Reform of the International Monetary System Why and How?【電子書籍】[ John B. Taylor ]

An argument that a rules-based reform of the international monetary system, achieved by applying basic economic theory, would improve economic performance.

In this book, the economist John Taylor argues that the apparent correlation of monetary policy decisions among different countriesーlargely the result of countries' concerns about the exchange rateーcauses monetary policy to deviate from effective policies that stabilize inflation and the economy. He argues that a rules-based reform of the international monetary system, achieved by applying basic economic theory, would improve economic performance.

Taylor shows that monetary polices in recent years have been deployed either defensively, as central banks counteract forces from abroad that affect the exchange rate, or offensively, as central banks attempt to move the exchange rate to gain a competitive advantage. Focusing on the years from 2005 to 2017, he develops an empirical framework to examine two monetary policy instruments: the policy interest rate (the more conventional of the two) and the size of the balance sheet. He finds that an international contagion in central bank decisions about the policy interest rate has accentuated the deviation from standard interest rate rules that have worked in the past. He finds a similar contagion in decisions about the size of the balance sheet. By considering a counterfactual policy in the estimated model, Taylor is able to estimate by how much the policy of recent years has increased exchange rate volatility. After several rounds of monetary actions and reactions aimed at exchange rates, Taylor finds, the international monetary system is left with roughly the same interest rate configuration, but much larger balance sheets to unwind.

The Filter Bubble How the New Personalized Web Is Changing What We Read and How We Think【電子書籍】[ Eli Pariser ]

An eye-opening account of how the hidden rise of personalization on the Internet is controlling-and limiting-the information we consume.

In December 2009, Google began customizing its search results for each user. Instead of giving you the most broadly popular result, Google now tries to predict what you are most likely to click on. According to MoveOn.org board president Eli Pariser, Google's change in policy is symptomatic of the most significant shift to take place on the Web in recent years-the rise of personalization. In this groundbreaking investigation of the new hidden Web, Pariser uncovers how this growing trend threatens to control how we consume and share information as a society-and reveals what we can do about it.

Though the phenomenon has gone largely undetected until now, personalized filters are sweeping the Web, creating individual universes of information for each of us. Facebook-the primary news source for an increasing number of Americans-prioritizes the links it believes will appeal to you so that if you are a liberal, you can expect to see only progressive links. Even an old-media bastion like The Washington Post devotes the top of its home page to a news feed with the links your Facebook friends are sharing. Behind the scenes a burgeoning industry of data companies is tracking your personal information to sell to advertisers, from your political leanings to the color you painted your living room to the hiking boots you just browsed on Zappos.

In a personalized world, we will increasingly be typed and fed only news that is pleasant, familiar, and confirms our beliefs-and because these filters are invisible, we won't know what is being hidden from us. Our past interests will determine what we are exposed to in the future, leaving less room for the unexpected encounters that spark creativity, innovation, and the democratic exchange of ideas.

While we all worry that the Internet is eroding privacy or shrinking our attention spans, Pariser uncovers a more pernicious and far- reaching trend on the Internet and shows how we can- and must-change course. With vivid detail and remarkable scope, The Filter Bubble reveals how personalization undermines the Internet's original purpose as an open platform for the spread of ideas and could leave us all in an isolated, echoing world.

Video chats full of ‘oops sorry no you go’ and ‘can you hear me?!’ Ambiguous text-messages. Weird punctuation you can’t make heads or tails of. Is it any wonder communication takes us so much time and effort to figure out? How did we lose our innate capacity to understand each other?

Humans rely on body language to connect and build trust, but with most of our communication happening from behind a screen, traditional body language signals are no longer visible ? or are they? In Digital Body Language, Erica Dhawan, a go-to thought leader on collaboration and a passionate communication junkie, combines cutting edge research with engaging storytelling to decode the new signals and cues that have replaced traditional body language across genders, generations, and culture. In real life, we lean in, uncross our arms, smile, nod and make eye contact to show we listen and care. Online, reading carefully is the new listening. Writing clearly is the new empathy. And a phone or video call is worth a thousand emails.

Digital Body Language will turn your daily misunderstandings into a set of collectively understood laws that foster connection, no matter the distance. Dhawan investigates a wide array of exchangesーfrom large conferences and video meetings to daily emails, texts, IMs, and conference callsーand offers insights and solutions to build trust and clarity to anyone in our ever changing world.

"We need Erica Dhawan’s book more than ever." ーSheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and founder of Lean In

“An indispensable guide to a business world turned upside down by video calls, group texts, and remote work." ーDaniel H.
Reimagining Digital Learning for Sustainable Development is a comprehensive playbook for education leaders, policy makers, and other key stakeholders leading the modernization of learning and development in their institutions as they build a high value knowledge economy and prepare learners for jobs that don't yet exist.

Currently, nearly every aspect of human activity, including the ways we absorb and apply learning, is influenced by disruptive digital technologies. The jobs available today are no longer predicators of future employment, and current and future workforce members will need to augment their competencies through a lifetime of continuous upskilling and reskilling to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This book features curated insights and real-world cases from thought leaders throughout the world and identifies major shifts in content formats, pedagogic approaches, technology frameworks, user and design experiences, and learner roles and expectations that will reshape our institutions, including those in emerging economies.

The agile, lean, and cost-effective strategies proposed here will function in scalable and flexible bandwidth environments, enabling education leaders and practitioners to transform brick-and-mortar learning organizations into digital and blended ecosystems and to achieve the United Nation’s ambitious Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Chapter 18 of this book is freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF at www.taylorfrancis.com under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND) 4.0 license.

Designing Reality How to Survive and Thrive in the Third Digital Revolution【電子書籍】[ Neil Gershenfeld ]

That's the promise, and peril, of the third digital revolution, where anyone will be able to make (almost) anything

Two digital revolutions -- computing and communication -- have radically transformed our economy and lives. A third digital revolution is here: fabrication. Today's 3D printers are only the start of a trend, accelerating exponentially, to turn data into objects: Neil Gershenfeld and his collaborators ultimately aim to create a universal replicator straight out of Star Trek. While digital fabrication promises us self-sufficient cities and the ability to make (almost) anything, it could also lead to massive inequality. The first two digital revolutions caught most of the world flat-footed, thanks to Designing Reality that won't be true this time.

Stock Market Investing Strategies For Beginners A Simple Trading Guide On Investing In Stocks And How To Start Making Profits On Your Money Today【電子書籍】[ Shawn Anderson ]

Have you ever heard the word "investing" before, but you have never understood what it really means? It's actually quite simpleーit means making your money work while you do what you want. Basically, it's a different way of thinking about how to make money. While growing up, most of us have been taught that we can only earn an income by finding a good jobーand that's exactly what most of us do. However, there is a big problem with thisーif you want more money, you have to work longer hours. However, there is a limit to the number of hours a day we can work onーnot to mention the fact that having a lot of money is not fun if we do not have the time to enjoy it. This is why rich people do not have a jobーthey have businesses that work for them.

Think about itーyou have a job that allows you to earn over 2000 dollars a month, but that takes you over 13 hours a day, 6 days out of 7, so about 11 remainーand usually, the hours of sleep should be at least 7?8 (for a healthy lifestyle). Considering also the displacements and the time lost to go to work, you have 3 to 4 hours left, where you most likely will use 2 for dinner in the evening. In the end, there are 2 actual hours of time per day, which do not allow you to enjoy life to the fullest. You will find yourself having a 2000-dollars-a-month salary (which, nowadays, is nothing) that will continue to accumulate, as you will not absolutely enjoy them in any way. This is what is often called the "rat race."

Is there a solution? Yes, it exists, and it is to take part of your money and invest it properly in the financial markets. By doing so, you are letting it work for you. The possibilities are scary and extremely profitable. Do you want one example? Take a look at Apple's stocks.

Apple's stocks have risen at a frightening rate in the last 10 years, from $10 to about $100. This means that with an investment of only $ 1,000, you would now have over 10 thousand dollars. This is the power of online investingーit allows you to grow your money in a totally automatic way.

Unfortunately, there is no duplication of self to increase the time at work, but instead, you can create an "extension" of yourselfーthat is, your moneyーand put it to work. In this way, while you are working for your employer, or while you are at the bar with friends, you can still earn at the same timeーthanks to the investment you made. In a very simple way, therefore, you can make your money useful, thus maximizing your earning potential, even if you do not receive an increase in your pay, or even if you do not decide to make an extraordinary one, or you are looking for a more remunerative job.

There are many ways to do this. This includes investing your money in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, forex, CFDs or real estate (and many other things), or even starting your own online business (like affiliate marketing). Sometimes, people refer to these options as "investment vehicles," which is just another way of saying "a way of investing."

Give People Money How a Universal Basic Income Would End Poverty, Revolutionize Work, and Remake the World【電子書籍】[ Annie Lowrey ]

**A New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice
Shortlisted for the 2018 FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award

A brilliantly reported, global look at universal basic incomeーa stipend given to every citizenーand why it might be necessary in an age of rising inequality, persistent poverty, and dazzling technology.**

Imagine if every month the government deposited $1,000 into your bank account, with nothing expected in return. It sounds crazy. But it has become one of the most influential and hotly debated policy ideas of our time. Futurists, radicals, libertarians, socialists, union representatives, feminists, conservatives, Bernie supporters, development economists, child-care workers, welfare recipients, and politicians from India to Finland to Canada to Mexicoーall are talking about UBI.

In this sparkling and provocative book, economics writer Annie Lowrey examines the UBI movement from many angles. She travels to Kenya to see how a UBI is lifting the poorest people on earth out of destitution, India to see how inefficient government programs are failing the poor, South Korea to interrogate UBI’s intellectual pedigree, and Silicon Valley to meet the tech titans financing UBI pilots in expectation of a world with advanced artificial intelligence and little need for human labor.

Lowrey explores the potential of such a sweeping policy and the challenges the movement faces, among them contradictory aims, uncomfortable costs, and, most powerfully, the entrenched belief that no one should get something for nothing. In the end, she shows how this arcane policy has the potential to solve some of our most intractable economic problems, while offering a new vision of citizenship and a firmer foundation for our society in this age of turbulence and marvels.

Hacking Growth How Today's Fastest-Growing Companies Drive Breakout Success【電子書籍】[ Sean Ellis ]

The definitive playbook by the pioneers of Growth Hacking, one of the hottest business methodologies in Silicon Valley and beyond.

It seems hard to believe today, but there was a time when Airbnb was the best-kept secret of travel hackers and couch surfers, Pinterest was a niche web site frequented only by bakers and crafters, LinkedIn was an exclusive network for C-suite executives and top-level recruiters, Facebook was MySpace’s sorry step-brother, and Uber was a scrappy upstart that didn’t stand a chance against the Goliath that was New York City Yellow Cabs.

So how did these companies grow from these humble beginnings into the powerhouses they are today? Contrary to popular belief, they didn’t explode to massive worldwide popularity simply by building a great product then crossing their fingers and hoping it would catch on. There was a studied, carefully implemented methodology behind these companies’ extraordinary rise. That methodology is called Growth Hacking, and it’s practitioners include not just today’s hottest start-ups, but also companies like IBM, Walmart, and Microsoft as well as the millions of entrepreneurs, marketers, managers and executives who make up the community of Growth Hackers.

Think of the Growth Hacking methodology as doing for market-share growth what Lean Start-Up did for product development, and Scrum did for productivity. It involves cross-functional teams and rapid-tempo testing and iteration that focuses customers: attaining them, retaining them, engaging them, and motivating them to come back and buy more.

An accessible and practical toolkit that teams and companies in all industries can use to increase their customer base and market share, this book walks readers through the process of creating and executing their own custom-made growth hacking strategy. It is a must read for any marketer, entrepreneur, innovator or manger looking to replace wasteful big bets and "spaghetti-on-the-wall" approaches with more consistent, replicable, cost-effective, and data-driven results.

How to Manage a Successful Press Conference【電子書籍】[ Ralf Leinemann ]

Despite the ubiquity of new forms of communication technology, press conferences remain a vital way for companies to share news. One size or message does not fit all and the content showcased must be of interest to every member of the audience. This book highlights the importance of understanding the needs of those who will attend; an ever-more critical skill as stretched editorial teams make it increasingly difficult to lure journalists from their desks. In the international press arena, journalists from different countries have particular needs and can react differently to the same situation. The authors show that to ensure success, PR professionals need to take account of the event, speakers, style, content and tone; and follow through to the all-important tasks of obtaining feedback and analysing results. How to Manage a Successful Press Conference is essential reading for PR teams working in a national or, particularly, an international environment and enables you to address the whole range of activities necessary for success, from the basics through to advanced issues such as managing press expectations across borders and cultures.
