Ehrman, the New York Times bestselling author of Jesus, Interrupted and God’s Problem reveals which books in the Bible’s New Testament were not passed down by Jesus’s disciples, but were instead forged by other handsーand why this centuries-hidden scandal is far more significant than many scholars are willing to admit. Think Like An Architect How to develop critical, creative and collaborative problem-solving skills【電子書籍】[ Randy Deutsch ]

Do you know how to think like an architect? Do you know why you should? How do you make sure that you have the critical thinking tools necessary to prosper in your academic and professional career? This book gives you the answers.

Architects have a valuable and critical set of multiple thinking types that they develop throughout the design process. In this book, Randy Deutsch shows readers how to access those thinking types and use them outside pure design thinking ? showing how they can both solve problems but also identify the problems that need solving. To think the way the best architects do.

With a clear, driving narrative, peppered with anecdote, stories and real-life scenarios, this book will future-proof the architectural student. Change is coming in the architecture profession, and this is a much-needed exploration of the critical thinking skills that architects have in abundance, but that are not taught well enough within architecture schools. These skills are crucial in being able to respond agilely to a future that nobody is quite sure of.

ー Qui donc ? ー Vous. ー Et moi, je me prononce. Votre incertitude d?cide.

Flights and Sink: Two Plays【電子書籍】[ John O'Donovan ]

Two plays about contemporary life in Ireland, from award-winning writer John O'Donovan.

On the outskirts of Ennis, on a dark and stormy night, three men gather for the anniversary of a childhood friend, killed in a road accident when they were seventeen. Expecting a crowd and tearing into the cans, the three slowly realise they're the only ones coming. As they drink to their uncertain futures ? and their receding youth ? they're forced to face up to the ghost that has held them together.

Flights is a haunting and funny play about bereavement, brotherhood and breaking away from your past. It premiered in 2020 at gl?r in Ennis before transferring to Dublin and London, directed by Thomas Martin.

Sink is a play of two voices for one actor, about memory, catastrophe and sacrifice. Br?d's coming home to convalesce after drying out in rehab. Ciara's headed west too, investigating a potential archaeological site on a parched area of bogland. But as the countryside swelters in a heatwave, the pair find peace elusive. How will Br?d cope in her old haunts? How will Ciara confront a past she thought forgotten? And will they unearth the hidden truth that binds them together?

Sink premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival in 2019, directed by Thomas Martin.

Elliot M. Rubin's Kitchen Sink Poetry is an evocative and unfiltered collection that captures the essence of everyday life, blending personal reflection, social critique, and raw emotion. True to its title, the collection embraces a "kitchen sink" approach, tackling various subjects-from politics and history to love, loss, and the mundanities of daily existence. Rubin's preface sets the tone for the book, emphasizing accessibility in poetry, ensuring that readers from all walks of life can engage with his work without needing a literary background.

The collection is deeply rooted in the tradition of progressive beat poetry, a genre that challenges social norms and amplifies marginalized voices. Many of the poems take a bold stance on contemporary political issues, addressing inequality, freedom, and justice with striking honesty. Pieces like Congress, Not in My America, and Gerrymander Party critique systemic failures, while others, such as Flowers of Ukraine and Insurrection, weave historical and current events into poetic form. Rubin's voice is both reflective and urgent, demanding readers to confront uncomfortable truths.

However, the collection is not solely political; it explores personal and intimate moments with tenderness and nostalgia. Poems like Revisiting Childhood, Pushing Eighty, and Father's Day 2023 meditate on the passage of time, memory, and the relationships that shape us. Rubin's ability to juxtapose the weight of historical struggles with deeply personal recollections showcases his range as a poet. Whether reflecting on aging, grief, or the small joys of life, his writing maintains an authenticity that resonates with readers.

Ultimately, Kitchen Sink Poetry is a compelling and unvarnished look at modern existence through the eyes of a poet unafraid to speak his mind. Rubin's work is thought-provoking, sometimes humorous, and often poignant, capturing the beauty and contradictions of life. Whether one seeks poetry that challenges societal norms or wishes to find moments of personal reflection, this collection offers something for everyone, making it a worthy read for lovers of contemporary poetry.

Kitchen Sink Realisms Domestic Labor, Dining, and Drama in American Theatre【電子書籍】[ Dorothy Chansky ]

From 1918’s Tickless Time through Waiting for Lefty, Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, A Raisin in the Sun, and The Prisoner of Second Avenue to 2005’s The Clean House, domestic labor has figured largely on American stages. No dramatic genre has done more than the one often dismissively dubbed “kitchen sink realism” to both support and contest the idea that the home is naturally women’s sphere. But there is more to the genre than even its supporters suggest.

In analyzing kitchen sink realisms, Dorothy Chansky reveals the ways that food preparation, domestic labor, dining, serving, entertaining, and cleanup saturate the lives of dramatic characters and situations even when they do not take center stage. Offering resistant readings that rely on close attention to the particular cultural and semiotic environments in which plays and their audiences operated, she sheds compelling light on the changing debates about women’s roles and the importance of their household labor across lines of class and race in the twentieth century.

The story begins just after World War I, as more households were electrified and fewer middle-class housewives could afford to hire maids. In the 1920s, popular mainstream plays staged the plight of women seeking escape from the daily grind; African American playwrights, meanwhile, argued that housework was the least of women’s worries. Plays of the 1930s recognized housework as work to a greater degree than ever before, while during the war years domestic labor was predictably recruited to the war effortーsometimes with gender-bending results. In the famously quiescent and anxious 1950s, critiques of domestic normalcy became common, and African American maids gained a complexity previously reserved for white leading ladies. These critiques proliferated with the re-emergence of feminism as a political movement from the 1960s on. After the turn of the century, the problems and comforts of domestic labor in black and white took center stage. In highlighting these shifts, Chansky brings the real home.

But Wait ... There's More! Tighten Your Abs, Make Millions, and Learn How the $100 Billion Infomercial Industry Sold Us Everything But the Kitchen Sink【電子書籍】[ Remy Stern ]

Whether it was a Ginsu knife, George Foreman Grill, Tony Robbins' motivational book, kitchen device by Ron Popeil, or any of the countless other famous products that have been marketed on infomercials over the years, admit it: you or someone you know has bought oneーand you're not alone. Last year, one out of every three Americans picked up the phone and ordered a product from a television infomercial or home shopping network, and in But Wait . . . There's More! journalist (and infomercial addict) Remy Stern offers a lively, behind-the-scenes exploration of this enormous businessーone that markets the world's most outrageous products using the most outrageous tactics.

Don't let the kitschy exterior fool you: behind the laughable demonstrations, goofy grins, and cheesy dialogue lies an industry larger than the film and music industries combined. The first book of its kind, But Wait . . . There's More! exposes the never-before-told story of the infomercial and home shopping phenomenon in all its excessive glory and its meteoric rise to become one of the most profitable businesses in America.

Along the way, Stern details the history behind the classic products and introduces readers to some of the most famous (and infamous) pitchmen and personalities in the business, including Tony Robbins, Billy Mays, Ron Popeil, Tony Little, Suzanne Somers, Kevin Trudeau, and Joe Francis. He also presents an in-depth look at the business behind the cameraーthe canny sales strategies, clever psychological tools, and occasionally questionable tactics marketers have used to get us to open up our wallets and spend, spend, spend.

Stern's eye-opening account also offers a penetrating look at how late-night television conquered the American consumer and provides insight into modern American culture: our rampant consumerism, our desire for instant riches, and our collective dream of perfect abs, unblemished skin, and gleaming white teeth. Both a compelling business story and a thoroughly entertaining piece of investigative journalism (with a touch of muckraking and social satire), But Wait . . . There's More! will ensure that you never look at those too-good-to-be-true deals the same way again.

Gene Smith's Sink A Wide-Angle View【電子書籍】[ Sam Stephenson ]

An incisive biography of the prolific photo-essayist W. Eugene Smith

Famously unabashed, W. Eugene Smith was photography’s most celebrated humanist. As a photo essayist at Life magazine in the 1940s and ’50s, he established himself as an intimate chronicler of human culture. His photographs of war and disaster, villages and metropolises, doctors and midwives, revolutionized the role of images in journalism, transforming photography for decades to come.

When Smith died in 1978, he left behind eighteen dollars in the bank and forty-four thousand pounds of archives. He was only fifty-nine, but he was flat worn-out. His death certificate read “stroke,” but, as was said of the immortal jazzman Charlie Parker, Smith died of “everything,” from drug and alcohol benders to weeklong work sessions with no sleep.

Lured by the intoxicating trail of people that emerged from Smith’s stupefying archive, Sam Stephenson began a quest to trace his footsteps. In Gene Smith’s Sink, Stephenson merges traditional biography with rhythmic digressions to revive Smith’s life and legacy. Traveling across twenty-nine states, Japan, and the Pacific, Stephenson profiles a lively cast of characters, including the playwright Tennessee Williams, to whom Smith likened himself; the avant-garde filmmaker Stan Brakhage, with whom he once shared a Swiss chalet; the artist Mary Frank, who was married to his friend Robert Frank; the jazz pianists Thelonious Monk and Sonny Clark, whose music was taped by Smith in his loft; and a series of obscure caregivers who helped keep Smith on his feet. The distillation of twenty years of research, Gene Smith’s Sink is an unprecedented look into the photographer’s potent legacy and the subjects around him.

The Kitchen Sink【電子書籍】[ Rick Bramhall ]

A collection of shorter works not long enough to warrant individual covers, this volume is a dredging up of pieces from the writer's past, both recent and not so. Consists of two stage plays: "Jesus, Moses and Buddha Walk Into a Bar" and "Gilgamesh: The Man, the Myth, the Musical." Three essays deal with men's chemical dependency in sex, terrorism and the Kennedy administration's failings in their policy toward Cuba and Castro. Also three short stories: "When Your Shoes Walk Out on You," a vampire romp called "My School Sucks" and a meeting in "The Giant Rat of Sumatra" of the mythological Holmes and the real but largely forgotten Alfred Russell Wallace. A plausible solution of the "giant rat" lies in a very real creature of Sumatra. Scattered among these longer pieces like so many illogical landmines are six brief poems. Quite by accident, most of these works deal with mythology in that the author's work tends to question things most people take for granted.

Sink or Swim Catholicism in Sixties Britain through John Ryan's Cartoons【電子書籍】[ Alana Harris ]

The Sixties was an iconic decade, conjuring images of marked generational conflict and “sex, drugs and rock-n-roll”, but also of the Second Vatican Council (1962?5), the “permissive” legislation and Britain’s counter-culture, as well as the social transformations of the period encompassing ecumenism, the advent of the women’s movement and the beginning of the Troubles.

Better known as the creator of the BBC television series Captain Pugwash, John Ryan (1921?2009), through his weekly illustrations in the Catholic Herald, offered a topical interrogation of the British Catholic Church’s sometimes adaptive, though often inflexible responses to the changes and challenges of the period. This collection of Ryan’s cartoons provides a personal portrait of the extraordinary ups and downs of religion in the Sixtiesーencompassing the machinations of popes and cardinals, the testimony of expert witnesses, runaway priests, radical reformists and lay protest movements.
