In the spring of 1878 there was living in Moscow, in a small wooden house in Shabolovka, a young man of five-and-twenty, called Yakov Aratov. With him lived his father’s sister, an elderly maiden lady, over fifty, Platonida Ivanovna. She took charge of his house, and looked after his household expenditure, a task for which Aratov was utterly unfit. Other relations he had none. A few years previously, his father, a provincial gentleman of small property, had moved to Moscow together with him and Platonida Ivanovna, whom he always, however, called Platosha; her nephew, too, used the same name. On leaving the country-place where they had always lived up till then, the elder Aratov settled in the old capital, with the object of putting his son to the university, for which he had himself prepared him; he bought for a trifle a little house in one of the outlying streets, and established himself in it, with all his books and scientific odds and ends.

Eureka - A Prose Poem "No thinking being lives who, at some luminous point of his life thought, has not felt himself lost amid the surges of futile efforts at understanding, or believing, that anything exists greater than his own soul."【電子書籍】

Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts on January 19th 1809 and was orphaned at an early age. Taken in by the Allan family his education was cut short by lack of money and he went to the military academy, West Point where he failed to become an officer. His early literary works were poetic but he quickly turned to prose. He worked for several magazines and journals until in January 1845 The Raven was published and became an instant classic. Thereafter followed the works for which he is now so rightly famed as a master of the mysterious and macabre. In this volume we bring you 'Eureka' a classic of his longer poems. Although less well known than his stories it is fascinating none the less. Poe died at the early age of 40 in 1849 in Baltimore, Maryland. Many of these of his poems and stories are also available our sister company Portable Poetry. Many samples are at our youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/PortablePoetry?feature=mhee and can be purchased from iTunes, Amazon and other digital stores.

And the way they remain constant. And what did you think love would be like? A summer day? The brambles in their places, and the long stretches of mud? Flowers in every field, in every garden, with their soft beaks and their pastel shoulders? On one street after another, the litter ticks in the gutter. In one room after another, the lovers meet, quarrel, sicken, break apart, cry out. One or two leap from windows. Most simply lean, exhausted, their thin arms on the sill. They have done all they could. The golden eagle, that lives not far from here, has perhaps a thousand tiny feathers flowing from the back of its head, each one shaped like an infinitely small but perfect spear.
"From the chaos of the world, her poems distill what it means to be human and what is worthwhile about life." ー Library Journal
"Her poems do indeed make us 'shiver with praise.'" ー Booklist

Prose poetry can be narrative or lyric. If the style is lyric in both superficial and deep layers, there will be lyric prose poetry, while if the style was narrative in both superficial and deep layers; there will be the narrative prose poetry. But we can find the superficial narrative structure with the deep lyric structure. In this case there will be the hybrid of Narrato-lyric prose poetry, and this the second hybrid inside the first hybrid of proso-poetry. So the Narratolyric prose poetry is a hybrid inside a hybrid or a compound hybridization.

I am happy to introduce these pieces of my experience in narrative lyricism, and for more details about the narratolrysicism you can read my book "Narratolryic Writing" on my website.

According to Wikipedia: "Eureka (1848) is a lengthy non-fiction work by American author Edgar Allan Poe which he subtitled "A Prose Poem", though it has also been subtitled as "An Essay on the Material and Spiritual Universe". Adapted from a lecture he had presented, Eureka describes Poe's intuitive conception of the nature of the universe with no scientific work done to reach his conclusions. He also discusses man's relationship with God, whom he compares to an author. It is dedicated to the German naturalist and explorer Alexander von Humboldt. Though it is generally considered a literary work, some of Poe's ideas anticipate discoveries of the 20th century. Indeed a critical analysis of the scientific content of Eureka reveals a non-causal correspondence with modern cosmology due to the assumption of an evolving Universe, but excludes the anachronistic anticipation of relativistic concepts such as black holes."

Dreaminations is a collection of prose poems in haibun or tanka prose style. Haibun or tanka prose links prose and haiku or tanka to complement each other through juxtaposition to gain a new sensibility, an insight into a significant moment. The linked forms also stand independently with their complete meanings that present two views of each moment, inviting the reader to leap in between for an aesthetic appreciation. That’s the uniqueness of haibun and tanka prose and the fascination of writing them. This collection explores the self and the world through the working of the senses. It is a quest about where to posit the self and how a human being gains learning from nature and human nature.

The definitive translation of the one of the brightest geniuses of French poetry.

The prose poems of the great French Symbolist, Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891), have acquired enormous prestige among readers everywhere and have been a revolutionary influence on poetry in the twentieth century. They are offered here both in their original texts and in superb English translations by Louise Var?se. Mrs. Var?se first published her versions of Rimbaud’s Illuminations in 1946. Since then she has revised her work and has included two poems which in the interim have been reclassified as part of Illuminations. This edition also contains two other series of prose poems, which include two poems only recently discovered in France, together with an introduction in which Miss Var?se discusses the complicated ins and outs of Rimbaldien scholarship and the special qualities of Rimbaud’s writing. Rimbaud was indeed the most astonishing of French geniuses. Fired in childhood with an ambition to write, he gave up poetry before he was twenty-one. Yet he had already produced some of the finest examples of French verse. He is best known for A Season in Hell, but his other prose poems are no less remarkable. While he was working on them he spoke of his interest in hallucinations??"des vertiges, des silences, des nuits." These perceptions were caught by the poet in a beam of pellucid, and strangely active language which still lights up??now here, now there??unexplored aspects of experience and thought.

*** Original and Unabridged Content. Made available by GOLDEN CLASSIC PRESS***

Synopsis:
Eureka An Essay on the Material and Spiritual Universe by Edgar Allan Poe In this remarkable work, master story-teller Edgar Allan Poe builds on known scientific truths to propound a universe governed by the immutable laws of attraction and repulsion, i.e., expansion and a return to unity. The irascible, vindictive God of the Old Testament and the Deists' Master Clockmaker are routed by Poe's pantheistic World Spirit who, through the force of expansion, is diffused throughout his creation. Moreover, we humans are all part of this universal spirit and each of us is his own god. Published after his death, as Poe desired, Eureka was based on a lecture Poe presented in 1848, titled "On The Cosmography of the Universe." He had hoped for an audience of hundreds and that the proceeds of the lecture would pay for his new journal "The Stylus." However, only 60 attended and they went away confused. Eureka remains a startlingly different work from the author's more popular offerings.

Reading Baudelaire's Le Spleen de Paris and the Nineteenth-Century Prose Poem【電子書籍】[ Seth Whidden ]

Through its readings of Charles Baudelaire's collection Le Spleen de Paris and other prose poems from the nineteenth century, this book considers the practice of reading prose poetry and how it might be different from reading poetry in verse. Among the numerous factors that helped shape the nascent modernity in Baudelaire's poetic prose are the poems' themes, forms, linguistic qualities, and modes. The contradictions identifiable at the level of prose poetry's discourse are similarly perceptible in other aspects of Baudelaire's poetic language, beyond the discursive: in the poems' formal considerations, which retain recognisable traces of verse despite their prose presentation; and, with respect to both poetic form and thematics, in the sights and sounds that contribute to their poeticity. With a focus on what makes prose texts poetic, this study sheds light on Baudelaire the practitioner of the prose poem, as he navigated and complicated the boundaries between verse, prose, and poetry. Rather than rejecting those categories, Baudelaire forges a poetic space in which the notions of poetry and prose are recast, juxtaposed in a delicate balance in a textual space they manage to share. This coexistence of poetry and prose--previously thought of as incompatible--is the underlying tension and framework that contributes importantly to the modernity of his prose poetry. In turn, this new mode of poetry calls for new modes of reading poetry and new ways of engaging with a text.

Everyday mindreading, a house full of Buddhas, and the papaya scent of the soul. An interview with Custer at a place of his choosing, "probably a steakhouse." The ability of dogs to smell the uncool. Hitler's barber imagines what might have been if only he'd leaned his weight into the razor. An oblivious Coronado narrowly avoids an ambush on the American plains. Freud lecherously lifts the skirt of a Mexican housekeeper who has far too much work to be bothered by "a pillar of modern thought. Or just some dirty old man."In lesser hands such disparate elements might fly wildly out of control. But in David Shumate's understated, brilliant prose poems, they come together in miraculously vivid riffs. The narrator of the title poem rhapsodizes, "I wouldn't mind seeing another good flood before I die. It's been dry for decades. Next time I think I'll just let go and drift downstream and see where I end up." The Night with James Dean and Other Prose Poems【電子書籍】[ Allison A. deFreese ]

Prose Poetry collection by Allison A. deFreese. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Allison deFreese coordinates multi-language literary translation workshops for the Oregon Society of Translators and Interpreters. Her work appears in Fireweed: Poetry of Oregon, Hunger Mountain, La Piccioletta Barca, Plainsongs, and Waxwing. Her chapbook Nurdles and Other Poems is forthcoming late 2022.

From the very first line of these collected prose poems, Allison deFreese invites us into a world that often feels just beyond what's possible, a world with her stunning writing as our guide, a world freshly familiar and deeply human. The writing - word for word - is a collaboration with the reader, clear-eyed and drawing us in gently. Once there, we are giddily transported and finally grateful for the mysteries that linger from poem to poem. This collection is sensual, sly, funny, full of yearning and its brevity is breathtakingly beautiful.

-- James Still, playwright/author of Dinosaur(s); And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank, and The Velocity of Gary.

Allison A. deFreese's poems not only erase barriers between poetry and prose, they also blur the boundaries between ourselves and the Other: be it a piglet about to freeze, a hummingbird, or our own ghosts. Using language that appeals to the five senses, deFreese brings us closer to the world around us, as if we were seeing it for the first time. Her poems lay bare our shared path, as well as the fine ties binding our existence with that of other beings.

-- Nidia Cuan, author of Las Carta Las cartas que no le? (The Letters I Never Read) and Se?as particulares (Identifying Features)

Repeatedly, in The Night with James Dean and Other Prose Poems, we encounter whimsy made believable, as in the opening vignette, featuring the narrator as the cake at a catfish wedding. In this remarkable little collection, what can't happen does happen. Allison deFreese makes it real: "Rose stems or roman rockets drop like cigar ends, while birds flash silver against a stormy sky and time escapes in the large stack of halved oranges, their pulp pale now as the feeble breeze." Elsewhere, deFreese reflects on the unlikely miracle of being here at all. "Bacon," marvels at the revival of a newborn piglet discovered near frozen in snow. And consider this passage about the role of chance in anyone's arrival on the planet: "Heredity, then, the riches of blooming or booming when odds were you would never be planted, a final sneeze and the night of your conception dissolves in air, an aspirin in water." Immerse yourself in these pages-one marvel and then another.

--David Meischen, author of Anyone's Son, selected Best First Book of Poetry by the Texas Institute of Letters

HE IS A SOLDIER Narrative Prose Poems【電子書籍】[ Anwer Ghani ]

"He is a soldier" is a collection of narrative prose poems by Iraqi prose poetry writer Anwer Ghani .

In literature, there is poetry and prose, and in the middle prose - poetry. According to the characters of the superficial and deep structures of the text, each text or writing has a superficial structure and it is the first building and level of understanding in the process of hearing or reading, and a deep structure which is the analytical level and symbolism in this writing system. While poetry is characterized by deep rhythmic and fragmented superficial structures, prose, on the contrary, is distinguished by its superficial and deep non-rhythmic structure. But in prose poetry, we find the non-rhythmic, non-fragmented surface structure and the deep rhythmic, fragmented structure, which is the reason for the crossbreeding of prose poetry. So, prose poetry is a mixture of prose, poetry, rhythm and non-rhythm.

Prose poetry can be produced in a narrative or lyric manner. If the pattern is lyrical in both superficial and deep layers, then there will be lyrical prose poetry, while if the pattern is narrative in both superficial and deep layers; there will be narrative prose poetry. But we can find a superficial narrative structure with a deep singing, lyrical structure. In this case, narratolyricism, there will be a hybrid of lyrical prose poetry, and this is the second hybrid within the first hybrid of the lyrical poetry. So narrative prose poetry is a hybrid within a hybrid.

The narrative prose poem is a narrative poetic text written in one block, in a horizontal form and based on the narrative writing and deep poetic revelation, which is one of the works of the “Arab Renewal Group” which was founded in Baghdad in 2015.

Anwer Ghani

The Trauma Mantras A Memoir in Prose Poems【電子書籍】[ Adrie Kusserow ]

The Trauma Mantras is a memoir by medical anthropologist, teacher, and writer Adrie Kusserow, who has worked with refugees and humanitarian projects in Bhutan, Nepal, India, Uganda, South Sudan, and the United States. It is a memoir of witness and humility and, ultimately, a way to critique and gain a fresh perspective on Western approaches to the self, suffering, and healing. Kusserow interrogates the way American culture prizes a psychologized individualism, the supposed fragility of the self. In relentlessly questioning the Western tribe of individualism with a hunger to bust out of such narrow confines, she hints at the importance of widening the American self. As she delves into humanity’s numerous social and political ills, she does not let herself off the hook, reflecting rigorously on her own position and commitments. Kusserow travels the world in these poetic meditations, exploring the desperate fictions that “East” and “West” still cling to about each other, the stories we tell about ourselves and obsessively weave from the dominant cultural meanings that surround us.
