It's Not All Roses【電子書籍】[ Simphiwe Sihawu Dlamini ]
|

The Love diary is a poetry book about love particularly romantic and family love. The writer stirs our imagination by giving us a variety of poems that enlighten us about different situations experienced by people in their love journey. Each and every person's journey is different when it comes to romantic love. Some long to be loved but fall into the arms of people who don't believe in love, take relationships for granted and end up broken. However, being broken does not mean you cannot love again and find someone to love you. You need to be brave and love again. Love is great, it conquers all and where there is love there is hope. There is no hate, nor grudges. To love does not mean you cannot be hurt. Love can be a source of joy, peace and progress as much as it can be a source a pain and setbacks. The poems in this book tell different kind of interesting stories which many people relate with. These love poems bring hope, help the people find comfort, encourage lovers to cherish and appreciate each other more.

What is life like without arms?

Rod Haines was born in 1942, at a time when doctors freely gave advice on options of what to do with this armless baby, and whom they thought would also have limited brain function.

Rod was the middle child of five children and his childhood was full of love, support and encouragement from family and friends. He was mainstreamed at school and went on to university to become a lawyer, and later diverting into other academic areas, especially in the Health area. He has built several boats using his feet as his hands, and ventured into all sorts of crazy activities like skydiving, land yachting, gliding, water skiing …….

Rod met his sweetheart Leonie (Bunny) in his 20s and later they married. Their combined family of three children, Nicki, Steve and Sam shared in their early boating adventures around the Waimea Estuary in Nelson, until the time came when it was just the two of them left and they built their beloved boatahome Gentle, on which they now spend their summers cruising and exploring New Zealand inland waters.

This story touches on aspects of Rod’s life growing up without arms, how he has adapted to fit in with his environment and how he helps others adapt to his environment. His passion for justice and equal treatment for all has guided his career path and his community work (often done in the background). He tries hard to put people at ease when they first meet him and his sense of humour and dry wit leaves us with wanting to know more about this quirky character who has a different take on life.

I Promise Not To Suffer A Fool for Love Hikes the Pacific Crest Trail【電子書籍】[ Gail D. Storey ]
|

"Witty, wise, and full of heart, Gail Storey’s winning memoir of her hike on the Pacific Crest Trail at the age of fifty-six is a book for every one who ever dreamed of taking the road less traveled. I Promise Not to Suffer is as inspiring as it is hilarious, as poignant as it is smart. It’s one of those oh-please-don’t-let-it-end books. I’d carry it in my backpack anywhere.”ーCheryl Strayed, author of Wild

With comfortable urban lives in Houston, Texas, and career and life goals mostly accomplished, Gail D. Storey and her husband were in their fifties when they decided it was time to test themselves on a new pathーa 2,663-mile path known as the Pacific Crest Trail, which stretches from Mexico to Canada.

I Promise Not to Suffer is Gail's light-hearted yet heart-felt memoir about her and her husband's adventures and misadventures, deepening marriage, and reflections on being irrevocably changed by life on the trail. She was a novice hiker, while he was an experienced outdoorsman. Removed from their usual routines and living outside in the wilderness for months exposed hidden intricacies in their relationship. Hiking 20 miles a day over mountains, thirsting in the high desert of California, forcing frozen feet into icy socks and boots each morning in the High Sierra, stumbling through lava fields in OregonーGail was required to meet the elements on their own tough-love terms. From an encounter with a mountain lion to her mother's battle with cancer at home, she confronts each challenge with wit and brave style. While a dangerous loss of weight forces Gail to leave the PCT after 900 miles, she regains strength and later rejoins her husband on sections until he triumphantly reaches the northern terminus in Canada.

Humorous yet honest, this journey of harrowing hilarity and reluctant revelations will be loved by active hikers (appendices include details of their unique ultralight gear and other essential how-to information), fans of female adventure stories, and armchair travelers alike.

Praise for I Promise Not To Suffer:

“At times wrenching memoir, at times hilarious, I Promise Not to Suffer pulls no punches and has a wicked sense of fun. Storey reminds me again of what is possible with a big imagination, a dose of scrappy courage, and a lot of love.”
--Peter Heller, author of The Dog Stars and Kook

“Some have called Gail Storey the Nora Ephron of the wilderness. With her own unique wit, Storey shares Ephron’s commitment to creating and tending a long, nourishing marriage. I Promise Not to Suffer is a portrait of a union that does not fray or break under pressure but is forged, toughened, and tenderized.”
--Sara Davidson, author of Leap!, Loose Change, and The December Project

“Of the many books that I have read about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, none have captured the trail experience from so many different perspectives.Single hikers, couples, and those who stay behind will all enjoy Gail Storey’s account of the challenges, the beauty, and the PCT community found along the way.”
--Liz Bergeron, Executive Director and CEO, Pacific Crest Trail Association

Shackle Me Not【電子書籍】[ Amarinda Jones ]

“I wouldn’t marry you now if you were the last man on the bloody planet.” Katharine Mayflower tugged at the engagement ring on her finger.
Wil Sattler reached for her hand. “It was just a kiss.”
Katharine pulled away, still working on getting the ring off. “With tongue no doubt.” While she hadn’t seen the kiss, it was reported to her as being very full on. She had been waiting nervously, dressed in her frosty wedding dress, to walk down the aisle to marry the man she loved when she had been told the news. It had hit her hard. She was on edge enough without being told Wil was kissing another woman.
“You are blowing this out of proportion.”
“I am not.” Katharine glared at him. “Do you deny you kissed her?”
Wil ran a hand through his hair, the frustration evident in his blue eyes. “Grace is a friend.”
“A close one by the looks of it.” Katharine stumbled on the hem of her wedding dress. It was one her mother had insisted she wear. It was a ghastly confection of tulle and organza that made her feel like a virgin sacrifice. Which she wasn’t. But Katharine had worn it to shut her mother up. Leona Mayflower could whine with the best of them if she wanted something done her way. Katharine had just wanted the wedding over and done with. Maybe it wasn’t the most romantic way to look at it but the whole matrimonial spectacular was not her scene and as the actual moment approached Katharine was so strung out that hearing bad news about her groom was enough to make her believe the worst. Katharine twisted the ring on her finger. Why won’t this ring come off?
Wil sighed, running a hand through his hair as he watched her. “What are you doing?”
“Giving you your ring back.” Though at this stage it appeared she was going to have to give up one finger to do it.
“Bratー”
Katharine stiffened. “Don’t call me that.” It was a term of endearment between them. Or had been. But that’s all over now. Kissing someone else was not acceptable to her and she wasn’t in the mood to listen to excuses. If Katharine were honest, there was a lot of relief mixed in with her anger. I needed a reason to break this off.
“You’re acting like one.”

DEEP TALK: Death Does Not Exist【電子書籍】[ Judy Barnes (Ashmar) ]
|

Deep Talk traces the spiritual journey of a woman after her 16-year-old son tries to commit suicide.

His NDE (Near-Death Experience) being so dramatically unlike any others she’d read about, has Judy investigating spirituality in more depth. Religion, per se, (in her case, Christianity) leaves her cold as she realises the answers won’t be found among man-made dogmas. In addition, she becomes aware that scholars have misinterpreted Jesus’s words of ‘ye have but one life’. Seeing as reincarnation was part of the original bible and Jesus returned to earth after being crucified, it makes perfect sense.

From the scientific viewpoint, Albert Einstein said that ‘energy never dies’ and Judy recognises that we are energy. Therefore, reincarnation is a valid standpoint.

However, if our energy (or spirit/soul) lives on, it must have a home. Strangely enough, many people with terminal illnesses in hospices, fed-up and impatient to leave their sick, physical bodies, often mention ‘wanting to go home’ ? a somewhat curious comment.

Through hypnotherapy (very deep relaxation) Judy revisits some of her past lives ? one as a Greek female oracle in 1200BC, another as a male Roman soldier in 673BC, yet another as a female teacher in England in 1838. Through these lives she understands herself better and her progress in this life.

Her most wonderful experience though was visiting the Spirit World itself, meeting her Master Guide and the ‘inner core’ members of her soul family. To see them (some from the same family as this life) is a revelation. She is stunned to recognise one of her earthly soulmates from this group too. The other shock is discovering that her whole family knows what is happening in her present life. Her research reveals we can identify those in the Spirit World who are ‘still living’, as we all leave a percentage of our energy in that world before being born.

On her death bed and unable to speak because of her morphine medication, Judy’s terminally-ill mother (a staunch atheist) still refuses to believe in an after-life. However, not long after her spirit leaves her body, she speaks to Judy, reassuring her that she now feels wonderful.

Judy’s late father instructs her in what to do, saving her life when she is driving on dirt roads and spins-out not once but twice in Africa, while a voice that she feels could be God or an advanced Master or guide ? but definitely someone very ‘in control’ advises her how to react when she is on the brink of being murdered in Australia.

Her son’s NDE makes sense when seen from the fact that we are all energy and the explanatory picture he draws as to where his body is travelling clarifies it.

A strange dream’s meaning is revealed 34 years later and Judy is alerted to an urgent medical problem by an African traditional healer. Cancer invades her body but she knows it is not her time to cross over. A third soulmate enters her life. It is all, deep talk.

The powerful, personal story of how a woman whose entire identity was rooted in homosexuality and poverty thinking became transformed and set free into her true identity as a beautiful, strong woman through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

When life turns upside-down, who do you turn to? And when you turn to God, what do you do when His very presence in your life disrupts everything you thought was true about yourself, your relationships, and your sexual identity?

That was the challenging, yet ultimately freeing place that music-lover Terrie Broom found herself facing. With the unexpected, untimely death of her brother due to complications from AIDS, Terrie began seeking answers to her grief...which miraculously led her to an encounter with God.

The only problem? Her long-term, same-sex partner didn't want to come along on that spiritual journey. Terrie's entire world suddenly turned upside-down as she lost her beloved home, her pets, many friends, and her income.

Facing grief, loss, a dramatic breakup, financial struggles, and loneliness, Terrie had no choice but to double down on her faith in God, no matter what. With each season, she gained valuable insights into God's love for her through devotional time, the help of godly people supporting her journey-and music that spoke to her struggles and provided powerful encouragement to continue to walk in faith.

Part memoir, part devotional, part homage to all kinds of music, Terrie's inspiring, open-hearted, authentic story of change and freedom is a powerful reminder of how God can truly transform anyone and everyone-no matter what you're going through. You'll be encouraged to open your life to God's transforming power, trusting as Terrie did, that all things work for our good-and all for His glory.

War is not Cool at all, Fools! As I Remember It.【電子書籍】[ Hiroko Falkenstein ]
|
WHEN THE JAPANESE navy attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, it triggered a massive U.S. retaliation and a succession of incendiary bombardments. War is not Cool at all, Fools!, is a collection of poetry called Tanka, written by the author Hiroko Falkenstein. Each poem is beautifully written, yet profound, and can be read in a matter of seconds. However, as the author explains, the meaning of each poem might take longer to fully absorb. When Tokyo was hit during the U.S. bombings, amid hellish chaos, Hiroko’s family quickly fled the capital in a jam-packed train to the relative safety of a fishing village. They were in the minority of those who were fortunate enough to escape; however, life would become even tougher thereafter as streets were filled with the homeless, the wounded and orphans who were begging for food . . . casualties of war who would feel the effects almost twenty years after the war had come to an end. This book of poetry is an intimate, personal account of a Japanese woman’s childhood and adult experiences during and after the Second World War. Each poem is concise, moving, and somewhat harrowing in the description of the casualties of war.

"Nein", murmelt Fanner.

Not Out of Hate A Novel of Burma【電子書籍】[ Ma Ma Lay ]
|

Not Out of Hateーpublished in Burmese in 1955 and set in 1939?42ーwas Ma Ma Lay’s fifth novel and one that further cemented her status as one of twentieth-century Burma’s foremost writers and voices for change. A journalist by trade, Lay applied her straightforward observational style with compassion and purpose to the story of Way Way, a teenage village girl whose quiet life assisting her father in his rice-brokerage business is disrupted by the arrival of U Saw Han, the cosmopolitan Burmese rice trader twenty years her senior. When she first encounters him, Way Way is entranced by his Western furnishings, servants, and mannerisms. The two marry, but before long, it becomes clear that U Saw Han’s love is a stifling one that seeks to obliterate her traditional ways.

Not Out of Hate was enormously popular in Burma and went through several editions in the 1950s and 1960s. When Ohio University Press published its English translation, in 1991, it became the first significant fictional account of prewar Burma available in English since George Orwell’s Burmese Days, and provided a Burmese counterpoint to Orwell’s novel. Translated into English here for the first time, the novel is an engaging drama, finely observed work of social realism, and stirring rejection of Western cultural dominance.

He wondered if he mattered at all.

In this expanded edition of Alone in Plain Sight, Ben shares with inspiring vulnerability how he found the deeper connection he longed for. He offers insight on

how to understand ourselves more deeply so that we are free to connect with others;

how shared pain can bridge even the widest gaps between two very different people;

how marriage and fatherhood have shaped his understanding of vulnerability and connection;

how the God who longs for relationship with us is the answer to our need for connection; and

in an all-new chapter, how radical generosity, service, and community building can lead to an even greater depth of relationship.

In a disconnected world, it is possible to have lasting purpose and peace. Be Not Afraid: Stories From the New Testament【電子書籍】[ Catharine Shaw ]
|

By the Lake of Galilee there is rising ground, situated near several villages on the borders of the lake, where it is believed the Lord Jesus spoke those wonderful words which are called "The Sermon on the Mount." Travellers who have been to this spot tell us that the rising, rocky ground, which is called "The Horns of Hattin," would be a most convenient place for any one who was speaking to large numbers of people. And it is here, it is thought, our Lord, "seeing the multitudes" who had followed Him from the villages beneath the mountain, spoke to them of the blessings which they might possess if they kept His words; and explained to them the duties which were laid upon those who loved Him, and the blessings in store for them. In an earthly school, the children are told of the prizes which will be given for earnest endeavour; and each one on entering the school is able to read the list of these rewards, and the conditions which are attached to them. We all understand more or less of this earthly competitionーthis great endeavour to do our best, to see some result of our hard work, to have the joy of receiving a prize or of earning the approbation of the master who helps us to the attainment of our ideal. This is in an earthly schoolーnow we are going to turn to the heavenly side of life. So when our Lord Jesus Christ, from that rocky eminence raised above the multitude, spoke to them and saidー?"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heavenー"? It seems to me that there is hidden in His words a Promise; and also a Way made plain, to obtain the Prize. ?So the first "Blessed" is:? "Blessed are the poor in spirit"; and the promise is: "For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."? "The poor in spirit" does not mean a weak man, but one who knows how likely he is to fail, and therefore does not trust in himself or his pride, but looks up into God's face, instead of into his own faulty doings. In a little country town in the West of England, about a hundred years ago, there lived a man who was spoken of as "half-witted." He was a general favourite; but if, at any time, he was twitted by the boys, or good-humouredly questioned by older people, his invariable answer wasー?"I'm a poor Sinner, and nothing at all;?But Jesus Christ is my All-in-All."? Whatever else he had missed, he had learned the blessedness of being "poor in spirit," and his reward has been, for many a long day, an entrance into "the Kingdom of Heaven." "Thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, Whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones."

Comedian Iain Stirling is best known as the brilliantly funny voice of the BAFTA-award winning smash hit Love Island. Despite his many accolades, and his mum telling him he’s her ‘special little soldier’ every day, Iain still struggles with everyday adult life. What a textbook millennial.

From the brilliantly funny voice behind the BAFTA-winning smash hit Love Island comes a scrutinising dissection of millennial life, giving the finger to ‘adulthood’ (whatever that means) along the way.

Throughout life millennials have been taught that they are perfect and should live a perfect life. They’ve been told, whatever happens, don’t screw up. So is it any wonder they have acquired an image of being self-obsessed, work-shy, mollycoddled egomaniacs? Iain argues that beneath this facade is a misunderstood generation with a crippling fear of failure.
