This carefully crafted ebook: "The Phantom of the Opera & The Mystery of the Yellow Room (Mystery Classics)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents: "The Mystery of the Yellow Room" is one of the first locked-room mystery crime fiction novels. It is the first novel starring fictional detective Joseph Rouletabille, and concerns a complex and seemingly impossible crime in which the criminal appears to disappear from a locked room. Leroux provides the reader with detailed, precise diagrams and floorplans illustrating the scene of the crime. The emphasis of the story is firmly on the intellectual challenge to the reader, who will almost certainly be hard pressed to unravel every detail of the situation. "The Phantom of the Opera" is a story inspired by historical events at the Paris Opera during the nineteenth century. Opera singer Christine triumphs at the gala on the night of the old managers' retirement. Her old childhood friend, Raoul, hears her sing and recalls his love for Christine. At this time, there are rumours of a phantom living at the Opera and he makes himself known to the managers through letters and malevolent acts. Sometime after the gala, the Paris Opera performs Faust, with the prima donna Carlotta playing the lead, against the Phantom's wishes. During the performance, Carlotta loses her voice and the grand chandelier plummets into the audience... Gaston Leroux (1868-1927) was a French journalist and author of detective fiction. In the English-speaking world, he is best known for writing the novel The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fant?me de l'Op?ra, 1910), which has been made into several film and stage productions of the same name.

The Yellow Wallpaper (Book Center)【電子書籍】[ Charlotte Perkins Gilman ]

"The Yellow Wallpaper" is a 6,000-word short story by American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, first published in January 1892 in New England Magazine. It is regarded as an important early work of American feminist literature, illustrating attitudes in the 19th century toward women's physical and mental health. The story is written in the first person as a series of journal entries. The narrator is a woman whose husband ー a physician ー has confined her to the upstairs bedroom of a house he has rented for the summer. She is forbidden from working and has to hide her journal entries from him so that she can recuperate from what he has diagnosed as a "temporary nervous depression ー a slight hysterical tendency;" a diagnosis common to women in that period. The windows of the room are barred, and there is a gate across the top of the stairs, allowing her husband to control her access to the rest of the house. The story illustrates the effect of confinement on the narrator's mental health, and her descent into psychosis. With nothing to stimulate her, she becomes obsessed by the pattern and color of the room's wallpaper

To you, I say, not a moment to lose."ーJohn Balzar, Los Angeles Times

Life ashore may once again be the undoing of Jack Aubrey in The Yellow Admiral, Patrick O'Brian's best-selling novel and eighteenth volume in the Aubrey/Maturin series. Aubrey, now a considerable though impoverished landowner, has dimmed his prospects at the Admiralty by his erratic voting as a Member of Parliament; he is feuding with his neighbor, a man with strong Navy connections who wants to enclose the common land between their estates; he is on even worse terms with his wife, Sophie, whose mother has ferreted out a most damaging trove of old personal letters. Even Jack's exploits at sea turn sour: in the storm waters off Brest he captures a French privateer laden with gold and ivory, but this at the expense of missing a signal and deserting his post. Worst of all, in the spring of 1814, peace breaks out, and this feeds into Jack's private fears for his career.

Fortunately, Jack is not left to his own devices. Stephen Maturin returns from a mission in France with the news that the Chileans, to secure their independence, require a navy, and the service of English officers. Jack is savoring this apparent reprieve for his career, as well as Sophie's forgiveness, when he receives an urgent dispatch ordering him to Gibraltar: Napoleon has escaped from Elba.

Tiny Yellow Hat Autobiographical Anecdotes Packaged in a Memoir【電子書籍】[ J. Michael Chamberlain ]

This wildly entertaining book is laced with wicked concepts, cheap shots, and a few bright ideas; a feast of funny words and clever notions without once mentioning vampires, aliens, or zombies. J. M. Chamberlain created the perfect blend of madcap rants and true-life experiences regarding his years on the road as a stand-up comedian, actor, and writer; a compilation of rapid-fire essays guaranteed to put a never-ending smile on your face. Actually, a never-ending smile might be cause for alarm; if your smile lasts longer than four hours, the author suggests phoning your family physician. In addition, J.M. Chamberlain gives the reader/listener insight into the day-to-day experiences that make our collective heads tilt like puppies unraveling high-pitched noises and howl at the moon. At the end of the day, J.M. Chamberlain has the uncanny ability to dissect the human condition and reassemble the parts into a creative, imaginative, and hilarious profile. Simply put, this extraordinary slice of life is almost too good to read; nevertheless, I suggest reading it anyway. I also suggest telling forty or fifty of your closest friends to read/listen to Tiny Yellow Hat. Why? Because, now more than ever, people need to laugh.
