The Orphean【電子書籍】[ David Antonelli ]

A YouTube men's fragrance and fashion influencer wanders across an unfamiliar city to meet his estranged daughter on the 'day of his eternal damnation'.

On his way, he encounters a host of unsettling experiences and strange characters including 'the cloud lady' an elderly woman with dementia, 'the blocker in-chief' a man whose sole purpose seems to be impeding crowds, 'the conductor' a suburban family man with a mysterious double life, and an old friend??who no longer recognizes him??leading a far-right march, all of who become an ominous mirror to his life.

Unusual events continue to unfold around him, including a girl who injures herself in a TikTok stunt, and a debate on AI ending in a fist fight, while his noble attempts to save a fox from a sadistic pervert to impress his daughter backfire. Shortly before his planned rendezvous, he meets a former police inspector who claims to have followed him all day and can see his guilt 'like a dark halo around him'. These characters and events ultimately become a reflection of his guilt, establishing the framework for a macabre tribunal aimed at revealing his potential role (or not) in damaging the important relationships in his life.

The Orphean is a completed 60,000-word work of literary fiction. Like Kafka's The Trial (with which occasional parallels are drawn) or Hollywood classic Heaven Can Wait, The Orphean blends fantasy and absurdism with vivid realism in a reflection on 'innate familial guilt' in an increasingly irrational world, while also reflecting the mythical journey of Orpheus into Hades.

In the Land of Myth Orphean Sonnets【電子書籍】[ Bernard Kuckuck ]

This is a new collection of poems by the author of In the Twilight and his novel Purgatorio.

These verses hark back to the golden dawn of a flowering Greece, to celebrate a unity of nature, to give rein to our spiritual yearnings and sense of discovery, letting the divine minstrel, Orpheus, enchant us with the euphoric strains of his hymns, allow us to imagine the hypnotic effect of the sounding of his harp and make us long ever more ardently for this wondrous land of sagacity and myth.

Quotes from the Online Book Club (www.OnlineBookClub.org) that reviewed my previous book of poems entitled In the Twilight:

"The central themes of this collection are reflection and love into a bygone era, filled with drama, celebration, and a hint of tragedy."

"I treasure poetry chiefly as it teaches us to express emotion, deep feelings, and appreciate the beauty around us. The poems in the book do not disappoint . . ."

"The author of In The Land of Myth employs engrossing poetry to transport the reader to the classical age. From observing the waves of the Aegean Seashore to listening to the murmurs of the trees, every scene is painted perfectly to invite a corresponding mood. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars." - Kibetious, reviewer from OnlineBookClub

Bernard Kuckuck is a Canadian author who lives in the French-speaking province of Quebec. He also writes poetry in several other languages and is especially motivated to explore those eras that had a deeply rooted effect on the flowering of our civilization.

On the Morphean Chair【電子書籍】[ Alan Tenenbaum W. ]

According to Greek mythology, Morpheus is the god of dreams, foremost of the Oneiroi, who was begotten by Hypnos (sleep) and Nix (night). Morpheus is the brother of Thanatos (death), and of the dark winged Phobetor, the personification of nightmares.

Thanatos prepares the way for the entrance of his brother Morpheus with the death of a way of life, the life of an ordinary man who enjoys “walrusing.”

This isn’t a fantastic tale, nor is it science fiction or mythology. It’s not the story of an accident, nor is it a motivational book. It’s the true story of a man who in one very real moment is ripped out of a very pleasurable chair and dropped into Morpheus’s chair. It’s a chair where the “real me” struggles, branches off, and is converted into “another me” which makes room for Morpheus to come in, with his wings, to transport him to a better reality.

But when the quadriplegic awakens, Phobetor is the one who is present in his nightmares. This agonizing account of quadriplegia is narrated with simple vocabulary at once youthful and playful inviting us to keep reading; at other times narrated like a professional led by the medical terms that situate us in the conflict.

The work is a successful interplay between the imagination, dreams and reality where the creation of words, sensuality, eroticism, and of course the dream world are always present.

The chapter titles compel the reader to return to them upon reaching the end and merge them into the action forcing the reader to reflect by which feelings of solidarity with the protagonist emerge. These feelings of solidarity are gradually transformed into feelings of admiration as we see him rise up from Morpheus’ Chair to narrate this journey from man to superman that he shares with us in this life lesson.
