“From small and simple to grand and glorious” sends an immediate message to many readers, but to those who do not instantly envision examples before them, Preparing the Way seeks to reveal elements of past, present, and future events, woven together to set the stage for the great and dreadful day of the Lord. This paradigm stage is set for all to discover.

One of the clearest principles of world history is that everything we see before us today had a small beginning somewhere, somehow, influenced by someone. Remarkably enough, these events have prepared the way for the restoration of the church that Jesus Himself organized in His day and age. Through miraculous occurrences, His church is again upon the earth to prepare the way for His second coming to preside over His kingdom for the one-thousand-year millennial rule and reignーJesus as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Thoroughly researched and supported, this study invites you to embrace the knowledge that the same church that Jesus organized in the ancient Holy Land has been restored to the earth.

Love's Old Sweet Song: A Sheaf of Latter-day Love-Poems Gathered from Many Sources【電子書籍】[ George Herman Ellwanger ]

As will be apparent at a glance, the selections are all from modern, and largely from living poets; the dominant chord is lyrical; and in the general unisance the minor prevails over the major key. No excuse seems called for in presenting a new anthology; for, given the same theme, each compiler must of necessity present a different score, subject to individual taste and preferences. “To apologize for a new anthology is but one degree less sensible than to prepare it,” pertinently remarks the editor of Ballades and Rondeaus. Such were but another case of qui s’excuse, s’accuse. It may be observed, nevertheless, that the path of the compiler is far from being strewn with flowers. Indeed, it has been truly said that ?sop’s old man and boy with the donkey had not a harder task than the maker of selections and collections of verses. Of recent years a number of excellent anthologies have been published on a similar theme. But these deal mainly with the rhythmic fancies of the elder bards, or in fewer instances, combine the older and the younger schools. In the present instance the editor has been guided solely by his own taste or predilections, having had no recourse to other collections, beyond that of avoiding excerpta too oft repeated; the aim being so far as possible to include such examples of merit as are not generally familiar to the average lover of poetry. Whether these be by well-known authors, or by those who are little known, has not entered into consideration, the prime object being to present as intrinsically meritorious a collection, by both British and American modern lyrists, as is possible within the limits of the space at command. The writer is not aware of a similar compilation having been previously attempted, there being few who would care to brave the “omissions” that must naturally be thrust at one’s door, more especially in the case of an abstract from the works of living writers. Yet while fault may be found, perchance, on the score of selection both by those who may be excluded, as well as by those who are included, the editor of an anthology should at least be thanked for placing many selections before the reader that in the ordinary course of things he would miss,ーeither through lack of time, or the inability to possess or consult the multitudinous volumes he would be called upon to peruse. “The purchasing public for poetry,” says Mr. Lang, “must now consist chiefly of poets, and they are usually poor.” The anthologist is the bee, therefore, to extract the honey from the fragrant garland of song, at the least fatigue to the reader. For every poet has not a hive of sweets to draw from; and though the blooms be many in the parterre of poesy, still these require to be plucked with reference not only to individual beauty, but to general harmony as well. A single line may sadly mar an otherwise flawless verse, as a single sonnet rendered immortal the name of F?lix Arvers. Many no doubt will miss some favourites. Of such it may be observed that not a few lovely apostrophes have been omitted on account of too great length, or, as previously stated, owing to their being familiar to the great majority of readers. Some poems, moreover, beautiful in themselves, have not been included, despite their intrinsic merits, because they seemed to be out of accord with the prevailing key, as in the case of numerous lyrics approaching the form of so-termed Vers de Soci?t?. Still others, and many of these extremely beautiful amatory poems, somewhat free in motif or treatment, have been excluded as not fulfilling the precise requirements of the present collection; these were more appropriate grouped in a volume by themselves.

All other hypothesis have long since been committed to limbo as too silly, too outrageous or too inconsistent even for a gullible anti-"Mormon" public. In this short treatise we have endeavored to prove the utter untenability of this theory. We have shown that the upholders of this myth are not only at variance with each other, but that all their assertions are inconsistent with the well-known facts associated with its discovery; and when we proceed further to examine the internal evidence of the book we very soon discover that the conglomeration of conjectures, guesses, suppositions, etc., of which this "Spaulding story" is formed is "as unstable as water" and utterly unworthy of belief.

At Latter-day Strengths we have taken the time and care into formatting this book to make it the best possible reading experience. In The Days of The Latter Rain【電子書籍】[ T. B.Barratt ]

Thomas Ball Barratt (22 July 1862, Cornwall, England ? 29 January 1940, Oslo, Norway) was a British-born Norwegian pastor and founder of the Pentecostal movement in Norway.

He experienced a remarkable baptism in the Holy Spirit in his hotel room on October 7th, 1906 when the Pentecostal Revival was in full swing hundreds of miles away in California. He was in New York waiting for a boat home, probably reduced to a sense of failure, when a supernatural light was seen like a cloven tongue of was seen over his head and he received the Spirit. He later wrote a vivid account, affirming "I began to shout as loud as I could in a foreign language. I must have spoken in seven or eight languages, to judge from the various sounds and forms of speech used. I stood erect at times, preaching in one foreign tongue after another, and knew from the strength of my voice that 10,000 might easily have heard all I said. The most wonderful moment was when I burst into a beautiful baritone solo, using one of the most pure and delightful languages that I have ever heard." (He had formerly studied under the famous Norwegian composer, Grieg.) He sailed for Norway on December 8th and thereafter a Pentecostal Movement began in Scandinavia that spread like fire.

His bold testimony was met with antagonism in the churches, but he fought back with powerful oratory and convincing articles. Immense crowds flocked to public meetings at his newly formed "Filadelfia" assembly in Oslo and the Revival spread all over Northern Europe as far as Finland..

Alexander A. Boddy, vicar of All Saints', Sunderland, heard of what was happening in Norway, and travelled there to investigate. He was immediately convinced that it was from God and persuaded the already overworked Barratt to visit his church in northern England. He came for two exciting weeks at the beginning of September, 1907. Thirsty souls were soon filled with the Holy Spirit and the Pentecostal Revival had begun in England. The gift of tongues attracted the attention of the secular press and no further advertisement was needed! When Pastor Barratt returned to Oslo the British leadership was left in the hands of A.A. Boddy and Cecil Polhill.

He travelled abroad carrying his Pentecostal flame to believers in India, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Iceland and Denmark.

This book is a brilliant presentation of the Bible basis of the doctrine of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and includes the core of his message which lit a Pentecostal flame, notably in Norway and Britain, but also in other parts of the world.

Chapters:
Chapter 1. A Call To Pentecost
Chapter 2. A Friendly Talk with Minister and Christian Workers
Chapter 3. Tongues of Fire
Chapter 4. More About the Pentecostal Outpouring
Chapter 5. Prophetically, it delves into what God has been saying for a long time, which is that the Lord will sweep the earth with a revival in the end times which will ignite many followers with His holy fire. What will this revival look like? This is the big question, and one would rather say it will not be a singular event, but a sequence of Godly movements across the globe that will be infectious, contagious and real. In an awakening, the Holy Spirit gives unbelieving people - who are dead in their trespasses and sins - a new awareness of their needs. A revival is connected to the people of God and it is when those who are in churches - those who are professing believers - are ministered to by the Holy Spirit in such a way that they are renewed in their devotion to the Lord. The time is ripe for the one final great harvest, yet this calls for the revived church, full of the fire of the Holy Spirit, to go into the fields, to awaken the lost and the forgotten and broken, and to bring them into the loving embrace of a God who is full of compassion, grace and mercy. This is the time of spiritual latter rains, and now is the time to welcome the embrace of a God who is real, alive, and who calls us all into His arms to reflect His beauty and greatness. It is not God's Will that any soul He created should perish, but that all men should come to the knowledge of God and be saved. God calls on all believers to cast their net in the deep for the harvest of souls.

The Book of Mormon【電子書籍】[ Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ]

The Book of Mormon is divided into several books, which tell the story of ancient American civilizations. According to Smith, the text was translated from golden plates he discovered in 1823, which he claimed were inscribed with a history of the inhabitants of the Americas from around 600 B.C. to A.D. 421. The narrative includes accounts of two primary groups: the Nephites and the Lamanites, who are said to be descendants of a Hebrew family that fled Jerusalem before its destruction. The book recounts their journeys, wars, religious teachings, and the eventual appearance of Jesus Christ in the Americas after His resurrection. The book is structured like a historical record and is written in a style similar to the King James Bible. It emphasizes themes such as faith, repentance, and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Notably, it includes the story of Christ's visit to the Americas, where He is said to have preached, established His church, and performed miracles.

A Rational Theology: As Taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints【電子書籍】[ John A. Widtsoe ]

A rational theology, as understood in this volume, is a theology which (1) is based on fundamental principles that harmonize with the knowledge and reason of man, (2) derives all of its laws, ordinances and authority from the accepted fundamental principles, and (3) finds expression and use in the everyday life of man. In short, a rational theology is derived from the invariable laws of the universe, and exists for the good of man. This volume is an exposition; it is not an argument. The principles of the Gospel, as held by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are stated, briefly, simply and without comment, to show the coherence, reasonableness and universality of the gospel philosophy. The authority for many of the statements found in the volume is given in the references included in the appendix. The doctrines herein stated are, however, the common knowledge of the members of the Church. No attempt has been made to correlate the doctrines discussed with current philosophical opinions. Those who are led to study this rational theology in the light of the best knowledge and soundest thought, will enter a fertile field, and will find a surprising harmony between the Gospel and all discovered truth. could not be made larger, were it to serve well the special purpose for which it was written. Therefore, the treatment is brief and many important and interesting subjects are omitted. Moreover, had to be completed within a short, set time, and many of the imperfections of the work are the results of the hurried preparation. Every writer who in this day attempts an exposition of the Gospel must draw heavily upon the clear thoughts of those who, from Joseph Smith to the living workers, have written and spoken in behalf of the truth. I acknowledge, gratefully, my obligation to the makers of "Mormon" literature. Many friends have, also, in various ways, given kindly aid; to them I offer hearty and sincere thanks

The 1929 Kelsey Quilters The Brave Sisters Who Found a Safe Place to Worship and Raise Families in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints【電子書籍】[ Beverly Burnett Hamberlin ]

It is a true story of how a 1929 quilt was found in the closet of Mary Cannon Hamberlin folded over a strong hanger along with twenty-two extra blocks covered in plastic and sent to the only relative that her daughters thought might know who the women were that had made it. The woman they sent it to was a convert to the Church. She had done the Family History of both her husband and herself. She had been to Kelsey and met some of the women. Her love of Family and Temple work led her to discover the histories of forty-six women who not only had made quilts together but had been related to each other and to her and her husband's family. The women were all converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from the southern states in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They had all come together in a place called Kelsey, which became the mother colony of the Church in Texas. Wilford Woodruff encouraged the saints to stay in Texas and not make the move to Salt Lake. They sent Missionaries to Kelsey to oversee the education of these new saints. The personal histories of these women help her to overcome the loss of her husband and strengthen her testimony of Jesus Christ so much that she knows that she has to share it with their families. As she researches, she meets others who love these women too. Their Stories also help her to remember and record her own memories and maybe it will help others do the same.
