Principles of Sustainable Finance【電子書籍】[ Dirk Schoenmaker ]

Finance is widely seen as an obstacle to a better world. Principles of Sustainable Finance explains how the financial sector can be mobilized to counter this. Using finance as a means to achieve social goals, we can divert the planet and its economy from its current path to a world that is sustainable for all. Written for undergraduate, graduate, and executive students of finance, economics, business, and sustainability, this textbook combines theory, empirical data, and policy to explain the sustainability challenges for corporate investment. It shows how finance can steer funding to certain companies and projects without sacrificing return and thus speed up the transition to a sustainable economy. It analyses the Sustainable Development Goals as a strategy for a better world and provides evidence that environmental, social, and governance factors matter, explaining in detail how to incorporate these factors in the corporate and financial sectors. Tailored for students, Principles of Sustainable Finance starts each chapter with an overview and learning objectives to support study. It includes suggestions for further reading, lists and definitions of key concepts, and extensive uses of figures, boxes, and tables to enhance educational goals and clarify concepts. Principles of Sustainable Finance is also supported by an online resource that includes teaching materials and cases.

The Invisible Financial War【電子書籍】[ Yvonne Brooks ]

Whether you believe that you are in a financial war or not, do not matter at this point. Financial warfare exists and takes casualties on a daily basis with or without your insight. If you are still unconvinced, check out the obituaries and divorce courts and consider why so many men commit suicide or leave their families as head of their household. Could it be because of an invisible war that they refused to recognize?

God’s economic principle is the most devalued attribute for those who are blinded to financial warfare. There seems to be an alarming amount of people throughout the world who are defeated and left for dead because they refused to accept God’s Word as the perfect firearm against financial strongholds. You must wage ruthless and continuous war against every destructive financial choice you make that keep you in bondage.

Thoughts and ideas about poverty can be great enemies during financial warfare. Negative thoughts about money and wealth often release an economic condition into the lives of many that later cause lack of both money and basic necessities needed to live successfully such as; food, water, education and shelter.

Without Financial Education, Something Terrible Happens, DEBT!

A Call for Judgment Sensible Finance for a Dynamic Economy【電子書籍】[ Amar Bhide ]

Our prosperity requires the enterprise of innumerable individuals and businesses who exercise their imagination and judgment-and bear responsibility for outcomes. And widespread enterprise is fostered through dialogue and relationships, not merely prices in anonymous markets. Yet modern finance blatantly neglects these necessary elements for enterprise. In the last several decades finance has become increasingly centralized, distanced, and mechanistic. Instead of many lending officers making judgments about borrowers they know, credit decisions are the output of the models of a few Wall Street wizards and credit agencies. This robotic centralized finance stifles the dynamism of the real economy and leads to recurring collapses. A Call for Judgment clearly explains how bad theories and mis-regulation have caused a dangerous divergence between the real economy and finance. In simple language Bhid? takes apart the so-called advances in modern finance, showing how backward-looking, top-down models were used to mass-produce toxic products. Thanks to excessively tight securities laws and loose banking laws, anonymous transactions have displaced relationship-based finance. And Bhid? offers, tough simple rules for restoring relationships and case-by-case judgment: limit banks--and all deposit taking institutions--to basic lending and nothing else. A Call for Judgment is both a primer on the role of finance in a dynamic modern economy, and a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of banks functioning as highly centralized, mechanistic entities. It is essential reading for anyone interested in bringing the economy back to a point at which decisions can be made that foster organic economic growth without the potentially disastrous risks currently accepted by modern finance.

Down and Out in the New Economy How People Find (or Don't Find) Work Today【電子書籍】[ Ilana Gershon ]

“Gershon explores the subtle violence that ensues when, in order to get a job, you have to apply branding and marketing techniques to your own personality.” ーDavid Graeber, international bestselling author of Debt

Today, if you want to have a shot at a good job, you need to have a robust profile on LinkedIn. And an enticing personal brand. Or something like thatーcontemporary how-to books tend to offer contradictory advice. But they agree on one thing: in today’s economy, you can’t just be an employee looking to get hiredーyou have to market yourself as a business, one that can help another business achieve its goals.

That’s a radical transformation in how we think about work and employment, says Ilana Gershon. And with Down and Out in the New Economy, she digs deep into that change and what it means, not just for job seekers, but for businesses and our very culture. In telling her story, Gershon covers all parts of the employment spectrum: she interviews hiring managers about how they assess candidates; attends personal branding seminars; talks with managers at companies around the United States to suss out regional differencesーlike how Silicon Valley firms look askance at the lengthier employment tenures of applicants from the Midwest. And she finds that not everything has changed; though the technological trappings may be glitzier, in a lot of cases, who you know remains more important than what you know.

Rich in the voices of people deeply involved with all parts of the employment process, Down and Out in the New Economy offers a snapshot of the quest for work todayーand a pointed analysis of its larger meaning.

The authors discuss how Ghana can build fortified institutions, regulatory frameworks, and productive capacity to strengthen the financial sector and foster pathways that will enhance economicdevelopment. Finance and Democracy Towards a Sustainable Financial System【電子書籍】[ Alessandro Vercelli ]

This book is an extension of the author's last book (Crisis and Sustainability: The Delusion of Free Markets, Palgrave Macmillan, 2017) and sheds light on the evolution of the financial system after the 2007/08 crisis and on changes and developments in the regulatory framework that have taken place concurrently over the last ten years. The book’s central theme addresses the neoliberal philosophy of financial regulation and, in particular, the role of self-regulating markets in the finance sector and how this has affected incentives and behaviour within the finance sector. The author contends that neoliberal maxims have led us to believe that market-based finance is superior to, and safer than, a more rules-based regulatory regime for the sector, and then explains that experience suggests otherwise. The huge expansion of ‘financialization’ in the developed economies over the last two decades has greatly magnified the risks emanating from the impact of highly leveraged, risk averse, under-regulated finance on other sectors of these economies. The author concludes that financial institutions need to be encouraged to operate within a more socially responsible matrix that facilitates and promotes long-term economic growth coupled with social stability.

Just Bee You A guide to surviving the best bits of life and holding your middle finger up to the rest【電子書籍】[ Bindy Hall ]

Warning: this book contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children).

There’s enough solidly inspirational and profoundly beautiful literature out there already for your reading pleasure, I won’t add to that. Instead I offer you this. I wrote it. I felt compelled to do so because I have a suspicion that, like me, we all worry about and over analyse the same things in life. We are all just anxious meatbags, trying to get along. We all want similar (ish) things. Happiness, family, love, safety, FAME and a metabolism that helpfully speeds up annually on the event of our passing birthdays.

I found this quote a few years ago, it came up as I was scrolling on the internet. It’s so beautiful it actually hurts.

“You’re a ghost driving a meat coated skeleton, made from stardust. What do you have to be scared of?”

It’s deep isn’t it? It’s basically the theme of this book. It’s aim and my intention is to alleviate worries and reassure the reader that we are all the same inside. We ALL relate to the same s*** that keeps us awake at night.

I’ll be honest… I swear like a trucker, but I sure can write and I have good intentions. And, as the front cover states- it’s a guide to surviving the best bits of life and holding our middle fingers up to the rest!

? Die internationale Finanzkrise 2007/2008 Problemfelder und Risikopotentiale von Forderungsverbriefungen【電子書籍】[ Jochen Rahn ]

Schl?sselworte: ABS, CDO, Rating, Risiko, Verbriefung, Finanzkrise Since early 2007 the probably most called words like 'toxic securities', 'credit market turmoil' or 'financial weapons of mass destruction' appeared nearly daily in newspapers headlines. In 2008 'financial crisis' was even elected the German word of the year. Based on the latest academic publications and following the main topic: 'what went wrong?', this paper investigates the complex structures of innovative financial instruments such as Asset Backed Securities (ABS) and Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO). It reconsiders the chance-/risk-profile of securitizationstructures and gives an in-depth analysis of how the bursting of US-housing bubble was able to trigger a global financial meltdown of an unforeseen magnitude and furthermore to infect real economies around the world. The results show that 'model risk', failures in parameter estimation and an insufficiently considered systematic risk linked to the so called 'rating crisis' implied huge downgrades in economic downturns, whereas in economic upturns these financial instruments definitely are able to allocate credit risks and encourage financial stability.

Sustainable Finance and Banking The Financial Sector and the Future of the Planet【電子書籍】[ Marcel Jeucken ]

Banking and finance play a fundamental role in public policy and economic performance as well as in all forms of commerce and industry. They are crucial in determining whether society - from governments to individual consumers - succeeds in following an environmentally sustainable path.

However, those working in the financial sector are largely unaware of the rationale and pressures for sustainable development and its bearing on their work, while those in the relevant research and policy areas commonly overlook how vital the financial sector is for progress.

Marcel Jeucken sets out to rectify this state of affairs, in a style which is accessible to those with no experience of environmental finance issues. He provides a comprehensive account of their interdependence: why the financial sector is crucial to achieving sustainability and why the triple bottom line of commercial, environmental and social success points the way forward for banking. From a systematic assessment of major banks around the world, he presents a comprehensive account of current best practice, an analysis of the differences in approach and performance, and recommendations of actions and policies for improved performance that will contribute to sustainable development.

Financial Literacy and Responsible Finance in the FinTech Era Capabilities and Challenges【

A growing body of evidence suggests that financial literacy plays an important role in financial well-being, and that differences in financial knowledge acquired early in life can explain a significant part of financial and more general well-being in adult life. Financial technology (FinTech) is revolutionizing the financial services industry at an unrivalled pace. Views differ regarding the impact that FinTech is likely to have on personal financial planning, well-being and societal welfare. In an era of mounting student debt, increased (digital) financial inclusion and threats arising from instances of (online) financial fraud, financial education and enlightened financial advising are appropriate policy interventions that enhance financial and overall well-being.

Financial Literacy and Responsible Finance in the FinTech Era: Capabilities and Challenges engages in this important academic and policy agenda by presenting a set of seven chapters emanating from four parallel streams of literature related to financial literacy and responsible finance.

The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of The European Journal of Finance.

Jesus' Terrible Financial Advice Flipping the Tables on Peace, Prosperity, and the Pursuit of Happiness【電子書籍】[ John Thornton ]

“Jesus’ advice ruined what I planned to write.”

It was the recipe for a great book. John and his wifeーboth financial expertsーhad cut their income by 80% to pursue more meaningful lives. Within six years they had two kids, were debt-free, went on several vacations, and doubled their net worth. John was ready to share the biblical principles that made this possible.

But he couldn’t. After reviewing Scripture’s teaching on moneyーover 1,300 versesーhe realized he had missed something big.

Jesus’ Terrible Financial Advice turns even conventional Christian wisdom on its head. While it answers many of the practical questions we haveーlike *does Jesus want me to be rich or poor? Should I give to everybody who asks? Is it wrong to save?ー*it goes beyond these concerns. Designing a Sustainable Financial System Development Goals and Socio-Ecological Responsibility【電子書籍】

This edited collection brings together leading theoretical and applied research with the intent to design a sustainable global financial future. The contributors argue that our world cannot move toward sustainability, address climate change, reverse environmental degradation, and improve human well-being without aligning the financial system with sustainable development goals like those outlined by the United Nations. Such a system would: a) be environmentally and socially responsible; b) align with planetary boundaries; c) manage natural resources sustainably; d) avoid doing more harm than good; and e) be resilient and adaptable to changing conditions. The overarching theme in this collection of chapters is a response to the worldwide, supranational sustainable finance discussions about how we can transition to a new socio-ecological system where finance, human well-being, and planetary health are recognized as being highly intertwined.
