The Passenger Has Gone Digital and Mobile Accessing and Connecting Through Information and Technology【電子書籍】[ Nawal K. Taneja ]

Technology is changing expectations in the airline industry. Passengers want to be in control, and they expect airlines to become solution providers and aggregators of value, to provide them with personalized services. Airline employees expect to be given the tools to do their jobs and to meet passenger expectations. Airline executives expect to make returns that are reasonable and relatively stable through business cycles. All of these expectations can be met by airlines through the effective and efficient leveraging of information and technology, to shift from being operations- and product-centric to becoming customer-centric and dramatically improving the overall passenger travel experience throughout the travel cycle. In this new book by world-renowned airline expert Nawal K. Taneja, the 7th in a series with Ashgate, the author explores and explains the game-changing opportunities presented to the industry by new-generation information and technology. He shows how information and technology can now drive, not just enable, an airline's strategy to become truly customer-centric at a personalized level, while at the same time enabling the operator to reduce costs, enhance revenues, reduce risks and become much more flexible and agile by better managing complexity.

It delves into the psychological and physical toll that extreme conditions can have on individuals. As the diary unfolds, readers witness the deteriorating state of the passengers and crew as they confront one crisis after another."The Survivors of the Chancellor" is notable for its intense and often grim portrayal of a sea voyage gone awry. The Passenger - Londra【電子書籍】[ Aa. Vv. ]

Londra citt? aperta.

The Last Passenger【電子書籍】[ Static & Flow ]

The Last Passenger is an explosive and engrossing novel that belongs to the psychological thriller sub-genre where suspense, mystery, and supernaturalism complement each other in perfect harmony. Taking place in the background of an almost interminable train trip, the story is about Claire, a woman suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder due to a train crash she witnessed years before. Late one day she takes a train and it is very strange when she sees herself being the only passenger in the train, and the train starts moving on the track She is taken through an Ordeal which brings her face to face with her greatest fear and secret guilt. The train becomes a version of purgatory where Claire has to find out what happened in order to get out of the mystery and deal with the apparitions of the supernatural world. The Last Passenger is filled with tension, in scene and color; in daring, graphic description, and a suffocating sense of impending doom; it is a novel of survival, guilt, and the relentless karma that is the past. The kind of narrative that will give readers heart palpitations, their heads spinning about what is actual and what is strictly unreal by the story's end.

The Passenger: Ireland【電子書籍】[ The Passenger ]

The best new writing, photography, art, and reportage from and about Irelandーin the series that's "like a literary vacation" ( Publishers Weekly).
Ireland is a land full of charm and conflict, a country that in just a few decades has gone from being a poor, semi-theocratic society to a thriving economy free from the influence of the Catholic Church. With the 1998 peace agreements, the conflict between nationalists and unionists seemed, if not resolved, at least dormant. But Brexitーwith the ambiguous position it leaves Northern Ireland inーcaused old tensions to resurface, with ramifications in politics, society, culture, and sport.
Meanwhile, south of the border, epochal transformation has seen a deeply patriarchal, conservative society give space to diversity, the only country in the world to enshrine gay marriage in law through a referendum. And there's a whole other Ireland abroad, an Irish diaspora that looks to the old country with newfound pride but doesn't forget the ugliness it fled from.
Memory and identity intertwine with the transformationsーfrom globalization to climate changeーthat are remodeling the Irish landscape, from the coastal communities under threat of disappearing along with the Irish language fishermen use to talk about the sea, inland the peat bogs, until recently important sources of energy and jobs, are being abandoned. Pieces in this collection include:
The mass is ended by Catherine Dunne and Caelainn Hogan ・ The Way Back by Colum McCann ・ A Trip to Westeros by Mark O'Connell ・ Plus: life on the margins of two unions and right in the middle of Brexit, making war on each other for thirty years while playing on the same national rugby team, emigrating to the great enemy or transforming the country one referendum at a time, digging peat bogs and building cottages, talking of the sea in Gaelic, and much more . . .
"These books are so rich and engrossing that it is rewarding to read them even when one is stuck at home." ー The Times Literary Supplement

The Passenger ?

The Passenger: South Korea【電子書籍】[ AA.VV. ]

Fully-illustrated, The Passenger collects the best new writing, photography, art and reportage from around the world.

IN THIS VOLUME: Hell Joseon by Elisa Shua Dusapin ? The View from the North by Lee Hyeonseo ? Lessons in Democracy by Jiyoung Choi ? plus: the Samsung Republic and the most militarized border in the world, the real reason why Korean women don’t have children, democracy and K-pop, baseball, esports, and shamanism, and much more…

From kimchi to TV series, from Oscar-winning films to K-pop, from webtoons to cosmetics, in recent years Korea has captured the global imagination, one viral trend at a time. In this volume, The Passenger sets out in search of the world’s coolest nation.

Eighty years ago, at the end of a devastating civil war, South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world, under constant threat from the Communist regime north of the 38th parallel and completely dependent on the United States for its security and prosperity. Today, it is the world’s tenth-largest economy, a dynamic and innovative country with a per capita GDP similar to that of Western Europe, a lively and participatory democracy that stands up to its larger, more powerful neighbors. And above all, the country is the origin of the hallyuーthe Korean waveーwhich has reached every corner of the world and taken the global entertainment, food, and culture industries by storm.

This extremely rapid and astonishing transformation has inevitably brought ruptures and contradictions. If the global youth looks to Korea as previous generations looked to Hollywood and New York, young Koreans instead talk about Hell Joseon: a country that is rapidly aging, an economic system dominated by powerful chaebols (family-controlled conglomerates), a fiercely competitive educational system, a generational gap in outlook and behavior and, at the center of it all, the role of womenー one of the keys that The Passenger has chosen to try to decipher a complex, fascinating country, central to the dynamics of today’s world, and that is often exoticized and idealized to the same extent.

A history of New York subway passengers as they navigated the system's constraints while striving for individuality, or at least a smooth ride.

When the subway first opened with much fanfare on October 27, 1904, New York became a city of underground passengers almost overnight. In this book, Stefan H?hne examines how the experiences of subway passengers in New York City were intertwined with cultural changes in urban mass society throughout the twentieth century. H?hne argues that underground transportation--which early passengers found both exhilarating and distressing--changed perceptions, interactions, and the organization of everyday life.

The Passenger - Puglia【電子書籍】[ Aa. Vv. ]

Romance of the Rails Why the Passenger Trains We Love Are Not the Transportation We Need【電子書籍】[ Randal O'Toole ]

American transportation has undergone many technological revolutions: from sailing ships to steamships; canals to railroads; steam to diesel; horsecars to electric streetcars; passenger trains and urban rail transit to airplanes and automobiles. Normally, the federal government has allowed and encouraged these revolutions, but today it continues to spend billions of dollars trying to preserve and build obsolete rail transit, passenger train lines, and high-speed trains. Does this make any sense? To explain how we have arrived at this juncture, O’Toole first provides a rich, extensively detailed history of rail in America. Then he delivers us to the present through a stage-by-stage review of rail transportation over the decades. As he moves forward, O’Toole shows how federally subsidized efforts to return to rail’s Golden Age, through massive infusions of funds to Amtrak and local transit agencies, are doing more harm than good to personal mobility. They are ineffective and inefficient ways of meeting, let alone improving, today’s transportation needs.

Instead, as O’Toole demonstrates, the transportation of the future will rely on America’s four million miles of roads and on air travelーboth with far smaller infrastructure issues than rail. Further, O’Toole examines the costly allure of high-speed trains and light rail, illustrating their false promise and showing why passenger rail seems to work in Europe and Asia but does not and cannot in North America. As Romance of the Rails thoroughly chronicles, Americans love passenger trains, but we need an interventionーwe have to stop expecting them to do for us now what they did in the 19th century. If we stay on the track we are now following, we will continue to be taken for a costly and wasteful ride.

A Message from Martha The Extinction of the Passenger Pigeon and Its Relevance Today【電子書籍】[ Mark Avery ]

The story of Passenger Pigeon, and what we can learn from its demise 100 years ago.

September 1st, 2014 marked the centenary of one of the best-documented extinctions in history ? the demise of the Passenger Pigeon. From being the commonest bird on the planet 50 years earlier, the species became extinct on that fateful day, with the death in Cincinnati Zoo of Martha ? the last of her kind.

This book tells the tale of the Passenger Pigeon, and of Martha, and of author Mark Avery's journey in search of them. It looks at how the species was a cornerstone of the now much-diminished ecology of the eastern United States, and how the species went from a population that numbered in the billions to nil in a terrifyingly brief period of time. It also explores the largely untold story of the ecological annihilation of this part of America in the latter half of the 19th century, a time that saw an unprecedented loss of natural beauty and richness as forests were felled and the prairies were ploughed, with wildlife slaughtered more or less indiscriminately.

Despite the underlying theme of loss, this book is more than another depressing tale of human greed and ecological stupidity. It contains an underlying message ? that we need to re-forge our relationship with the natural world on which we depend, and plan a more sustainable future. Otherwise more species will go the way of the Passenger Pigeon. We should listen to the message from Martha.

A concerned citizen had found the Jacket, and called the police. They sent the jacket to their lab, and after some time they found out that the jacket belonged to Mrs. Hodge. However, some extra finger prints belonged to a Errol Lance. He was picked up, and after a full days questioning, the police believed him and contacted the cab company. The driver Stan Jones had had some trouble with the law before, so he was picked up. It took another day of constant questioning before he said that they had taken Mrs. Hodge to get some money from her wealthy husband. As the police drove down to Pedro's place, he pulled out a gun, and was killed by the police, and Mrs. Hodge was allowed to be taken home. Pedro's brother Jose asked some of his friends to vengeance his brother. Two agreed, so together with Bill and Ralph they decided to hit the police hard. However, Bill had a better idea, and shot both Jose and Ralph. Then he went to get some money from the rich Hodge's.
He was of course taken, and finished up ni jail.

The Passenger ?

Drawing on the extensive photographs, notes, diaries, reports, recorded data, and manuals he collected during his five years at the Zeppelin Company in Germany, from 1934 through 1938, Harold G. Dick tells the story of the two great passenger Zeppelins. Against the background of German secretiveness, especially during the Nazi period, Dick's accumulation of material and pictures is extraordinary. His original photographs and detailed observations on the handling and flying of the two big rigids constitute the essential data on this phase of aviation history.

Coastal Passenger Liners of the British Isles【電子書籍】[ Nick Robins ]

At the beginning of the last century it was possible to sail from London to Glasgow via the south coast ports and Belfast, returning along the east coast from either Dundee or Leith for as little as five pounds. Those were the days when 300 passengers were landed twice weekly at Grangemouth or Dundee from the London boat, and the coastal passenger and cargo liner was in its heyday, catering both for the first class tourist as well as offering keenly priced second class fares for the like of football fans following away matches. Sadly, these wonderful steamer services are now largely forgotten but this new book will stir fond memories of the ships and their coastal voyages. The Depression of the 1930s, coupled with competition from both railway and the motor coach, were to spell the end for many of the coastal liners, while heavy losses incurred in World War II left only a few ships each offering just a handful of passenger berths. The story of their one hundred years of service is accompanied by numerous fascinating anecdotes, and the book focuses as much on the social need for coastal passenger services, the men and women who provided the services and the passengers who used them, as it does on the nuts and bolts of the ships themselves. This beautifully presented book will delight both ship enthusiasts and all those who enjoy the maritime and social history of the British Isles.

The passenger - Mediterraneo【電子書籍】[ AA.VV. ]

The Passenger Plane Shot Down by the Russians【電子書籍】[ Laszlo Solymar ]

The novel is set in the Soviet Union. It describes a well known episode in the Cold War when Soviet fighters shot down a Korean passenger plane on the 1st September 1983. The story is based on the official Soviet statements, issued on the 2nd, 3rd and 6th September. Only the third one admitted that their fighters had brought down the plane. Behind this succession of contradictory versions lies a debate. What went on behind the scenes? The main character is Nikolai Taranenko in charge of the Electronics Laboratory of the Soviet Armed Forces. He is brilliant in his job, greatly respected by the authorities. After destroying the plane the Soviet leadership realised that it was a blunder. The KGB arrested Taranenko blaming him for the lack of a device that could have recognised the plane as being a passenger plane. But then Taranenko turns the tables
