During this tumultuous period in health care, it can be helpful for both students and practicing nurses to not only look forward to change but to look back at customs that have served nurses well over the years. This text examines a variety of nursing rituals in the context of caring science and evidence-based practice and demonstrates how understanding and incorporation of such rituals can have a transformative effect on contemporary nursing practice. It is written for undergraduate and graduate students, and serves to integrate the liberal arts into nursing education as per AACN's New Essentials of Baccalaureate Education.

The text explores the history of nursing rituals and the symbols, meanings, and overall usefulness nursing rituals can convey to the profession today. These rituals--marking the sacred and profane of nursing--serve functions both practical and social and offer a window into the art of nursing that runs beneath the surface. Not only does the book examine rituals that take place in nurse-to-patient direct care situations, in nurse-to-nurse relationships, and those that mark the transitions into the professional nursing role, it also incorporates evidence-based research and an emphasis on caring theory. The book demonstrates how understanding and effective incorporation of these rituals in one's learning and practice can enhance nursing care. Rituals addressed include those used for bathing patients, pre and postmortem care, ritualistic prevention of medication-related errors, rituals of socialization, and nursing ceremonies.

Key Features:

Presents a history of nursing rituals and their significance past and present

Incorporates evidence-based research and an emphasis on caring theory

Demonstrates how understanding and incorporation of nursing rituals can greatly enhance nursing care today

Includes rituals for bathing patients, pre and postmortem care, prevention of medication errors, rituals of socialization, and nursing ceremonies

Features poems and photographs

First Engage Yourself So You Want to Engage Your Employees?【電子書籍】[ Zane Safrit ]
|

Millions of articles and podcasts, thousands of books, flood the internet of things showing managers the myriad ways and resources and principles to help their employees rise from their cubicles and ... engage in their work, with each other, with their managers, with their purpose and mission. Rightfully, so. Companies reporting higher employee engagement levels report higher profits, faster revenue growth, rising cash-flows, greater customer loyalty, fewer accidents ... the list of positive financial outcomes goes on and on. So, why then have employee engagement levels remained unchanged for over the last decade? Why when it makes so much sense, when the connections from an employee’s engagement to their work to the results of their work are more than line of sight, they are line of touch, do employee engagement levels remain unchanged? It may be because “employee engagement” is too often treated as one more mandated program to rain down on the heads of managers and team leaders and then trickle-down on to the employees’ desks. It may be because employees are asked to do what managers and leaders are unwilling to do themselves. It may be because leaders and managers have not fully engaged themselves with their own roles and missions and purposes before going and seeking that commitment from those they lead and manage. Armed with 20+ years experience in call center operations, from entry-level customer service to CEO, Zane Safrit walks you through these simple, affordable, doable steps to first engage yourself before seeking engagement from those you lead. He’s taken these steps himself in creating businesses marked by revenue growth, positive cash flows, customer evangelists built on the foundation of engaged employees. These are simple steps that anyone at any level in a company can take the most important step in creating a culture of engagement. That is to first engage themselves. These step cost nothing but your time and attention. Precious resources, definitely. However, you can start them today with no budgets to be required and approved and no PowerPoint presentations to organize or watch. Then once engaged you can begin to lead by example in creating a culture of engagement with those around you.

The Outlaws of the Wild West: 150+ Westerns in One Edition Cowboy Adventures, Yukon & Oregon Trail Tales, Famous Outlaw Classics, Gold Rush Adventures & more【電子書籍】[ Zane Grey ]
|

'The Outlaws of the Wild West: 150+ Westerns in One Edition' serves as a sweeping anthology that showcases the rugged landscapes and resilient spirits characterizing American Western literature. This collection spans a vast array of narrative styles, from the sparse, gritty realism of frontier life to romanticized adventures among desolate, lawless expanses. The compilation captures an epoch where the morality was as untamed as the terrain, encapsulating themes of survival, justice, and the human condition confronted by the wilderness. Standout works delve into multifaceted interactions between settlers and native populations, outlaws versus lawmen, and the internal conflicts of characters wrestling with a life of isolation versus community pursuits on the harsh frontier. The contributing authors, including pioneers of the genre such as Zane Grey and Owen Wister, alongside literary figures like Mark Twain and Willa Cather, bring an enriched narrative diversity that spans over a century of American literary tradition. Their collective backgroundsーranging from actual frontier experience to academic reconstructions of the Wild Westーoffer a symphonic portrayal of America's expansive, wild heartland. The anthology resonates with key movements of American literature, reflecting elements of romantically infused realism and early modernist tendencies, thereby offering a broad, yet intimate exploration of the zeitgeist of successive eras. The Mysterious Rider - The Original Classic Edition【電子書籍】[ Grey Zane ]
|

This is an earlier Zane Grey work (1921 copyright) but it is well worth the reading. I would highly recommend it for the younger generation, boys or girls.

I found the book very enjoyable. If you want to read a western about shootouts, and that sort of thing, then this is not your book. But for a good, descriptive drama, that grabs you and makes the pages turn, then this is the book for you.

Rancher Bill Belllounds had brought up Columbine as though she were his daughter. Out of affection for her foster father, Columbine had agreed to marry Bills son, Jack-a drunkard, gambler, coward, and thief. But the man she really loved was cowboy Wilson Moore, and he was everything Belllounds son should have been.

Then the strange, clairvoyant little man they called Hell-Bent Wade came to work at the ranch. You can believe me when I say somethin will happen, he declared prophetically. Columbine isnt goin to marry Jack Belllounds.

I loved to read the dialogue, Zane Greys books may be a little dated to the time period when he wrote them, but its still a good book.

In "Arizona Ames," Zane Grey crafts a gripping tale that intertwines adventure, romance, and the stark realities of frontier life in the American West. The narrative unfolds around the life of its titular character, Arizona Ames, a hard-edged yet honorable man grappling with the conflicts of duty and desire.
