The model describes the interplay between these goal-corrected behavioural systems. Because it includes the defensive mechanisms and strategies which an individual values most, it is particularly helpful to the therapist in understanding the interpersonal processes between people who are seeking to influence each other’s behaviour. It is presented in a form that enables the therapist to formulate hypotheses about a client’s predicament and their way of relating to the therapist and then explore and test these hypotheses in the course of therapy. Drawing on many years’ experience as clinicians and researchers, Dorothy Heard and Brian Lake explore in depth an aspect of human development which has profound implications for our future survival. Medicine is a very serious business!＜br /＞ Yet the antithesis of laughter in medicine is not a promising proposition either.＜br /＞ At first I thought about entitling this book : "The 101 Kraziest Things I Heard At The Doctor's Office" Another title I considered : "The 101 Stupidest Things I Heard At The Doctor's Office".＜br /＞ I opted for a less harsh title instead."＜br /＞ Why?＜br /＞ To imply doctors are crazy or stupid would NOT be accurate or Fair.＜br /＞ Fair?＜br /＞ Yes I want to be Fair.＜br /＞ I endeavor to be fair because: I saw an episode on "60 minutes" a year ago. John Hopkins hospital made tution free for medical students-- a historical move. The author reevaluates existing sources and literature on the topic, and demonstrates that the alliance was reached despite disagreements and distrust on both sides and was not an inevitable conclusion.
