The Pandemic Information Solution Overcoming the Brutal Economics of Covid-19【電子書籍】[ Joshua Gans ]

Covid-19 is a global pandemic inflicting large health and economic costs. In his previous book, The Pandemic Information Gap: The Brutal Economics of COVID-19 (MIT Press, 2020), economist Joshua Gans explains that those costs have been so large because governments and others have lacked the information needed to control the pandemic. Unless we know who is infectious, we can't break the chains of transmission, which results in the escalation of our problems. Pandemics, he writes, are information problems.

Now, in this follow-up book, Gans outlines the solution to the information gap. By engaging in rapid, frequent screening, we can control the pandemic and restore normality. We can lower the number of cases, break chains of transmission, and make it safe for people to interact again. This will require changing our mindset about testing, gathering the right information, and matching that information to the right decisions. We have the ingredients to do all these things. We just need to put them together in a scalable and sustainable system. This book is a guide to the issues and trade-offs that policymakers and other key decision-makers need to grapple with and follow.

COVID-19 Impact on Indian Economy and Economic Remedial Measures In Overall Context of World Economy【電子書籍】[ Dr.V.V.L.N. Sastry ]

COVID 19 pandemic has devastated the global economy, and India is one of the countries that has felt the full economic devastation of the pandemic. The pandemic led to the losses of jobs of millions of people. It also led to the abrupt halting of the economic activities in various sectors. It affected both the industrial production and services sectors of the Indian economy. The impact of the pandemic on the economy is evident in the GDP growth of the country for the first quarter (April ?June) and the second quarter (July- September) of the fiscal year 2020. The country has experienced for the first time consecutive periods of contraction of GDP, which made it fall into a recession economy for the first time. However, some of the blame of the adverse impact of the pandemic on the economy may be heaped on to the government. The government implemented policies have adversely aggravated the economic situation currently faced by India. In addition, the government did not implement effective measures to deal with the economic fallout of the pandemic. Since the pandemic is unique and faced by the world for the first time, the current study looked at the impact, and some of the measures that may expedite the recovery of Indian economy.

COVID-19 and Risk Society across the MENA Region Assessing Governance, Democracy, and Inequality【電子書籍】[ Larbi Sadiki ]

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic ? at the interlocking levels of politics, economy, and society ? have been different across regions, states, and societies. In the case of the Middle East and North Africa, which was already in the throes of intense tumult following the onset of the 2011 Arab Spring, COVID's blows have on the one hand followed the trajectory of some global patterns, while at the same time playing out in regionally specific ways.

Based on empirical country-level analysis, this volume brings together an international team of contributors seeking to untangle how COVID-19 unfolds across the MENA. The analyses are framed through a contextual adaptation of Ulrich Beck's famous concept of “risk society” that pinpointed the negative consequences of modernity and its unbridled capitalism. The book traces how this has come home in full force in the COVID-19 pandemic. The editors, Larbi Sadiki and Layla Saleh, use the term "Arab risk society". They highlight short-term and long-term repercussions across the MENA. These include socio-economic inequality, a revitalized state of authoritarianism challenged by relentless democratic struggles.

But the analyses are attuned to problem-solving research. The "ethnographies of the pandemic" included in this book investigate transformations and coping mechanisms within each country case study. They provide an ethically-informed research praxis that can respond to the manifold crises crashing down upon MENA polities and societies

COVID-19, Technology and Marketing Moving Forward and the New Normal【

This book addresses how Covid-19 has damaged businesses and how businesses can adapt to the new normal. In doing so, the book contributes to theories associated with the marketing management, by assessing opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of technology and marketing management during and post Covid-19.

Although there is increasing research in consumer or business management acceptance of new technologies and digital marketing, the impact of these on marketing management during the Covid-19 are not adequately investigated, leading to overstated hypothetical predictions of its future potential. Chapters in the book therefore focus on new economic models such as sharing economy and business structures such as omnichannel, where advancements have enabled firms to build a one-on-one relationship with customers by collecting, storing, aggregating and analysing customer information across various touchpoints. Contributions in the book also focus on new technologies such as blockchain, automation solution, information technology management, and customer relationship management (CRM) in highlighting connections between these new technologies and marketing management.

The book will be useful for anyone aiming to gain a better understanding of the current and future technologies that may play a role or have a robust impact on marketing management during Covid-19.

Research on Teacher Stress Implications for the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond【

This volume informs our understanding of how educational settings can respond to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Teaching has always been a challenging profession but the pandemic has added unprecedented levels of demands. Much of what we know about stress and trauma in education predates the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the pandemic recedes, it seems likely that recruiting and retaining teachers, always a challenge, will become even more difficult. This could not be worse for students, who face steep losses in their academic and socio-emotional progress after more than two years of pandemic-impacted schooling. The silver lining is that scholars who study the occupational health have spent the past several years studying the effect of the pandemic on teachers, which led us to edit this volume to collected what is known and have these experts explain how we can better support teachers in the future.

This book documents the many impacts of the pandemic on the teaching profession, but also leverages research to chart a path forward. Part I examines the contours of stress, with a particular emphasis on COVID-19 impacts. These contributions range from parents’ achievement worries to compassion fatigue, and, more optimistically, how teachers cope. Part II examines pandemic impacts on pre-school teachers, in both the U.S. and in Australia. Given the social distancing in place during the pandemic, pre-school students and their teachers were under unique demands, as there is no substitute for the personal connection critical at that age. It is likely that students entering elementary school in the next few years will have work to do in their social skills. Part III focuses on mentoring and stress during the pandemic. Mentoring is an important part of teacher’s professional development, but the pandemic scrambled traditional forms of mentoring as all teachers were thrown into unfamiliar online technology. The final section of this book, Part IV, includes links between teacher stress and trauma during the pandemic. Clearly, with the ongoing nature of the pandemic, it is easy to see how trauma is likely to manifest in years to come.

Readers of this book will better understand teacher demands, as well as the resources teachers will need going forward. Teachers made heroic efforts during the pandemic to help their students both academically and personally. We owe to them to learn from research during the pandemic that points to the way to a healthier occupational future.

The Political Economy of Covid-19 Covid-19, Inequality and Government Responses【

This comprehensive book brings together research published during 2021 analysing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy ? on output and employment, on inequality, and on public policy responses.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been the greatest public health crisis for a century ? since the ‘Spanish Flu’ pandemic of 1919. The economic impact has been equally seismic. While it is too early to measure the full economic cost ? since much of this will continue to accumulate for some time to come ? it will certainly be one of the greatest global economic shocks of the past century.

Some chapters in this edited volume report on specific countries, while some take a comparative look between countries, and others analyse the impact upon the global economy. Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, there had been calls for a ‘great reset’ in face of the climate crisis, the increased income and wealth inequality, and the need to avoid further global financial crisis. With the devastating Covid-19 pandemic ? a harbinger for further such pandemics ? there is an even greater need for a reset, and for the reset to be that much greater.

The chapters in this book were originally published as special issues in the journal International Review of Applied Economics.

COVID-19 and European Banking Performance Resilience, Recovery and Sustainability【

The monograph presents a comprehensive analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on European banking, both at a macro and a micro level. It analyses the impact of the pandemic on bank stability, performance and credit policies, as well as their strategic adjustments to the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initial chapters analyze the various governmental responses to the pandemic. Topics of discussion include the scale and scope of the wide range of public policies undertaken to mitigate the consequences of the crisis, and their efficiency in limiting the negative impact of the pandemic on the economy. The results suggest that the extensive public interventions have been largely successful in averting the possible disastrous consequences for the financial sector on a macro level. On a micro level, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the restructuring and recovery of the banking industry started after the 2008 crisis which has had a significant impact on economies around the world, arguably leading to a negative long-lasting effect on sustainable development. To examine this, the book focuses on the impact of the pandemic on bank lending policies, bank stability and performance, and on competitive position of the banks vis a vis the FinTech sector.

Offering a thorough overview of the issues that banks will have to face as a consequence of pandemic related macroeconomic and industry adjustments, the book will be of interest to scholars, researchers and students of banking and finance as well as banking specialists concerned with the impact of crises on financial markets, risks and resilience.

COVID-19 and informal workers in Asian cities Impact, response, and implications for urban recovery【

As COVID-19 took hold across local and international borders in 2020 and 2021, over 1.6 billion informal workers were estimated to have been adversely impacted by mobility restrictions and other 'lockdown' measures to tackle the coronavirus crisis. In the Global South, the pandemic has severely affected the sprawling megacities in Southeast and South Asia that have been driving urbanisation, and where there is a very high concentration of informal workers. This volume examines how informal workers were affected by the responses to the pandemic in five Asian megacities: Dhaka (Bangladesh), Hyderabad (India), Karachi (Pakistan), Jakarta (Indonesia), and Manila (Philippines).

Gathering voices and experiences from across these subregions, this book engages with issues surrounding state measures to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapters present the gaps and lessons learned in addressing the needs of informal workers. They also shed light on grassroots solidarity initiatives, civic practices, and social networks that have cushioned the devastating effects of the crisis. The book ends with a discussion on the implications of identified state measures and citizen-led responses for (post) pandemic planning and urban governance in Asian cities in an age of recovery.

Social Entrepreneurship and Grand Challenges Navigating Layers of Disruption from COVID-19 and Beyond【電子書籍】[ Emilio Costales ]

This book illustrates how social entrepreneurship can be used as a tool for addressing grand challenges. Combining leading theoretical insights with rigorous empirical methodologies, the book is the result of field work with 17 social entrepreneurs in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom at various points during the COVID-19 pandemic. Adopting a highly innovative theoretical synthesis to discuss the role of social entrepreneurs as potential agents for positive social change, the book introduces the sociomateriality of space, Luhmann’s systems theory, and the social imaginary as missing building blocks in which disruption is created and navigated for creating positive social change. Concluding with a chapter that focuses on the practicalities of meeting the Sustainable Development Goals, the authors extend scholarship in social entrepreneurship and provide a comprehensive account of insights gained from the pandemic, demonstrating how these insights can enable the navigation of further grand challenges.

Business Recovery and Continuity in a Mega Disaster Cybersecurity Lessons Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic【電子書籍】[ Ravi Das ]

The COVID-19 pandemic has had so many unprecedented consequences. The great global shift from office work to remote work is one such consequence, with which many information security professionals are struggling. Office workers have been hastily given equipment that has not been properly secured or must use personal devices to perform office work. The proliferation of videoconferencing has brought about new types of cyber-attacks. When the pandemic struck, many organizations found they had no, or old and unworkable, business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

Business Recovery and Continuity in a Mega Disaster: Cybersecurity Lessons Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic reviews the COVID-19 pandemic and related information security issues. It then develops a series of lessons learned from this reviews and explains how organizations can prepare for the next global mega disaster. The following presents some of the key lessons learned:

The lack of vetting for third party suppliers and vendors

The lack of controls surrounding data privacy, especially as it relates to the personal identifiable information (PPI) data sets

The intermingling of home and corporate networks

The lack of a secure remote workforce

The emergence of supply chain attacks (e.g., Solar Winds)

To address the issues raised in these lessons learned, CISOs and their security teams must have tools and methodologies in place to address the following:

The need for incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans

The need for effective penetration testing

The importance of threat hunting

The need for endpoint security

The need to use the SOAR model

The importance of a zero-trust framework

This book provides practical coverage of these topics to prepare information security professionals for any type of future disaster.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the entire world to unprecedented and previously unimaginable levels. Many businesses, especially in the United States, were completely caught off guard, and they had no concrete plans put into place, from a cybersecurity standpoint, for how to deal with this mega disaster. This how-to book fully prepares CIOs, CISOs, and their teams for the next disaster, whether natural or manmade, with the various lessons that have been learned thus far from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Covid Morrison - Malenomic Manipulation Defeats UN and Biden through bushfires, recession, coronavirus & climate crises, to intergenerational malaise【電子書籍】[ Robert Gibbons ]

Australia has a full posse of anti-carbon campaigners ranging from its PM to OECD D-G Cormann in his Finance role and immensely powerful carbon companies, one of which was given ring-side seats at Glasgow. The world’s media saw images of burning koalas and residents being snarled at by Morrison and might not be surprised that some of the 2019 victims are still living in tents - Morrison’s victimisation of victims.

It will not surprise also that economic ignorance also features among those cabals and is also seen in the world’s peak councils where the OECD’s 2020 Economic Outlook appears to have been forgotten.

Even President Biden so far has ignored world-class Australia precedents in his state-by-state effort to decarbonise including the OECD-style revival of Newcastle City from the close of steelmaking - by this analyst. The states’ reliance on consultants to do parallel work is a waste of time and resources to me.

The first book on this site, Covid Australia - Failure of the Morrison / Trump / Johnson Bravura Model, has a wealth of detail on the machinations which led to the stalling of momentum at COP26 in Glasgow. It includes massive correspondence with POTUS and John Kerry.

This booklet has a letter to Biden on page 34 and another to Morrison on page 81 as I have a habit of writing “rescue plans”. There’s also one to Infrastructure Australia which is at the heart of Aus’s failures, a path that was set by the previous Labor Government in 2008.

This volume started in August 2018 as “A study in Un-Politics, Non-Decision-Making & Elitist De-democratisation”, then “Cheated” in December, after the current PM, Scott Morrison, took over from Malcolm Turnbull under whom, he as Treasurer, a destructive mode of budgetting called “gifting” had developed. My reports mapped the development of major dysfunctionalities including wasteful infrastructure sapping funds from health and education budgets. They are still there in 2022.

“Repair” was needed after the 2019 bushfires but the Government was confused and hurtful. The same is happening again. Turnbull/Morrison had reversed the Costello theme and fused their politics with NSW’s Premier Berejiklian’s. She had squashed Nick Greiner’s reforms there in June 2012, and her “malenomics” was absorbed into the federal platform. (Greiner had been the Liberal Party’s greatest Premier and was inaugural chair of Infrastructure NSW (iNSW) with the task of reversing the previous Labor state government’s “planning fiascos” by locating decisionmaking nearer to communities, not in backrooms.) Quite a mess has resulted, including in aged care and the economy.

The thesis here is that that “gifting” culture, which includes executive de-skilling and journalistic churnalism, effectively neutered Australia’s chances of minimising the impacts of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Now the challenge is to repair the blunders and accelerate “improvement stimulus” which will see Australia becoming more equitable, more prosperous, and cleaner and safer to live in. PM Morrison’s smugness is false bravado: he has not yet started genuine stimulus. Treasurer Frydenberg will not listen and continues blunders in straight lines.

It’s worse than that, Frydenberg was confronted with a 2019 Malenomics package and cancelled MYEFO, deferred the Budget, deferred Parliament, cancelled 2 weeks of Parliament, and deceived himself into more “gifting” tranches. “The Emperor has no clothes”. That they got further into trouble was no surprise but that they oppose repair of their blunders is catastrophic. Industry groups are Big Business and disregard SMEs. Local government has a potential role but is excluded.

The Governments ignore, even suppress, the solutions which the Australian people should have the opportunity to understand and discuss, including new budgetary processes to assist with “targeted and proportionate” (which the Government has been unable to achieve) & to save lives; and the impediments to that, being the people and processes including in the Coalition Governments in Canberra and Sydney & the National Cabinet [and NCCC] which cause us grief.

The discussion therefore focussed on two main themes which remain: ~

Why “budget repair” must be included in the 2020 Budget cycle:

A re-planning overlay via iA
A “Month End Economic & Financial Outlook” regime to guide stimulus targetting & cash flow needs

What should be in the 2nd phase “stimulus cycle”

OECD guidelines
Current gaps & Budget
Administrative reforms including of National Cabinet & local government

The current booklet presages BETRAYED, a crypto-political expose of the economic, climate, community, health, environment, employment and associated dimensions of the de-democratisation of Australia by a fanatical quasi-spiritualist Pentecostal movement that would have Jesus applying his knotted cords, I believe.

Certainly the human costs of these heathen are unacceptable as illustrated here - a foretaste and discussion starter which is intended to line up various efforts to have a go at “re-accelerating to 2030” at world and national levels. The US has difficult political contexts but none are worse that Australia’s - please learn from its successful warrior.

The personal side is that the Liberal/Nationals and enen Labor's unions have plagiarised me mercilesly and are now facing proportionate retribution:

They caused me over 8 years of homelessness which caused a catastrophic failure of my health, a near death experience and recovery in a superb regional hospital - protect them from Morrison’s evil intentions

Corruption and economic damage are widespread and profound, much more than you have realised - here is a window

I am going to keep going, this is a pamphlet compared with the full book “BETRAYED” which will encompass climate matters and deceits, there are web references herein.

Pandemic Risk Management in Operations and Finance Modeling the Impact of COVID-19【電子書籍】[ Desheng Dash Wu ]

COVID-19 has spread around the world, causing tremendous structural change, and severely affecting global supply chains and financial operations. As such there is a need for analytic tools help deal with the impact of the pandemic on the world’s economies; these tools are not panaceas and certainly won’t cure the problems faced, but they offer a means to aid governments, firms, and individuals in coping with specific problems.

This book provides an overview of the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluates its effect on financial and supply chain operations. It then discusses epidemic modeling, presenting sources of quantitative and text data, and describing how models are used to illustrate the pandemic impact on supply chains, macroeconomic performance on financial operations. It highlights the specific experiences of the banking system, which offers predictions of the impact on the Swedish banking sector. Further, it examines models related to pandemic planning, such as evaluation of financial contagion, debt risk analysis, and health system efficiency performance, and addresses specific models of pandemic parameters.

The book demonstrates various tools using available data on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While it includes some citations, it focuses on describing the methods and explaining how they work, rather than on theory. The data sets and software presented were all selected on the basis of their widespread availability to any reader with computer links.
