Joseph Smith did not simply proclaim he had a different understanding of Christian religion; central to his teachings were the numerous angelic visitations through which important keys and teachings were delivered. Joseph also had incredible visions of the future, the Resurrection, and the Final Judgment. Some of Joseph’s many visitations and visions would eventually be canonized as Doctrine and Covenants 13, 76, and 137. This book focuses on these miraculous visitations and revelatory visions, their implications for Latter-day Saint doctrine, and their potential application to modern Saints and the broader world.

A Case for Latter-Day Christianity Evidences for the Restoration of the New Testament’s “Mere” Christian Church【電子書籍】[ Robert Starling ]

Can a Mormon be a Christian? How does that work? That’s the idea behind this personal book by Robert Starling, a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who grew up in the heart of the Bible Belt. Some folks there (and elsewhere) believe that Mormons are members of a non-Christian “cult”. Robert’s purpose for this book is not to convert anyone, but to give his “strong reasons” to dispel that misconception. As a child of converts to Mormonism whose uncle is a retired Methodist pastor, Robert has a unique perspective to share with Mormons and non-Mormons alike. He attended a Baptist vacation Bible school as a child (and so did his own children) and his best friend in college at Georgia Tech was the president of the Catholic student Newman Club. Having resided in Utah for twenty years where he worked as a media producer for the LDS Church at its worldwide headquarters, Robert has lived “really inside Mormonism” for decades. While Robert is not an official spokesman for the LDS Church, he has trained local church leaders in how to work with news media. He’s been active in defending his faith from critics (he’s been sued by them twice for a total of $30 million) and sharing his knowledge with anyone interested in learning what Mormons really believe. For instance: Do Mormons believe in a “different” Jesus? What do Mormons believe about the Trinity? How are Mormons “saved”? Do Mormons baptize dead people? Is there only “one true church”? What happens in Mormon temples? Do Mormons wear “magic underwear”? Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith? Is the Bible God’s word for Mormons? Do Mormons want to become like God? What kind of evidences does Robert use to make his case? Whether you’re a Mormon or not, you’ll be surprised. Take a look inside and find out! JOHNNY RUN LATELY: The Life and Adventures of a Latter Day Sprint Champion【電子書籍】[ John Hurd ]

This is the true story of John Hurd, who was born in a tarpaper shack, the son of a sharecropper in Tennessee. He was the fourth of five children who lost their father in a highway incident when the youngest was barely two months old. With the help of relatives, the family held together until all had finished school and the two youngest obtained college degrees.

The story follows John through his service in the US Navy during the Korean War, his college experiences, and into the corporate world with the IBM Corporation. He even has a chapter devoted to his 15 years with the punch card voting system. So if you think you know what was really going in south Florida with the presidential election in 2000, you may want to read about some truths you probably did not know.

Having been much too small to compete in team sports in school, John took up sprinting in the National Senior Games (aka The Senior Olympics), at the age of 61. His dream was to get in shape, improve his overall health and fitness, and perhaps one day win a medal at the state level.

The story chronicles every event and the physical challenges encountered, with his devoted wife, Sandy, encouraging him all the way, even during the times when he did not especially want to be encouraged.

At the age of 81 John had won 60 gold medals in six different states, been inducted into the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame, been named Amateur Athlete of the Year by the Pensacola (FL) Sports Association, and in 2013 won four out of four gold medals at the National Senior Games Championships.

At the insistence of family and friends John authored this, his first book, in hopes that others might be encouraged to get off the couch and find the time to dust off a dream or two that they may have put aside.

"To Moderate and Unify" The Role That Latter-day Saint Citizen-Rhetors Can Play in Healing American Political Discourse【電子書籍】[ Kristine Hansen ]

President Oaks’s two General Conference sermons on politics and the rule of law in October 2020 and April 2021 constitute a warning and a charge to Latter-day Saints. The warning is to beware the dangers of anger and hatred that lead to political division. The charge is to do all we can to defend the Constitution of the United States in particular and constitutional government, the rule of law, and successful political processes in general, so that we can heal the rifts in society and continue to have functioning governments. This charge will be fulfilled in great part by taking upon ourselves the obligation to “moderate and unify” (President Oaks’s words) with political opponents whenever contested issues threaten to drive us further apart. Hansen lays out a three-part approach for ordinary citizens to use when engaging in political rhetoric with friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens.

The Messiah Question The Tanakh, the Old Testament, and the Latter Scriptures【電子書籍】[ Will J. Harris ]

For the last two thousand years, three unanswerable questions have perplexed Jewish religious scholars:

When will Messiah appear? (Jews, in general, do not believe He has come.)

Why were the Jews dispersed from their nation for two thousand years? (Israel's statehood was only recently restored, in 1948.)

When in the biblical timeline does Messiah appear? (Again, most Jews are still waiting for Messiah to come the first time.)

The Messiah Question answers each question by exploring the Tanakh (Jewish Bible), historical rabbinical commentary, "Latter Scriptures" (New Testament), and Bible prophecies, explaining Messiah's appearance in both the Tanakh and rabbinical texts.

Thus The Messiah Question is a great witnessing tool for Messianic Jews or Gentile believers seeking to reach unbelieving Jews for Yeshua (Jesus). It will amplify your knowledge of the Old Testament and fortify your faith in God's plan for humanity.

The Power of Stillness: Mindful Living for Latter-day Saints【電子書籍】[ Jacob Z. Hess ]

Latter-day Saints are great at getting things done. But sometimes an excessive focus on “doing more” can take us to a place where we’re mostly going through the motionsーand missing the deep, rich spiritual power that can come from being still. Using Latter-day Saint vernacular and examples, The Power of Stillness explores ways in which mindfulness can help deepen our conversion to the gospel. Infusing our homes with more stillness, silence, and space can reinvigorate the joy inherent in our faith and help us feel calmer, more present and engaged in our lives, and more spiritually connected to our Savior.

Praise for The Power of Stillness

There seems to be a lot of buzz about stillness these daysーan interesting paradox. Sadly, our world has pitted religion against spirituality as we strive to live more mindfully. This book reminds us we need both! We don't leave the Church in search of stillness. We find it within our covenant relationship with Christ. Take a break from the crazy business of life and read this book. You will be glad you did.
ーBrad Wilcox, BYU professor and author of The Continuous Atonement and Changed through His Grace

Historically, contemplation (or meditation) has played a crucial role in Christian life and faith. This book represents an important step toward bringing this vitalizing spiritual practice back into view in the restored gospel.
ーThomas McConkie, Founder, Lower Lights School of Wisdom

The Power of Stillness is changing how I relate to my physical and emotional suffering, my work and my weakness, my most loving and my most troubling relationships, and my deepest spiritual struggles and longings. That’s a lot to ask of one book. This one delivers. The book helps us build a crucial spiritual skill most of us don’t even know we lack: the ability to be resiliently, compassionately presentーwith ourselves, with others, and with God.
ーWendy Ulrich, PhD, author of Live Up to Our Privileges: Women, Power, and Priesthood

The 1929 Kelsey Quilters The brave sisters, who found a safe place to worship, and raise families in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the faithful missionaries that served them.【電子書籍】[ Beverly Burnett Hamberlin ]

A true story of how a 1929 quilt was found in the closet of Mary Cannon and Hamberlin. It was folded over a strong hanger along with 22 extra blocks, covered in plastic. It was sent to the only relative that the daughters thought might know who the women were who had made it.

The woman they sent it to was a converts to the church. She had done the family history of both her husband and herself. She had been to Kelsey and met some of the women. Her love of family history and temple work led her to discover the history of 46 women who not only made quilts together but had been related to each other and to her and her husband's family.

The women were all converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of latter day Saints from the southern states in the late 1800s and early 1900s they had all come together in a place called Kelsey, which became the mother colony of the church in Texas. Wilford Woodruff encouraged the Saints to stay in Texas and not make the move to Salt Lake. They even sent missionaries to Kelsey to oversee the education of these new saints.

The personal histories of these women helped her to overcome the loss of her husband and strengthen her testimony of Jesus Christ so much that she knew that she had to share it with others and their families. as she researches, she meets others who, love these women too.

Their stories also helped her to remember and record her memories, and maybe it will help others do the same.

Refreshing of the Latter Rains Revival and Awakenings Volume Two【電子書籍】[ Riaan Engelbrecht ]

Volumes one and two of Revival and Awakenings (part of the End-Time Series) explore what is a real revival and a spiritual awakening. Prophetically, it delves into what God has been saying for a long time, which is that the Lord will sweep the earth with revival in the end times which will ignite many followers with His holy fire. What will this revival look like? This is the big question, and one would rather say it will not be a singular event, but a sequence of Godly movements across the globe that will be infectious, contagious and real. In an awakening, the Holy Spirit gives unbelieving people - who are dead in their trespasses and sins -a new awareness of their needs. A revival is connected to the people of God and it is when those who are in churches - those who are professing believers - are ministered to by the Holy Spirit in such a way that they are renewed in their devotion to the Lord. The time is ripe for the one final great harvest, yet this calls for the revived church, full of the fire of the Holy Spirit, to go into the fields, to awaken the lost and the forgotten and broken, and to bring them into the loving embrace of a God who is full of compassion, grace and mercy. This is the time of spiritual latter rains, and now is the time to welcome the embrace of a God who is real, alive, and who calls us all into His arms to reflect His beauty and greatness. It is not God’s Will that any soul should perish, but that all men should come to the knowledge of God and be saved. God is calling on all believers to cast their net in the deep for the harvest of souls.

Mormon Christianity: What Other Christians Can Learn From the Latter-day Saints What Other Christians Can Learn From the Latter-day Saints【電子書籍】[ Stephen H. Webb ]

Mormons are adamant that they are Christian, and eloquent writers within their own faith have tried to make this case, but no theologian outside the LDS church has ever tried to demonstrate just how Christian they are. Stephen H. Webb's Mormon Christianity: What Other Christians Can Learn from the Latter-day Saints fills this void, as the author writes neither as a critic nor a defender of Mormonism but as a sympathetic observer who is deeply committed to engaging with Mormon ideas. Webb is unique in taking Mormon theology seriously by showing how it provides plausible and in some instances even persuasive alternatives to many traditional Christian doctrines. His book can serve as an introduction to Mormonism, but it goes far beyond that: Webb explains how Mormonism is a branch of the Christian family tree that extends well beyond what most Christians have ever imagined. His account of their creative appropriation of the Christian tradition is meant to inspire more traditional Christians to reconsider the shape of many basic Christian beliefs. Mormon Christianity is not all affirming and celebratory. It ends with a call to Mormons to be more focused on Christian essentials and an invitation to other Christians to be more imaginative in considering Mormon alternatives to traditional doctrines.

I Will Send My Messenger An Introduction to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints【電子書籍】[ C. Paul Smith ]

No other Christian denomination makes the bold claims made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintsーthat resurrected apostles of Jesus visited Joseph Smith and conferred their apostolic authority upon him; that a resurrected, ancient American prophet named Moroni visited Joseph Smith and delivered a volume of ancient scripture to him; that God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph Smith; and that through the prophet Joseph Smith, God has now set up His kingdom on the earth. I Will Send My Messenger presents a lucid and forthright introduction to Mormonism, relating how the rise of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the fulfillment of Malachi’s prophecy that God would send his messenger to the earth in the last days to prepare the world for the Lord’s second coming. Many of the prophets foretold of this latter-day messenger and of the great latter-day restoration that God’s messengers would bring to pass. The Lord Jesus Christ spoke of it; so did the apostles, Peter, Paul and John; so did the prophets Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel and Joel. Mormonism is in full harmony with the teachings of the Bibleーdespite the claims of its outspoken criticsーand the world is invited to learn the truth before condemning the faith. The testimony of Joseph Smith and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is that Jesus is the Savior of the world and that God speaks from heaven to give messages to humankind todayーmessages whose importance to all the world is unsurpassed.

The Sermon on the Mount in Latter-day Scripture The 39th Annual BYU Sidney B. Sperry Symposium【電子書籍】[ Sperry Symposium ]

It is easy to love those who love us, but how do we treat those with whom we have differences? How do we respond toward political adversaries, athletic rivals, unkind neighbors, insensitive friends or family members, business associates who speak evil of us, insensitive or incompetent leaders, or critic of our religious or moral beliefs? These are among the many questions answered in this thoughtful study of the Sermon on the Mount.

The Sermon on the Mount has been described as the greatest sermon ever given. It contains both timeless truths and timely advice for the challenging circumstances of our day. It is a divine call to a higher righteousness. It is an invitation to an enlightened obedience and an elevated discipleship that incorporates the spirit of the law and invites all to become better acquainted with their Lord and be partakers of the heavenly gift.

“The teachings of Jesus Christ provide profound understanding and distinct direction concerning the relationship of good and evil in God's plan for the redemption of his children. In addition to discussing the origin of evil and its meaning from a variety of scriptural, prophetic, and scholarly sources, this paper includes an examination of the Savior's teachings in the Sermon on the Mount concerning humankind's response to evil.” &mdash Daniel K Judd (keynote speaker)

The Sermon on the Mount “has inspired and lifted millions of people throughout the globe and through the centuries, but it has special relevance to those who have come out of the world by covenant into the marvelous light of Christ.” &mdash Robert L. Millet

“Latter-day scripture provides windows to a deeper understanding of the Lord's words that are recorded in Matthew chapter 5 through 7. The Book of Mormon contains a similar sermon given to the Nephites that clarifies and expands on the original. We also have other scriptures that give us additional insights.” &mdash Richard D. Draper

“The Psalms greatly influenced both the author of the sermon, Jesus Christ, and the sermon's chief New Testament chronicler, Matthew.” &mdash Andrew C. Skinner

This book is a valuable resource for those striving to better understand the Sermon on the Mount and implement its teachings in their lives. Those followers of Jesus Christ who gain a lifelong trust in Christ and sustain an effort to keep the commandments and walk in the light will come to know their Lord and gain the prize of everlasting life.

Contributors include:

Daniel L.
