Die vor ungef?hr f?nfzehn Jahren erstmals so genannten 'Lipid rafts' (kurz: Rafts) sind ein solcher neuer Ansatz. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Form von Mikrodom?nen, die durch eine bestimmte Zusammensetzung von Lipiden gekennzeichnet ist und deren Funktionen sich als ?usserst vielf?ltig erwiesen haben. 'Lipid rafts' sind beteiligt an der Endozytose, der Signaltransduktion, der Membranbiosynthese und der Pathogenese zahlreicher Krankheiten. Insbesondere aufgrund dieses letzten Punktes, haben sie auch in der medizinischen Forschung Aufsehen erregt. Ich werde diese Arbeit mit geschichtlichen Hintergr?nden, Definitionen und Abgrenzungen zu anderen ?hnlichen Begriffen, und dem Aufbau von 'Lipid rafts' beginnen. Es folgt eine Erl?uterung von zwei ihrer Funktionen, n?mlich der Endozytose und des Membranstoffwechsels..
