For two years, the god patiently gathered much of his followers only to mercilessly eliminate them last year for a gruesome display of power. At Camp, demigods face a dilemma: quarantine due to the mortal threat of SARS-CoV-2 or actively engage in a defensive battle against the god. The medical division is on high alert, while the infantry hunts the lord, their numbers drastically reduced compared to December 1944. To stay means witnessing the lord's ruthless rule; to fight risks leaving the ones who could've fought another war at a dreary cost.

The Dark Lady's Mask A Novel of Shakespeare's Muse【電子書籍】[ Mary Sharratt ]

From the author of Ecstasy,a novel of Renaissance England’s first female poet, and her collaborationーand love affairーwith William Shakespeare.

Aemilia Bassano Lanier is beautiful and accomplished, but her societal conformity ends there. She frequently cross-dresses to escape her loveless marriage and to gain freedoms only men enjoyーand then a chance encounter with a ragged, little-known poet named Shakespeare changes everything.

The two outsiders strike up a literary bargain: they leave plague-ridden London for Italy, where they begin secretly writing comedies together and where Will falls in love with the beautiful countryーand with Aemilia, his Dark Lady. Their Italian idyll, though, cannot last. Will gains fame and fortune for their plays back in London and years later publishes the sonnets mocking his former muse. Not one to stand by in humiliation, Aemilia takes up her own pen in her defense, and in defense of all women.

Named One of the Best Books of the Year by the St. Paul Pioneer Press

“An absorbing bildungsroman that grapples with strikingly contemporary issues of gender and religious identification”ーNew York Times Book Review

“An exquisite portrait of a Renaissance woman pursuing her artistic destiny in England and Italy, who mayーor may notーbe Shakespeare’s Dark Lady.”ーMargaret George, best-selling author of The Splendor Before the Dark

“The idea of a smart, beautiful, artistic woman telling Shakespeare, ‘We shall write comedies, you and I’ is as heady as the elderflower wine Aemilia’s household staff brews.”ーWashington Post

“Atmospheric, well-researched, carefully plotted…and, like Shakespeare’s plays, chock-full of equal parts mirth and pith to please all.”ーMinneapolis Star Tribune

The Institutional Structure of Macroprudential Policy in the UK【電子書籍】[ Kosmas Kaprinis ]

Macroprudential policy (MPP) has been one of the major initiatives in the post-2008 crisis restructuring of financial regulation. Under the macroprudential mandate, the regulator monitors and judiciously controls systemic risk in the financial system, in an attempt to minimise the probability and severity of a future financial crisis. The book reveals why MPP authorities are rightfully at the centre of a highly sensitive policy debate, as MPP necessitates the allocation of significant regulatory power to technocrats, while the highly technical nature of MPP makes policy evaluation challenging. Specific issues examined include: the importance of financial stability as a public policy goal; the political economy issues stemming from the delegation of MPP to an independent authority; and the definition of accountability in the context of MPP. Focusing on a case study on the Financial Policy Committee of the Bank of England, the macroprudential authority in the UK, the book develops the normative grounds to justify the need for accountability in the conduct of MPP, while also formulating the necessary institutional framework to ensure the accountability of MPP authorities.

Life on the Ground Floor Letters from the Edge of Emergency Medicine【電子書籍】[ Dr. James Maskalyk ]

***Canada Reads 2019 Longlist
*Winner of the 2017 Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction

Do no harm is our most important rule, but we break it all the time trying to do good.**

In this deeply personal book, winner of the 2017 Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction, humanitarian doctor and activist James Maskalyk reflects upon his extensive experience in emergency medicine. Splitting his time between a trauma centre in Toronto's inner city and the largest teaching hospital in Addis Ababa, he discovers that though the cultures, resources and medical challenges of the hospitals may differ, they are linked indelibly by the ground floor: the location of their emergency rooms. Here, on the ground floor, is where Maskalyk confronts his fears and doubts about medicine, and witnesses our mourning and laughter, tragedies and hopes, the frailty of being and the resilience of the human spirit.
Yet, he is swept most intimately into this story of "human aliveness" not as a physician, but as a grandson carrying for his grandfather, now in his nineties.
Masterfully written and artfully structured, Life on the Ground Floor is more than just an emergency doctor's memoirーit's a meditation on health and sickness, on when to hang on tight, and when to let go.

Six Months in Sudan A Young Doctor in a War-Torn Village【電子書籍】[ Dr. James Maskalyk ]

An inspiring story of one doctor’s struggle in a war-torn village in the heart of Sudan

In 2007, James Maskalyk, newly recruited by Doctors Without Borders, set out for the contested border town of Abyei, Sudan. An emergency physician drawn to the ravaged parts of the world, Maskalyk spent six months treating malnourished children, coping with a measles epidemic, watching for war, and struggling to meet overwhelming needs with few resources.

Six Months in Sudan began as a blog that Maskalyk wrote from his hut in Sudan in an attempt to bring his family and friends closer to his experiences on the medical front line of one of the poorest and most fragile places on earth. It is the story of the doctors, nurses, and countless volunteers who leave their homes behind to ease the suffering of others, and it is the story of the people of Abyei, who endure its hardship because it is the only home they have.

A memoir of volunteerism that recalls Three Cups of Tea, Six Months in Sudan is written with humanity, conviction, great hope, and piercing insight. It introduces us to a world beyond our own imagining and demonstrates how we all can make a difference.

“People are hungry to be brought closer to the world, even its hard parts.
