a trenchant style to his social and political criticism and a complex literary style to works such as The French Revolution: A History (1837). Dickens used Carlyle's work as a primary source for the events of the French Revolution in his novel A Tale of Two Cities.
-wikipedia

President M. Russell Ballard counselled, “We need to listen to and understand what our LGBT brothers and sisters are feeling and experiencing. Certainly, we must do better than we have done in the past so that all members feel they have a spiritual home where their brothers and sisters love them and where they have a place to worship and serve the Lord” (BYU Devotional, November 14, 2017). A Walk in My Shoes: Questions I’m Often Asked as a Gay Latter-day Saint invites readers to act upon that counsel by following the journey of Ben Schilaty, a licensed therapist and BYU Honor Code administrator, as he works to reconcile his faith with his sexual orientation.

Each chapter in the book focuses on a question that the author is often asked which he answers using stories from his life and gospel principles. Questions include: Were you born gay? Why do you stay in the Church? Why don’t you marry a woman if marriage is about more than sex? Readers are invited to experience various steps of Ben’s journey with him. A Walk in My Shoes allows readers a glimpse into the life of a single, gay, active Latter-day Saint and provides examples of how they can support and minister to their LGBTQ loved ones.

What were Spencer W. Kimball's emotions on the eve of the throat operation that virtually took away his voice for the last thirty years of his life? What advice did Charles A. What did President Theodore Roosevelt have to say to Reed Smoot, U.S. Senator and member of the Quorum of the Twelve?

In this inspiring and thought-provoking collection of letters, you will get a glimpse into the personal lives, thoughts, and feelings of many prominent members of the Church--a rare view that is not often seen from the pulpit or in history books.

'I dream about you almost every night,' wrote young Diantha Clayton to her husband, William, who was required to go west while she stayed behind to await the birth of their first baby. 'To tell you I want to see you is useless yet true; you are constantly in my mind.'

Investigators of the Church in Nigeria in the 1960s sent a touching letter to the Missionary department, expressing their testimonies and asking to have the Church officially organized in their country. The sweet spirit of the letter was not obscured by the author's somewhat limited familiarity with English grammar and spelling: 'We have the please to inform you of our satisfaction on the restored gosple of Christ as testify by the secred book of mormon which was reveal through vision to his holiness the Prophet Joseph Smith.'

These carefully selected letters, over half of which have never before been published, will provide hours of uplifting reading. Each letter has an introduction to put it in context, as well as a summary of events in the lives of the correspondents. Biographical summaries at the end of the book provide further valuable information.

A Treasury of Latter-day Saint Letters is a rare offering that will provide excellent material for talks and lessons, encouragement in times of difficulty, and the pure joy of inspiring reading. The Perfect Dental Consultation The Eight Essential Steps to increasing treatment plan acceptance【電子書籍】[ Ashley Latter ]

Having outstanding clinical skills is essential, but if you can't communicate treatment plans effectively to your patients, you will end up with many outstanding treatment plans. Many dentists invest heavily in developing their technical skills but don't always achieve the success they deserve due to communication barriers and mindset challenges. When dentists communicate with patients, they often use overly technical language that can confuse rather than clarify. This can lead to undervaluing their services in their minds, resulting in undercharging, or advising patients to "think it over" at home, which can delay decision-making. This book introduces an eight-step proven approach designed to help you strengthen your relationships with patients, ask insightful questions to uncover new opportunities, and present treatment plans in a compelling way that encourages patients to act promptly. Additionally, the book will share success strategies from countless dentists whom Ashley has trained over the last three decades. These insights will help you overcome self-imposed barriers and unlock your full potential.

Finding My Way A Latter-day Pilgrim, an Ancient Path, a Closer Walk with Christ【電子書籍】[ Chris Huston ]

Finding My Way: A Latter-day Pilgrim, an Ancient Path, a Closer Walk with Christ, is the true first-person story of the remarkable but unlikely spiritual journey of an LDS couple walking the 500-mile Camino de Santiago in northern Spain--a path normally traveled by Catholic pilgrims. It began as an idea to kick-off retirement but quickly became much more. The book desribes the deep and life-changing spiritual experiences and insights that came with the difficult path through deserts, cities, and over five mountain ranges. The experience of moving outside the "bubble" of the LDS faith fundamentally changed their attitudes towards the "humble followers" of other churches, towards the church to which they belong. Along the way they learned in a profound way that the edges of their comfort zones are nowhere near the limits of their endurance.

This latter-day pilgrimage changed their lives forever. An Analysis of William Wordsworth's Preface to The Lyrical Ballads【電子書籍】[ Alex Latter ]

Central to the creative process of the Romantic poets that followed him, Wordsworth’s Preface to the Lyrical Ballads has been both a gift and a thorn in the side of critics for over a century. Readers find themselves drawn back to the essay repeatedly as they seek to untangle the ideas and contradictions within it. The Preface is a statement of Wordsworth’s poetic vision and offers an explanation of the poetic process behind the poems, which fused the rusticity of the ballad form with the psychological introspection of modernity.

But to the generation of Romantic writers that emerged in its wake, the Preface announced a new understanding of the creative process and of the high purposes of poetry: to reveal the human condition, and to awaken in its readers the profoundest emotions and the most enduring truths of existence.

Latter-day Saint Theology among Christian Theologies【電子書籍】[ Grant Underwood ]
|

How do the beliefs of Latter-day Saints compare with traditional Christian theology?

Grant Underwood provides answers to this question that are clear, detailed, and thoughtful. Writing for a broad and interested Christian audience, he systematically brings Mormon thought into conversation with main currents of Christian theology. He focuses on major topics that have engaged Christian thinkers over the years: who God is, who Jesus Christ is, who we are, how we are saved, what the church is, and what the future holds for human history as well as for individual human lives. Most chapters follow a format in which relevant themes are introduced with an overview of significant Christian reflection on the topic followed by an exploration of Latter-day Saint thought on the subject.

Throughout the book, Underwood's goal is to analyze, not catechize. While the author is a practicing Latter-day Saint, that reality only enhances his appreciation for the theology produced by centuries of fellow Christians of faith who in Anselm's words have diligently and devoutly "sought understanding." Underwood seeks to facilitate mutual understanding among Christians who may worship differently, who conceive of God and God's relations with humanity differently, and who articulate their religious beliefs in terms and concepts that are unfamiliar to each other. Readers of this book are invited to approach its sympathetic presentation of such Christian theologies, including that of the Latter-day Saints, with an openness and curiosity that can lead to a more accurate, nuanced understanding of the doctrines discussed.

From Exclusion, Toward Embrace Latter-Day Saint and Traditional Christian Thought Through the Lens of the Lord's Prayer【電子書籍】[ Bill Heersink ]
|

On the four corner lots formed by the intersecting of Main and Church Streets in Palmyra, NY, one finds four large Protestant churches today. Two centuries ago on the Smith family farm a few blocks to the south, a teenage Joseph Jr. found himself caught in the rivalry between such churches contentiously competing to claim the allegiance of repentant converts from the most recent revival. He wrote that, while praying in a grove of trees a short walk from his log cabin home, “I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong.” He would go on to organize a new church, whichーironicallyーwould soon claim to be “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth.”
Over the years Protestant denominational loyalties and exclusivity claims have faded and expressions of mutual embrace are not uncommon. However, the lines between these churches and the one founded by Joseph Smith Jr.ーThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintsーhave remained stark and at times harsh.
How does Jesus Christ, himself, perceive this excluding of one another? In the Lord’s prayer recorded in John 17, Jesus appears to anticipate these divisions arising among his would-be followers. So he prays repetitively and passionately that they be protected from these. At stake is the validity of their witness to the world of his own exclusive claims. To be sure, differing beliefs as to what those claims are should not be superficially dismissed. But, in the light of how Jesus prayed, should they not be honestly and prayerfully discussed in a mutually respectful way?
To stimulate and facilitate this discussion is the intent of this book, using as our guide the simple but profound petitions Jesus taught us in the more well-known Lord’s Prayer.

“I came to know and admire Bill Heersink in a formal theological dialogue between Evangelical Christians and Latter-day Saints. Bill has chosen to look carefully at the beliefs of Evangelicals and Latter-day Saints through the lens of a scriptural passage beloved by both groupsーthe Lord’s Prayer. And how better could we hope to achieve unity of purpose and ‘convicted civility’ than through Jesus Christ?”
ーRobert L. Millet is Professor Emeritus of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University, where he served as Dean of Religious Education.

“Bill Heersink, seminary professor and participant in many dialogues, brings his most irenic and upbeat spirit to this gem of a book. Fully abreast of the most important academic questions, the book nevertheless wears its learning lightly and at times reads more like a devotional. Warmly to be commended to all readers of any or no faith communities.”
ーCraig L. Blomberg is Distinguished Professor of New Testament at Denver Seminary and co-author of the groundbreaking book How Wide the Divide? A Mormon and an Evangelical in Conversation.

“Having lived in Utah among the Latter-day Saints for many years, the author affirms his own deeply Christian beliefs while respectfully seeking to reconcile differences between Mormon and Protestant theology and beliefs.”
ーRichard E. Bennett is Professor of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University and former President of the
Mormon History Association.

“Bill has brought all of that experience to the writing of a book that expresses a pastor’s heart, a love of Mormon neighbors, theological savvy, and a Christ-centered spirituality … a book that evangelical pastors and Mormon bishops can recommend with confidence.”
ーRichard J. Mouw was President of Fuller Theological Seminary,1993-2012.

The Latter Rain Covenant【電子書籍】[ David Wesley Myland ]

|

Early in the American Pentecostal outpouring an early Pioneer of American Pentecostalism coined the term ‘latter rain’ to refer to what was happening in Los Angeles at Azusa Street. In 1910 David Wesley Myland wrote this book “The Latter Rain Covenant” in which he attempted to compare the physical rainfall in Israel with the manifestations of the Holy Spirit at Azusa and in Pentecostal churches. The material of this book was initially published by Wm. Hamner Piper, pastor of the famous ‘Stone Church,’ in Chicago, IL., in his magazine called “The Latter Rain Evangel.”
Myland's book was the first attempt to see the Pentecostal experience as a fulfilment of the ‘latter rain’ references of the Old Testament is one of the first defences of Pentecostalism. D. Wesley Myland is, therefore, the person who coined the term “Latter Rain Movement.”

For books similar to this one enter 'Pentecostal Pioneers' in the Search box.

A young folks' history Of the Church of jesus christ of latter-day saints by Nephi anderson

-This ebook Included TOC for Reader.

-This sample in this ebook ;

You will all be interested in knowing what was written on the plates which the prophet Joseph Smith received from the angel Moroni, so in this chapter I will tell you very briefly. Some time you will want to read the whole book, which of course is the better way.

You have read in your histories and geographies that ruins of great cities have been found in many places in America, showing that at one time there were people here more civilized than the Indians. The writings on these plates told the history of these peoples.

Six hundred years before Christ was born, there lived in the city of Jerusalem a prophet by the name of Lehi. He had at that time four sons, Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi. The Lord told Lehi that because of the wickedness of the city, it would soon be destroyed, and if he wished to be saved he must take his family and travel into the wilderness. This Lehi did. They went south-eastward until they got to the sea where they built a ship in which to cross to a promised land. While camping in the wilderness Lehi sent his sons back to Jerusalem to get some records of their forefathers, and it was through the faithfulness of Nephi that this was done.

|

The Heinkel He 111 was the main workhorse of the Luftwaffes bomber force throughout much of the Second World War. Consequently, when Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa in June 1941, three entire Kampfgeschwader consisted of He 111s. Initially used as direct support for the German ground forces, as the campaign progressed the He 111 was switched to attacking the Soviet infrastructure, particularly trains and marshaling yards, and used as a transport aircraft taking in supplies and for troop evacuation. Variants of the He 111 were used in anti-shipping roles, in both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and even for aerial launching of V-1 flying bombs, continuing the war against the towns and cities of the United Kingdom. In this selection of unrivaled images collected over many years, and now part of Frontline's new War in the Air series, the operations of this famous aircraft in the latter years of the Second World War are portrayed and brought to life. Ports to Posts Latter-day Saint Gathering in the Nineteenth Century【電子書籍】[ Fred E. Woods ]
|

Ports to Posts is the result of more than a quarter century of research in Latter-day Saint migration narratives from the nineteenth century. Fred E. Woods takes the reader from early church beginnings in upstate New York to ecclesiastical gathering places in Kirtland, Ohio, and Jackson County, Missouri. The journey then incorporates international European ports to Latter-day Saint gathering locations in Nauvoo, Illinois, and later in the Salt Lake Valley during the peak of this emigrant era.

Through these stories, the reader will learn about the missionary proselyting process and how it led converts to Liverpool, the primary place of embarkation, across the Atlantic, and into harbors at New Orleans, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. Authentic voices describe the challenges church members faced as they left their homelands and endured storms and the efforts of enemies who tried to dissuade them from their destinations. Ports to Posts captures not only the emigrants’ journeys but also how Americans perceived these often unwanted pilgrims. Woods’s research reveals the purpose and process by which Latter-day Saints gathered to create their American Zion and converts’ solemn obligation to assemble in American gathering places.
