This carefully crafted ebook: "The Mark Twain Autobiography + 3 Biographies" contains 4 Mark Twain Biographies in 1 book and is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Mark Twain began writing his autobiography long before the 1906 publications of these Chapters from my Autobiography. He originally planned to have his memoirs published only after his death but realized, once he'd passed his 70th year, that a lot of the material might be OK to publish before his departure. These chapters were published in serial form in the North American Review during 1906-1907. While much of the material consists of stories about the people, places and incidents of his long life, there're also several sections from his daughter. In My Mark Twain, Howells pens a literary memoir that includes such fascinating scenes as their meetings with former president Ulysses Grant who was then writing the classic autobiography that Twain would underwrite in the largest publishing deal until that time. But it is also notable for its affectionate descriptions of his friend's family life during Howell's many visits to the Twain residences in Hartford and Stormfield. Mark Twain A Biography and The Boys' Life Of Mark Twain written by Albert Bigelow Paine, are an invaluable resource to better understand Twain, the stories behind his stories and his life with those he loved and with whom he worked.
This carefully crafted ebook: "THE AMERICAN CRISIS ? Revolutionary Work Which Inspired the American People to Fight for Their Independence" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The American Crisis is a pamphlet series by the Enlightenment philosopher Thomas Paine, written during the American Revolution. Paine wrote these pamphlets in order to motivate people in the Colonies to join the war for independence from Britain. The pamphlets were contemporaneous with early parts of the American Revolution, during a time when colonists needed inspiring works. Paine, like many other politicians and scholars, knew that the Colonists weren't going to support the American Revolutionary War without proper reason to do so. They were written in a language that the common man could understand, and represented Paine's liberal philosophy. Paine also used references to God, saying that a war against Kingdom of Great Britain would be a war with the support of God. Paine's writings bolstered the morale of the American colonists, appealed to the English people's consideration of the war with America, clarified the issues at stake in the war, and denounced the advocates of a negotiated peace. Often known as simply The Crisis, there are sixteen pamphlets in total which Paine signed with the pseudonym, "Common Sense." Thomas Paine (1737-1809) was an English-American political activist, philosopher, political theorist, and revolutionary. One of the Founding Fathers of the United States, he authored the two most influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, and he inspired the rebels in 1776 to declare independence from Britain. Paine's ideas reflected Enlightenment-era rhetoric of transnational human rights.

Thomas Paine (February 9, 1737 June 8, 1809) was an author, intellectual, revolutionary, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Common Sense was first published anonymously on January 10, 1776, during the America Revolution. Common Sense, signed "Written by an Englishman", became an immediate success. In relation to the population of the Colonies at that time, it had the largest sale and circulation of any book in American history. Common Sense presented the American colonists with an argument for freedom from British rule at a time when the question of independence was still undecided. Paine wrote and reasoned in a style that common people understood; forgoing the philosophy and Latin references used by Enlightenment era writers, Paine structured Common Sense like a sermon and relied on Biblical references to make his case to the people. This edition of Common Sense includes a Table of Contents, images of Paine and more.

THE RIGHTS OF MAN: The French Revolution ? Ideals, Arguments & Motives (Political Classic) Being an Answer to Mr. Burke's Attack on the French Revolution【電子書籍】[ Thomas Paine ]

This carefully crafted ebook: "THE RIGHTS OF MAN: The French Revolution ? Ideals, Arguments & Motives (Political Classic)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Thomas Paine's "Rights of Man" is born from his need to defend social mutiny and it posits that popular political revolution is permissible when a government does not safeguard the natural rights of its people. Using these points as a base Paine defends the French Revolution against Edmund Burke's attack in Reflections on the Revolution in France. Paine argues that the interests of the monarch and his people are united, and insists that the French Revolution should be understood as one which attacks the despotic principles of the French monarchy, not the king himself. Principally, Rights of Man opposes the idea of hereditary government ? the belief that dictatorial government is necessary, because of man's corrupt, essential nature. Rights of Man concludes in proposing practical reformations of English government: a written Constitution composed by a national assembly, in the American mould; the elimination of aristocratic titles, because democracy is incompatible with primogeniture. Thomas Paine's intellectual influence is perceptible in the two great political revolutions of the eighteenth century. He dedicated Rights of Man to George Washington and to the Marquis de Lafayette, acknowledging the importance of the American and the French revolutions in his formulating the principles of modern democratic governance. Thomas Paine (1737-1809) was an English-American political activist, philosopher, political theorist, and revolutionary. One of the Founding Fathers of the United States, he authored the two most influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, and he inspired the rebels in 1776 to declare independence from Britain.
This carefully crafted ebook: "THE AGE OF REASON - Investigation of True and Fabulous Theology (Including "The Life of Thomas Paine")" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The Age of Reason is an influential work by Thomas Paine that follows in the tradition of eighteenth-century British deism, and challenges institutionalized religion and the legitimacy of the Bible. It presents common deistic arguments; for example, it highlights what Paine saw as corruption of the Christian Church and criticizes its efforts to acquire political power. Paine advocates reason in the place of revelation, leading him to reject miracles and to view the Bible as "an ordinary piece of literature rather than as a divinely inspired text". It promotes natural religion and argues for the existence of a creator-God. The Age of Reason is divided into three sections. In Part I, Paine outlines his major arguments and personal creed. In Parts II and III he analyzes specific portions of the Bible in order to demonstrate that it is not the revealed word of God. Most of Paine's arguments had long been available to the educated elite, but by presenting them in an engaging and irreverent style, he made deism appealing and accessible to a mass audience.
This eBook edition of "Common Sense & The Rights of Man" has been formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Paine's visionary call for republicanism and social welfare was generations ahead of its time when "Rights of Man" was published. According to Paine - Government's sole purpose is safeguarding the individual and his/her inherent, inalienable rights; each societal institution that does not benefit the nation is illegitimateーespecially monarchy and aristocracy. Human rights originate in Nature, thus, rights cannot be granted via political charter, because that implies that rights are legally revocable, hence, would be privileges. Common Sense was published anonymously on January 10, 1776, at the beginning of the American Revolution, and became an immediate sensation. Written in clear and persuasive prose, Thomas Paine marshaled moral and political arguments to encourage common people in the Colonies to fight for egalitarian government. It. Common Sense made public a persuasive and impassioned case for independence, which before the pamphlet had not yet been given serious intellectual consideration. He connected independence with common dissenting Protestant beliefs as a means to present a distinctly American political identity, structuring Common Sense as if it were a sermon. Historian Gordon S. Wood described Common Sense as "the most incendiary and popular pamphlet of the entire revolutionary era". Among his novels are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri, which later provided the setting for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. After an apprenticeship with a printer, Twain worked as a typesetter and contributed articles to the newspaper of his older brother, Orion Clemens. He later became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River before heading west to join Orion in Nevada. He referred humorously to his lack of success at mining, turning to journalism for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. In 1865, his humorous story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", was published, based on a story he heard at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California, where he had spent some time as a miner. The short story brought international attention, and was even translated into classic Greek. His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty.

As a key figure in both the American and French Revolutions, Paine's ideas continue to resonate with readers seeking to understand the foundations of modern democracy. His ability to communicate complex political concepts in clear and compelling language remains unmatched among his contemporaries. I highly recommend The Greatest Works of Thomas Paine to anyone interested in the origins of democratic thought and the principles of social justice. Paine's enduring legacy as a champion of equality and freedom makes this collection a timeless and invaluable resource for students, scholars, and anyone passionate about political philosophy.

“It is hard to imagine this magnificent biography ever being superseded . . . It is a stylish, splendidly erudite work.” ーTerry Eagleton, The Guardian

“More than any other public figure of the eighteenth century, Tom Paine strikes our times like a trumpet blast from a distant world.” So begins John Keane’s magnificent and award-winning (the Fraunces Tavern Book Award) biography of one of democracy’s greatest champions.

Among friends and enemies alike, Paine earned a reputation as a notorious pamphleteer, one of the greatest political figures of his day, and the author of three bestselling books, Common Sense, Rights of Man, and The Age of Reason. Setting his compelling narrative against a vivid social backdrop of prerevolutionary America and the French Revolution, John Keane melds together the public and the shadowy private sides of Paine’s life in a remarkable piece of scholarship. This is the definitive biography of a man whose life and work profoundly shaped the modern age.

“[A] richly detailed . . . disciplined labor of scholarship and love, an exemplar of the rewards of a gargantuan effort at historical research. . . . In short, buy it; it’s definitive.” ーLibrary Journal

The Greater America【電子書籍】[ Ralph D. Paine ]

An epic journey through a vibrant new country! In 1905, the veteran war correspondent Ralph D. Paine set out to explore the American West, sending back his dispatches to Outing magazine. He saw towns appearing like magic on the North Dakota prairie, loggers tearing the heart out of the Cascade forests, and cowboys making their last roundup in Montana. He explored the Pacific Coast from Seattle to the "pleasure and health resort" of Los Angeles, where an electric trolly whisked him from the city to the Santa Anita Ranch in a few minutes.

From there he went by train, desert automobile, and stage coach to the gold fields of Nevada. Wherever he went, there was bustle, progress, and unquenchable optimism, as the frontier closed and America began to grow into the world's superpower. Brought to new life by the historian and novelist Daniel Ford.
